AMY MARTIN SAYS HE HAS BEEN IN LOVE !

I cringe when people like Amy Martin say that they have been in love and have sacrificed a wife and children to serve God.

I have no proof one way or the other but I believe that both Martin and the others who go on like that are “not the marrying type”

In other words, in my opinion, they are gay.

I’m not claiming that any of them have acted out their gayness. That I simply don’t know – and its not the Blog’s business – unless they have behaved in a hypocritical way.

I would be very surprised if Amy Martin had ever acted out because he strikes me as a deeply repressed man – and as a man who gets his pleasures by being full of himself and having power over others.

There are rumours from Ara Coeli that he has temper tantrums?

His predecessor, Tomas O’Fiaich whose sexuality I haven’t a clue about, was, I believe, very integrated. He had no airs or graces, rode a bike around Armagh ( a man’s bike), and cycled to the GAA club in Armagh for a pint on a Sunday after Mass.

On the two occasions I visited him in Armagh he was very gracious, generous with tea and sandwiches and treated me to a home poured Irish whiskey.

He also spent an afternoon on the booze with my Dad, Jim, in Lourdes.

LOURDES

But I do think that Tomas, had things been different, would have made a good husband and father.

No I don’t believe that Amy was ever really in love with anyone apart from himself.

And I don’t think that the virginity of the girls in Derry’s Bogside was ever under any threat from Amy as they grew up together.

This ‘Ive given up a wife and children’ thing isn’t really so creepy because of the sexual orientation – it’s the simple fact that it’s a man making out that he’s given it all up for something greater. And there’s no point telling me they don’t see it as greater – the mere fact they become clergy and say all this shit about having been in love, proves they think it’s greater. It also proves they’re ultimately not capable of relating to another person properly. If they were actually in love they would all be married and we wouldn’t hear about it.
Even priests who keep on with priesthood and a covert relationship on the side will always put their priesthood first and are merely playing around on the side.
This is the real reason the church needs to abandon celibacy – it attracts men who can’t relate to other people. Oh, and incidentally the ones who want a cover for sexual activity which is either illegal or unwelcome to the priests themselves.

They are very arrogant to believe they would ever have stood a chance of even attracting a woman! However with the Jeremy Kyle generation these women throw themselves at any man with a pulse

Bishop Pat, I am truly intrigued by this article. With the mention of Armagh, one begins to shudder. I am however very pleased to see a long overdue spotlight being shone on this. There is plenty to discuss, talk about and people within this diocese should examine their pastors carefully. I am quite comfortable in suggesting that revelations about several individuals lie ahead from you.

Pat, I can’t belueve you’d single out a particular comnent by Archbishop Martin and personalise it in a most uncharitable, judgmental way. Whatever about your disagreements with the Archbishop, do you not think this ridiculing and mockery is unfair? I remember in my youth being very much in love with a woman. I chose not to be married and opted for priesthood after a few years of teaching. We can be very u kind in misinterpreting other people’s wirds and all too quick to attribute our own bias and prejudice against ithers. I really believe that a true gospel charity would not prompt such as you have printed. Can you recall your own personal struggles with relationships and sexuality? They were not easy times for you. I’d have expected a greater kindness from you. The subject for your blog will do precisely what you intend and I think this is very unfortunate.

Dear Bishop Pat,
It is good to see today’s focus on Northern Ireland. I hope 2022 will bring much more of this. Indeed from what I have heard from several sources, there is a very big problem indeed which must be addressed.
It is believed that in a particular diocese, there is a laissez-faire culture. Gladly, not everyone in that diocese toes the official line. Thank the Lord for His kindness. And thankfully assertions are not flimsy.
Frankly it is surprising in this diocese to see the lives of excess and immorality lived by those wrongly lauded on a par with Christ Himself. But wasn’t that always the problem with us Irish? It is deeply concerning to be recently made aware of goings-on involving clergy and it is ultimately a matter of diocesan concern. Or Pat, is this worthwhile at all? Perhaps you might deal with it more appropriately? As we ‘Catholics’ know the drill by now 😂
We hear much about forums which focus on our future as a Catholic Church community. But who are the ‘role models’ in our communities, both within Church and other influential settings, leading this religious growth? What are their morals like?
Before we look forward, we must first address the present and indeed the past.
Your blog today will open a can of worms, I am quite sure of that. It must be done. The sad part of this is that often the honorable and decent priests who give their all, mirroring the work of Christ, are tarnished too. I am quite sure this is not your intention, and hope it does not occur.
Bishop Pat, I implore you to persevere with this and I pray for God’s blessing upon you as you, with the aid of every good upstanding Catholic’s support, throw a spotlight upon a very concerning spectre which for a number of years now, has developed into a festering wound in Northern Ireland. I am in no doubt you are aware of this particular spectre already.
God Bless +

Bishop Pat,
According to your fairly spot-on definition of “not the marrying type” we can deduce that this part of the North is home to a very interesting clerical group. Are these individuals active in their alternative lifestyle? The definite conclusion is: without doubt.
When, where, and perhaps even why does this occur and not be addressed? Is it because it is carried out super secretly? Or, is it because it is accepted? What is the moral price paid by those who should know better?
Thankfully I do understand this will all come to light. Some of the poor and naive faithful bow and worship false idols as far as this is concerned. As for some of our all-singing all-dancing priests … where are they? And more interestingly, why….? Just what exactly is going on here?

It’s been a trope for the last half-century, male priests and religious proclaiming how much they have given up by vowing to celibacy. The unspoken assumption is, of course, that they would have been wonderful husbands and fathers if they hadn’t. Oh, yeah? That kind of talk is born of pride; take a close look at any cleric who says such a thing.

Yes, I see tumbleweed blowing there. Can he not even get the admin staff and his priests to like his tweets? +Eamon Martin strikes me as a boring company man. Some bishops opt not to have coat of arms, but I think selecting the dropper in MS Paint and filling the image with beige would be the most appropriate image, not some clutching at a false humility.
Perhaps +Pat knows some things that might make him a bit more interesting. It’s probably not a secret palace, floozie and emptying the collection plate into his pockets, but likely a three monkeys response to the usual man on man stuff. In one of Cardinal Burke’s retreat talks he spoke on the topic of priestly celibacy. He stressed that In renouncing marriage and a family for the sake of the Kingdom, priests imitate Christ, the High Priest and Victim, who Himself was celibate, and free themselves to be able to serve God, and Christ’s flock, with a single andundivided heart. But what exactly do the vast majority of gay priests renounce? Marriage and a family was never an option for them.

Not so. The reception of any articulation of dogma and doctrine by the People of God is an intrinsic element in evaluating the veracity and status of that teaching.

In relation to the reception of IVF by Catholics it’s clear it has been and is being rejected.

If Ireland is anything to go by, same-sex marriage has been endorsed by a majority of Catholics.

Along with scripture, tradition, magisterium as sources of divine revelation we often forget to include human reason as the necessary fourth source.

Like

I wouldnt be so rejecting of IVF – god gifted us this skill to support struggling would-be parents. The preference of adoption over IVF in Catholic teaching just reflects the slow movement of the institution. We must objectively recall that adoption had two impacts on for the church,

1. Reduced the costs of running industrial schools
2. Was merely a source of “income”, although this might be better worded by more educated people who can present it as something other than baby-selling.

Catholic health institutions are quick to accept areas of medicine that are profitable making but were not ready to profit from IVF when it emerged. Hence the resistance.

Respectfully, today you are showing Catholic indoctrination – which is not characteristic of you.
Here is an alternative option. Two married lesbiens asked The Holy Goat to donate sperm so they could conceive. I declined for obvious legal and canonical difficulties.
These ladies faced options of IVF, agreed “unfaithfulness” or adoption. I did point out that the IVF aspect was costing €15,000 without guarantee. It is entirely possible for 4 homosexuals, two gay men and two gay women to form agreement around procreation.
The bigger issue ought to be the fact that this Republic will fund abortion but not IVF

Like

THG 3:41,
It might appear that I am “showing Catholic indoctrination” but it is not the case. It is understandable that you might think so.
Two lesbians naturally cannot come together and conceive. That’s part and parcel of homosexual relationships. They are not a heterosexual couple and they should fully embrace their homosexuality. Adoption is a wonderful contribution that they can make for themselves and for society.
Many couples who should be able to conceive naturally, sadly cannot. Are there societal factors involved that are an impact? Couples who should be able to conceive naturally but have not should have access to fair medical treatment and financial assistance.
It is perverse that abortion is funded. Adoption should be more of an acceptable option and solution in society.

Let’s be honest about priests who say the sacrificed marriage, wife and children.
They did not. They went to seminary and as part of the formative struggle to accept celibacy this was the indoctrination. It helps heterosexual who don’t think too much. It provides a cloak for homosexuals.
In truth the homosexuals were not ready to face themselves and live openly in the world.
Also in truth the heterosexual were not mature enough to ask the woman they “loved” out on a date, they never got to know the lady, they never took the risk of breaking up, and they never took the risk of a relationship working. The idea is far different to the reality.
What is often ‘sacrificed’ was not a wife and children, but the opportuunity for the woman to say
“no thank you” in the first instance, or
“sorry mate, but this isn’t working out” or
“You need to learn to compromise because I ain’t your mom”, or
The compromises as two parents balance careers, child care, elder care for parents, increased needs if a child has a disability, the risk that a kid will be an addict, criminal or just an assh0le.
*
Let’s just face it – celibacy is comfortable once the sex drive is maintained. No body really challenges us with pillow talk or stern wife direction. There’s no gambles of whom will come from the womb, and will be actually be good at parenting – which may look easy but is clearly tricky.

She says the parish all know about his Daisy Chain membership and that people don’t have much respect for him.

Priests are allowed to have other interests in life we should encourage each other to explore hobbies that make us happy In life, if Tim wants to dress up and sing elvis then so be it, I’m sure he is very adept at it

Not all men who choose not to marry are gay. I have never married and I never had what you call a serious girlfriend even if I had many female friends and I am not gay. Who is to say that Archbishop Martin is not the same. Maybe his calling to serve as a Priest and in later years as a Bishop and Archbishop is a genuine call.

3.32::A very kind comment amidst the crap spoken and poured out by stupud, girlie, queenie types. A man says he has been in love and because he happens to be Archbishop Martin, Pat allows a complete mockery and sneering of him. I accept the Archbishop’s bona fide on this without the need to think otherwise. There is something horribly nasty when a few disgruntled lazy clerics and a band of non clerical crapheads express their views with such jeering and mockery of the Archbishop. It is unnecessary and very un Christ-like. It’s the behaviour of the school yard bully.

Feck off and leave my Timmy alone 11:08 am
Once again I see a snipe at my poor wee Timmy, and he after keeping his head down for months waitin for the call to see the black man in Dublin. Feck off and leave him alone. A small wee diocese in the west would suit him well, he can wear all those lovely clothes he bought in Rome. Sure he wouldn’t call the queen his aunt.
He’s had the third Laser surgery now and the brown is almost gone from his nose, my poor wee lad, and him the sainted priest he is.

@4.29 What is any reasonable person supposed to take from your inane comment? You seem to be trying to be witty but failing miserably. The helpful advice is this: stop making comments or wait until you have something sensible to say. You were very foolish to try to be amusing. The gift of humour is not within your grasp.

Not the marrying type? He could still be waiting for the right girl to come along, Bp Pat. You can be quite sarcastic at times.

Fr O’Neill is not happy? Neither are the two priests he got rid of before the present incumbent curate came. It was widel known among the vicariate that McAleese could stand up for himself. I wonder if O’Neill will have the cojones to tell Treanor what he promised to say should Treanor try to move him and that was F@@k off. Big lad O’Neill portrays himself to be when he is just a wimp

Wasn’t able to attend Latin Mass on Christmas day. So I went to whitefriar Church instead. I think that I haven’t been to that church for two decades at least. Its bit more brighter than it was grey inside some 20 years ago. It seems to me that there were some renovations done cos it looked bit modern now from my memory re 1st visit.

I noticed its a religious order named carmelite. I don’t see them much around in Ireland except for whitefriar Church.

Pat is fine just where he is. The papacy is an illusion…..most bishops believe in two things; themselves and the office ( pope) that appointed them. It is the problem.

A well placed source has told a couple of us priests (not from Glasgow) that John Keenan will not translate to Glasgow. He wouldn’t say who will be appointed but that the new man was told on Friday last but sworn to secrecy. It will be announced in the 3rd week of January.
