MY CHALLENGE TO ROBERT NUGENT ABOUT SILVERSTREAM AND MARK KIRBY AND THE ABUSE SUFFERED BY FATHER BENEDICT.

Dear Robert,

I am very glad we met and I am looking forward to working with you to eradicate bullying and adult sexual abuse in the Church and priesthood.

For 30 + years I have been alone in this work and ministry. “It is not good for a man to be alone”.

But in my opinion, there is one big fly in your aiontment – the situation in Silverstream with which you are involved and the ongoing isolation and abuse of the whistleblowing monk Dom Benedict Andersen

DOM BENEDICT CELEBRATING MASS FOR ROBERTS FATHER

Dom Benedict regards you as one of his co- abusers.

Benedict never accused Dom Kirby of sexually assaulting him.

But he did accuse him of inappropriate sexual grooming and harassment. He also asserts that Dom Kirby insisted on recounting to him various sexual experiences he, Dom Kirby, had.

This behaviour in a monastery and between a superior and a monk is highly irregular and is a massive breach of trust and duty of care.

It is also abuse!

To this day Benedict is excluded from his monastery, isolated, in receipt of little or no living expenses and is classed as a canonical leper.

He also lacks a letter asserting that he is a priest in good standing which prevents him having a ministery and in a position to earn a living.

Bishop Deenihan says he cannot give such a letter as Silverstream is opposing its granting.

Robert, you are very closely connected to Silverstream. In fact you were an oblate there and as such a external member of the community.

You had / have a good relationship with Dom Kirby, you admire him and indeed credit him with the healing of a family member.

Dom Benedict claims that you have publicly criticised him on social media and thereby contributed his stress and isolation.

It is very good that we are going to be working together on bullying in the Church and priesthood and the sexual abuse of adults in the Church and priesthood.

But here is Benedict who has suffered like that in a place you are / were close to.

Can I ask you to look carefully at what has happened, and what is happening, to Benedict – and address that as part of our new ministry.

You and I have stated publicly that we gave a number of significant differences.

You are biased in favour of Silverstream and Dom Kirby.

I sincerely believe, on evidence shown to me that Dom Benedict is a victim.

No one is saying Benedict is perfect.

But he is a Silverstream victim and has been further victimised by people like Abbot Brendan Coffey ex Abbot Richard Purcell and Bishop Deenihan.

THE ANNIVERSERY OF THE MURDER OF JOSEPH PIKE BY BROTHER LANE IN TRALEE 1958.

On this day an orphan boy, Joseph Pike was murdered by the Christian Brother Lane in St Joseph’s Tralee, Kerry.

He was buried in a hidden grave.

His remains were later moved to the town cemetery.

The priests refused him a funeral Mass or to bless the grave.

When I went some years ago to say Mass at the grave the clergy locked the cemetery gates and we had to get ladders to climb over the wall.

RIP Joseph Pike and all the other children murdered and tortured in Irish Concentration Camps.

Gardai to Quiz St Joseph’s Inmates

By Simon Brouder

http://www.kerryman.ie/news/gardai-to-quiz-st-josephs-inmates-1875669.html

A MAJOR garda investigation into the physical and sexual abuse of children at Tralee’s notorious St Joseph’s Industrial School is now underway, The Kerryman can reveal.

Senior gardai from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, who are investigating revelations contained in the Ryan Commission Report, are due to interview a number of former inmates of St Joseph’s in the coming weeks The Ryan Commission Report detailed horrific physical and sexual abuse of boys, perpetrated by 12 Christian Brothers, in the Tralee school in the 30 years prior to its closure in 1970.

A special garda unit, set up by Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern, following publication of the report is now investigating abuse committed in Kerry. Though the 12 brothers who carried out the majority of the abuse at St Joseph’s were not named in the Ryan Commission report it’s known that all but one are still alive. They are understood to be the primary focus of the new investigation.

Several former inmates of St Joseph’s, including the longest serving inmate John Prior whose early testimony about abuse in church run schools helped expose the scandal, have been contacted by gardai and will be interviewed in the coming weeks.

The former inmates assisting the investigation are currently residing in Kerry and Cork.

A major plank of the St Joseph’s investigation is expected to be the death of 16-year-old school inmate Joseph Pike. Pike died in the mid 1960’s just a few days after allegedly being brutally beaten by a brother for eating too slowly.

The special garda unit, commanded by Assistant Commissioner Derek Byrne Ireland’s highest ranked operational commander, has been tasked with investigating claims contained in the Ryan report to assess if criminal proceedings can be brought against the perpetrators of the abuse.

Pat, you are directly challenging Robert about his contribution to the past and on-going abuse of Dom Benedict. Let’s call a spade a spade. Why did Robert remove references to Dom B from his twitter a/c? Why is he pro Dom Kirby? Why is Robert now so enraged about bullying and abuse among seminarians, past and present? How can both of you cooperate together in a matter requiring a respect for each other’s bona fides when you have such divergent views and when you now identify the “fly” in Robert’s ointment?

I am very sorry for what has happened. I have the highest regard for everyone in the Monastery. I have to admit I do not know all the facts and I’m praying there will be closure I apologise for any hurt caused to Dom Benedict. The Black and white photo above I took when Dom Benedict said requiem mass for my Father, (which he offered to do and I didn’t pay him for it). Dom Benedict has always treated me with upmost kindness and respect and I do hope there can be closure, but that is for others to decide, I don’t know all the facts.

Silverstream has been an incredibly positive place and Dom Benedict himself has said there are very good men there.

This will be the last post I ever right about this topic. People know my biases on this after what happened with my daughter. I leave it to La Madre Iglesia, To Mother Church to lead us forward. As men its vital to talk things out and not run away from problems. Praying for Dom Benedict and closure to this.

Its very easy to destroy and it takes years to build. I beg everyone to find a way forward, our Church desperately needs her sons working to good.

Robert,
That’s a politician’s reply to the points Pat makes. You are dodging the issues and avoiding addressing the central claim, that you took sides against Dom Benedict and subsequently disparaged him online. Either you accept that he’s a victim or not. Which is it?

Like

What else can I say? I’m too biased to see this and I don’t know all the facts (and I don’t need to know them) I let others make this decision. I know well what I did and all I can do is apologise. I am not taking any side. Nobody heals a situation by hurting others. So I ask that people talk about their problems calmly. Dom Mark is one of the kindest priests I know, and Dom Benedict is a good man. So as to not take sides I have removed myself from this and I apologize to Dom Benedict with all my heart for the hurt he has felt. But the only way forward is dialogue, peace and prayer. What more can I say? I have no agenda, nobody asked me to post any of this, nobody counselled me to meet Pat Buckly, nobody paid me to go, I would kindly ask for clearer heads to work on this.

9.35, you only need one clearer head and you should be asking God for it not us. Kirby is not quiet, the pattern is evident.
You need to satisfactorily resolve your connections abroad. This is already dialogue from us and it is already peace from us. The prayer is part of my Our Fathers and Glory Be’s.

The Roman church was no proper cause for intensity when it was good. If you’re not going to refer to your ramblings which you twice brought Dom BA AND the priory’s money affairs into, how can we “talk things out”? You need to slow down, stop with the ambiguity and the inaccurate colloquialisms, mind map your comments and videos beforehand, cut them short.
God is serious and He works. But He doesn’t do intensity. The intensity is not a fly, it is corrosive and no ointment. Responsible employees and parents with dyslexia (I know a great deal about this) are doing something about it. Responsible employees and parents whose brains were addled by bad movements are doing something about it (the few that want to).
You have got Legionnaire’s Disease and Kirby is your new Legion idol. God healed your daughter and not Kirby. Kirby promotes and cultivates the appearance of irregularity including by personages / institutions outside Ireland (whom he considers he has “influence” over, we wonder why). He is not a quiet person and you have got to focus. Are you trying to rival Dom BA as to who was worse damaged by Kirby? Kirby is not your daughter.
I am telling things as I’ve seen them because I dropped out of the P2 myself. I am finding the cool, calm Buck web site informative in its context. I am also of mixed origin and we need to look after ourselves.
You spell well. Any time you write a few sentences, change the order of the sentences then cut phrases out. Same for the pre prepared scripts for your videos. Easy does it – but do it. God helped you to make an unusual escape from bad training places so far, so thank Him.

I am really tired of this tiresome, holier that thou Robert Nugent. His apologies are half hearted. He should publicly apologies for social media gaslighting of Dom A – if he wasn’t in possession of all the facts, as he readily admits, then he has no business in posting on twitter.
Ok so he has apologised for any hurt he caused but the fact remains that Dom A reached out to him only to be greeted with being undermined and that undermines Robert Nugents, newfound crusade for men who have/ are being abused by the church.
He failed at the first hurdle – someone was being harassed and abused and needed help and Robert Nugent contributed to that abuse without being in possession of the facts
It’s possible for people to have road to Damascus experiences so perhaps Robert has changed from abuser to God- appointed crusader on behalf of the abused but I seriouly doubt this man’s capacity for rational thought or reasonable behaviour.
This man admitted, in his first P files video (edited after it was first published) that his family and he were afraid for their lives because of threats made against them. He admits to letting his children watch videos in which he feels afraid and asks for prayer – a video in which he openly refers to men jacking off in front of porn – these are hardly the actions of a responsible father and undermine his ability to discern what is appropriate.
Pat my advise would be to cooperate with Robert Nugent but to challenge him robustly on his findings and conclusions. I imagine that he is not a man who will be prepared to be challenged and there may well be tears before bedtime.

6.50: I admire Robert in his ministry outreach to men by way of helping them in positive, pastoral and spiritual ways. I am beginning to believe that Robert is very vulnerable despite his passionate self defense. I cannot believe some of the content of his videos is being watched by his children! I think its very wrong for him to subject his family to any possible harm, which he does not deserve and which is abhorrent. I beg himself and Pat to dialogue in private instead of all this publicity. I said recently that this matter being discussed in its present intensity will end badly as yet for one or both of the protagonists. I hope not but the indications are ominous. Now might be the time for prayer and reflection.

@jezusufamtobie or Robert if you prefer – That statement about your children not watching the videos contradicts your ORIGINAL Window to Hell video in which you clearly stated that you and your children were afraid and you clearly stated that your children watched the videos. Edited because perhaps someone has already alerted you to the foolishness of making such a claim.
I genuinely hope you and your family remain safe – we do live in evil times.
You might well deny that claim after the video has been edited but I know what I saw and heard – you are now denying that – frankly any claim you make from now onward will have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Pat, why do you only mention Abbot Coffey and former Abbot Purcell? Wasn’t there a third member, namely Gearoid Dullea, who was appointed a Monsignor a few years ago (someone correct me, but was he appointed a monsignor before or after the Vatican said there’d be no more Monsignors). He is relatively young and you seem to airbrush him quite a bit from the Silverstream stuff. He belongs to +Deenihan’s former diocese. Presumably he wishes he was never on that infamous Visitation team since any member of that list must surely be at the bottom of the pile of ‘prospective bishops’ in the Nunciature.

Hey, looks like Cardinal Marx has finally caught up with what the rest of us already knew, and what the clergy have for a long time thought of as optional ! We know from this blog and from other sources just how much celibacy is observed in the breach as it is in the observance, by most clergy. Also that for most clergy it is a very damaging way of life and culture leading them in to dysfunction, duplicity, double lives and plain lying. The sooner it is ditched, certainly as a mandatory requirement for ordination, the better. We will all be better off, happier and healthier. Including clergy. And for those clergy who currently take their promise of celibacy in a flexible and option way, well at least they can then consider themselves to have been trailblazers, setting the tone, trailblazers, and ‘avant gard’ ! I guess the gay boys amongst the clergy will still have to wait a while until their preferences are accepted, but in the meantime I’m sure they will still indulge in their predilections. As long as it keeps them happy, I suppose … ?!

Like

Ex-Bishop Kieran Conry was well ahead of his time, a trail blazer. Mind you, he was not just content with one. He was in to multiple partners, often at the same time. Must have been exhausting trying to do the day job and keep a clutch of women happy at the same time. Maybe celibacy does have its attractions after all ?!

Like

I don’t think celibacy should be optional, it should be abolished. Then we can suggest a nice wife for Father so that he is forced to experience what he is avoiding by pretending to be celibate.

Like

“Married Candidates:
The Church is concerned that there should be no potential for conflict between the responsibilities of ordained ministry and the need of a couple in the early years of their married life to devote their time and energy to maturing in their relationship and to caring for young children. For that reason, a married man must have reached the age of thirty five before he can be ordained to the permanent diaconate. He must also have the formal consent of his wife.
Unmarried Candidates:
Unmarried candidates must have reached the age of twenty five before they can be ordained as permanent deacons. In keeping with the tradition of the Church, those who are ordained as single men make a solemn promise of celibacy.”
If celibacy becomes optional, the permanent diaconate rules could be extended to the priesthood.

Robert Nugent’s response at 9:35 am is almost laughable.
“i don’t know all the facts ( and I DON’T NEED TO KNOW THEM)
No – don’t have all the facts and profess a not needing to know them and get stuck in there. How impartial and rational is that. Wow!!!
The P files youtube channel claims ‘ The truth will set you free even if the truth is revolting‘ – For that to work you need to know the facts before you shoot a man down in your questionable quest for the truth.
This all really bodes well for his role as a God -directed champion of the bullied and harrassed.
Dom A is currently in a state of limbo – will Mr Nugent be actively championing to help him being reinstated or petitioning Silverstream to help resolve the issue. No – he’s not taking sides on this one. So not much of a champion of the bullied and harassed after all. FAIL!
Nobody heals a situation by hurting others – that’s just not true. Jesus was able to wound the pride of the pharasees – he called them out on their hypocrisy. I’m calling Robert Nugent out on his.
Quoting the last line from the same post. “I Would kindly ask for a clear head to work on this. “ I’m assuming, Robert that you admit that you don’t have a clear head about this issue. Fair enough – I can understand that – but I question your ability to have a clear head about any of the issues you get ramped up about lately. I refer to your video on your YouTube channel last night. You present as a man who is passionate but perhaps a little unstable.
Consequently, I question your ability to rationally champion the cause of Michael Deegan without causing more hurt. Leave that to Pat. He’s better at these difficult issues
You will perhaps, accuse me of gaslighting you. I can’t gaslight what is plain to see. The blog readers can make up their own mind.

Pat – would a letter of good standing even make a difference at this point, given that Deenihan, Silverstream and Robert Nugent have already done a hatchet job on him. Wherever he goes he will be known as the silverstream whistleblower and rather than be welcomed as a man of integrity he will be shunned regardless of said letter.

I’m not entirely clear why you’re getting the coroner’s report because it will either say the seminarian killed himself (usually if he left a note) or will not say that.
I gather from comments yesterday that it is supposed pressure was exerted on the coroner not to call his death suicide.
However obviously the coroner won’t say that so I really can’t see what the report will prove.
S far better indicator that you’ve lighted on something somebody would far rather have buried is the reaction on here, the fact that the seminary records are missing and the threat of trying to get Robert’s kids taken off him.
I don’t think the next scandal will be bullying in seminary, I think it will be the retaliation and abuse of anyone seeking the truth. Don’t get me wrong – even if nothing can be ultimately proved about what happened to the poor seminarian the retaliation will be another valuable piece of evidence of what the church is actually about. Perhaps while Fr. Andersen waits for the authorities of the Vatican II cult to sort out his situation he should consider getting some revenue from writing. I recently read his work on the S.Tikhon’s Liturgy and was amazed by his depth of knowledge of the Anglican background of the same.

His consideration of ++Cranmer is quite valuable as well as his guidance through the labyrinthine passages of Anglican liturgical development. He has not only read but has inwardly digested his material, as it were.

He even reminded me of the Non-Jurors’ Liturgy of 1718 as well as Bishop Rattray of the Scottish Church. Both attempted to “Orthodoxize” the Anglican Services. +Rattray tried to “endow” his parishioners with his expurgated S. James Liturgy and a vastly reduced Eastern Mattins and Vespers. Those good folks would have none of it because they were unfamiliar services and told the Bishop so in no uncertain terms. Ah, the uox plebis Dei in action!

I do see a positive future for Father since he has that teacher’s ability to present difficult concepts in a clear and pleasant manner.

Great comment, Seraphim. I just looked it up, and you can read a good deal of Fr Anderson’s work on Academia.edu.
To think Silverstream just threw this guy out, like yesterday’s rubbish, because he dared to stand up for himself — though there is a certain naïveté in thinking that reporting something to a Roman Catholic bishop will end up in justice being served.
Honestly, though I am sure it hurts for Fr Anderson, they probably did him a favour. Any community that would destroy Anderson to salvage the likes of Kirby is a total sham.
If Anderson had any practical sense, he’d leave the entire RCC behind and shake the dust from his feet. Given his expertise in Anglicanism, he might even consider going there?

Absolutely so, 4:56. I have been critical of RN here concerning Silverstream, but RN’s family is off-limits. These people are demons.

Silverstream’s criminality here is not simply the withholding of a letter of good standing; it’s the apparent attempt to financially starve him into submission and out of priesthood and monastic life. In many ways the abuse now is far worse than what was going on in the monastery. This is classic, classic RCC™️. If Mister Nugent doesn’t recognise this, or doesn’t want to recognise it, he has absolutely no business setting himself up as a moral crusader against church abuse.

I have some questions about the tragic death of Michael Deegan RIP in Thurles Seminary, which is now linked to this row about RN and Silverstream.
The bullying of Michael Deegan should absolutely be investigated and the guilty held to account, but do we know for sure it lead to the suicide? (I know may have contributed to it, if he was already at the edge, but that’s not the same thing as causing it)
Was Michael the only one subject to these type of stupid nasty stunts or significantly more often than the others were?
A lot of people are claiming Michael was Gay, what is the evidence for this?
Was he bullied by heterosexuals because he was Gay, or homosexuals because he was not Gay enough? What is the evidence of his tormentors sexuality playing a part in this?
We need to be careful here we uncover as many actual proven facts as possible.

Like

Nice try, ‘father’. Out here in the real world putting porn under someone’s door and sexy notes on their bed, is harassment regardless of the target’s orientation.
And incidentally harassment is illegal.

And just as a hint, talking about Michael’s alleged sexual orientation in an attempt to minimize his trauma and the offence is right up there with saying how much children enjoy being sexually abused.

Pat and Robert it’s increasingly clear you’re on to a big one here.

6.16: I agree with you. Robert and Pat should continue to seek full truth and justice re: Michael. There is a problem with the exchange of commentary and information being shared, asked for and the dissection of that information. None of us are experts in clinical investigations and the continuance of this issue is eliciting horrible opinions. Is there a case now for this issue to be given completely to An Gardai? Surely any further speculating, commenting, name referencing and innuendo may prejudice a professional investigation? I also agree with you that harrassment, bullying and intimidation is totally unacceptable especially when forced in a person against their wishes and when used for the purpose of destroying another person. There is at times in this blog a tolerance of harrassment, bullying and intimidation against named individuals. Perhaps we each need to evaluate our conscience.

Michael was not gay but apparently targeted by a gay cabal. It does appears to have been a genuine case of targeting someone. These men who targeted him may be moral cowards but I doubt they’d ever be found guilty of manslaughter.

I watched R Nugents latest video and it does make for uncomfortable listening but I’m not sure it constitutes systemic bullying – rather the kind of antics that one would expect to find in an all male environment like boarding schools and seminaries at the time. ( that doesnt make it right but such behaviour was normalised.) We live in more enlightened times one would hope.

I was in Maynooth in the mid 80’s early 90’s and all sorts of silly and sometimes dangerous pranking would go on – and the tales of drunken staff were legendary – both my Moral and Dogmatic theology lecturers were more fond of the bottle than was seemly – both has ‘spots’ in the local pub. The Roost. and that would be the tip of the iceberg.

Curiously, as I gay man, I don’t remember any gay cliches – the place was distinctly heteroaexual. I’m not saying gay men weren’t in Maynooth but they certainly were not in the ascendancy.

Going back to Nugents letter. Such information might be useful but unless the sender of that and other letters comes forward to make a statement and can back that statement up with times and dates – it’s pointless.

Like

6.26pm. I was in Maynooth around the same time as you (we may even be from the same class, lol) and I remember the pranks, whether it be the fire hose being used in Rhetoric, phone pranks, hurling in Long Corridor, throwing food in the ref and the mucking about that apparently went on in Donal McMahon’s classes. The staff and student drinking was wild, but with the students it mostly occurred in Dublin on Sundays. I don’t remember it in the rooms and the village pubs and the SU were out of bounds.
There was a strong boarding school atmosphere around the place, which wasn’t that surprising, given that a big chunk of the student population had been boarders in the diocesan colleges not long before coming to Maynooth and much of the living arrangements resembled a large boarding school at the time. There were nearly 350 resident sems in my time, nearly all of whom had huge personalities, so there was quite a vibe to it.
I agree with you about the firmly heterosexual atmosphere then. Plenty of sems left because they got girlfriends and if there was any gay sex happening it was extremely well hidden. Frank Duhig kicked out anyone he suspected was gay, though his gaydar was sometimes defective.

Pat you have challenged Robert N in today’s blog. Why aren’t you challenging him to answer your questions?
Or is it just giving the impression that you are challenging him on his stance.
Robert needs to make reparation. I can understand the human inclination not to want to get involved in a situation in which he holds some of the men of Silverstream in high esteem but he simply cannot be taken seriously as a man attempting to address the issues of bullying and harassment when he is guilty of the same behaviour towards a man who was also bullied, harassed and scapegoated. The Church has been feminised since the high middle ages with the rise of “bridal mysticism.” In the New Testament, Jesus is compared to a bridegroom who’s going to come for his bride – his followers. The bride symbolizes the church as a whole.
But in the Middle Ages, female mystics, following the lead of Catholic thinkers like Bernard of Clairvaux, began developing an interpretation of the bridegroom/bride relationship as representing that which existed not only between Christ and the collective church, but Christ and the individual soul. Jesus became not only a global saviour, but a personal lover, whose union with believers was described by Christian mystics with erotic imagery. Men could not see themselves as the Bride of Christ so the priesthood was taken over by gay men as it was easier for them to see themselves as a Bride of Christ. That’s the gist of it anyway.

That can only be because he can’t answer those questions.
I’m now beginning to think that that might have been the intention – pose the question and let Robert expose himself for the sincere but misguided and hypocritical man he is.
He claims he is not on a mission or a crusade but in several of his videos he claims that he and Pat are going to sort out these issues in 2022. What is that if not a mission or crusade?
In his Window to Hell video, he suggests that he believes he is called to address these issues and prays to Our Lady and Our Lord for their help with this mission. in fairness, he also prays that he is making the right decisions – again this suggests, he sees his actions as some type of mission/vocation.
I don’t have a problem with him thinking that – he might even be right – but he has yet to answer just one legitimate question – How can he not see the hypocrisy of his championing the bullied and harassed in the church (which he loves) when he was the bully and harasser of a man who reached out to him for help – a member of that same church?

May I suggest you ask to meet him: he radiates in energy a goodness I have rarely encountered: I have no idea who you are but the gift of maturation is to be open to forever changing in mind whats possible and necessary to be close to the purpose of the human journey: meet Bishop Buckley. Its not so easy to access the rest of them !!

So you’re now saying men need to be attracted to church but all over a seminarian’s sexuality……
Meanwhile people are telling Robert Nugent that Pat Buckley will do something bad to him while asking about his kids and work….

The reason people don’t go to church is only ever so slightly obvious…..

The reason people don’t go to church Anglican, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, Mormon, Methodist, Free Presbyterian and lets not forget the Wee Wee Wee Wee Wee Free’s is become they no longer believe. Its more important on a Sunday morning to get wee dodger ready for the Rugby game and Samantha to be ready for her whirling practice, and poor mam and dad have a hangover from bone or snorting lines of dust so anyway and can’t be arsed. Fair play to them. They are the future. Tarrot Cards and Mystics galore. And lets not forget mediums so they can talk too the dead Granny

Robert Nugent reminds me of Niall McConnell from Donegal (see Youtube, or Google) They seem to be craving for attention. Robert seems to be dropping the anti-vaccine agenda and he is now onto something else. More popcorn please!

I don’t think you’re going to discredit or derail Robert and Pat’s campaign that handy. You’re not dealing with defenceless seminarians this time.
