IS RORY SHEEHAN, DOWN AND CONNOR, LEAVING PRIESTHOOD FOR BOYFRIEND?

Clergy and laity in Down and Connor have told the Blog that Fr Rory Sheehan has been telling people that he is leaving the priesthood and moving to England with his current boyfriend.

Apparently at a recent wedding he said: “This is my last wedding”.

At another time he has been quoted as saying “My time is up”.

NOEL TREANOR in Down and Connor is facing a massive priest shortage.

Two other PPs in their 60s are leaving this year on health grounds.

NEWS FROM A GROUP OF SCOTTISH PRIESTS

“Bishop Pat,

All we have said to you about any cleric in Scotland is FACT and public knowledge.

This is true in regards to Mgr Hugh Bradley, Mgr Paul Murray, Canon Anthony Gallagher, Deacon Christopher Morris etal”.

For those in any doubt we will this week reaffirm this knowledge of their behaviors with another statement.

We have emailed the Nuncio but no reply as you’d expect.

We will this week make further contact with both a radio and newspaper journalist whom we have spoken to before though they have both said that running stories on ‘gay’ priests is not very popular.

PAT SAYS

With all the changes in the law and the modern tolerance of sexual orientation stories of gay people are non stories for many newspapers.

Also these priests and seminarians have broken no law or committed any crime as the law sees such activity as being consenting adults.

Rather, these are matters affecting Catholic morality and discipline.

A sexually active priests is regarded as the Church as breaching his promise of celibacy or his vow if chastity.

The issue is not criminal

Within the Church it is a moral and disciplinary matter.

As the RCC sees homosexuality as a “disorder” sexually active gay priests are “disordered”.

Are “disordered” people suitable for priesthood

Does the gossip from a group of Catholic priests in Scotland if indeed they are, not remind you of a well known gossip, detractor and culumnist who frequently haunts this blog with her lies. Be careful you don’t commit the sin of rash judgement remember it’s only gossip.

Pat, have you heard about the purchase of St Bedes College in Manchester by Opus Dei. What are their plans there.

The secular press and the world see the RC priesthood as a gay profession. They are no more likely to publish a story on a gay priest, as they would a gay hairdresser or air steward. It’s only the gullible who believe their priests are celibate.

Interesting points made, Bishop Pat. I am well aware of several younger clergy in Northern Ireland in neighbouring dioceses to D&C living similar lifestyles, and receiving pampered treatment.
It would make one question why these younger, ‘popular’ clerics can essentially live as they like and enjoy the many lucrative privileges of the job. Is the Church that bad for priests, or is it a case of damage limitation?
Either way, if I was an individual who was gay, and a more devoted Catholic – it is very fair to say that the life of a RC priest, especially from what I see, is very appealing indeed.
Palaces… pardon me: Grand Design Parochial Houses, education, car allowance, salary, live as you like (unofficially of course!!)? Is it any wonder we have some of the individuals we do celebrating Mass (when they’re not too busy ‘socialising’, that is)?
Oh where is the accountability?

Rory Sheehan is a decent guy and if this is true then fair play to him. At least he has the balls to do what his heart tells him and he will no longer be living a hypocritical life. No doubt the phone lines, between his fellow D&C priests some of whom are also actively living a lie, will be red hot. If only they too could be honest wouldn’t it be a better world ? Being gay isn’t a crime. The RCC, although many are actively gay, still see it as a hindrance which could affect its money making machine. I’ll be surprised if Bishop Bling gets wee Eddie to put anything on the D&C website.

If this Sheehan is as you say a ‘decent guy’ he would not be living that life which is disgusting and hypocritical. It would be a better world if these priests lived as they should and stop bringing scandal to themselves and The Sacred Priesthood.

1 . If they are space invading or agressive or foisting intense sentimentality or strange manoeuvring or unsuitable talk on people, regardless of where their “bits” are, or unbalanced loyalties to any faction or entity, then personages are unsuitable for any ministry, right the way from deacon right up to metropolitans, archbishops, and cardinals, like the ones in our picture yesterday. We all need to say a definitive “Nightie Night” to tolerating any of it in any denomination.
2 . It ought to be accepted any person having served as clergy can leave the role in good odour for an indefinite period.
3 . If only JP II hadn’t hyper hyped “communion” and ordination, training could be made more balanced and focussed.
4 . The roles of VD and most seminary positions should be abolished and bishops and parish priests should do some of the teaching supported by all sorts of specialists on and off site.
5 . We have got to put an end to pressuring young ( ish ) men on the grounds that:
– it’s nice for their mother seeing as they have whatever ethnic in the heritage
– Catholic is so aesthetic
– they’ll never convert if they don’t
– it will do them no end of good to join an armada
– they too can defeat the Bolsheviks and appreciate sex more deeply
– confectioning by confectors is so good for the rest of us (whereas some of our mothers taught us not to accept smarties from strange men)
– God wants them to pass on to us the brownie points He’s awarding us

Like

6 . The office should have been rolled out to all parishioners including non-communicating ones, including variations like the Little Office or a version without the “antiphons” which one never gets right, or a version in more volumes which prints them in the right places. This should have been made equal to rosaries with the option that people who don’t do rosaries (as I didn’t and don’t) could do office anyway. Christians are called to pray and “Mass” is not the only prayer and “communion” not its height (for those who “go up”). I actually had a Little Office for a little while (while middle aged) and threw it out because the Church is so confused about offices altogether.
7 . Most trainees should be deacons for most of their service, and those at “priest” level should be allowed subsequent deacon spells. At the moment the Holy Mother RCC is a greasy pole where the only way is up. We don’t even bother to gaze, more grateful we’re not in it than pitying.
8 . Bishops should be more up front about everybody else’s incardination and faculties at all times. There ought to be regulations about it which bishops have got to stick to.
9 . The Vatican City State has got to be made to stop playing off the orders against the bishops.
10 . When giving interviews, if single, clergy should just say they happen to be single and that they reject the Holy Mother Catholic Roman Church’s neurotic obsessions, and at the same time take their continence (appropriate to their station) seriously. (I have known several emotionally stable, sensible ones.)
11 . There were groups calling themselves something like “knights” claiming to promote “vocations” or “youth work” who were plugging Teilhard, who turned out to be swingers (I realised after they fizzled out). This sort of thing must not be allowed to flare up again. We should all be promoting the vocation of laity and not let queer types corner it.

Like

12 . “Vocation” either is laity (single or not is none of the church’s business) or it shouldn’t be seen to exist at all. Lay children like Carlo Acutis, the Marto children and Dominic Savio knew how to do the world good and they didn’t have “vocations” thank God! Venerable Theresa Higginson never took any oath, she was just a random provisional single.
13 . All sodalities’ monies should be officially and openly parish, only, but every bishop and financial committee member throughout each diocese should help ensure no banking gets done outside the locality and should demand details of transactions corresponding to inter-diocesan levels.
14 . Formation situations have got to have a far more serious procedure for defending trainees and “lesser” priests and bishops, and members of groups from passes and agression from peers or seniors. I constantly hear sneering about how passes and salacious talk, and being put up to “dares”, are “consensual”. No they are not. Being a ABGILQT ( plus * ) clergy person, trainee or sodality operative (however “inactive”, “non-open” or “heterosexually married”, is their affair) doesn’t accord the right to make passes or use salacious talk, agression or manoeuvring private or public, or foist sentimentality, no matter on whose behalf. Those (however senior) who defend the right of any to wield such behaviours must themselves be degraded and disgraced, permanently. All clergy (including junior suffragans) and laity are vulnerable. “Safeguarding” is PART OF pastoring.
15 . The farrago sometimes called CCC should not be regarded as a training or devotional aid because it is self-referential and doesn’t tell us how to live the Christian life.
16 . The very ingrained practice of making more senior figures take prominence at certain kinds of funeral, expressing not so veiled unsuitable remarks, must be stopped.
{ * I think “plus” means both “heterosexually married” and the apparently / nominally / officially “heterosexually celibate clergy” as well, because all categories have some who do these things }

Like

9:57 Anon. I don’t think it’s as “obvious ” as you claim, and using the term “seminary rejects” is a complete misnomer. Perhaps you haven’t read the many comments that those who freely opted to leave did so on realising that a false duplicitous life in the cesspool of RC clericalism was not the wisest choice. Others have said that invariably those with “the guts” got out once they realised what ordination/incorporation into the clerical life really entailed. And there are many eminent examples of outstanding ability in both public and commercial life to be found in ex sems: John Hume to take one example.
When John left Maynooth, his father said that it took a good man to join up, but a better man to get out.
I rather suspect comments referring to seminary rejects comes from sour crabbid clerics regretting what a waste their “vocation” has been, and feeling the general disdain in which they are increasingly perceived.

You are right, + Pat. About consistency. If the Church thinks that gay people are ‘intrinsically disordered’ then should they really be considering these people for roles that are of the highest order in the Church – priests, bishops etc ? Of course, they try to water it all down by saying that ‘we are all sinners’, or ‘we love the sinner but hate the sin’, and try to make their divisive and hate filled theology all fluffy. But, in reality, there is a deeply ingrained homophobia in Catholic theology, just as there is deeply ingrained misogyny, as well as an unhealthy obsession with sexual and genital activity. And, a deeply ingrained inconsistency and hypocrisy when the Catholic priesthood is majorly populated by men of homosexual orientation, and a big proportion of that group sexually active in defiance of their vows of celibacy. When you come to think about it, the Church is completely fucked up – inconsistent and hypocritical ! They don’t see it, of course, which is why it is important that people like + Pat and this blog keep pointing it out !
