Yesterday Noel Treanor, the RC bishop of Down and Connor confirmed that the church trial of JJ Murray will resume.

Murray’s victims are hoping that he will be laicised and will also lose his diocesan residence and pension.

They feel very strongly about this given that Murray used the dementia get out of jail card during his state prosecution.

The girls went to court to get JUSTICE.

They ended up only getting LAW.

And, as we said the other day, the law is often AN ASS.

All of us who have spent years in Down and Connor, in my case, 43 years, know that JJ Murray was always an abuser of females.

I first reported him to Bishop Philbin in 1981- 40 years ago on behalf of an adult female he messed about.

He has spent a lifetime flaunting his celibacy problem.

He was one of a D&C gang of golfers and drinkers.

Philbin, Daly and Walsh failed to stop him in his tracks.

Its only since I met Sinead, one of his child victims, that I knew he also hurt little girls.

Murray should never have been a priest.

He should bever have been retained in the priesthood.

Noel Treanor will give justice to his victims if he laicises him and takes away his church house and pension.

This is what his victims hope for.

Beautiful music by the Maynooth choir. Have a CD of the Choir and it is loved by parishioners when played before masses..I suspect however that the video us supplied to elicit abusive commentary which would be a pity. The music is very beautiful. I think we should pray for Bishop Treanor that he will now act so as to give justice to survivors of this abusing priest. Laicisation would be a beginning. Yet, who will be his minder to ensure he has no access to any child or vulnerable person? And dare I ask, should he be thrown unto the streets?

He wouldn’t be thrown onto the streets. Given his age and apparent health problems he would be given social housing, sheltered housing or residential care, the same as anyone else. There would be probation and social services involvement and he could apply for social security benefits, including housing benefit.

The choir sounded harsh to me, and too loud, as if they were making up for their low numbers by shouting.
When I was in the college choir we had about 60 members, which is perhaps too many.
In those days its membership was sems only. Under pressure from the lay music department it was renamed the college chapel choir and is now open to lay students and staff, and there is now a tiny seminary choir too.

I prefaced my question with the words “dare I ask….” because were I to explicitly say he SHOULD NOT be thrown onto the streets, I’d be crucified and accused as a co-abuser which is commonplace on this blog. I do not believe nor contend that this priest should be thrown unto the streets. Ever. Laicised, yes, but on the streets, absolutely not. My values and morals are not in doubt. You don’t undersrand provocative or rhetorical questions?

An old man? An old monster who cannot be trusted around kids or vulnerable women, don’t you mean?
And anyway, why should parishioners have to pay? He abused kids, the Church should not be paying for his lifestyle.
I can understand giving him some time while he looks for a council house or something similar, but that’s all.
He is no longer a practicing priest, he has disgraced himself in the most horrendous way possible.
There is NO place in our society for those who are unwilling to even address their abusing and the damage it causes.
This priest got “away” with it for 50 years.
Put him up in your spare room if you believe he will desist from interfering with kids.
How do you think the survivors feel that he didn’t go to prison? What’s more, how do you think they will feel, knowing, he is still being financially supported by the Church?
Let down, maybe? Too right! !

Sexual dysfunction, sexual immaturity. sexual predator, child and women abuser, cover up merchants (until there is nowhere to hide and then), abject (yet weirdly insincere apologists ‘we’re so so sorry’) and proven track record for industrial strength child abuse and identified by the culture and the zeitgeist as corrupt and corrupting – welcome to the Roman Catholic priesthood, it’s what we’ve come to expect, we’d expect no less and they never (always disappoint).

As I posted a few days ago about Murray, and + Pat has confirmed, a whole range of people in the diocese of D&C over a number of decades had good cause to suspect and to know that Murray was an abuser. And yet, he was left to go his merry way and to carry on with his abusive and criminal behaviour. No doubt those who did know made moves to ensure that this stuff did not become public knowledge. They most certainly did not go to the police. So, in my book, that screams vicarious responsibility and liability. There must surely be grounds for his victims to sue the diocese for reckless – even criminal – behaviour in a number of cases and over a number of decades. This probably would have to be a civil action, which costs money. Which many ordinary people do not have. So, I wonder, are there any well heeled and generous people out there who would be prepared to back them ? The money would be repaid from any award. If they won. It is a risk. It certainly would put the wind up the diocese. Maybe they would do the right thing and apologise and settle ? Something to think about. They certainly need to be made answerable and accountable for their actions, inaction, coverup, connivance, lying, lack of transparency…..

Yes, I would….if I had the resources. But, I haven’t. Maybe somebody does and would be interested. Why should it be so outlandish to think that D&C could be brought before the civil courts for their behaviour and actions over the last few decades ? Should lack of money and resources on the part of those who would like to see them brought to account mean that they can just get away with it ? Perhaps you want the coverup and the getting away scot free to continue ? Why ? Have you something to hide too that you are afraid might come out ? So many clergy do. That’s why they prefer to status quo.

Yes, I think there’s a lot of chubby chasing that goes on in our seminaries. The living is too good. All those cooked meals three times a day. Gin and wine. Little exercise. But, it’s not a pretty look.

Oh, get a life ! If they are fat, they should be told. And don’t tell me it’s genetic. It has to do with eating and drinking too much and not getting enough exercise. The solution if simple. Julian and Sandy and their Polari – so funny – I doubt they’d get away with it today. There’s bound to be someone offended by it.
And criticising the Maynooth choir for being too loud or shouting is unfair. They aren’t a professional choir. It wasn’t perfect but, given their reduced numbers, I think they did a remarkably good performance. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A lay person in tied accommodation who lost his or her job would be required to leave the accommodation and make alternative arrangements. An 80-year would be at the top of a social housing waiting list. Nearly every sheltered housing scheme has vacancies. There are plenty of residential care homes. He won’t lack somewhere to live.

The idea or notion that a seminarian is told to lose weight as an incentive for ordination is as risible as it is hilarious.
Most clergy are overweight/obese/morbidly obese and healthy living isn’t on any clerics agenda.
Vinny is like Hume he likes to be around pretty people but not too pretty as don’t want to outshine the master.

If Fr Murray is too unwell for a criminal trial, how is he well enough for a canonical trial? Are such trials open to the public, so that justice can be seen to be done?

2:54 I think you will find a canonical ‘trial’ like so much else where the church is concerned, is misnamed and it should not be confused with the weighing of evidence that goes on in a legal trial. Don’t forget the church doesn’t claim to be a democracy and places its own sovereignty above any justice or human rights.
In fact I can tell you the outcome for this one even before it starts. There are two possible outcomes.
The more likely is it will be so long drawn out he will die before it is concluded and a statement by the diocese will say how sorry they are.
The less likely is that it will be concluded with him dismissed from the clerical state.

Re Murray, 40 years of decades delayed justice was quite staggering since it was reported in 1981.
What the hell had happened between 1981 and now? Mind boggles. This was quite unbelievable cos of 40 years of unanswered questions or their non responses??
Where was successive bishops responsibilities at that time? Did they leave it at the back burner or out of sight 🤔
Or it’s their staggering incompetence on their part or PSNI fault for not bring it up to speed? Which one is more to blame – rcc or PSNI??
Hope that she recovers as her recovery
might be a very long process cos of 40 yrs delayed justice, justice denied for 40 years.
Might expect that Murray could pull a stunt just like Ernest Saunders did.
Best possible way to make up for 40 years of delayed justice is to laicise him quick or fast as they can.

When did priests lose their humbleness and become acidic and bitchy but you raise an interesting moral dilemma. Should Murray, the vile Soul-Vampire and enemy of society be crucified for his heinous sins?
A punishment to fit the crime?
Would this provide the child victims with justice?
What other punishment would more fit the seriousness of the crime and simultaneously act as a deterrent?
Would the vengeful God let it slide like the State and Church enablers or would he make sure these harbingers of Hell are eviscerated?
