DID ARMAGH PRIEST DRUG AND ASSAULT A YOUNG MAN?

Reports are coming through of the drugging and sexual assault of a young man by an Armagh priest.

The matter was reported to the police.

EAMON MARTIN knows about the accusation and has all the details given to him.

Armagh’s safeguarding officer AIDAN GORDON has also been involved.

No action has been taken so far against the priest.

He is being treated as a priest “in good standing”.

In fact, it seems that in Armagh being a sexually active gay priests gets you brownie points with Aunty Amy.

DEACON RAPE IN SCOTLAND

From a Scottish priest:

“Pat,

We’ve just learnt today that there are 2 Parish Priests in the Archdiocese of Glasgow who were accused of rape of deacons.

One is historical from 80s and most recent one was in the naughties.

Deacon from 80s left and is now married; the other deacon is a PP.

We’re getting more details over next week or so. I believe Police are currently involved in historical one and that PP was removed for a short period of time but now returned.

Re the allegation from naughties the archdiocese threatened then deacon if he went to police he wouldn’t be ordained.

There are 100,000 less Catholics in Glasgow than there were in 1950.

Regarding the number of Catholics falling following Vatican II, the only reason they went up again briefly around 2013 was because of the temporary blip caused by immigration from Poland.

5:18, my point is that ++Eamon did reply.
“I request that anyone who has evidence of wrongdoing by any individual should provide that evidence to the appropriate ecclesiastical and/or civil authorities so that correct procedures can be followed in a just manner for all concerned.”
If people have a distrust of ecclesiastical authorities, they should report their concerns to civil authorities, as advised by ++Eamon.
A priest broke rank before Christmas and reported a safeguarding concern to +Pat. It was a vote of no confidence in his bishop. I have no problem with it. I’ve said many times, if people have a safeguarding concern and they do not trust the diocesan processes, they should report their concerns to the Gardaí or the relevant civil authorities.

He did reply but for what purpose, I wonder.
Was it merely a ‘holding’ letter considering it was Bishop Buckley,et al, bringing to his attention a serious matter of concern to many. Oh, I wouldn’t know….
Can I remind you, some people do not trust civil authorities due to their track record historically in issues involving the Church. Some of us are anything but naive, Seamus.
With respect, Seamus, before you or your colleagues seek apologies on behalf of
members of the hierarchy, bear this in mind; many people, including myself as well as a
number of commentators on this blog; are owed apologies from members of the Hierarchy.
I couldn’t careless what rank or how many crosses are before the clerics name-whether its the Pope to the lowest rank in Ecclesiastical life-many of us are due apologies from our supposedly moral leaders, our shepherds, our supposed spiritual fathers. Many of us

Totally disagree with your comment. €25k is the average salary for a priest, and works out at €1250 per year of service that TR gave the Reds. Compare that to average salary an Irish Psychotherapist makes €50,580 per year. Now that is a smart move! Compare the facts €25k vs €823,456 salary he could have earned during his time as a religious student and ordained priest. I dislike narrow-minded comments

Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre is no longer the quality training required for this profession. It had the edge in the early 90s, and was known for religious and dissatisfied clergy becoming psychotherapists before exiting. Training therapists via zoom makes this even more worrying as is their ambiguous Covid policy for in-house training. The basic course fees at DCTC are €23,200. The cost of my training including books, personal therapy cost €31,400, and most of the shite we learned is totally impractical. Tony was the golden boy at DCTC, a role he did not accomplish within the Redemptorist congregation. I am wondering is Tony going to be a tutor as the course will be offered in Omagh!

Tony Flannery has denied the sacramental nature of the priesthood, saying that he no longer believed it had been instituted by Christ, and that it was, in effect, the creation of an elite who usurped power in the Church. I have no idea what he means when he says the Creed and says he believes in an ‘apostolic Church’.
It is quite possible to argue this, of course: it’s a commonplace of Protestant theology, for instance, with Protestants generally rejecting the notion of a sacramental priesthood instituted by Christ, and tending to believe only in the broader ‘priesthood of all believers’. But that’s the thing: that’s a Protestant view, and one completely incompatible with Catholicism.

Are you in a position to trace the development of the interconnected concepts of episcopos, presbuteroi (note: plural), diakonos and hiereus over the course of the first four centuries? If not, I suggest you retract your comment which shows up your unfamiliarity with current (the past c.50 years) scholarship in this area and your tendency instead, to apply tribal perspectives on a complicated area.
Did you know, for example, that Jerome (ob.430) has a tendency to use sacerdos and episcopus interchangeably, that presbuteros is more commonly used in its plural form and that a development can be plotted in the early church whereby words used for persons in sacrificial rites in the Hellenistic world (including Judaism) were less frequently applied in relation to positions of leadership in the Christian communities?

A sizeable proportion of the general public view the RCC as an abusive & corrupt organisation based on the proven atrocities revealed in recent decades. It appears to attract an uncomfortably high percentage of both lay & ordained individuals who possess a thirst for various manner of injustice toward others in their communities & they are proactive via any means necessary in justifying & protecting the untenable, the aim being solely to protect the finances of the RCC above all else. That explains why desk men are typically appointed as Bishops in my opinion. It’s all about preserving RCC ill gotten gains above all else & particularly above anybody in the congregation foolish enough to think they are valued & despite the sermons to the contrary once again highlighting that clergy don’t practice what they preach. The backgrounds of the lay individuals that are currently being appointed to replace the shortage of vocations serve to confirm this in various parishes.

In relation to Glasgow:
In 1968, aprox one year after my personal decision to leave third divinity seminary, while still a practising RC follower, instead of my customary Southpark Ave, Glasgow University chaplaincy Sunday Mass, I went to Sunday Mass in a downtown area populated previously by largely Irish immigrants.
In his sermon, the priest spoke such “schit” ( not just contrary to then orthodox RC belief, but in the main, focused on an excessively haranguing manner of extracting extra parish finances), that afterwards I went to sacristy and attempted to ask him to explain.
He spluttered dismissive disbelief (that I, in his eyes a mere layperson) should in any way question him, and then when I referred to my recent seminary understanding of theological matters he had erroneously referred to, he just spluttered hostile dismissive comment to effect that “It’s no wonder people like you get “kicked out.” His entirely ad hominem attack was a watershed moment in my departure, initially from RC orthodoxy, and subsequently, from all religious beliefs.
And 50 years+ later, I’ve certainly no regrets.
I see little evidence that much has changed in the clerical mindset, and certainly no relevant evidential proof of the religious farrago they propose. They still talk “pious schit.”

Seamus from Mayo.ie has displayed very poor judgment in this post. The priest’s sermon is designed, by its nature, to elicit a response in the minds and hearts of those who hear it. What else do you think a homily is?
MMM was perfectly correct in responding to the stimulus as he did. If you don’t agree you are suffering from a worse strain of clericalism than is normally on show here.
If you listened with your heart to what MMM has written here you would see that the homily was the negative stimulus which resulted in at least one hearer leaving the church, and more tragically, abandoni g faith in God, although, of course, God has not abandoned him.
While the priest in question may not have intended the dire consequences of his sermon that day, he should have been more measured and less abrasive. In short, his homily should have been based on the Gospel.
The worst aspect of modern liturgy is the homily.

Not at all a convincing or persuasive retort. Your judgment, in this instance, is flawed. Lack of prudence and lack of discernment, therefore, are very likely hallmarks of many of your postings here. The sermon was a public event delivered coram populo. Ergo, the respondant was entitled to be deliver his answer in the presence of the initial speaker and others.
To characterise, even to caricature MMM’s response as ‘looking for trouble’ is already to operate from a prejudicial perspective. In the dialogical and dialectical Socratic method, truth is to be found in the conversation. You failedto recognise that a response was required and, happily delivered.
Since you insist on appending the word ‘pax’ to many of your (ill-judged) responses, you should know the word has a long traditionin Hebrew, Greek and Latin milieux. For peace to flourish justice must precede it.

I cannot believe that you are naive enough to believe that there is only one parish in which this might happen. It sounds as if you are a priest trying to run your parish to be best of your ability but I do appreciate that it must be difficult to achieve inclusiveness when a proportion of your lay volunteers persist in utilising their church related status in communities for advantage in their outside professional or business interests. Indeed, transparency, prior to and during appointments is essential to avoid such conflicts of interest that can be off putting to other parishioners you might seek to engage. It’s a difficult ball to balance, all things considered, for sure. I hope you have a Peaceful & Happy New Year in 2022 in your vocation.

” ROME – Earlier this week the troubled German Archdiocese of Cologne announced that the Vatican has agreed to conduct an external audit into its contracts once the archbishop of the diocese returns from a papal-mandated sabbatical.
The audit will investigate canonical legality in the awarding of contracts over the past ten years, a diocesan statement said.”

There’s enough heresy on this blog already without imporing more from the Mormons.

I am a baptised Christian, you tell me…
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

7:12. He might be another peculiar priest gone rogue? There is no shortage of priests out of ministry. It’s a great video. 😊

7.12: Are you the commenter who daily asks the question, “..Are you a priest..?” What is the significance of this recurring, nonsensical question? Answer on a stamp…it’s about as far as your intelligence stretches…but, pray, tell us why you keep asking…

What a load of old nonsense from an old lady dressed as a French priest – it is idolatory and it is heretical.
We are invited to become one (attonement = become at one with). We are invited into the mystery of God’s presence, His essence even; it is an invitation to journey with the Lord, if you like and, to attain in the likeness of our God, (always in, and through, Christ Jesus).
And God is love, truth and light.
That which is opposed to love, light and truth is opposed to God — it is not of the light. Their own rules and laws; they work in darkness and are therefore blind the the reality of God, whom is love, truth and light.
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
2 Peter 1:4

+Amy must know what she’s doing, Bp Pat. In the meantime, I hope you have something a little more jolly for us next week, an update on Miss Sheehan, perhaps, or complete medical history of the bishop of Kilmore.

Todays blog & in particular posts @ 2.23, 2.25, 6.42 & 6.57 mention patterns of behaviour from clergy such as
“See, hear, speak, no evil”. “Do not reply to concerns raised”, “homily designed to provoke thought/response”, “victim blaming”, “Magdalene Mother & Baby Homes akin to torture chambers”. So basically, we are looking at a controlling and abusive mindset that seeks to dictate how we think as long as that fits with their objective, that utilises the above methods & gaslighting toward anyone that questions them & this seems to be a uniform approach across the board looking at a wider range of responses. It adds a whole new meaning to the term “keep safe”. Defending the indefensible seems par for the course in the RCC worldwide.

9:17 RCC clerical fraternity must stop cherry picking the gospel. “If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you don’t like, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself. ” Saint Augustine.

Rubbish. A homily is designed to get a person thinking for themselves. As Jesus’ parables. That’s not control. It’s called educating someone. Did you miss the main point in many other comments today?

Pat, Can any of your Scottish clergy correspondents tell us what was the problem that caused Mgr Tom Miller to stand down from SD at Oscott after a few weeks.

All Francis needs now is a letter to an abortion activist saluting her ‘witness’ or whatever. However, that box was largely ticked by awarding the order of St. Gregory the Great to Liliane Ploumen, Belgian politician and abortion activist. Surely a award for Emma Bonino, a noted friend who boasted of 20,000 abortions? Perhaps not, his strategic silences whenever there is a legalisation effort, plus his open hostility to any pro-life politician, are good enough for his corporate owners like Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos.

That jibe generally comes from supporters of abortion. I strongly suspect I do far more in way of charity than you anon. Child dismemberment (which is what a late term abortion is), and all abortion, supported by the tax payer is an atrocity, Nothing, not even the sinecures to the pals of Leo comes close, for it involves the death of children.

From your post at 11.19 it’s safe to conclude you’ve had little to do with educators, of the transparent (whatever that means) kind or otherwise. Or if you did, much went over your head.
