THE CATHOLIC ANTI VAXXERS.

PAT SAYS:

I cannot believe the way otherwise intelligent people are not taking the Covid vaccinations and encouraging others not to have them.

I got my vaccinations in February and April and got Covid in July.

Thanks to the vaccinations I got a very mild dose of Covid which was indeed unpleasant but not serious.

The people I’ve come across against the vacvines are mainly religious right-wingers, both Catholic and Protestant ones.

And some of them actually believe that the vaccines are a global conspiracy so that governments can track them – and also weaken their immune system.

And yet they all carry mobile phones – perfect devices for tracking people!

COVID PASSPORTS:

I am in favour of Covid passports.

If people have the right not to be vaccinated then the rest of have the right to not be infected by them.

With every right there is an obligation. The right not to have the vaccine gives you the increased responsability not to infect others

And if you choose not to have the vaccine you nust accept that the rest of have the right not to be in close proximity to you.

THE USE OF TISSUE FROM THE ABORTED:

I am anti-abortion except in the rarest of cases.

But the majority of people in many countries have voted for it and there is little or nothing we can do about it.

The fact that tissue from aborted babies was used in the production if the vaccines is something over which we had no control.

Refusing the vaccine because of the way in which they were manufactured is not necessarily a moral obligation for us.

In one way it’s the lesser of two evils. Not taking the vaccine and getting very sick or dying is not a moral obligation.

The anti vaxxers are so dangerous that they have convinced some people not to partake of any vaccination. It’s not just Catholics who are anti vaxxers. This insidious grouping of conspirators are from all strata of professions – medical, clerical, immunologists, academics, people who have genuine moral objections. I was in a small shop recently getting a sandwich and a guy beside wasn’t wearing a mask. When asked by the server, he said – “I don’t believe in all that s**t”. He was allowed to stay. I objected but he told me to mind my own business!! He should have been asked to leave. I do however believe there is a fuller truth to be told about the origin of covid-19…we may yet get that truth. In the meantime we must care for the well-being of one another.

10.16pm maybe you should just stay at home with the doors and windows shut and not face the risk of meeting the unmasked.

People are not allowed in shops without vaccines but saying that I don’t see free disposable masks at the door with every sanitosor, for people who forget them or don’t have one handy, forever forced to pay a euro for one, nó thanks government!

Even the SSPX have a statement on their website using Catholic theology to say it’s ok to take the vaccine in the circumstances.

I know loads of people that contracted covid last year before the roll out of vaccines that only got mild doses of covid, some of them barely got a headache and tested positive!
Plenty of others got bad doses, along with deaths of course!
Not sure how you can rate what way you would take covid without a vaccine in comparison to with it, if you’ve never experienced both!
Just saying!

The difference is the virus has mutated and the current Delta strain is more virulent and transmissible. Research has clearly shown the benefits of taking the vaccine on ameliorating the impact of the virus against those who choose not to be vaccinated and the increased risk of being hospitalised and dying by not doing so. Educate yourself.

Like

If the vaccine was created to help protect from the first strain, I fail to fully understand how it protects against all the new variants that have mutated since…

Like

10:42
Hence the booster.
It is mutating so fast because people are allowing it to pass on. Vaccines work because they get the potential for transmission and mutation down so low that the virus can’t sustain its own life any more.

If a person is vaxxed, why do they care about the unvaxxed or the unmasked? Either the vaccines they vaxxed have had work or they don’t.

Pat, I am a 72 year old priest on the Island of Ireland. I am gay, although this is the first time I have said that in any public forum. I am addicted to Gay porn on the net especially twinks, young men with slim sexy bodes. I wank myself silly looking at them late into the night. I have never given physical expression to my sexual desires with any other person, and at this stage of my life I don’t think I ever will. I do however feel filthy. I feel I have violated in my heart all that I have been called to. When I give holy communion to young men I experience intense sexual desire which torments me. I lust after young men in an unhealthy way but only in my heart. Will God forgive me?

Like

Well, you have taken a very important first step by talking about it.
Your thoughts are very distressing for you and you have not acted out and therefore have hurt no one else.
Feeling filthy does not help you. You need to come to see your issues from a more professional and objective angle.
You do need to talk to someone to externalise your distress.
If you want to talk to me anonymously I am happy to chat. I have done rhis many times before. 0044 7488 374364

Miserable sinner: I’m not a cleric or Catholic but it seems to me you are talking about two different things. I quite see why you would be bothered by the porn addiction.
However the sexual feelings when giving communion are a different thing. Are you bothered by then because it’s when giving communion or because you are feeling them at all? TBH those feelings seem to me to be normal human ones and you can’t turn them off at communion!

Custodia occulorum, or custody of the eyes, is a practice with a long history, exhorted by St. Francis of Assisi and, in its recent past, used as a penance by those pursuing a rigorous spiritual life.

But to the rest of us, it just means holding ourselves accountable for what we choose to look at.

That was my impression as well but as usual the piss takers give Pat an opportunity to show his quality.

Another Fact.. At least half of ALL mobile phones are infected with Key Stroke malware (cookies EVERYTHING you type and forwards it) – both Apple / iOS and Android! You’d better believe it! 😉

99.1% of people who contract Covid will have no, mild or moderate symptoms. Fetal cell lines – cells grown in a laboratory based on aborted fetal cells collected generations ago – were used in testing during research and development of the vaccines. I am not sure what kind of theological gymnastics are required to square this? I’d be grateful if someone could enlighten me.

Like

The SSPX explanation is that the vaccine will reduce future deaths and a bit about the distance from the termination. it’s already happened and it’s to prevent further deaths, type of thing.

Like

Sounds a bit like Joseph Fletcher’s situational ethics which the RCC had always condemned.

Moreover, it remains for each individual to judge, with the help of appropriate advice, this real need.
It must be clearly stated that we are here in the domain of a prudent judgment, which cannot be uniform for all and in all cases. Moral theology says what is lawful or unlawful. It gives the principles. But it is for personal prudence to judge their application on a case-by-case basis. So discriminating against those who have used prudent judgment and decided not to be vaccinated is a denial of freedom of conscience

Of course they don’t ‘believe’ in evidence based medicine because they don’t understand how to evaluate it. Ironically it is these same people who are vulnerable to thinking they’ve got fictional diseases like leaky gut and chronic lyme disease, and then to pay Megabucks for fake treatments.
In the UK there’s an easy way to tell – as a general rule if you can’t get it on the NHS there is no good evidence it works. In payment driven health systems they tend to be driven by what the customer thinks they want, unfortunately.
My favourite quack remedy is for mucoid plaques. These are build up of mucous and food in the bowel which supposedly don’t come out when you defecate. 11.04: Seamus, the world has moved on since Feb. 2020. The pandemic has irrevocably changed the spirutual landscape. I do not believe we will ever regain the same congregation as we had pre-covid. Life has changed so much and I’m afraid it’s not so much that Bishops are asleep at the wheels as that the wheels have buckled to the point of being almost irreparable. The tyres are punctured and there is little to fill the vacuum left by the pandemic effects, not just spiritually but in a myriad of ways. We have as yet to assimilate the psychological effects caused by the pandemic. There is a lot of “rebuilding” to occur and the Church is being profoundly challenged. After a year and a half living with restrictions and in trying to recreate a new approach to ministry, it is more difficult now than ever before: relationships have changed: expectations in parishes have changed: priestly interacting has changed: our presence and work as priests is troubled and troubling. Seamus, you sometimes think in black and white concepts which doesn’t get to the truth of matters.

Isn’t it a bit selfish of those who tremble behind the sofa, striken with fear of covid, who ask that we destroy the economy, wreck education, shred the mental health of children, see soaring deaths from suicide, cancer and other undiagnosed conditions, just so the frightened can feel safe from a diease with a 99.9% recovery rate and mostly affecting those above the usual life span.

Those risk-averse people, wetting the bed with fear, and expecting everyone to live like them, are the selfish ones in all of this.

To me it’s obvious why Christians of all stripes would be against health care: even if they are pro-life the preferred state of human life for them is for them and all of humanity to be dead and bring on the end of time that they long for.
Individual Christians would want to be dead to begin their eternity in heaven.
Isn’t this obvious to everyone?

And when they’re dead, why are the clergy praying for them: either they’re “up there singing “, or “down there stinging!”
Isn’t this aul religion business a right hocus pocus gobbledygook?

Like

Well yes, quite. I suppose there are a few obvious reasons for that such as attachment to loved ones, not being certain of salvation, feeling that you still have stuff to do, but yes it’s a very strange contradiction.
I do wonder how much people really believe their religion in a concrete way, though, and I don’t think the idea of sin is enough to explain why people do things which are totally against their professed religion.

Come on – everyone knows that UK medical practitioners were putting Covid 19 as cause of death on nearly every death certificate

Like

That’s because where it says cause of death they put what caused the death.
The reason covid caused so many deaths was that even if the person had terminal illness, getting covid causes breathing problems and that’s what kills you.
Most people die from an infection.

1:25,
Fair comment that if Covid 19 was detected it was being put on death certificates and it was even used for the number of people in hospital with the virus.
At the same time however, you must look at the pressure hospitals came under in many countries when the virus got out of control.
Noone in government wanted to be shutting the country down as much as they had to at the end of December 2020. The Tánaiste was running the CMO over a bus for no good reason, and even reversing it back for good measure. Governments wanted to be free of covid restrictions but with hospitals overwhelmed, they had no choice but to act.
