DID PHONSIE FORMALLY INSTALL PURCELL AT MELLERAY AFTER BEING INFORMED OF ABBOT PURCELL’S ROSCREA SEX LIFE?

Phonsie and Purcell during abbatial blessing.
Bishops Monahan, Lee, Phonsie, O’Reilly and Walsh at abbatial blessing.

The Blog has been told that before Phonsie celebrated the installation for Richard Purcell, a highly reliable person spoke to Phonsie and told him about Richard Purcelll’s sexual misconduct at Roscrea.

The Blog has also been told that Phonsie placed the person who gave him this information under an oath of silence telling them to never repeat this information again to another human being.

Pat, are you aware of the video circulating on WhatsApp of a man and women engaged in sexual activity in Longford Cathedral?

If that’s true that after being informed about Purcell, Bishop Cullinane gave the Abbatial Blessing to him. He has no alternative but to resign, I don’t think you’ve any chance of him replying to you. He will be under sedation that you dared to say your brother Bishop.🤣

Funnily enough the timeline of the video ties in with his announcement as Abp of Tuam!

This is part for the course. Dom Cuthbert Brogan’s behaviour was communicated to Crispian Hollis who still ordained him priest.
The only wonder is how anyone ever gets refused for ordination because most bishops seem like the episcopus vagans in one of AN Wilson’s books who went out to get the milk one morning and absent mindedly ordained the milkman.

Holy Scripture firmly opposes vows and oaths. Beyond that, surely they should only have been reached after lengthy and mature consideration and are never unconditional: this works both ways and furthermore Brady and Cullinane had a less worthy cause than those they imposed on. Abbatial and episcopal regulations, morals, and faith, all designed to protect vulnerable individuals addressing themselves to that institution as if it had integrity, were broken. Does Our Lord not expect us to be vulnerable in front of holy things including institutions? Which has betrayed tens of millions (Asian hating) through a man more compromised in the same direction * ? “Communion” is not a sacrament (supposedly the sole raison d’etre of clergy existence) any more which is why it is gall to mention it in the so called “synod” slogan and leaving decent bishops and priests marooned. Are Cullinane and Purcell (who presumably hasn’t gone away yet) displaying eligibility to go on “mission”? This is why we don’t need to “go up” once a year. A baptismal promise which can be renewed off church premises, and helping work by clergy, don’t require the “blessed sacrament”. Powerful pure evil liars like Brady and this other one and Parolin have abolished it.

Well, it would appear that that vow of silence hasn’t worked.
Why did the persons sworn to silence wait until this moment to expose Cullinan?
Where they hoping for a higher place in the hierarchy but snubbed or overlooked? Which makes them morally suspect too.
There is a sense in the RC church, at the minute, that suitable men are not coming forward for ministry so they will ordain anyone, however unsuitable ( excluding women of course )

But that does NOT excuse Phonsie installing Purcell AFTER a sincere and reliable source told Phonsie of Purcell’s lifestyle.

In performing the installation moral crusader Phonsie approved a Boilerhouse lifestyle.

Yes, Pat. I’m a veteran of the attempts to get something done about the now abbot of Farnborough, and was involved in the attempts to stop his rise. My own view is that multiple opportunities to prevent these situations are usually missed, and by multiple people.
There is a tendency to pick certain actors as innocent victims but they will always have had a part in the problem. For example there is a tendency to feel sorry for the prior before Brogan. But this is nonsense because he was Brogan’s major superior and should have dealt with him or resigned if he wasn’t up to the job.
Similarly in Purcell’s case all of the actors have a responsibility and the monks are not holy, innocent, unworldly victims. And, yes, the Fonz could have acted and the abbot general didn’t have to confirm his election as abbot.

It is very embarrassing +Pat. The great bishop who walked the Pilgrimage of Reconciliation is there then to the left of the photo at the abbatial blessing.
The departed abbot was being invited all over the country in recent months for various ordinations. He was being given the full respect of his office that he did not deserve. I completely disagreed with it. I declined the opportunity to join the departed abbot for tea. I said many times in recent months, there was no way that the abbot could seek re-election nor could the brethren seek to re-elect him.
The two resignations were long overdue.

Yes he was – I’m not sure of the correct liturgical word but would have been installed as abbot, just like an existing bishop going to another diocese, but not had the actual abbatial blessing.

Cullinane is a classic case of a cleric who is so confident of himself and his authority that he does not brook any opposition or even consider other points of view. Instant wisdom and autocratic action is his modus operandi. Well, he has already and will continue to walk himself in to a hole, which will most certainly swallow him up. He will not be around too much longer. He will disappear from sight and head off to some quiet life of prayer and penance. He won’t like it much. But he won’t be given much option. I’m certain a plan is being formed for him at higher levels at this moment.

What is this nonsense about ? https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/14749/peers-debate-priests-having-access-to-crime-scenes There are a number of things not right here. First the guy was sadly dead, and there is nothing as dead as being dead. The Sacrament of the Sick is for the sick and frail, not for the dead. The appropriate thing in this case is to say the Prayers for the Dead / Dying. Then there is the question of the priest complaining that he wasn’t given privileged access to the deceased and to the crime scene. Who does he think he is ? Nobody else, except those who had a relevant role, had access to the scene. And the priest’s role was not relevant to what was going on that day in that place. The family would not have been given access to the scene until it was cleared. But this priest and his supporters are squealing about not being allowed access. It smacks of that thing we see so often with clergy, their being so special. outside the norm, not liable to any control or instruction, exceptional . …blah, blah, blah. What should have happened is that the priest should have gone to the nearest point he was allowed to be at, and quietly prayed the Prayers for the Dead / Dying, and left it at that, rather than making a big scene, which will have had as much to do about him and his own much vaunted opinion of himself and his being a priest. Mind you, he’s probably happy because his acolytes have managed to get this episode and him mentioned in the House of Lords ! I guess there’s nothing like publicity to feed an ego.

Johnson was famous for his acerbic wit, as well as for usually thinking he was always right … But he had made a mistake in the dictionary. He had defined the word pastern (part of a horse’s leg near the hoof) as the knee of a horse, which was wrong.
When a woman asked him why he had done this, his answer was: ‘Ignorance, madam, pure ignorance.’
I hope 12:13’s frequent attempts at sounding like Dr Johnson are accompanied by such frank admissions of ignorance.

Like

I’m not begrudging, nor am I lapsed, nor am I disaffected, nor am I vindictive, nor am I an atheist……..wrong on all counts ! I just think clergy crying that they have not been given what they think is their rightful place and respect is something that is so often a result of clerical arrogance and entitlement. So, let’s call it out when we see it. And, in this case, it was a priest deciding that he and what he believed he had to offer took precedence over everything else. But, he was wrong. He needed to wind in his neck, go about his business unassumingly and quietly, and stop drawing attention to himself – which probably was the original motivation and is certainly the reason he is bleating about it now. I’m just saying it as it is. There were quieter, less obtrusive, more respectful ways of performing his ministry, if he just bothered to think about it, rather than thinking about himself and how indispensable and important he is. It’s a clerical trait amongst the RC clergy. Look at Purcell, found out and brought low, but everybody is saying that he will be working hard to get himself back in to some position, because he has a grand notion of himself, rather than saying his prayers, saying sorry, and attending to his abusive and scandalous behaviour. Another example of the entitled clergy.

‘set himself us as a moral crusader on women’s bodies, yoga, schools etc’
Pat I’m sure you will agree that the church’s moral crusades have always been selective – for example while telling women they can’t have abortions the bishops have covered up child rape by priests. This is of course because the underlying principle is actually that the hierarchy are about a pleasant life for themselves while giving lip service to being religious leaders so the faithful will continue to pay up. The explanation could merely be that Phonsie is giving one rule for yoga while an Abbot can please himself.
You will recall the joke that said that if altar boys could get pregnant, the church would be fine with contraception.

In light of the dislike of yoga by Bishop Cullinan any kind of downward dog — particularly if it occurred at Mount Melleray Abbey would be wholly unacceptable. It might be a form of grave sin – a sin comparable to the ones in the past that were reserved to the bishop. But the indifference of Bishop Cullinan to Purcell’s barebacking is morally acceptable. #hypocrisyinwaterfordandlismore

Does this article from Wikioedia remind you of anythin?
Main article: Sexual abuse scandal of Marcial Maciel
In 1976, Juan Vaca, a former student of Maciel, who states that Maciel molesting him from the age of 12 to 24, wrote a 12-page single-spaced letter to Maciel attacking him for his abuse and the “aberrant and sacrilegious abuse” of 20 other “good and gifted young boys.” Vaca’s letter was included in a dossier sent by Bishop John Raymond McGann to the Vatican suggesting that it investigate the accusation. “The letter was acknowledged; nothing happened.” In 1978, when John Paul II became pope, the bishop and Vaca wrote again. “But again, nothing happened.”[8]

In 1989 Juan Vaca, tried again, sending “a long, detailed letter” to John Paul “in a dossier … via Vatican diplomatic pouch, again including his original statement naming Maciel’s victims”. He also asked for release from his vows of ordination arguing “that because of the abuse, he never should have been ordained”. Several years later he was sent a document releasing him, “but on the Maciel charges—again, nothing”.[8]

On February 23, 1997, a report in The Hartford Courant “exposed a history of pedophilia” by Maciel involving nine victims who came forward to go on the record.[8] The victims alleged that they had been abused as youths and young men by Maciel while studying under him in Spain and Rome in the 1940s and 1950s. The group, which included respectable academics and former priests, lodged formal charges at the Vatican in 1998. They were told the following year that the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, then headed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI), was not moving forward with a direct prosecution. Whether Cardinal Ratzinger made this decision on his own or on orders by Pope John Paul II is not publicly known.[15]

The Vatican refused to comment, while Maciel claimed innocence but refused to be interviewed.[8] The Legion set up a website accusing the nine of fomenting a “conspiracy” against Maciel. Roman Catholic luminaries in the country the allegations were made came to the defense of Maciel and the Legion: William Donohue of the Catholic League called the men’s claims “balderdash”; Father Richard John Neuhaus of First Things magazine stated that the charges were false with “a moral certainty”; John Paul II biographer and NBC Vatican analyst George Weigel; Bill Bennett, a former Reagan Education secretary; Mary Ann Glendon, a Harvard Law professor. The allegations were ignored by John Paul II who continued his praise of Maciel.

Did Monahan and O’Reilly know as Roscrea is in the Killaloe Diocese. I suspect the Purcell problem was widely known within the RCC. Like all ways they deal with problems it was ignored. The desire not to embarrass or annoy a fellow cleric took precedence over doing the correct thing. The RCC are slow learners. Any ability they had in the last 20 years of salvation has been abandoned. Unable to change for the better they have chosen to waste away on hollow and shallow ground. The propensity of clerics to ignore reality on the grounds it is for the common good is not feasible. This is how child abuse in the RCC continued and continued. I have been in the Church, I took a stand and left. Please save me from the sanctimonious.

Cistercians belong to an enclosed order. How, then, did Purcell manage to travel from the monastery to the Boilerhouse and other places so frequently. His absence must have come to notice and he was surely unable to account for himself truthfully. Surely, the absence of any monk from an enclosed order is questioned, no matter the reason for absence?

Like

Abbots and other monks, now regularly travel these days.

Monks go to bed at 8.30 pm and get up at 3. 30 am. The Boilerhouse is a 2.30 hour drive from the monastery.

Like

6:12 Once you are inside an enclosed order you find that things are not quite what they seem. Some monks are models of observance in their attendance at choir etc, but some allow themselves to do what they like. This includes sexually.
There is a fake spirituality which we see played out on this blog, actually, that you should just get on with your own seeking of God and not challenge the non observant monks. This is of course nonsense. In fact they wouldn’t be bothered if challenged and are even less responsible to the community if abbot.
You will be wondering that a community could elect an abbot who wasn’t observant, and that is of course a whole can of worms. I have commented here several times that a large part of the problem will be the community who let him get to ordination and elected him abbot.
And in case anyone is going to claim they didn’t know – far more than in a seminary you are in each other’s pockets and know a scary amount about each other.

Like

“You will be wondering that a community could elect an abbot who wasn’t observant…”
As abbot of Roscrea, he is supposed to have participated in the efforts to address the precipitous decline of the Cistercian monasteries in Ireland. These circumstances are supposed to have contributed to his election as abbot by the monks of Mount Melleray. Constitutionally a monastery cannot elect the abbot of another monastery as abbot unless he is the abbot of a daughter-house.

Society nowadays gives the environment for non criminal hypocrisy to go under the radar. Experts in minimising scandal will thrive in that environment.

No, Seamus. The CHURCH created the environment for criminal offences to be ignored. You’re minimising and deflecting blame again.
The church as a matter of policy told the bishops to cover up crime and they all did to a man, and this was international.
