WHAT AUTHORITY HAS A PARISH PRIEST IN 2021?

The PP of Coleraine (recently moved into Ardmore, is angry that his parishioners went over his head to the bishop.

BE ON YOUR GUARD – I KNOW WHO YOU ARE” !

Here he speaks about it at Mass in Coleraine:

Rev Dr James McGrory PP

Fe / Dr McGrory the spoke about his authority being challenged by some parishioners.

Its interesting that some priests are still speaking about their authority.

In my opinion, the RCC and its bishops and priests have no authority at all anymore – except over those foolish people who want them to have authority over them ie: the masochists who want to be under the authority of the sadists 😄

Its not like the old times in Ireland when the PP went beating courting couples out of hedges with their blackthorn stick.

Maybe the kind parishioners of Ardmore will purchase a blackthorn for their new PP?

MORE HOMOSEXUAL PREDATION IN THE CHURCH IN THE USA.

I’m not a Michael Voris fan – BUT Church Militant is exposing big dirt in the American Church.

DENIS “AN COILEACH” NULTY

There is a strong rumour among the clergy that Nulty is getting the archdiocese of Tuam.

Apparently, his nose was out of joint when Farrell got Dublin.

10.31: What a very foolish and deluded priest. To speak so threatenungly about parishioners is contemptible. What school of leading did he emerge from. Yes, priests often put up with much nonsense from some parishioners but his reaction is outrageous and unacceptable. Very unwise priest.

Well, Bishop Pat, will you be the focus for his ire in his next homily? He’s probably ordering a hit on you! Sounds like the Tony Soprano of the clerical world.

I actually got the video from one of his new parishioners in Ardmore who said the following:

Hello Pat,

You might remember that I emailed you two weeks ago regarding Fr. Mcgrory who has become PP here in Ardmore. He’s only been here a few days and has gone down like a lead balloon. I enclose a link to a YouTube video of a recent Mass in Coleraine. I found a short section of his sermon, 10 minutes into the clip, a bit disturbing. I’d appreciate your thoughts about this.

Yours,

No wonder the arrogant PP has a congregation of four. If he carries on with his bullying he will find himself alone in the church and no cash.

Dear Bishop Pat,
I follow your blog with interest and agree with much of your efforts to expose the shadows of the RC Church in Ireland today. However I know Bishop Nulty personally and believe him to be one of the few men of integrity in the Irish Bishop’s Conference. He was a former diocesan colleague of Dermot Farrell and I doubt he harbours any jealousy toward him or his appointment as you allege. Having personal integrity and decency Bishop Denis would have no occasion to harbour such pejorative sentiment towards Dermot Farrell. Please afford some balance to decent men who try their best, as I believe they are few and far between.

Like

You know what this congregation is like. They accept nobody, issues lie with the people in the Parish.

It’s a poisoned chalice, only the mentally ill could tolerate this rare bunch long term.

Like

Apparently he was just not involving his parishioners and would not listen to any of their suggestions.

Rumour has it he behaved this way to get out of the Coleraine parish. He’s twisted that man. Worst PP we have ever had.

Like

I doubt very much that Denis resented Dermot’s elevation. They are two very different people each with a lot to give, each making a significant contribution to the church and the gospel in Ireland. Very few would have considered Denis in Maynooth as ever leading a diocese. He was a very pleasant seminarian. Dermot has a tough side to him which has served to do much good. Rome must value Denis. He’s leading two diocese. While Dermot is absolutely the right choice for Dublin, Let’s face it, Dublin and Armagh are high profile appointments, in that order. Tuam or Cashel are just like the rest of Irish dioceses. And Denis would be fine in any other diocese.

It is most upsetting when a Priest threatens his flock it is the low of the low and the Bishop should remove him.
The Priests role in 2021 and going forward is the Sacramental Life of the Church and if does not see that is his main role then he is in the wrong place.
Canon Law states pastoral Councils have to be formed in every parish and dioceses and they will see to the building works and the running of the parish finances sadly this priest is stuck in the 90’s ME ME ME.
I hope the people who will be offended again and they contact the Bishop and make him apologise to ALL
Some clergy will just not let go.
Priests are Ordained for the Sacraments.

Pat, like yourself, all who present as shepherds, Christian Leaders and priests, have little relevance for 21st century Ireland. Many of us individually may make a difference in the lives of others by our kindness in ministry but we know life has irrevocably changed. You know that as much as any of us. What “authority” have you andbwhat dies it mean to you? I never thought of authority as an attitude or attribute I required to live out ministerial priesthood. Never. Having reflected much over the years I understand that the only “authorityy” is that of total service – almost impossible – in imitation of Christ. A daily task and decision. It is very unfair and offensive of you to speak of genuine Church goers as follish and being like masochists under the rule of racists. Your mixed up images may be more reflective of your life than most priests I know. And certainly the 1000 or more who come to weekend masses in our Parish are far from being the type you describe. For me they are “..the SALT of the earth..”, the ones who in the Beatitudes imagery are truly blessed and who bless us by their prayer and Christian living. I’m saddened that you find it necessary to sneer at and mock the good, faithful people of God. Thankfully, the masochists and sadists have vanished from our congregations and gone to fringe, looney outfits!!! Even.then they wreak havoc..

+Michael Neary was an excellent pastor to the people and priests of the Archdiocese of Tuam. I hope Nulty doesn’t get the seat.

It would be an idea to run that conclusion by the Tuam clergy. How would they review the last quarter ofa century?
M. Neary’s day is done. His tune is sung. May he have a long and happy retirement. And may his successor bring many talents to bear on the diocese! Why does it have to be a sitting bishop? Someone like Stephen Farragher or Joseph Gavigan of Achonry would both bring many gifts to the role.

I think Cus there is such a small congregation they are treating us with contempt and send us people nobody wants.

Of course, only in relatively recent times, the Church in Ireland has suddenly found itself without authority on the island, unlike before.
I once remember reading Desdemona Connell banned Bertie Ahern’s lady friend from accompanying him to any official Church functions.

Very sad that the Parish Priest made a threat to these people by telling them to be on their guard that he knows who they are. What a sad control freak. And he probably claims to be a Christian. Also Pat, I would think that Doran or Monahan will get Tuam before Nulty. I could see Nulty possibly been in line eventually for Cashel & Emily.

‘Be on your guard, I know who you are!’
Who does this man think he is?!
It’s the people’s parish, not the priests!
And even if he does know, what was he going to do?! Nothing!

If you view authority as giving you a power to lord it over others and teach that your view alone is what matters, then that kind of authority is out. An authority of domination, of dictat, of ignoring everyone, of lecturing, of bullying and not ever truly listening is completely unjustified. The only authority given is the authority of love as lived by Jesus. However, in an administrative role a priest must ensure that all is going well according to the various guidelines, protocols and procedures which each Diocese implements. These are essentials and the administrator has the “authority” to ensure the correct implementation of all necessary policies and guudelines. But in our interaction with people the only authority is that of love, caring and kindness, all founded on, in and through Christ. Christ alone is the foundation. Sadly, our moral integrity and reputation is almost non existent for obvious reasons – all issues re: sexual child abuse, treatment of gay people and LGBTQ issues. The cover up by Church authorities has shredded our moral voices. Now, in parishes, priests focus in ministry which enriches the life of the community and in a strange way, this is where we are trusted and affirmed in lovely ways. Within the parish setting, unless you are a non interactive and aloof, people support, encourage, trust and affirm our ministry. But for the bigger picture…..not so, sadly.

9:23, fair comment. There is administrative authority. Some people conflate that authority with their own view of authority to beat the good clergy with a blackthorn stick. ☹️

The stupid parish priest would be advised to mind his language – that is essentially a threat and typical of the type of Christianly practiced by the Catholic church. i.e. not Christian at all.

I would be incredibly cautious in believing anything Voris says due to the highly unethical and misleading methods of Voris and his team. There’s a wonderful series of videos done by a former SSPX priest who left the cult to come out and live a more authentic and whole life. Voris’ team got word of him and approached him, originally as an attack on SSPX and when the former priest declined to give them an interview, they made up stories about him, accusing him of being sexually active in rhe SSPX seminary, twisting celibate friendships into sexual relationships and stealing unrelated pictures from his social media to back them up. Voris is a despicable character with a serious agenda and axe to grind.

Like

I honestly couldn’t answer that one, I happened upon the man’s YouTube channel and he seems to have defected from SSPX so, I don’t think he covers that. Maybe an answer can be found somewhere. I would surmise that given Voris and Marshall are now out and out supporters of SSPX, opponents of FSSP and ICK, the Archbishop doesn’t have to do anything. For all the Roman church has major issues, it’s clear that the rad trads have gone into unofficial schism and formed alliances with SSPX.

Father McGrory is a lovely man. He is also a good priest. He is also, human. He can have a bad day and say things we don’t necessarily mean or in the context in which it has been perceived. We don’t need to publicly attack people all the time over one mishap. God will forgive him for any wrong action or words he articulated – so we can all move on.

McGrory committed a public order offence – aren’t we watching him intentionally causing harassment, alarm / distress to some of his parishioners?

Threatening parishners is unacceptable. If they have issues they feel he has not resolved or not resolved satisfactorily, then the right protocol is to go to the bishop!

Voris is driven by an authentic zeal to expose and challenge the wrongdoing in the American church. Unfortunately, his message is lost, as he is completely obsessed with the ex-Cardinal McCarrick. He is, however, right, that much of the American episcopate is made in the image and likeness of McCarrick, and that is a dreadful reality. Additionally, he displays a McCarthyite obsession about the relationship of the church and China. He also gives credence to anti-vaccination theories that are just nuts. And, that is why at times it is difficult to take him seriously, but in some ways his prophetic but flawed like the rest of us.

Voris’ revelations/allegations about Lucas, Harmon, Vann, O’Brien and others are shocking.

Why aren’t they suing Church Militant? Probably because the allegations are true.

McCarrick has caused devastation to the American Church. And his protégés like Cupich, “Night night baby, I love you” Tobin and that odious Buffoon Dolan, continue to poison the Church’s mission.

If the Church wasn’t in such a mess there would no need for men like Michael Voris and Pat Buckley.

Pope Francis seems to be just making things worse. Has there ever been a more confused and confusing Pope?

On the one hand, rightly, he calls abortion homicide and, on the other, from the other side of his mouth, he offers gobbledygook about those “Catholics”, who shamelessly promote the homicide of children receiving the Eucharist!

God help us!!

Four Maynooth seminarians die in a car accident and go before the pearly gates of St Peter. St Peter asks them one question “have you ever touched a penis?” The first seminarian, Mark, answers, “yes, with the tip of my pinky finger.” St. Peter says, “well, dip the tip of your finger in the holy water, and you may be admitted.” The second seminarian confesses that he had touched one with both hands. St Peter says, ” well, wash your hands in the Holy Water, and you may be admitted.” The third seminarian, Steven, pushes in front and is all flustered. St Peter quizzed him as to why he pushed in front of John-Paul as there was no rush. Steven replies, “well, if I am to gargle the holy water, I’d better do so before John-Paul washes his arse in it.”

Bishop Buckley, to revisit an earlier Blog this week on an important matter; may I suggest that Dermot Ferriter in todays Irish Times be required reading for “The Church Leaders” involved with the upcoming function in Armagh. Their ” Prayer Egos” are mudding the waters further as they extend invitations to Irish and U.K Governments now( as reported in media today). The last sentence of the Ferriter article is a synopsis of the matter for the church leaders. In the guise of prayer their leadership has let everyone down….they can still row back…..but church leaders seldom do that…why? They play the God card for their own ego ends. That is with individuals or any collective no matter the Tradition. Eamonn Martin has made an error of judgment ….again.

Ireland should try becoming an agnostic country. Let both halves do what they are doing on grounds of its merits and not cake it in particular formats of ecumenism. Sentimentality has become dangerous worldwide in the past three years. A prayer meeting is for who wants to represent themselves. Let God take care of intractable relationships and jaded memories in His space (that’s what prayer to God is supposed to be for), don’t contrive because it will backfire. If they want to pray for their country/ies they should leave everyone else be, who can actually do the same unostentatiously at home if they feel like it (that’s what agnostic means). Bishops shouldn’t be looking for political status by whipping up the mob of sentiment in order to immorally and emotionally blackmail. Is Eamon running a cult?

However, those who have already spoken about the parishioners in this area are spot on, it is not an easy place to work.

They unfortunately have a lot of issues and are stuck in very old times. How many PP is that they have gone through in the last decade?

Parishioners need to look very hard at themselves in this matter. I don’t condone Jim’s choice of words but he was a frustrated man that day and I, would like to take the opportunity to apologise to everyone that was hurt by it.
