PHONSIE “THE SILENT”.

The man who likes to pontificate on everything from yoga to cancer prevention vaccines for girls has maintained A SUSPICIOUS SILENCE on Richard Purcell since his shock resignation as abbot 35 days ago !!!

From the beginning of the Purcell scandal Phonsie was written to personally and copied letters and emails to others.

He took no notice of serious concerns.

In fact he went out of his to publish his friendship with Purcell by being photographed with him, concelebrating with him at Mount Melleray and inviting him to be a  concelebrant at important diocesan occasions.

All the time that Dick Purcell was giving us all the TWO FINGER SALUTE Phonsie was giving us the same salute.

As the bishop of the Diocese Phonsie was bound to have had discussions with Purcell himself, the abbot general and other concerned parties.

As bishop Phonsie has the solemn duty to protect the Faith in his territory and the solemn duty to see that the Catholic Faithful are not scandalised or have their faith undermined by other persons.

He has NOT performed that duty.

Of course the monastery is under obedience to the abbot general essentially.

But the bishop has the role of protecting the faith in the territory where the monastery is situated.

Phonsie has not spoken about this great scandal in spite of his wide mouthed pronunciations on everything else.

Why has Phonsie not spoken?

Was it because the complaints were started on this blog and Phonsie does not want us to get any credit?

Did he not believe the allegations?

Does he believe them now after two resignations?

Was Phonsie cynically protecting his friend Dick?

Is Phonsie compromised in some way?

Does Richard Purcell have something on Phonsie?

These are all very relevant questions at this juncture.

And if Phonsie does not clear these questions up he is dead in the water as a bishop and moral voice and guide.

In fact he has become Ireland’s Number 1 episcopal hypocrite.

Given his long silences, series of his non responses to date, it indicates that’s hes a company man 💯%. That shouldnt be surprising at all cos he’s a member of opus dei if I’m open to correction. I avoid opus dei at all costs, based my experience with them in dublin(St Stephen Green), long ago.
*
There is asymmetry here cos he knows more than we do. But we shouldn’t be giving him money nor any adulation of any kind.
*
Payback is our non responses to him via no money shouldn’t be given or donated , don’t give him any publicity or oxygen re news nor give him cos of his tendency to backfire re hiv vaccines et al.
*
Attention seeker fairly allright, there. It would take a far bigger scandal to unseat him.

DeafGuy, I don’t know or care whoever he is. This blogs continuing use of feminising “in-house” nicknames is a mark of the infantile mindset of the RC clergy which regrettably +Pat himself indulges in. He once excused it as being a common clerical practice. I just wish he would aspire to and ensure higher standards on this blog.

I get both MMM’s point but also see this blog as exposing clerical culture, which is perhaps best shown up by the behaviour on here. The whole use of nicknames by clergy shows an incredible immaturity and a maturity around school age.
To call someone by a nickname they don’t want is incredibly disrespectful, to give them a name that isn’t theirs is a misuse of power. In many work places this is misconduct. Of all people Christians would get this but then we’re not talking about Christians.
I genuinely think the almost unmoderated content on this blog is very valuable because it is a reliable indicator of the culture of the church. And it ain’t big or clever.

Referring to Opus dei, I met an opus dei priest in St Stephen Green back sometime around from 2008 to 2010 as far as I recollect. He spooked me off big time as I didn’t know why. Normally I don’t get that gut reaction unless for a good reason.
*
Then I met Fr fortune at a wedding way back as he spooked me off there. Then I asked a local at the wedding re him as he gave me a horrific feedback. Then I knew why I was spooked. Even some locals knew it but they couldn’t prevent that priest officiating a wedding.
Then looking back at that opus dei priest, I asked my ex friend who is gay re him. He felt the same reaction as myself re spooked. He was, still a fanatic for all things such as TLM. He was abused way worse than myself. We never went back there again ever.
To me, he was charming, machellivan, pushy type, bully, eyes with a 🤑🤑 signs. Also I saw hallmarks of a cult there. Something was off re our conversation with him. We came from an abused background as we saw him through.
***
Hence gut reaction which I didn’t understand at that time. It enabled us to steer away from him even through he was a priest.
Then I saw a movie ‘ the da vinci code as opus dei was mentioned there with a monk who wipped himself. Great acting by that monk. Then I realised it fits re opus dei MO.

1.34: I agree with you. I have never subscribed to name calling of any kind which demeans and humiliates others, however trenchantly I disagree with them. In humour and in private we might poke some fun but to continually mock people and assign feminine names to men is very immature and a bullying tactic. It’s not just clerics but non clerics too. I think arguments are diminished when our only strength is name calling and the belittling of others. The people who practice name calling are cowards because we can be quite certain that they would not publicly say to a person’s face what they express here. In schools or places of work such behaviour constitutes bullying and harrassment. The same words are apt for much of this blog’s commentary. This blog can survive without this kind of mug behaviour. Pat doesn’t need such contributors.

Like

As does 1:34, you too @ 2:25 very appropriately express what I think, and certainly hope, that sensible mature contributors would subscribe to.
Those who attempt to excuse this supposedly common clerical practice, or enable its continuation, thereby demonstrate immaturity and other unattractive traits peculiar to the clerical fraternity.
It neither garners respect nor credence to their other utterances.
I stand by this opinion regardless of naysayers.

Speaking of owning the place as you speak, it’s the mindset of rcc as you have given it away there. When I visited few monasteries in the past as I don’t normally think of owning the place.
*
Given the fact that monasteries are a huge places which will require lots of money to run it.
*
Same can be said for other people who had visited monasteries as they don’t think of owning it except for an abbot or AG. I don’t think MMM visited any monasteries given his beliefs. Hence I would defend him especially on feminised names regardless of his beliefs.

P.S. There is a Lenten variant. The 28 chapters of the Gospel of Matthew and the 16 chapters of the Gospel of Mark can be read from Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday. 44 chapters for 44 days, when people journey to the Triduum Paschale in a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

I don’t know Cullinane, never seen him in the flesh or heard him. However, I sense from this blog that he is a thick, arrogant, bolshy man, typical of the clerics who come out of that school of priestly ontological difference, elevated status, no accountability, able to do and say what he wants and not to be contradicted. We have been ruled by clerics like this for too long, and seldom are they brought to account. Until now. One good thing that + Pat’s blog does is to put these clerics on notice – no longer will be they able to avoid scrutiny and accountability. Phonsie may be staying quiet at the moment, but there are things coming at him down the line, and he will be made in due course to give an account of what he has done, what he knows, and who he is. I doubt if it will be a pretty picture. It is only a matter of time.

Burying your head in the sand and ignoring the calls for justice and truth will not allow the OCSO their freedom. The lack of integrity within the leadership of the Cistercians is shocking. The RC church is a mafia and the bishops adhere to the code of “omertà”. It is a junket. Bishops no longer have any moral authority. It’s about protecting the business at all costs. To bishops will respond to the scandals by doing what they always do : move priests about and wring their hands like pontius Pilate . It’s not about the teachings of Jesus Christ. It’s a business, a money making exercise. I didn’t see any priests or bishops out helping feed the homeless on Christmas Day. They were too busy quaffing their chateau Neuf de pape. They are an affront to Christ

12.11: Incidentally, were you out feeding the homeless? Those who assume to make judgments of others are key board warriors and nothing more. Our parish arranged for parishioners to donate meals for the elderly, housbound, needy families and the lonely. We got so much that we gave 2/3/4 meals to some households. All organised by the local priest and religious sisters. The real challenge of the Eucharist is to become the bread of life for one another. Our parish community exemplified this in a most kind, loving and generous way. Sometimes great charity is carried out very quietly. What did you do?

My understanding is that a man appears to have been accused of breaching his chastity with other consenting adult men. In the non-institutional world this amounts to consenting sex, not scandal, abuse, corruption or crime. In truth the situation is what people will make it to be. +Pat clearly takes it more seriously than Church authorities.
*
+Pat clearly takes it more seriously than Church authorities – and that is one lesson today.
*
The second lesson today is that few people actually care who takes it seriously and who does not. People will not think upon a monk in Waterford, let alone his sex life. Visitors will look with pity when they see him, but avoid him in disgust for his betrayal of his life commitment, not for him having gay sex. They will pity him because of his sexual immaturity and for not having seized the opportunities pre-monastic life – as many a monk has done. The truth about many older monks is that they are hardened by having lived life to the full before entering the monastery, often at an age when dioceses would not look at them. This is part of why they are wise.

I was commenting in general terms in relation to covering up of abuse corruption and scandalous behaviour of clerics in the Rcc. Are you suggesting covering up abuse corruption or scandalous behaviour of clerics did not include covering up criminal activity? You don’t clock-out, and indeed there are clerics who operate under this unfortunate and modern mantra. Of course the problem in 2021/22 is they get away with anything, because brown-nosers will always back the problem-makers up in the hope of a pat on the back or a cheap blessing (for a few GBP).
