IF THE MURDERERS OF JESUS ARE IN HEAVEN THEN FR LOMASNEY CAN BE THERE TOO.

Michael Lomasney RIP

We must make a MASSIVE distinction between condemning Fr Lomasney’s particular actions and judging where his eternal soul has gone to.

We can condemn somebody’s actions in this life – but we have no right to judge their departed souls. That is God’s right and only God’s right.

What sin could be worse than MURDERING GOD?

And if those people on Calvary who did that were forgiven by Jesus as he died, then there is no such a thing as an unforgivable sin.

As he died Jesus prayed:

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”.

As Father Faber’s famous hymn says:

“There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the widenessnof the sea”.

Just before Fr Lomasney died in that chair he could have thrown himself on the mercy of God and asked forgiveness for all the sins of his life.

And if he did that, he was forgiven and went to heaven.

And if he didn’t do that, he is still a beneficiary of Christ’s death on the cross and we can believe, as with all of us, that his sins were washed clean by the blood of Our Lord.

“Though your sins are like scarlet, I shall make them as white as snow”.

THE REAL POINT BEHIND THE EXAMINATION OF FR LOMASNEY’S LIFE AND DEATH.

I’m sure that when Fr Lomasney entered Maynooth at the tender age of 18 he was full of faith, hope and love. Im, sure he fervently said his prayers.

I hope that when took his promise of celibacy he did it sincerely – unless something serious or sexual happened to him in Maynooth?

Any man who taked his celibacy promise with his fingers crossed or with a mental reservation would, in my mind, invalidate the sacrament.

And this has happened.

THE REAL QUESTION:

The real question is this: “How did a good, young Cloyne seminarian become so involved in homosexual dysfunctionality that he had sex on an altar?

What happened?

What was the process?

What, or who, led him astray?

A TEMPLATE FOR WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE CHURCH:

In itself, Fr Lomasney’s story is not another 9/11.

But it serves as a examination template for what has happened and is happening among the bishops, priests and religious of the church.

What has created the McCarricks, the Maciels, the Brendan Smiths?

In the Irish church what process created the Eamon Caseys, the Michael Clearys, the Richard Purcells, the Ger Fitzgeralds, the Gerry Careys.

What process led to the 2016 Maynooth Summer of Strange Goings On?

What process has led to the decline of the Cistercians, the Dominicans, the Redemptorists and others?

THE ANSWER:

Pope Francis might blame the Devil?

Others might blame Vatican II?

But the real answer must be that the church has become the way it has because it has abandoned Christ, his Way and his teachings.

Because a church, with Christ at its heart could not be involved in financial corruption, abuse of power, total worldliness, sexual dysfunctionality, abuses of all kinds, lies, cover-up, political interference, murder and so on.

The Roman Catholic Church, is not currently a CHRISTIAN church ( in the true sense if the word) – if it ever was?

It has become an international corporation. The pope is the World President. The cardinals are the the International Vice Presidents. The bishops are the regional managers. The parish priests are the branch managers.

The Roman Catholic Church “incorpotated”.

And now, their business is contracting. Their customers are going elsewhere. Their reserves are threatened. Their buildings are endangered. Their income is on the wain.

I wonder. I just wonder, if Hurricane Spirit is gaining strength and coming our way?

You are right that only Almighty God will be our judge. but you seem to be saying everything is forgiven, that is not the case. Remember the words ‘Depart from me ye cursed into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels’. The actions of this disgraceful priest are so heinous and satanic that no matter what happened to him in life or his alcoholism is an
excuse for his actions.

Some humour in the story of Francis’ comparing spiritual worldliness, in the words of de Lubac as worse than the concubine popes.
L’Osservatore Romano when reporting these words changed them coyly to concubine fathers. Francis said the paper was afraid of the truth and hope the newspaper would correct itself. 😀

Interesting to delve into Fr. Lomansey’s life as a way of understanding why so much dysfunctionality of personalities, behaviour and actions take root in an institution, the Church. Interestingly, in the Sunday papers yesterday there were three stories of well known people – all male – who lived destructive, drug and drink fuelled lives; men who made choices and ended up in destructive relationships, life destroying company, to the point of complete breakdown. However, they finally sought professional help but the scars of childhood traumas, family divisions and harmful relationships left their long term effects. It took all 3 of them years to recover to some level of living but they know it will be require a life long daily vigilance. In Fr. Lomansey’s case, there obviously were many factors at play in his life. I know from study, from my own therapy for depression and from talking to so many in ministry, destructive behaviour always has a background. If we deliberately leave this dimension out when judging others, as has been done in the case of this priest, then our assessment will be partial, biased, unjust and we use his story as s battering ram for the Church. There are multi faceted reasons for dysfunctional behaviour in those whose lives manifest such behaviour. Having availed of therapy, I was surprised to know how many men, in particular, from all backgrounds and professions, found themselves in horrible, dark places, much of it being the result of unresolved childhood and teenage traumas. Somehow when a priest is in a similar dark, destructive place, the judgment is worse, from fellow colleagues, sadly. I recall saying to my therapist that I felt ashamed of being in therapy, placing the fragments of the past bare, and feeling a great shame, simply because I was a priest. He immediately undid that crazy myth. We are, as priests, human beings first and foremost and are therefore not free from the daily vagaries and impact of life’s challenges, emotionally, mentally, sexually, spiritually. This starting point enabled me to begin as I am – as a human being. Grace builds on nature. Over time I discovered this truth. I believe when we deal with priests whose lives have fallen apart and who have fallen over time for a myriad of reasons, what they need are professional people to help, advise and support them. Perhaps Fr. Lomansey reached that almost unreddemable dark place, not helped by the horrible crushing commentary on this blog. And sadly, in death, he is being treated unkindly. The essay about God forgiving him is a bit late. GOD’S MERCY IS BEYOND IMAGINING BY THOSE WHO CRUSH OTHERS IN THEIR DARKNESS, ADDICTIONS AND MORAL FAILINGS. Somehow, the attempt now to spiritualise his death is a little sickening. Could it be guilt? While we must never acquiesce in any wrongful behaviour, we must be careful with “the little psychology,/psychiatry” we use so that we don’t go in destroying a person further into the darkness of their lives. This, sadly, is done all too frequently on this blig. Maybecwe need a new ethos, a new temolate for assessing itherscwhi become the ficus of this had a, merciless blog. Could it be that the awful narratives written about this priest and ithers frovebthem iver the top? We really must be careful about how we treat ithers, even when their behaviour is disreputable and morally wrong. Yes, there us avwudeness in God’s mercy….Can we also have an ocean of empathy, mercy and kind understanding!!!

I like and agree with much of what you have to say.

I voluntarily went into therapy for 5 years and the freedom afterwards was amazing.

But dont try and overegg your wisdom.

I feel absolutely no guilt over my coverage of Michael Lomasney and his depraved act on the altar.

People must know about these things and your attempts as a priest to excuse and cover-up sacrileges and clerical misbehaviours IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

The life and death of fr Lomasney needs to be examined forensically as part of the vital examination of what makes the RCC so corrupt and the priesthood so hypocritical and dysfunctional.

So Father, get used to the light that needs to be shone into the dark clerical corners where you and your colleagues operate.

There are two problems with Hilarium’s point.
They are that the church is a) one, holy catholic and apostolic and b) indefectible.
The church therefore can’t just disappear but must be marked by its holiness. Hilarium will also know that in Catholic theology these things can be known by reason and seen by reason.
So if the church hasn’t just vanished but the body calling itself is not known for its holiness by the ordinary intelligent person it is not the church. You may say that it isn’t fair to tar the whole church with the same brush and I would retort that the catholic church will be visibly holy to anyone seeing it. A church with a hierarchy which collectively facilitated mortal sin by its clergy for decades is not visibly holy, cannot be made so by odd examples of supposed holiness and thus is not the church.
You will note that I am not expressing a sedevacantist position as such and am not expressing an opinion where the church can be found.
WAKE UP.

And what about Francis’ reference during the week to de Lubac’s phrase ‘concubine popes’? You don’t see anything defective here?

Like

2:11 I haven’t read Francis’s comments and wanted to avoid being mistaken for making a specifically sedevacantist point when my point was much broader. That said since my point was that since in Catholic theology the church is holy and indefectible, the church must exist and must be visibly holy. So popes doing terrible things with impunity, persistently and with no apparent intervention by divine grace, would suggest that body is not the Catholic church.

Like

3.41
You are an unreconstructed sedevacantist if you reach such a conclusion.
It’s not Catholic theology.

Like

4:54 That’s why I stressed not trying to make a sedevacantist point. My point remains that in Catholic theology the church is holy, indefectible and should be visibly holy to reason.
That’s the real problem here, that I do think Francis is the pope, but also think that sticking strictly to Catholic theology the Catholic Church is plainly not the Catholic Church!
To come at it the other way the Catholic Church should rightly strike the ordinary person as the conduit of grace it is appointed to be. Because of sin you would expect problems, failure etc, but when the odd case of holiness despite the rampant corruption does not come across as holy.
For example, all of the bishops without exception followed the disastrous mandate for how to deal with clerical sexual abuse. Is it likely that Catholic bishops would all without exception do that? No.
In the Catholic church you would expect such sin to be cut out even if it flourished in odd places.
My point with this is nobody has come up with a convincing explanation for why this happened and using strictly Catholic theology, it indicates the Catholic Church is not the Catholic Church.

It was ever thus.
Take Jesus’ disciples – who had the benefit of his person, his company and his love. One of them betrayed him. Another denied him. All of the Twelve deserted him (according to the Synoptics).
The church’s glorious history and her sinful history are inseparable like wheat and weeds.
It’s Jesus whores ue us and not we ourselves.

Like

12.08: I’m mystified as to how you extrapolated such verbiage from a very short statement. All I said in one sentence is that “some” (clerics) may be unholy but not “most”. That’s the lie (most) I do not accept. St. Paul says- “You are God’s chosen people, his saints (holy ones) and dearly loved and you must be clothed in sincere compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience..” St. Paul was quite clear about everyone’s call to holiness. All of us who form the community of God’s people, Pobal De, are called to holiness. If by baptism we share in Christ’s life, we are each called to take on Christ: to be holy and spotless. What a challenge but a noble calling. In my experience of over 40 years, I have witnessed this call to holiness among laity, clerics and religious. I’ve been blessed to have encountered wonderful Christ-like people in all categories of people. If by holiness we mean “totally and uncomprimisingly of Christ”, then we won’t find many holy people but I have met many, many who are close to the ideal. As an institution, the Church contains many holy people. This I believe. Yes, there are some clerics who are not holy, ones who do not pray or who are not Christ-like – but not “most”. That’s a lie. If we are to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect, we make the decision daily to live this injunction of Christ. Achieving holiness is a life long journey. I am inspired by Saint John Henry Newman’s phrase: “. Here below, to live is to change and to be perfect is to change often..”. WAKE UP!!

No, Hilarium. Catholic teaching is that the church is holy. All of your explanation fall well short of that.
You also miss the example I gave that disproves your claim that the majority of clergy are not bad. From the sixties for the next forty years all of the bishops without exception followed the church’s evil instructions to cover up and facilitate mortal sin by the clergy.
Not a few. All of them.

And the fact the church (as articulated by your comment) has utterly failed to deal with this fact in even a theological way is absolutely ridiculous.

Can you reconcile this blanket evil without anyone standing up to stop it, and your claims?
Can you reconcile this with the statement that the Catholic Church is holy?
I don’t think you can also and the inescapable conclusion is that the Catholic Church is not the Catholic Church.

What is this thing about murder of Jesus ? It was the will of the Father that His only son should be crucified by his own people. It was not murder, but a human sacrifice for our sins. Bishop Pat writes about the contraction of the church and a shortage of good priests. Though I agree with these two sentiments of his, nevertheless, people seem to have lost the one strength of Catholicism – faith. During the reformation when Catholics were martyred both priests and lay people, the church shrunk, but it came out of those dark days, stronger and leaner. Who is to say, Bishop or no, that the current state of the Church means the end of Roman Catholicism ? Have faith. God knows what he is about and won`t let us down, but it will be to His timetable not ours.

Somebody doesn’t know how to use statistics because this is not a ‘neutral’ reality – you have failed to account for all the other things changing. The world population increased over sixfold between the beginning and end of the century, for example. It is also not very sensible to talk about religious statistics in the twentieth century and fail to mention the prodigious increase in religious practice after world war 2.
When people talk about the decline of religious communities and mass attendance after Vatican 2 they never take account that the 1950s saw an unprecedented peak in mass attendance and membership of orders.
People who try to use statistics should really make an effort to understand them and be able to understand the context and crunch the numbers.

Speaking mercifully about our hope for those gone before us isn’t far from recognising our own need of mercy.
The Fool’s Prayer
The royal feast was done; the King
Sought some new sport to banish care,
And to his jester cried: “Sir Fool,
Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!”
The jester doffed his cap and bells,
And stood the mocking court before;
They could not see the bitter smile
Behind the painted grin he wore.
He bowed his head, and bent his knee
Upon the Monarch’s silken stool;
His pleading voice arose: “O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!
“No pity, Lord, could change the heart
From red with wrong to white as wool;
The rod must heal the sin: but Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!
“‘Tis not by guilt the onward sweep
Of truth and right, O Lord, we stay;
‘Tis by our follies that so long
We hold the earth from heaven away.
“These clumsy feet, still in the mire,
Go crushing blossoms without end;
These hard, well-meaning hands we thrust
Among the heart-strings of a friend.
“The ill-timed truth we might have kept—
Who knows how sharp it pierced and stung?
The word we had not sense to say—
Who knows how grandly it had rung!
“Our faults no tenderness should ask.
The chastening stripes must cleanse them all;
But for our blunders — oh, in shame
Before the eyes of heaven we fall.
“Earth bears no balsam for mistakes;
Men crown the knave, and scourge the tool
That did his will; but Thou, O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!”
The room was hushed; in silence rose
The King, and sought his gardens cool,
And walked apart, and murmured low,
“Be merciful to me, a fool!”

Hell is not what we were created for, it is not our natural state. We were made to be in communion with God, ourselves and others. The complete and consistent exerction of the will against these ends which would result in someone’s ending up in hell would be a remarkable achievement altogether. I am not saying that there is no one in hell, Jesus himself seems to suggest that there will be sheep as well as goats. What I am saying though is the discordant note of our weakness in these relationships is not the last word for a person of faith who has the vision to keep trying. Each day when we plant our feet on the ground we can decide our path, a path trod in the little, unassuming choices to do some good to bring positivity not pain. Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning
If I lacked anything.
“A guest,” I answered, “worthy to be here”:
Love said, “You shall be he.”
“I, the unkind, ungrateful? Ah, my dear,
I cannot look on thee.”
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
“Who made the eyes but I?”
“Truth, Lord; but I have marred them; let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.”
“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”
“My dear, then I will serve.”
“You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat.”
So I did sit and eat.

Thank you to 3.50pm and 3.57pm. I am the person with the fear of going to hell. The reason for it, and why it heaps higher daily, is my regret and shame about my poor parenting. I have a son, an only child, aged 11, and when he was very young I (his father) was having a mid-life crisis and went off the rails and was absent, going to pubs, having sex with strangers. He, meanwhile was at home with his mother, who is unwell mentally, in large part due to me. I’d give anything to have those years back and spend that time at home having a normal family life. I took him for granted and thought he was more robust than he was. Children feel things deeply and lack the vocab and reasoning powers to deal with it.
I missed his 9th birthday, it was just him and his mother at it. I was in Wetherspoons.
My son now lacks confidence, I believe he is traumatised by the poor childhood and that will have a long shadow his whole life.
Because new effects of that emerge, I am freshly reminded of how I harmed my own child, and that the harms will outlast me. I will never have his childhood back and neither will he. I never thought I’d be a bad father.

Without help I will do destructive behaviours again, including being too lax, out of guilt, as my son goes into teenage years, just when he needs order, stability and predictability.

Once again, thanks to all. I’m very moved and a bit lighter. That is all I’ll say. Thank you.

I have never heard a RC priest ever give a demon about:
Death, judgement, heaven, hell, the last and final judgement or (and most of all this one) the second coming.
I mean never, not once, I could be forgive for thinking that they believe in none of the aforementioned and if they do they haven’t got a clue about how to teach or preach on these things.
I’m pretty sure most clergy haven’t a clue about the second coming and hell well you never here about sin so we ain’t gonna hear about hell.
Jesus referred to hell but may we hope that all men and women will be saved.
I don’t think any parent would jettison their child to an eternity of suffering and anguish therefore perhaps God in his mercy shows mercy on everyone.
I’m fine with the notion that in the intimate and private moments of someone’s life they cry out to God in sorrow and repentance – Hitjler, Stallin, Blair, Bush, 9/12 Bombers, me!!
This much I know – hookers, drinks, drug addicts, pardophiles, murderers, thief’s are in heaven but I’m less sure about clergy who are sure of their righteousness (ontological change) and look down on everyone else.
But hey Gods mercy had no limits, no bounds – I think that ever time I look at a crucifix.
Oh and this I’m sure of – sexual sins are like dirty clothes they are easily washed away – whereas pride, greed and covering up sexual crimes for the sake of the reputation of a monolithic institution is a harder stain to shift.

The only time I have heard a Catholic priest make reference to anything like that he mentioned the rapture and seemed unaware that it isn’t even a mainstream evangelical thing. Hopeless.

The future is in God’s hands. Much better that sermons deal with what has been and what is. The virtue of hope then comes into its own.,

I didn’t know that Fr Faber wrote the lyrics of that powerful, rousing hymn ‘There’s a wideness…’
I’d always associated it with Methodists/Anglicans. So I learned something new today.

#Funfact “O God Our Help in Ages Past” was Ian Paisley’s favourite hymn. It wasn’t written by Fr Faber. The dodgy doctor thought that it was an anthem for the beleaguered Protestant people of Ulster.

Pat, do us all a favour and ban Mulvihill. This awkward contrarian who writes gibberish, passed as pseudo intellectual prose is irritating. He says nothing worthwhile on the issues being discussed. He is, essentially an absurd attention seeker.

7.45: Like the majority of commenters on this blog, I am entitled to subscribe as anonymous. Just like you, you dope. I’m not the first to recognise Mulvihill’s utter gibberish. He’s posing as some clever man but he is a contrarian enigma. I could be a teacher, a civil servant, a doctor, a retired professor, a priest, a religious, a farmer, a fireman… .anything you wish: your pleasure, miss!! 😂🤣😄🤣😂😉👜👜👜😊😋😎😄😄😁..

I think William is great for having the courage to use his own name, one of the few to do so. He is never abusive and does not reply in kind to the abuse he sometimes gets here. I value what he says and there is an authenticity to it. I think if Bishop Buckley is looking for censors to act as gatekeepers and to ban people, he’ll ask for them.

Thank you sincerely…..I appreciate your affirming and kind words. I am endeavouring to find my way in a very new disposition after all my years in the RCC. I attach a value to this Blog, not withstanding it’s punitive application s towards those who don’t match its perfections.

Thank you again. Only kindness matters in the end: second last paragraph of Uffingtons book, The Greatest Lie Ever Told. Only Kindness matters…. All else falls/ will fall away.

The churches (denominations) thriving in England and opening more branches are: a) Hillsong (whose world leader’s (Brian Houston late Pastor father was a convicted child abuser); and b) Holy Trinity Brompton (htb) evangelical Anglican church plants and partnerships (flying under the C of E, as a flag of convenience). There’s even a Dublin Hillsong, no doubt it will be in Belfast, Derry and Larne soon.

It’s so good to see. The church’s real management mistake was to base the bastard in the US to rake the money in – this means the punitive damages under US law will be HUGE, judging by the list in that video.

Nah they need criticising and judging. It might sink in.
And if not they need controlling by law.
Praying for them has obviously not been a resounding success so far.

Obviously members of the Church of England are the only ones left with sufficient understanding of the Catholic faith to know that. 😂

+Pat: I noted your comment concerning Magna a few, days ago. You said that he had “used up” his quota for the day, or similar words to that effect.
Could you please apply the same restriction to William Mulvilill.
I share the opinion of comments above. They are far too repetitive, regularly indecipherable, and extremely weary to have to continually scroll past to seek comments that make sense.
Thank you.
