IS FATHER RAY  KELLY GOING ON EURO 6,000 DANIEL O DONNELL 60 TH BIRTHDAY CRUISE?

DID TOM DEENIHAN TELL RAY KELLY HE COULD NOT GO ON THE CRUISE?

Reports in clerical circles are claiming that Tom told Ray Kelly he did  not have his permission to go on the cruise – but that Ray is going anyway.

Ray is one of Deenihan’s PPs.

And who is going took after Biddy and Buddy

FATHER MARTIN DELANEY of Ossory diocese is going too.

DELANEY

AND DONT TELL ME THEY ARE GOING TO LEAVE POOR BRIAN DARCY AT HOME?

BRIAN – ON HEARING ABOUT THE CRUISE

LETTER FROM IRISH PRIEST

“Dear Bishop Pat,

I write to you about the serious situation in Meath and Bishop Tom Deenihan. He’s lost the plot. Lads are going AWOL on him

His singer, Father Ray Kelly – the BGT * star is off on a cruise in February – a 5 * cruise. Just check it out Pat. Off to the Bahamas – himself and another showman from Ossory – Fr Martin Delaney – off to celebrate Daniel O’Donnell’s 60 th birthday.

Called to serve, how are ya! € 6000 a ticket – all paid.

Gertrude Byrne Cruises with all the country stars and the two boys as chaplains.

Poor Tom – told him he couldn’t go – didn’t work though. Tom’s lost the plot. Silverstream and now this – another scandal. Off with the wealthy ex pats and all the stipends for the two boys.

Sooner Ossory gets a bishop the better – running rings around Nulty. Poor Denis. Not a clue.

Meath getting big claim for insurance over Covid – € 5 million.

All dioceses the same.

Dublin is getting € 20 million payout”.

He’s actually in the Canary Islands as he has been spotted socialising in the Yumbo Centre with a few friends.

According to Travelgay, the Yumbo Centrum opened its doors in 1982 and has become the epicentre of the LGBT community in Gran Canaria. In the surrounding areas, many gay hotels are within walking distance. Other features include bars, music, dancing, karaoke, live music, cafe, restaurant, shop, internet access, massage, sauna, maze, relaxing cabins, dark room, spa, male gogo shows, drag, and cabaret shows, and free wi-fi.
Everything a priest needs, in fact.

From the Sunday Life 2008
By Mick Browne
November 02 2008
A Belfast priest — who was co-celebrant for a daughter of one of Ireland’s richest men — hit the jackpot when an elderly parishioner left him £220,000 in her will.
Some of the parishioner’s relatives challenged its legality, but that was withdrawn after he settled with some family members and he has refused to return the rest.
Mary Elizabeth O’Neill (86) died in a Ballycastle nursing home last September having signed a will making Fr Stephen McBrearty co-executor and sole beneficiary of her will.
The will was accepted as legally valid and that the money had been left to Fr McBrearty, who is originally from Donegal.
However, two of Mrs O’Neill’s nephews challenged it at the High Court in Belfast on the grounds he had “undue influence” on their aunt.
Born Mary Boyle in Loughguile, Co Antrim, in 1923, Mrs O’Neill had no children and in her later years was looked after by a nephew, Jed Boyle.
After she developed Alzheimers Disease, she was moved to the Leabank Nursing Home in Ballycastle, where Jed’s wife looked after her along with other residents.
Fr McBrearty, who is in his mid-50s, is currently parish priest at St Anthony’s Chapel in Willowfield, a strongly-loyalist district of east Belfast.
He is a friend of the wealthy Smurfit family and was a co-celebrant at Michael Smurfit’s daughter Sharon’s wedding in Co Kildare in 1999.
He also ministers to women prisoners at Hydebank Young Offenders Centre and is also the chaplain at Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre.
Fr McBrearty’s ties to Mrs O’Neill come from his friendship her husband Robert in the late 1980s, while he served as parish priest in Cloughmills, Co Antrim. He kept up the acquaintance after the elderly couple moved to Antrim in the 1990s.
In 1990, Mr O’Neill made McBrearty his sole beneficiary in his own will and, after his death in 1994, Mrs O’Neill made her own will in February 1998 leaving her entire estate to Fr McBrearty.
There the matter lay until her death last September. The subsequent reading of her will saw the family lodge their legal challenge to its validity.
Fr McBrearty settled with some members of the family for £26,000.
However, her nephews claim they were unaware of the deal until after it was signed.
Fr McBrearty has not acted illegally in any fashion and the church’s canon law contains no directions on the ethics of accepting such large legacies from parishioners.
The fact the O’Neill’s made McBrearty sole beneficiary in both their wills shows their settled intention to donate their estate to him.
One of Mrs O’Neill’s nephews told Sunday Life: “We are still open to the idea of splitting the estate or making sure he (Fr McBrearty) received a substantial portion from the estate, but taking it all left us amazed.”
Another nephew who cared for Mrs O’Neill in her last years added: “We want him to return the money or at least some of it.
“We’re hoping he’ll agree to at least discuss it.”
Jed Boyle told Sunday Life: “I was the one who looked after her and my wife is a nurse in the home who looked after her as she was in her last years and was dying there — he wasn’t a blood relative.”
At St Anthony’s on Belfast’s Woodstock Road, Fr McBrearty was asked about the claims and the potential conflict of interest.
He said: “I tell you what, you know. I suggest you get in touch with the lawyer who dealt with it, Mark Borland, and I have no problem you talking to him.
“I have done everything correctly, according to her wishes, and if you talk to Mark Borland (of solicitors) Conway Todd, have a chat with him. Fair enough?”
Asked about the will and the family’s criticisms, Fr McBrearty added: “’I don’t know what their allegations are.
“Talk to Mark Borland. Go and talk to him and see what’s there.”
A spokesman for Down and Connor diocese confirmed there is nothing in canon law to stop the acceptance of such personal legacies with the decision to receive such legacies left up to the individuals concerned.

Stephen is from Glen Rd Belfast. Not Donegal. A house with a view of a bus depot. Far cry from social heights of the Gold Coast of Hollywood. I wonder how many people will make him a beneficiary of their wills. He will need all the money he can get to keep him in his label off duty clothes.

In any recognised profession it would be deemed unethical or a conflict of interest to receive money from clients and warrant a full investigation in accordance with the body that regulates practice. It is clear there is two things missing in the church; regulation and ethics! Haha

11:29. Can the priesthood be called a profession ? It’s a brotherhood rather than a profession; a society within the church; a law onto themselves know as canon law; preaching one thing while behaving in a duplicitous inhuman manner when necessary. Ethics? On paper.

Sugar Ray is not an incardinated priest of Meath, in fact he is not a diocesan priest at all, so Big Tom has little jurisdiction over him. Ray is one of these Irish missionaries who wasn’t accepted as a diocesan sem, so joined a religious order/congregation/society as a second best, and then came back to Ireland when slots started to become available in parishes.

There are far too many singing priests in the country where there is a shortage of clergy. It’s about time those useless Bishops were giving the lot of them a belt of the crozier. Tell them to get on with what they were ordained to do, and stop attention seeking. Leave that to D’Arcy, he’s more than enough for the lot of them.

Like

Precisely. A priest might have a talent for painting but he wouldn’t be allowed to abandon his parish constantly to paint. Fr Liam Lawton has dodged parish service for decades.

That Ray Kelly is such an egotist.
“Speaking on the Ray Darcy radio show on RTE radio earlier today Fr Kelly said he was delighted to get the call and be asked to act as both chaplain and entertainer to the cruise.
“I got a call a while back asking me if I’d be interested in being a chaplain and perhaps an entertainer on a cruise and a lady from America contacted me and there’s one coming up now next May. I’ve never been on a cruise ship before in my life and I thought ‘wow, that would be so nice’ so it hasn’t even been advertised yet [it’s sold out according to the website] and I’ll be chaplain and entertaining so fulfilling both roles, the dream job,” laughed the parish priest who made it the semi-finals stage of BGT. When told Daniel O’Donnell would also be part of the entertainment on board, Fr Ray said the ‘pressure would be on’”.

Like

Fr Shirley Bassey defied Phonsie by going on Francis Brennan’s RTE camp travel show to Vietnam. Look what happened to Fr Shirl as a result – out the door!! If Meath and Ossory allow these two priests to go on an extravagant €6,000 luxury cruise whilst people are struggling financially is obscene. Whether they are paying for it themselves or someone is paying it for them is not the point. The point is that when people are losing their livelihoods and lives due to covid this sends out a very wrong message. Is Daniel O’Donnell npt sending out a wrong message in the middle of a pandemic. D’Arcy will not be happy that Nathan will be Daniel’s guest on board the cruise. Ship ahoy.

Pat, what are we doing that we miss these perks? Couldn’t care less about them. I have little time for Kelly. Have never heard of Delaney. If their trip is being paid for, that’s ok but Daniel should just go on his trip without broadcasting it. These guys are forever hogging the headlines. There are those in our midst who’ll do anything for fame. Guess you and I will stay on the ground…doing our utmost in ministry. I don’t believe that Bishop Tom deserves being caricatured. The rest of the characters are uninteresting.

Sadly there are clerics in Meath Diocese who resent Ray Kelly in his dual career – priest and entertainer/singer which involves his absence from his parish. I suppose if you have a gift, it’s good to share it but I believe parish duties must be a priority. There are many who have great time for Fr. Kelly and perhaps some if his colleagues resent his fame and his absence. There are many too who are grateful for his support for local charities. Each to his own – maybe. Daniel would be too sweet for my travelling companion. Pat, you could mind Ray’s dogs…🐩🐕🐩🐕🐩

The Bishop should allow him to go as long as he behaves himself. He could have a few drinks but not to be going overboard.

Like

I’m not clear what the specific issue is here.
Is it the bishop telling a priest not to do something?
Is it the priest doing it anyway?
Is it the priest having €6,000 to hand (isn’t he a diocesan priest and so not vowed to poverty)?
Is it the priest spending it on the cruise?
Or
Is it priests hobnobbing with celebs?

Like

The problems are:
* a week-long cruise doesn’t deserve a chaplain, when there are priestless parishes;
* it’s highly insensitive for priests (who have suffered no loss of income during covid) to be going as entertainers on cruise ships. There are many lay entertainers who have had no work for two years who would gladly do it;
* in a spirit of humility Ray and the others could give their places to deserving parishoners;
* Ray and the others will need to be covered during their absence;
* it’s all “me, me, me” and unbecoming of clergy to be doing show tunes;
* it’s sheer clericalism to use their priestly status to get gigs.

Like

4.00: The musings of a horrible begrudger. What is wring with you guys who look for every opportunity to slam clerics for all the wrong reasons? Incidentally, the salaries of clerics took a huge tumble since the pandemic but we have sufficient and are not complaining. Some priests are fortunate to have inherited family legaciess, often veing the only child. Fr. Ray and other talented priests use their gifts wisely. I do not know Fr. Kelly well but I know he raises much funds for local charities. Well done to him.

Dear +Pat,
If memory serves me right you don’t have a very high opinion of Fr. Ray. However recent blogs demonstrate that you are not always factually accurate in what you publish. I will therefore ask you – is Fr. Ray paying €6k for a cruise, or is he being paid to be there as a chaplain?
*
With regards to Tommy D – that is certainly the type of thing he would do. But to be fair he would think it normal as it is the type of thing Bishop Johnny Buckley thought to do. At one stage he instructed priests in Cork & Ross that they were not allowed drive BMWs. Anybody who knows about cars can tell you a half-decent second hand BMW can be reasonably priced – and comparable in price to the Nissans that Johnny used to drive. I am not sure what he drives currently. Any way, Tommy will think such instruction normal for a bishop.
*
I wish Fr. Ray a happy cruise. Even if he paid for it, it is not unreasonable for a person his age to have saved up for a special holiday. It may be a job, it may be the result of years of disciplined saving. He’s done no harm.

In most of the towns I lived in, the Irish in the parishes and generally, seemed to fit in nicely, no matter how they were wholesomely proud of being Irish in itself. In my present town however (still in England) the Irish element and some of Irish descent show they think the Catholic religion is Irish. In my young day pre “animation” and pre intensity, my family (and we’re not chauvinistic, being varied ourselves, but by chance not having any canonical ethnic in the background) thought it was open to all, and that’s why three of my grandparents joined it (for all three it was their second change of religion).

Sugar Ray says on his blog that he returned to Ireland for family reasons, so it wasn’t for any high minded motive of doing missionary work in Ireland.

Africans won’t evangelise Europe. That’s a fantasy. Decline has accelerated under Francis. They are here to fill gaps and to keep the show on the road for a few more years to ensure that the elderly still can still have Mass available. There is no evangelisation or growth in Europe apart from the TLM communities.

There seems to be a fair few of these Kilteganers, SMAs and other would be “missionary priests” floating about ‘plum parishes’ in Ireland. Fair enough if they’ve done a reasonable stint abroad or have had health issues on missions. But seems a cushy number to get ordained for missions, do a nominal “tour” out there then opt for a soft parish back on home turf. I think that “motorbike priest” who died a few weeks ago in the North was another Kiltegan.

Like

Exactly, that’s what they do. Usually they weren’t accepted as diocesan arms but then came back in via the back door, having decided that missionary work is a lot hard than doing a 10am pensioners Mass in a country parish. They get nostalgic and want to come home.

Too many of these priests mentioned today seem to think that the priesthood is a vehicle for their own advancement, exposure, advertisement. It’s part of the clerical culture that we all know about and increasingly revile – namely, it’s all about me ! This is why we need to cut the feet and legs off these clergy and bring them down a peg or two, so that they learn humility and simplicity. Then they would be living out a true priesthood, rather than some contrived nonsense that is all about them.

The Church in Ireland encouraged the narrative that the priest was the fountain of all knowledge in Ireland. This was used to control generations of Irish Catholics. @5.16pm How many chances does one need ie Monty? He has been given numerous chances by Elsie which is raising questions as to why? The word in Westminister is the ex Anglican influence who leaned on our Else. So many noses have been put out of joint at Monty’s appointment as you corrrectly say. However, give someone enough rope as they say and that is Elsie’s ploy. She aint daft that one and don’t be fooled by that wry wee smirk on her puss.

Pat,
Looking over today’s comments, Pat, it’s safe to conclude your blog is performing some service. A majority of comments express unhappiness, dissatisfaction and begrudge what their authors perceive as the easier, more fortunate lives of other people.
Maybe the expression of negativity is a positive experience for the commenters and absorbs some of life’s hurt from them. It may even help to make the lives of those they live with a little more bearable.
So, Pat, your pastoral sensitivities are very much in evidence in today’s post. You seem to be able to draw out bile and bitterness like a poultice and hopefully, in that way, to relieve the posters of some of their pessimism, cynicism and defeatism.
Ad multos annos!

Yes, Pat. I like the way you responded to the negative comment about Fr Joe McVeigh. While you published the comment, you made it clear your experience was different.

Like

@2.51pm The only people who are attacking Fr Joe are loyalists and a few of his own fellow clergy. He is well known for his Republican views and is a quiet kindly man. Who could blame him for not wanting to live with fellow clergy? Sure the permanent deacon in Enniskillen runs the show and is the real PP there.

They don’t seem to go in for singing priests in England to any great extent. In fact the only one I can think of is Canon Pat “Yellow Door” Browne, the PP of Pimlico, and he is Irish.

@12.12pm They did have at one time in England the Priest’s holy roadshow. Pat Browne was in it along with Terry Phipps and others.

Is Fr. Brian d’Arcy heading off on the cruise as well as he likes to shadow the different singers. Another on is Pat Butler in W&L.
Did you see Song’s of Praise recently where they paid their tribute to Daniel on his 60th. In it they showed Fr. Brian performing at Daniel’s wedding to a divorced Majella.
How were they allowed to marry in the Catholic Church. I know of a number of people who are in second marriages and because one or both of them were married before in the RC and divorced they were not allowed to marry in the church. Was it as case that Daniel’s cash spoke and maybe an evelope to someone on high gave the go ahead for him to get married in the church.

God bless Pope Francis!
The author of 2 Timothy 4 has some consoling and uplifting words for our Holy Father.
“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:
“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.
“For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
“They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
“But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
“For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

There seems to be a common denominator with the priests from either side of the Irish Sea who like to write to Pat Buckley with “scandals” – the inability to write in proper English! The letters are so badly written I would bet that it’s one person writing them all.

Is the sum and total of Pat Buckley’s “episcopal” ministry to promote filth and peddle gossip?

Like

Yes, “Petrus”, there are absolutely no scandals in the immaculate Roman Catholic Church in Ireland. They are all invented by Pat Buckley and his single correspondent. 😜 🤡

Pat Buckley is NOT stupid enough to go on one persons writings as that would be foolish indeed.
It Seem Bishop Buckley gets emails, telephone calls, house visits, meetings and letters so Petrus you are wrong.
Maybe you are worried in case you are next.

Oh, such ‘snobby weather’ wherever you reside, Petrus.
Bishop Buckley’s episcopal ministry is not to promote filth and peddle gossip, but rather to expose the rotten culture of filth corruption abusiveness and crime within the Church in Ireland and Internationally. Pope Francis used the word ‘caca’ to describe such filth.
Pope Benedict XVI was at pains to cleanse the filth in the Church.
What is your view on the filth in the Church, Petrus?

DECREE ON THE MINISTRY AND LIFE OF PRIESTS
PRESBYTERORUM ORDINIS
PROMULGATED BY HIS HOLINESS,
POPE PAUL VI
ON DECEMBER 7, 1965
PREFACE
1. The excellence of the order of priests in the Church has already been recalled to the minds of all by this sacred synod.(1) Since, however, in the renewal of Christ’s Church tasks of the greatest importance and of ever increasing difficulty are being given to this order, it was deemed most useful to treat of the subject of priests at greater length and with more depth. What is said here applies to all priests, especially those devoted to the care of souls, with suitable adaptations being made for priests who are religious. Priests by sacred ordination and mission which they receive from the bishops are promoted to the service of Christ the Teacher, Priest and King. They share in his ministry, a ministry whereby the Church here on earth is unceasingly built up into the People of God, the Body of Christ and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in order that their ministry be carried on more effectively and their lives be better provided for, in pastoral and human circumstances which very often change so profoundly, this sacred synod declares and decrees as follows.
CHAPTER I
THE PRIESTHOOD IN THE MINISTRY OF THE CHURCH

10:53 Outrageous considering the amount of pleading for money from the church over the last two years. Many parishioners have suffered great hardship, lost businesses, livelihoods, sickness and suicides while the church continued online and offline begging. Were the Hierarchy on a promise?

Pat, you need to update your photo of Fr. Brian D’arcy…..he has aged considerably in recent times. Looks quite old now.

The bitchy, queeny, jealous score-settling today would suggest that the cause of any shortage of priestly vocations is the priests themselves.

Liked by 1 person

9:10- the secretive, covert, covering up of a tsunami of scandalous abuse, corruption and crime by successive generations of clerics/hierarchs suggests the grave problems of the institutional church are problems created by the clerics/hierarchs themselves.

Like

It does not help one bit, and a big portion of claims against those where neither independent evidence nor at least a bad repute exists, are just score settling. I suppose that’s obvious. A young to middle aged priest should not have to look over his shoulder at jealous colleagues, or at least not have to fear unfair claims of bad character.
I suppose if Fr Kelly is not living a scandalous life, and follows direction from those he reports to (although that is not wholly clear, whether his local ordinary or the Kiltegan Frs would prefer him to stick to more humdrum parish duties, as priests under the age of retirement are not plentiful), there’s no great harm. I could, say, comment that it might diminish the standing of the priesthood, but that boat sailed long ago.
Oh well. I’m sure Fr and those wealthy oldies will love the cruiser.

I had heard talk of a number of Belfast priests being gay. Now I’m beginning to wonder are the straight priests in Belfast in a minority. I must add however that I don’t care about anyone’s sexuality but I don’t understand how active gay priests think it’s ok to live a double life-preaching one thing and doing something else. Surely they have chosen the wrong profession or have they really?
