A DIFFERENT PRIESTLY ORDINATION IN BELFAST ON SUNDAY.

On Sunday, in the Dockers Social Club, in North Belfast, an ordination to the priesthood took place.

The man ordained was Seamus Mac Ghille Aindris.

The ordaining bishop was Archbishop Jonathan Blake of the Open Episcopal Church.

PAT SAYS

Personally, I do not know anyone in this church.

I have visited the social club where the ordination took place.

It is in the North of Belfast – a strongly Catholic and Republican district.

The OEC is very strongly supportive of the LGBT community.

WHATS BEHIND THE COMMUNITY CHURCH MOVEMENT?

I think on the one hand this movement is the result of some people’s disillusionment with the Catholic and other mainstream churches.

Some people walk away and forget the whole thing.

Others, like people in the OEC, have decided to keep their faith in God, form community groups and erect their own “churches” and meet for prayer and worship.

I do think we will see more of this as the mainstream churches decline.

I also think that more LGBT people will join groups like this feeling the alienation they do from the Catholic and other mainstream churches.
