DEAR SINEAD………

JOHN JOSEPH MURRAY – CONVICTED

A letter to a priest’s victim on the occasion of his been convicted and sentenced for his abuse of her 40 years ago.

JOHN MURRAY STANDING BEHIND SINEAD ON HER FIRST HOLY COMMUNION DAY – PRESSING HIS ERECTION INTO HER BACK!

Dear Sinead,

After 40 years of intense personal suffering your abuser has now being publicly shamed, convicted and sentenced for his vicious abuse of you as an an innocent little girl.

I know that now you have been vindicated in your accusations against him but just a day after his sentencing all the pain and trauma is flooding back into your life, you heart, your head.

This suffering is more intense because your abuser, MURRAY, played the dementia card during his trial, urged on by his lawyers, and instead of being sent to prison for years he is now being allowed to return home to his Down and Conor diocesan home to live on his diocesan pension and be cared for under the “supervision” of the SS ! – social services.

When accused he had fled to his nice apartment in Gran Canaria, where he golfed, wined and dined daily – while you sat at home in Belfast in the midst of your sorrows, pains and misery.

The judge accepted the dementia diognosis – but as someone who has known Murray for bearly 50 years I am left asking, as are others, whether this is one of Murray’s stunts – the stunts he is as famous for. His life was all about stunts, golfing, wining and dining at others expense, and using and abusing women.

Sinead, when you go to court you seldom get justice and always get law.

You and your fellow victims have not received justice. You have received law – cold, heartless law – law that can always be bought by both lies and money.

Charles Dickens’ Mr Bumble quite rightly said – “the law is an ass – an idiot”.

Today you are attempting to recover from your recent kick from that vicious ass, that cynical idiot.

But you will recover – just like you recovered from so many hard knocks in your life.

You are not finished with Murray. He needs to be dismissed from the priesthood and eventually buried in an ignominious grave as Mr Murray.

You also need to deal with those people in the Roman Catholic Church – bishops and priests who knew all about Murray’s abuse of women and covered it up and even laughed it off with: “Oh dear. That’s JJ for you”.

Sinead, you are stronger than you think.

You survived vicious abuse by a paedophile priest.

You have battled with your demons for 40 years now – and SURVIVED!

You have maintained a strong faith in God.

You will get from God what the liars and lawyers deprived you of – JUSTICE.

It has been absolute honour and privilege to walk by your side for these last 6 or 7 years and I will continue to walk by your side and hold your hand.

Be calm, be strong, hold your head high.

You have overcome the power of Hell without and within.

You are God’s blossom and the scent of your courage and pain, distilled in your tears, is a delight to Jesus who has plans for your future beyond your wildest dreams.

With love,

Your friend,

Pat

+Pat: It does you no credit to allow such a completely unacceptable comment as this @ 11:07. It is demeaning, and that you publish it demeans you.
The more I read of this blog I’m becoming more inclined to cease following it as it continues to descend into crudity and inanity

10.25: I also agree with you. I expressed my view to Pat about the disgusting, abusive comment. I am glad it is removed. It should never have been printed. There is a concerning, on-going problem – the printing of some horrendous commentary. We’ve had much in the past few days with a huge amount talking about and making allegations against clerics, all unproven. Pat: please tell us why you allow such vicious, abusive and dangerous comments. You owe your followers an explanation. I am beginning to wonder recently about your own emotional capacity.

Good to see him facing the courts and thank you, Pat, for supporting Sinead. It must be horrible going through the courts and it often seems so drawn-out and needs a lot of strength and resilience to keep going. I am sure he only pleaded guilty in order to get a lighter sentence. He could have admitted his guilt years ago.

I hope this verdict encourages other victims to come forward too.

Like

Yes and hopefully that will cause his punishment to be increased to something which will actually punish him. No sex offender ever has only one victim and this cunt’s brazenness suggests there’s a lot he’s got away with.

Like

Well of course he has done nothing wrong in the eyes of the church and is a priest in good standing.
I believe Lawrence Soper was dismissed from Ealing abbey while on the run from the police so there is an apparent inconsistency here.

That’s a premature conclusion and an unfair one. Now that the civil process has taken place a canonical one will get underway, if it has not already begun. We may speculate what the outcome of that may be but will have to await the result of due process.

Like

You’d think that a criminal conviction would be sufficient evidence. Pat was excommunicated latae sententiae (I hope I’m spelling that correctly) ie he was excommunicated by dint of the act itself, with no judicial process, but Fr Murray has to have a long drawn out canonical trial. I don’t understand why.

The number of actions which occur a latae sententiae is strictly limited. I think it’s only six.

I share your dreams, desires and prayers for Sinead. I will leave God to deliver the ultimate judgment on her abuser. I can only wish and pray that Sinead, despite knowing her abuser is not imprisoned, will face each day with a deep belief in her self-worth and uniqueness as God’s child. I have helped people who required support, advice, therapy and counselling in a myriad of their life’s adversaries which almost crushed some. Empathy and compassion are essential when people express their wounds, hurts and abuse. If we are not able to help sufficiently, we should seek out professional support for people which I have done. The legacy of sexual abuse by clerics in particular seems unforgivable. I forgave my abuser long after his death but the memory remains. I’m never sure if I was or am emotionally damaged as my life is a little distressed and disturbed at times. I hope and pray that Sinead will meet each day with trust to get through as she has so far done. Pat, you are kind to journey with Sinead.

I hope the priest who caused me and my family so much tortuous pain is held to account. I really am finding it difficult, all the while, with no feedback or acknowledgment.
It is killing me.
I wish something would just happen to bring about a sense of calmness to this unending and tortuous unrest.

Marray is very fortunate to have been sentenced to home detention. He must have managed to persuade the court that he had infirmity / illness / lack of capacity to warrant being sent to prison. Not enough to stop him being put on trial, however. I guess it will mean that he will not be able to go off on holiday to the sun, go for a round of golf, or pop out for a nice meal in a swanky hotel. He should count himself very fortunate, indeed. I know that many prisons these days have special wings for elderly and infirm prisoners, which is an increasing population in prison, a function of the fact that prisoners are living longer, and a reflection of the fact that many people are being sentenced for historical crimes later in life, invariably of a sexual abuse nature. Murray strikes me as an arrogant, entitled man, and it is right that he has been brought low in the interests of justice. I would imagine that he will still be supported by the diocese, probably with housing, stipend and expenses. As to being laicised, I guess that is a given in due course ? All in all, he has got off very lightly. I’m not sure that’s especially for the best. I think a lot of us would have preferred to see him do some time in prison, “pour encourager les autres” !

Murray got an Absolute Discharge from the court.
The Judge in His kindness just did not want Murray walking away Free so the Judge involved Social Services and the outcome is Murray has NEVER to be left with children alone.
The Full Murray family will be supervised by Social Services with reports for as long as Murray lives and I would like to think his Nieces and Nephews would not be happy with that as they have to give reports to Social Services via the action plan.
Murray was NOT place on the sex offenders list due to his alleged dementia but for years his family and relations will have social services breathing down their back.

Down and Connors safeguarding officer Philip O’Hara was on the live stream so he knows the Judge made it very clear Murray would be going to jail for not weeks or months but years.

The vitamins need to contact Bishop Noel to ask what action he is taking against Murray and when will his name be removed from D & C.

As for the Parochial house Bishop Noel will be dammed if he removes Murray and he will be Dammed if he does not and Pat will likely be the first to say Bishop Noel has thrown Murray out.

The safeguarding officer Philip O’Hara could have removed Murray off the D & C register within hours but he has failed to do that.

There needs to be an Email from the Victims asking Bishop Noel what he intends to do now.

I hope the Media got the full story and the Murray Family has ALL been placed under Social Services supervision with the action plan agreed by them and Social Services.

00% Credit to Judge Jerard, Probation Services and Social Services as they wanted Justice however I hope the Solicitors do not sleep at night as it would have been a big money making for them.

He was to be placed on the list.
The evil padre’s brother spoke of the difficulties experienced when he accompanied his brother to sign the Sex Offenders Register; “It was an ordeal to get him into the police station. He fell asleep and was actually incapable of signing it, but the police officer accepted this.”
Surely the evil padre must be added to the Register regardless of whether he can sign it or not?

I hope he is under strict house arrest with no access to the internet and phone. No way should he be allowed out in public without supervision and preferably handcuffed. His passport must be confiscated. I think they used to deal with his type in Ireland by feeding them to the Pigs. There isn’t a trace left afterwards.

the way the QC, Solicitor and family made Murray out he should be in a care home however the Murray family are going to look after him 24/7 so they say.
He was not even fit to be placed in a state hospital as he is supposed to be so unfit and needing supervision 24/7 at home.
The Dioceses will be working with Solicitors to see what can be done as he is in a Parochial house and that will need to be addressed.
The Judge was s100% with the victims and their statements and he said he had a further insight as to how these perpetrators work and the pain and emotions left.and in fairness to the Judge his hands were tied.
The media should pick up on the story and the family will be mortified.

Isn’t it funny how there are fewer comments today than yesterday. The commenters yesterday (despite us being repeatedly lied to that few priests comment here) obviously have something else to do on a Sunday morning and aren’t interested in one of their own getting a mere slap on the wrist for sexual assault.
In fact they’re probably giving thanks.

@9.53, I agree that there is a very different feel to the comments today and there are far fewer of them than yesterday. I wonder why?

Like

12:25 It’s exactly what I said – the blog is always remarkably different on Sundays and Mondays. The difference in tone always happens depending on the subject matter.
If it’s a current serving priest who is suspended for something not criminal the comments become a bitch fest. The holy priests may have a score to settle and you will notice they bring up other clergy who they want exposed here.
If the subject is related to church politics they all go for each other.
If it’s a matter that ends up in court they get very subdued.
Conclusion: the clergy are a bunch of politicking back stabbing bitches who live in fear of the law preventing them getting away with whatever they want to do.
Comments such as today are from concerned laity who expect the clergy to be held to account. Obviously there will be some crossover but the Occam’s razor explanation is this.
Cue protests from bitter queeny clergy.

Like

I agree with you completely, 1.31pm. Yesterday, there were lists of priests named whose only fault seemed to be that they had decided to give up being priests, which shows honour in accepting that it wasn’t right for them at this stage in their lives. Those lists could only be known by priests, so all the whooping and hollering was point scoring and laying sprats in the hope of catching a mackerel.

Now you say it, I agree that Mondays are different on the blog too.

The queeny bitching is not something that adult men should be doing.

Like

3:08 I totally agree that adult men wouldn’t be queeny bitching – however mature men are not attracted to RC priesthood and are then prevented from maturing by the strictures of clerical life.
The only positive spin would be a parallel to the research that people leave churches or religions as a development rather than ‘lapsing’ – the number of clergy leaving would suggest there are fewer men willing to serve their mother.
Actually that sounds so Freudian 🥒🌽🍌

Home detention is a light sentence. All it means is that he must live at an address agreed by the authorities. He has to stay at the address from 7pm to 7am each day and during those hours he must wear an electronic tag from 7pm to 7am, which sets off an alarm if he leaves the house. It is fitted to the ankle every day just before 7pm by someone from a private security firm, who then calls back at 7am to remove it. He can then go wherever he likes during the hours the tag is off.

He never got Home Detention.
He got an Absolute Discharge.
They made him out so ill and all the Judge could give him was an Absolute Discharge.
The family have agreed to an action plan to look after him and make sure he is never left alone with children and they must work with the Social Services.
Murray has placed his relations all under Social Services until he dies which is shocking as it will need to go on the children’s records that their Uncle has to be nowhere near them.
It seems he is deteriorating fast
The Dioceses will need to act fast or he will be buried a father let us hope not.
If he was able he could go on Holiday anytime where there is No children near him.

It would be interesting if there was someone who could do a forensic investigation in to exactly how much, who, and when the Diocese knew about Murray. That may take one back to previous bishops and VGs etc. But, it could be a salutary lesson to the clerical apparatchiks that they too have a culpability in all likelihood, going on other cases, in this matter. I would bet that there was something known or recorded about Murray decades before, and which was conveniently swept under the carpet and forgotten about, until it couldn’t be ignored any longer because of the victims’ perseverance with + Pat’s help. It seems that Murray has got away pretty lightly, but that does not mean that others should not be held accountable. So, + Pat, why not pursue this and, if there is some connivance, coverup, or culpability on the part of the Church and diocese, then that should be made transparent and there should be a reckoning and accounting. Maybe the present crew didn’t know much, but I bet their predecessors did, and since they were acting in an official and diocesan role rather than just as private individuals, then the diocese will have a vicarious responsibility in this matter. It should cost them reputation and it should cost them money. The latter hurts them and punishes them, and that would be just.

Discredit where discredit’s due…the reputation of the Rcc in Ireland is in tatters. Every diocese on the Island of Ireland needs to be independently investigated. Such an investigation is long overdue.

“The law is an ass- an idiot” Famous enough quote and more commonly used among students and practitioners of law than one might think. So often after investigations are concluded and reports have been filed or decisions reached things are still not as they could be. Due process and the rule of law are the hallmark of a civilized society and as European law tells us, our common heritage. However it is so often the case that justice reached is only an approximation leaving still something to be desired and things still unresolved in the lives and hearts of those affected. “It is better to take refuge in the the Lord than to trust in men”.

As one of the survivors’ of murrays evil intended abuse I can catagorically say that I am absolutely devastated with this outcome. I can’t eat, sleep or think straight.
On Friday 22nd of October I rang Lisbreen House regarding the defrocking of murray.
I was told that I would receive a return phone call from a fr Gerard Fox, but as usual after a 2hr wait until 5pm, no such call happened. My heart is breaking thinking if he does this again to another innocent child and I’ve sat back and done nothing, then I’m as complicit as the church and so many other’s who turned a blind eye. Justice is certainly not what people think it is, although, I will be eternally grateful to the jury who saw through the lies and deception certain individuals made me out to be. Lies, lies and more lies. When I put my hand on the bible and my other up to God and swore to tell the truth; thats exactly what I did! As for people using the terminology of ‘historical abuse’? Let me tell you that there’s nothing historical about it other than a date. We live with this every day and night. It never goes away. For all of the ignorance I’ve read through this blog I ask myself ‘to what God do ‘they’ pray to? Well, I can assure you that it’s not the same God who I love and pray to, so they will have to answer to my God for their dirty deeds, evil doings, greed, rape, pillaging, violent sexual abuse of little innocent children, women and men for their own gratification and lying through all of it! They’re not ‘men’ of God! The devil has infiltrated the church and they know it!! How many more innocent childrens’ lives have to be ruined before someone stops this?????
Let the law be responsible for any other child who is abused by these wolves in sheep’s clothing!

Precisely; ‘ there’s nothing historical about it other than a date. We live with this every day and night. It never goes away.’ NEVER. Many clerics masquerade as men of God, but are agnostics or atheists, having lost whatever faith they might have had. Bishops resort to re-traumatizing survivors who come forward while lighting candles in cathedrals once a year to remember victims of clerical abuse-hypocrisy, if ever! Today at Mass, the priest said, Ireland is now mission territory. Physicians (priests, bishops, abbots) heal thy-selves.

2:49 I quite take your point but if the diocese have done anything to compromise his trial or not dealt with him, I think the diocese should be forced to foot the bill for him for the rest of his life and the taxpayer should not be paying for this shambles.

Bankrupting a diocese would be great and will discourage more priests who will be the first to feel the pinch.

This is an appalling breach of trust by a religious. Unforgivable. The Vatican State, the RCC in Ireland and each and every religious must face the truth now or face the truth when they encounter St Peter. The Church is in a state of flux. Covering up and ignoring wrongdoing cannot continue. We must all pursue the truth with determination. Fellow religious must be called out for actions that are inconsistent with their vows, those guilty of sin must leave the Church and beg forgiveness.

It’s very silly of some commenters today to suggest that the “supposed” deficit of “clerics” commenting is indicative of their disinterest in Sinead’s trauma of abuse. There are, I contend, only a small number of clerics who comment on this blog and some of them use this blog to tear each other apart. Generally these “bitchy” ones know each other and try to denigrate and demean each other in nasty ways. The remaining few clerics try to engage meaningfully on Pat’s blog. Yesterday, the Fr. King story attracted a lot of new names: Laura: Paula: Tarina: Gertrude: Willie: David – to name but a few but I think they were the one person scripting under different names. The story yesterday evoked some vicious narratives, sadly. Today’s story deserves respect, kindness of compassion and empathy for Sinead. Most priests will be on her side. Today at 3 masses I remembered her and other victims/survivors publicly in prayer. I just arrived home at 3.30pm after 6 baptisms….I commented earlier this morning but I plead for all commenters to be with Sinead in prayer and quiet solidarity. The offending priest will forever be “dead” within because of the ignominy of his criminal abuse. While no priest could ever, ever condone his behaviour or even show sympathy for him, our focus is on Sinead and her future well-being. May she be strengthened to live each day with inner affirmation that she is a worthwhile human being and is an inspiration to others in telling their story.
