FINTAN MAKES EURO 384,000 PLUS VAT FROM NEW ASHES STORAGE FACILITY.

If you want your loved one ashes stored in Fintan Monahan’s Ennis cathedral it will set you back Euro 1,600 plus vat per loved one.

When full the project will have earned Fintan & Co Euro 384,000 plus vat.

Not bad money for a wall that previously earned nothing for Fintan.

And I can imagine that Fintan will be eying out some more walls in many churches for similiar use.

When the living are abandoning the church the dead will be saving it financially.

If you were a church goer for 50 years and gave Fintan Euro 10 a week you would have given him Euro 26,000 in total.

Then when you die you give him another Euro 1,600 plus vat.

According to unhappy Ennis cathedral parishioners anyone from anywhere with E 1600 can buy an ash patch.

I wonder if there is a time limit on how long your beloved can occupy a niche? Is there a 100 year clause? And if their is, what will happen to the ashes after that 100 years?

In Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin yiu can now buy “pre used graves”.

Will the ashes be sent to Tuam to be buried in a septic tank?

And will your niche be rented out to a 22 nd century family?

Some churches in other places have built columbariums in the church floor – meaning that you can stash thousands of ash urbs all over the floor area?

And what will happen when many Irish churches and cathedrals become bingo halls, night clubs and pubs?

Will we have night clubs and pubs named: “The Ashes”, ” The Niches”, “The Crem”, ” The Bishops Bones” etc.

Well, there are some cemeteries across the north that charge extortionate rates for Graves. And if not resident in the Parish/area, the price doubles.

Hello Bishop Pat, I have been reading previous blogs of yours. I read previously of a distressed young man who was quizzed about his masterbation at confession. My brother lives in a predominantly non catholic area and as a result goes to confession in my own parish each week. I was on holiday a few weeks back and he went to a different church in Belfast. JM was a nightmare to live with, he wouldn’t even let Darrach put on the heating and when he complained of the cold, JM left him a blanket to wrap around himself. Burial or cremation has to be a personal choice. Personally I’d prefer to be buried when the time comes. What you see on today blog is an example of rcc intentions-money, money, money (ABBA song). Rcc are looking for extra revenue when their church collections(Sunday collection weekly) taken a dive to make up for it.
However I have noticed not so wealthy people or poor people opt for cremation as a cheaper options.
Funeral Bill nowadays notoriously very expensive. My late relative coughed up some 5k in a rural funeral. I saw few urns in some family homes.

6.06: Why am I confused? The New Charities Act of a few years ago requires that all donations given to charities are to be recorded on a system devised for Dioceses. All undertakes, certainly in the Dublin Diocese, signed up to a legal agreement re: fees/offerings which are paid directly to parishes at end of each month. The apportioned amount to priest, sacristan and Church is then forwarded go those specific accounts. That is the legal situation in Dublin Diocese and one which all Dioceses are suppose to adopt. We are subject to Revenue Inspections at any time. Each Diocese has its own system of clergy salary but offerings form part of that salary. However, the department of the Revenue Commissioner has issued the guidelines which must be followed. Our Diocese has followed all such guidelines and the Finance Secretariate frequently ensure that correct procedures are followed. Be cynical all you like. My conscience is clear. You should go to bed or better still, educate yourself on the Charities Act.

Interesting points. The chances of the RCC following the Charities Act are slim. The regulator isn’t going next or near the Bishops. The Catholic Church is a cash business. No way is all cash being accounted for. That I can guarantee you. Auditors run a mile when approached by a Bishop to enquire about being appointed auditor. It is impossible to regulate volunteers dealing with cash in so many locations. Please do not pretend that all priests are following the guidelines. They are not.

A well known PP in west belfast lets families dig the graves of loved ones themselves so they can bury ashes illegally. He does this for a few of £50 and says some prayers. All you see in the cemetery now are families digging up their own graves to put ashes in. Stop this illegal act Pat

Here in the Glasgow Diocese it doesn’t matter to us whether a family choose burial or cremation as the cemeteries and crematoria are owned by the local authority, except for St Peter’s Cemetery.
What a family offer to us as a stipend is very much up to themselves and I have also found them most generous. I never ask for payment except when I have to engage an organist it’s only right they should get a fee.

DG has every right to emquirr what clergy are paid. It’s time there was a single uniform salary scale for RC bishops, parish priests and curates and it should have 100% transparency. As far as I know the (Anglican) Church of Ireland has a uniform system for its rectors and curates. The only unknown entity is how much individual bishops are paid. Someone with more up to date knowledge can correct mw if necessary.

They are almost halfway in breaking even.
138 @1,200= 165,600 unused urn places to date.
Diocese contributons from their own pocket is €384,000
Total urn places of 240 at € 1,200= 288,000
Which leaves a gap of 96,000.
240 urn places might be filled by this year end. Diocese could get it all back by a year and half (288 + 96 (gap)).

Urn fee was 1,600 not 1,20.
My apologies 🙈🙈🙈
So I reworked out here:
Diocese contributons from their own pocket is 384.000
Urn places in total is 240.
Which works out at 240*1,600 = 384,000 which matches diocese total contributions.
So far 102 urn places is taken up.
Thus 102*1,600 = 163,200 paid up.
Which leaves remaining 138 vacant urn places left at a cost of 1,600.
138*1600 =220,800.
384k – 163,200 (paid) = 220,800.(vacant urn places left)
Diocese costs of 384k, almost half way now, recouped of 163,200.
I would say that diocese would be pleased with the take up of 102 places as it provides a cushion of almost half of their contributions paid in couple of months or so. Give or take.
Regarding VAT, I might expect that parishioners would pay VAR on top of 1,600 urn fee. Correct me if I’m wrong there.

I don’t see anything wrong with selling crypts to parishioners who wa t to contribute to very local events that have hurt many people. The legals feeds alone must be astronomical. But victims cannot, not should be bought out.

We’re missing the fact here…. fintan is using that money to pay priests full wage who have taken a year off….. I know of no other job that pays you when you take a year off… he obviously has no intention of returning to the priest hood as he has been seen numerous times out with various girls… hes milking the free money while he gets on with as many women as possible….. isnt it a great world..
