KIRBY OF SILVERSTREAM TRYING TO CLAIM INNOCENCE!

MARK KIRBY, the shamed founder and prior of Ireland’s homoerotic priory, has been writing to friends abroad telling them that he has been cleared of all wrongdoing by the Irish police, Canon law and the charity commissioners.

He is putting his vindication down to the direct intercession of the Virgin Mary

It may be true that no charges have been brought to date – but that is down to the fact that he sexually targeted a monk – an adult.

The monk, Father Benedict Andersen never claimed that Kirby actually assaulted him genitally- but rather sexually harassed him in a homosexual fashion.

Kirby came to Ireland with a well developed reputation of being dodgy when it comes to homosexuality.

He also restricts the age entrance to Silverstream to 30.

That means he only wants 18 – 30 old novices!

A very strange requirement. Does God no longer call those over 30 to priesthood or religious life.

That would even rule Jesus Himself out who did not begin his mission until the age of 30.

Apart from the homosexual concern, Father Benedict described in sworn documents and the drawer of cash Kirby kept in his desk – amounting to tens of thousands of Euros.

No legitimate religious house or diocese allows desk drawers bursting with notes.

Benedict also claimed that Kirby paid off a lay worker in the prior with cash after the workman spotted some “inappropriate touching” being engaged in by Kirby.

Kirby has always inhabited a strange world in which homosexuality and monasticism co-exist.

He is the author of a long letter to an Abbot outlining this monastic coexistence in his ownife.

The police and charity commissioners will only act if a crime has been committed.

The RCC us infamous for its support and tolerance of all kinds of Kirbys.

The local episcopus, Tom Deenihan is many things but certainly not a moral crusader.

It emerged this week that Kiby taught the leader of another monastic cult I Wyoming in the USA where all the monks strip for each other and novices are harassed.

https://wyomingcarmelitemonastery.tumblr.com/dossier_police_report

These places of sexual and religious abuse are spring up in many places and two factors stand out:

1. Homoerotic overtones.

2. The Tridentine Mass.

Kirby and his ilk are a danger to all Catholics but particularly to Catholic young men feeling called to a monasticism life.

To paraphrase a Scripture:

“They are lions prowling around seeking young men to devour”.

And the amazing things is that otherwise intelligent Catholics are falling for their caca.

Kirby even claims that Jesus speaks to him from the tabernacle.

And people are paying money to Kirby to find out what Jesus says to him.

In my opinion, Kirby is dangerous and should be under psychiatric / psychotheraputic care.

My observation is that so many, probably the majority, of these young vocations who are going in to places like Silverstream or the Wyoming Carmelites, will unlikely still be there in 5 or ten years. When I come across a young cleric or religious who is full of his self-importance and idiotic theological and liturgical nonsense, they usually tell me that I am just a jaded, old, washed out has been. I tell them to come back and we will see where they are in 10 years. They will not be where they are now in all their arrogant self-assurance. They will have come to experience and realise the toxic, dysfunctional and damaging culture they have entered, and will probably be somewhere else. In the meantime I’m content to leave them making tits of themselves and wandering around from shrine to shrine and Latin Mass to Latin Mass and to play at being other worldly. They will soon learn. That’s what I see all the time.

Robert, the position adopted by you in your video is out of date since Pope Francis issued Spiritus Domini, motu proprio last January.

Since the liturgy of the eucharist is structured around the fourfold action of the Lord at the Last Supper, Jesus took, blessed, broke and gave the bread and wine to his disciples, it is appropriate that the one presiding at the eucharist distributes the consecrated elements.
It is equally appropriate that clergy and instituted lay ministers would also distribute them.

Like

But the priest does preside, and he hands the consecrated host to the laity after this is done. They take and eat; but they share, also. How beautiful is that?
I always thought the curtain in the temple, the holy of holies, torn in two again to signify that the priest is not the ultimate mediator between man and God? To bridge the gap: the transcendental takes on a deeper imminence in the here and now (while retaining all the mystery of transcendentalism).

I think Pat you have been treated horrifically by the Irish Church in the 80s, you obviously have a lot of compassion for people and I believe you genuinely wanted to help. You have sadly become the marmite of Irish Catholicism. The monks of Silverstream are some of the finest men I know and I’m not going to gossip about them, they deserve their privacy. Yes we need reform and we need to hold the church to account, but cartoon comic book, name calling won’t go anywhere. As baptised Catholics we need to build up the church, pray for our family the church, not see priests/bishops men held at a distance. We need to reach out and help priests, even priests who have personal problems. I’m sorry how you were treated as a young priest, but I take a different approach to this. I’ve been lucky to have had many good honest priests / bishops as friends for over 30 years. I firmly believe we need to support and mentor priests and ensure they have everything they need, I’ve campaigned to ensure priests have holidays and time off. They should have support of a community of Priests. Irish Catholicism is in a sorry state, but we can do better. Priests deserve better.

It is interesting that the saga surrounding Silverstream Priory continue to be ventilated on this blog. The pseudo-mysticism of Mark Kirby should be a cause of concern for Bishop Deenihan. However, it is only a matter of time before further allegations come into the public domain about Kirby and his past. Leopards never change their spots. Moreover, I would suggest that Kirby left the USA and to escape his past! He is however, of the generation that has failed to take into account the realities of social media and the power of Google. The question you should be asking Bishop Pat: why did Kirby leave the Diocese of Tulsa?

ROBERT @ 11.48

Thank you for your very reasonable comment.
I have no reason to doubt what you say about Silverstream, apart from Mark Kirby.
You must know that Mark comes with baggage with regard to his homosexuality in the various places he has been.
In fact he has written a very long letter himself outlining his difficulties on this area that I have seen.
For Silverstream to do well Mark needs to retire away from it.
Rebuilding the Church is very like renovating a house with always begins with some demolition. Maybe I am a small part of the demolition squad?

Like

I’m not going to speculate, Dom Mark has been the kindest priest I’ve met, he has never asked tor anything. I take a different approach, how can we build men up, help priests, mentor them, support them. We need to always give them space to voice their concerns without this becoming a gossip blog. So I’m simply never going to gossip about anyone on a blog. As a Church we can do so much better by allowing the bear in everyone to shine. I’m sorry how you were treated, that wasn’t right .your building bridges in the community in the 1980s was exactly what Northern Ireland needed, pity your talent on that area wasn’t used, NI needed someone like you working in the community. Such is life. I don’t agree with the direction of your blog, the cartoon on Silverstream is offensive. The Bishop of Meath has done absolutely nothing wrong.

12.08: Pat, I like the fact that you are willing to view crises anywhere within the Church with a less judgmental style. You can be part of the demolition of secretive and destructive ways of dinful and criminally wrong church behaviour. You have highlighted much that was kept hidden. While I have found this exposing and demolition personally challenging and difficult, it is of paramount importance. What I dislike is the very unkind, nasty behaviour and intentions of some commenters whi take great liberty to advocate very ugly, violent and aggressive language against many chosen men who are clerics. All abuse and wrongdoing has to be called out. Trying to create mature dialogue and honest conversations may gave better results which are conducive to personal and communal renewal. I trust and hooe you may one day have thus as an issue to discuss particularly in light of men to men conversations taking place in countries after the tragic deaths of women. We must all challenge the many unquestioned stereotypes and caricatures we have in our DNA towsrds women and men.

11.48: Thank you Robert for this reasonable and balanced comment. I too have encountered very good, prayerful men at Silverstream. I regret developments of recent times in the priory but with God’s Spirit the monks will return to their committed way of life. This won’t be without trials or challenges. I agree with you that we must all seek better ways of being Christ and that pastors particularly need to return to a more faithful miinistry in Christ. Calling other men “effeminate” names, caricaturing men/priests in demeaning ways, tolerating a vindictive narrative against priest/sinners is not the way to elicit necessary renewal. Leaving aside our desire to want to crap some people to pieces, I wonder if as men we adopted a kinder, more respectful dialogue with each other, would we yield better fruits? I do not defend any moral transgressions or abuse of any kind and am horrified at any prose, narrative or social media outlet that facilitates a constant humiliating and pounding those who fail and who are fallen ignominiously or whose sins may be larger than others. In the extremes of criminal abuse and behaviour, where people are seriously hurt or damaged or lose their lives we must trust that the courts of the land enact swift justice.

“I do not defend any moral transgressions or abuse of any kind and am horrified at any prose, narrative or social media outlet that facilitates a constant humiliating and pounding those who fail and who are fallen ignominiously or whose sins may be larger than others.”

The issue here seems to be not the hounding of someone who has committed some secret sin, but the utter hypocrisy of Kirby (as a monk, a priest, a founder, a superior, and an alleged seer), his inability to own up to established facts about his sexual proclivities, and his continued presence among young impressionable men, with the express approbation of the Bishop of Meath, Thomas Deenihan.

Like

Frankly while the faithful are busy trying to minimize the potential effects of Kirby apparently having learned no hints of the absolute essential things from his years spent years in religious life, there are a few things which should automatically warn people against Silverstream:
The violations between internal and external forum.
A monk being ordained before being solemnly professed.
Kirby having to be told to stop kissing the monks good night.
And in case you’re going to make out that it is all resolved, don’t forget that the entire community have been formed by this guy, who makes a point of only taking aspirants who have not been religious elsewhere, and so will not have the experience to spot things that are wrong. Believe you me, we haven’t heard the last of Silverstream.

If Bishop Deenihan was smart and wanted to rid himself of Silverstream Priory, he should insist by Decree upon the celebration of the Eucharist at Silverstream is in accordance with the Novus Ordo.

Deenihan’s certainly no trad, nor do I mark him for an individual who would have much time for the “In Sinu Iesu” scam. Nor can I imagine that his Irish episcopal colleagues, or the other religious superiors of Ireland, appreciate the kind of Catholicism which Silverstream represents — a fringe, sectarian expression which the Successor of Peter himself means to bring back to the mainstream. Why, then, is Deenihan protecting Kirby and this community to such an extent?

Robert Nugent is sincere in his desire for authentic Catholicism. However, he fails to appreciate that Silverstream and its synchronistic Benedictine spirituality is not authentic. Moreover, there are legitimate questions about Kirby’s background that need to be answered, and the silence of the Diocese of Meath is not helping the situation. The visitation ordered by Bishop Deenihan was overseen by an abbot who was a frequent visitor to a gay sauna, Purcell; the other abbot, Coffey of Glenstal, presides over a community that is notorious. Remember, Glenstal produced Gregory Collins who recklessly decided to enter a gay relationship with a Palestinian man while in Jerusalem. These are the two abbots that gave Silverstream a clean bill of health. Silverstream is an exemplar of why the Irish Church is in such a horrific state.

I had been wondering when the Carmelite monastery would explode in the media for some time. There have been concerns expressed by people (including Carmelites) who wondered how Carmelite their life really was, since they observed elements of other monastic traditions and the absence of some things essential to the Carmelite charism.
There isn’t anything wrong with starting something new but you must present it as such and certainly not present a public association of the faithful as if it is an established Carmelite monastery.
Come to think of it, I thought Carmelite men were friars not monks, but whatever.

That Dom Kirby was a teacher of Father Daniel Mary of the Wyoming Carmelites, presumably at Holy Apostles Seminary in Connecticut (during its very “gay” phase in the 1990s) is a very interesting development, as there are several clear parallels between the two communities.

I am glad that the subject of the diocese of Tulsa has come up here. I am from that diocese, and I did visit the little group on a few occasions for Mass. They were using then the TLM but with some interesting modifications, like using a multiyear lectionary in English and praying some of the Office according to Episcopalian Prayer Book translations.
Father Kirby always struck me as a bit too dramatic and flamboyant, even to the point of a campy effeminacy, which is one of the reasons I did not visit more than I did. It did not sit right with me. I am not homophobic, but it was all just a bit too much. Maybe others find that kind of personality endearing, but I do remember being disturbed. It was all about him, his blog, his vision, his foundation. That’s definitely not the Rule of St. Benedict as I understand it: St. Benedict never features himself; his personality never ever gets in the way.
The monastic setup there was extremely odd and I remember being a bit concerned about oversight from the diocese. As a younger man I was a novice in a very large Benedictine abbey (I left to get married thanks be to God) and I remember being very concerned about how loose and undisciplined it all was. The community did not answer to any larger monastic entity (like a congregation in the Benedictine Confederation), and that by design.
I met the now Father Anderson once, I think, while he was visiting for a retreat from Colorado. I think he was a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church at the time. and in fact on the cusp of being ordained in that church; I remember being a bit surprised when he joined later. I am very grieved to hear what has transpired with him. He left a priestly vocation in the Orthodox Church for THIS mess?
There was also as a very young man named Bro Thomas; I think he was a convert from Nebraska. He was extremely childlike and immature, and I do remember being very alarmed by the way that Fr. Kirby interacted with him. He seemed to hover over him like a mother hen in a very sickly manipulative way. Later I heard from a priest of the diocese that there was some very bizarre incident between Thomas and Kirby; Thomas ran away from the monastery for several days. It was kept very quiet, though Fr. Anderson would have been there at the time, and I understand that there was a priest who worked for ICEL making a retreat there while this all occurred.
I had also heard from the same Tulsa priest that Kirby’s departure from Tulsa was very odd. On the eve of it, the community reduced by half, as two novices either left or were summarily dismissed (I don’t fully remember). It was not very clear, either, if Kirby began his discussions with the Diocese of Meath with the blessing or approval of Bishop Slattery. It would seem that he just up and left without permission. I also vaguely remember some sort of financial transparency issue between Bishop Slattery and Kirby; again, clearly, another “preview of coming attractions” in Ireland.
In summary I am very grieved by what has happened with Silverstream but given my experiences of the community when it began in Tulsa, I am not in the least bit surprised. I just hope and pray, through the intercession of St. Benedict, that it’s all sorted out by the Church in fairness and justice towards all, especially Fr. Andersen, whose life seems to have been destroyed because of his choice (innocent of course) to associate with Fr. Kirby.

Addendum:

Addendum:

The mysteriousness of Fr. Kirby’s past always confused me. Apparently he was a Cistercian somewhere in Canada, but had spent many years before this in Connecticut, and then at the very ill-fated and notorious Abbey of Santa Croce in Rome (the one suppressed by Pope Benedict for egregious moral violations). No explanation was EVER given for why Kirby had not been in his monastery of profession for many years. I asked some priests in the diocese and they were all as confused as I was about it, but they counseled me to keep my distance. And so I did.

On 15th December 2021, Pope Francis granted Richard Geoghegan’s petition, meaning that he is no longer a priest.
I wish to acknowledge and thank Richard for his pastoral ministry over the years and wish him well for his future.”
But yesterday Richard Geoghegan posted the following on Twitter:
“I entered seminary in 1987 at the age of 19.
I was ordained in 1993 at the age of 25:
On 7/1/22 I was officially dismissed by ROME.
On Friday 14/01/22 my Bishop was happy to dispense me.
I’m a good man.
And he talks about the shortage of vocations.”

Don Kirby, in Tulsa, helped create an utterly dysfunctional order of faux Benedictine nuns under the leadership of a clearly mentally ill woman called Rosalind Moss, who styles herself “Mother Miriam OSB”.

She had no knowledge of Benedictinism and adopted the identity merely for the aesthetics of the traditional habit.

Like Silverstream, her “group” (usually just her with a brow-beaten novice in tow) were run out of Tulsa on a rail by the new ordinary and after many adventures they’ve found themselves in the middle of nowhere in Kansas.

“Mother Miriam OSB” has a broadcasting grift going with both “Lifesitenews” and YouTube, peddling paranoid masochistic fantasies about “end times persecution” (the usual melange of homosexuals, Democrats, vaccines, “Bergoglio”) to credulous trads.

For a taste, search for “Mother and Refuge of the End Times” for a taste of the madness that is Mother Miriam.

Again, this gift to the Universal Church is all the handiwork of Dom Kirby. 👌 🤡

It sounds to me like Richard was forced. Seminary / Bishops like to play the game of “go of your own accord, or we will make you go”. The inference is that if you leave of your own accord, you can leave “in good standing”. The other option is that the Bishop opens a case and the congregation for clergy makes a ruling on it. It is unlikely that Rome will ever disagree with a Bishop thus leading them to forcibly laicise Richard.
Richard may have followed the protocols even if he did so unwillingly. It is clear from his post that he did not want to leave. It sounds like the Bishop is telling half-truths.

I’m sorry, I know Dom Benedict quite well. I am privileged to call him a friend. What you write is utter and complete garbage. Shame on you, Mr Nugent.

If your account of things is so right and reasonable, why have you deleted all your tweets trashing his reputation?

How can Dom Benedict be a “an intelligent and kind priest” but also a dishonest grifter? How does that work, Mr Nugent?

The only thing he ever indicated to you (I have the screenshots as well) is that he was able to take Mass intentions. He did not directly ask for money. It is not a crime for a poor priest to tell someone he thought was a friend that he can take Mass intentions.

Note also that at the time Abbot Brendan Coffey, as superior of Silverstream, was threatening to cut off his already meagre sustenance. That situation would be enough frighten anyone just thrown out into an unprecedented worldwide pandemic.

Father Benedict’s parents are not wealthy and have taken a huge hit because of Silverstream’s refusal to provide a living sustenance.

Also, you misrepresent your relationship to Silverstream. At one time, you were an Oblate, and you may still be. This is considerably more involved than “I just went there for Latin Mass”.

Shame on you. Shame, shame, shame.

Would you care to actually answer the content of the post, Robert?
Is it such a crime for a priest monk under a vow of poverty (someone you also admit to be a decent individual), unsupported by his community, to ask a friend if he has a Mass intention for him?
Does he deserve to be hounded by the likes of you on social media, you who claim never to gossip about anybody online?
You’ve damaged this man’s reputation, “an intelligent and kind priest”. That’s detraction, at best, my friend, a mortal sin.

Yes I heard the above from Rick Yoder. I’m sorry for his financial problems. But can’t you see it from my perspective? He had his own PayPal account in august 2020, months after he made accusations of financial fraud in Silverstream and when auditors questioned the account (which they were unaware of), hey presto he transfers money back to Silverstream, money appeared. What am I honestly supposed to make of all this? He is the only priest who has ever asked me for mass intentions. So I honestly ask, how was I supposed to digest all this? He involved me.

I would not take Gary Michael Voris’ supposed revelations as having much standing. Even his faithful, led by a gay man who calls people like himself sodomites (I do not think he distinguishes between the celibate and active gay, or seems not), were mocking the claims. Perhaps all the young men with hair like him (see his old videos if they exist still), applauded. The bits I read make it seem like an over-fragile lay brother who failed to grasp that ‘ora et labora’ is a real thing. If only an agency builder could have a vocation. Yet, these Wyoming Carmelite do however seem very impatient. Great monasteries are the work of decades, even centuries. Working a man till he cannot manage even a few Pater Nosters (a old simple Office is the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, that perfect prayer, again and again) is not wise. This is meant to be a Carmel, not a gulag.

I would remind people St Michael’s Media was seed funded by Marc Brammer, an Opus Dei supernumerary. The archdiocese of Detroit banned Church Militant (old name RealCatholic.tv) from call themselves Catholic. And Opus Dei never put their ‘brand’ on any schools or other undertaking they operate or own (like the CMTV HQ). Whenever Spain has a Popular Party government, Opus Dei supernumeries and cooperators seem like half the cabinet. And, by the bye, pictures do exist, not all very old, of Gary and his old ‘husband.’ He did panic some years ago that the New York archdiocese was going to out him, and so he did that himself, when most likely they barely know of his existence.

Some of the usual people seem to be promoting the Silverstream shop, Cenacle Press, which in fairness is useful as it has US or UK printed matter without the pile of postage or customs. They seem a bit ‘radio silent’ in recent times, without streamed Mass or Office on Youtube, and after a year only now posted to promote the Rosary beads that they make. I like the Penal Rosary crucifix. It is concerning that Dom Mark is in Silverstream (where in effect he will be either prior or a sort of co-prior with a group around him) and Fr Andensen is still in a sort of US exile.

I might have said before I heard a sermon preached by Dom Mark. It used very fine language spoken in a fruity tone, but after a bit I got the impression was saying very little in ornate terms.

I’m not sure +Pat will be able to have too much influence on +Deenihan. I think some Churchmen take pride in ignoring any online Vox populi, that is, bloggers and commenters, even when they are making an overall reasonable point. +Pat was mentioning some horses and their odds. It would probably be a somewhat reasonable thing to bet that Dom Mark will start slowly to creep in from the darkness. I wonder if Paddy Power would take a bet on that.

I did, as much of Voris stuff as I can endure. The poor darling was too tired to pray. Voris is still following the thrash traditionalist agenda of Marc Brammer, investor and Opus Dei Supernumerary. Rather than go after big beasts like the gay Benedictines of St John’s Abbey Collegeville, this small community is attacked for its ambition and drive. I looked again, and it’s piss poor CM stuff. Sex trafficking? Bunch of crap. Anyhow, this’ll be over soon, as Gary’s former husband John Fitzgerald Mola appeared in what’s hinted to be a very gay themed video from 1997, if not a gay porn. Moreover this vid from a time when Gary was actively gay is still under CM copyright. Mike Parrott is gonna get his hands on that through a writ of discovery. If it is anything, Voris is gonna have get on his knees, not in the gay way he used to, but beg or buy the forgiveness of a man who continually mocked and riled this fake rad trad (once had a policy of never criticising Pope Francis, now every other article on CM is an attack). After the bathroom wars (counter claims over who had the more humble and Catholic bathroom) this could get real.

@ Concerned Okie I didn’t hound him. I got angry by his latest media articles and I voiced my views. I didn’t ask to get involved. Fr. Benedict involved me. He was getting hundreds of dollars a month into the account for us. To be clear I was happy to help and so were others. I’m an ex Legionary of Christ and by God I won’t suffer being fooled a 2nd time, not after Fr. Maciel. Fr. Benedict needs to move on, if he is unhappy with anything I’m saying here then sue me. Take me to court.

Mr Nugent, your account is this is hopelessly mangled; whether purposely or through some kind of personal difficulty on your part, it’s very hard to say.

All of this was explained to you fully a YEAR ago and in great detail by the individual who was then representing Dom Benedict. It was explained to you by email, as well as publicly on Twitter, more than once, by the same representative. Yet here you are once again!

The whole matter was investigated thoroughly and settled in Dom Benedict’s favor by Abbot Brendan Coffey, an individual who is no friend of Dom Benedict.

If you have any lingering doubts about the situation, I suggest you contact Abbot Coffey. But, then again, this has already been suggested to you, multiple times, and you still spew the same mangled tale, in order to ruin the reputation of an individual who made a credible complaint about a man whom you think miraculously healed your daughter.

The occasion of Mr Nugent’s appearance on this blog was his taking up a public position on the ministry of acolyte exercised by lay people without displaying any knowledge of Pope Francis’ Spiritus Domini.

The testimony of Dom Andersen hasn’t been doubted from anything I’ve seen. The diocese didn’t think the threshold of abuse had been met. The harassment was subsequently reported to the Gardaí. Seemed to be an action of a bishop covering his own back.
