There is a report circulating among clergy claiming that the bishop of Kilmore, Martin Hayes is “missing”.
The report is also claiming the the retired bishop has been brought back as “administrator”.
These reports are circulating in Ireland and Rome.

Martin Hayes (59) was ordained as bishop a 16 months ago on 20.9.20.
Last night a Kilmore priest said Hayes was just on a holiday?
I have never heard of a bishop appointing an “administrator” while he was holidays.
What’s going on in Kilmore???
TUAM INSTALLATION ON SUNDAY NEXT AT 2.30 PM

The new archbishop of Tuam, Francis Duffy will be installed on Sunday coming.
IRISH BISHOP’S STATEMENT
Most Reverend Francis Duffy will be installed as Archbishop of Tuam in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Tuam, on Sunday next, 9 January 2022, during the celebration of Mass at 2.30pm. He succeeds Archbishop Michael Neary who was appointed Archbishop of Tuam on 17 January 1995.
While it was hoped to celebrate the Installation with as many people as possible in attendance, and at the same time respecting the public health advice and the current official guidelines, this is now not possible due to the widespread circulation of the coronavirus in the community.
Archbishop Francis has decided to reduce the risk of his Installation becoming a potential spreader event, and to show his support for and solidarity with all who provide care for those suffering from Covid-19, all healthcare workers, and all work on the frontline in any capacity, the number of invited guests will be reduced to a minimum.
Therefore, Archbishop Francis respectfully asks those who have been invited not to attend in person but instead to watch the ceremony online, or to listen to the ceremony on Galway Bay FM or Midwest Radio. He regrets the need to take this decision, but he is confident that it will be received with appreciation and understanding.
The congregation in the Cathedral will now be limited to members of Archbishop Francis’ immediate family and a number of close friends, His Excellency Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Michael Neary and a small number of bishops including the bishops of dioceses in the Tuam Province (Achonry, Clonfert, Elphin, Galway and Killala), members of the Tuam Council of Priests representing the clergy of the diocese, and members of the College of Consultors to whom the Holy Father’s letter of appointment must be shown. The laity and religious living in the Archdiocese will be represented. Others assisting at the Liturgy will also be present.
Those wishing to watch the livestream may do so by using this link: https://www.tuamparish.com/web-cam

Pat, it’s not thunder and lightning we need but a kind, caring, listening, compassionate bishop. This notion of setting fires aflame with renewal is all talk. You know that. You haven’t achieved it nor never will. Selling the Gospel of Christ vision and way of life is a most difficult task in 2022. This you also know Pat but we try to engage creatively and meaningfully on the ground with parishioners. You likewise work on a one to one or with a small congregation. I wish the new Bishop well and pray for God’s blessings upon him. Can you do likewise?

I see that the new Archbishop of Tuam is a Kilmore native. Is this an example of the Wounded Healer pulling strings, even now?
I looked at the CV of Francis Duffy and was amazed to see that his entire priestly service was as a desk priest. He was never a curate or PP. Many of us had hoped that under this pontificate the crazy policy of appointing desk priests as bishops had ended. Clearly not.
The Archbishop-elect was born on 21 April 1958 in the parish of Templeport, Co Cavan. He completed his post-primary education at St Patrick’s College, Cavan.
He studied for the priesthood at Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Kilmore on 20 June 1982.
He taught at St Patrick’s College, Cavan, and was appointed principal of Fatima and Felim’s Secondary School, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim in 1996.
After twelve years as principal Father Francis was appointed Diocesan Secretary, Financial Administrator and Chancellor. During that time he was resident priest in the parish of Laragh, Co Cavan, and lived in Clifferna. On 17 July 2013, he was appointed Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois with his episcopal ordination taking place on 6 October 2013 at Saint Mary’s Church, Athlone.

@1:53: you overlook that the primary purpose of the RCC, like any hierarchical organisation, is its continuation and smooth functioning. 😉
That’s why it needs experienced functionaries who won’t create too many ripples, and at same time dupe those lower in the food chain, especially the lucrative laity.

Bishop Pat, If you ask the comms people you would get the TRUTH.
No Bishop Emeritus has ever come back to Administer a diocese and this is a fact what you will see is Cardinals, Bishops remaining in their Dioceses until an appointment.
A vacant see can have an Apostolic Administrator or usually a Diocesan Administrator.
KILMORE is being administered by Monsignor Liam Kelly Vicar General.
Bishop Martin Hayes has asked to have time out and have PRIVICY so that has been granted.
As a Christian organisation that request was granted and his request for Privacy also.
Pray for Bishop Martin rather than try and have a go at someone when they have problems.

If these stories about Kilmore and its bishop are true, then it is a very strange situation where an ‘administrator’ is appointed and a bishop goes MIA. There may be very good reasons for this, perhaps health reasons. However, what we see here (if this situation is indeed as reported) is the Church resorting to its failed playbook tactic of just saying nothing and hoping that all the awkward, but perfectly reasonable and understandable, questions will just go away. How many times have we been down this road, and it always ends up making the matter worse ? Surely, Church authorities have the wit to take professional advice about how to manage difficult situations and crises, and that always is to get ahead of the crisis or situation, to be transparent and credible. They seem quite incapable of learning the lessons of past disasters and history. I despair !

If a candidate for the episcopacy was allowed to do due diligence on a diocese and inspect the clergy files and finances, many would turn down the role. I was interviewed for a senior position in Dundee by a panel including my proposed line manager. On becoming aware of his ineptitude, I directed to him my most searching questions, as prepared in advance, leaving him flailing and having to be “rescued ” by his colleagues. It was intentional.
I wasn’t offered the post, but my “tactic ” ensured I received my interview travel and accommodation costs!

If he’s ill, if he has cancer, if he has had a breakdown, if he is overwhelmed – then tell us, please ! That’s the least courtesy you could pay to the people who finance and support the priests, bishops and the diocese. Give us some respect, please. I don’t want to know all the intimate and gory details and am happy for him to maintain elements of personal confidentiality, but he is a public figure so just give us some respect by letting us know the generality, then we can feel that you value us and our support, and we can pray for the needs of this bishop. But, just to keep us in the dark and say nothing is a disgrace and a. huge disrespect to those of us who are faithful supporters and Catholics. Also, if we knew what was happening, then there wouldn’t be all this speculation.

“Missing”, many clergy are “missing” in different ways even when we “think” we can see them. “Missing” also is what they falsely profess to be – some don’t practice what they preach & are all & everything & more of that that they criticise in others. Is living off immoral earnings an actual crime in law? If so, we need to be looking more closely at the various sources of Church finances & assets in some areas.
