THE LOVE OF JESUS v ROMANTIC AND EMOTIONAL LOVE

A number of people got very hot under the collar over yesterday’s Gospel and how this blog and myself are the anthitisis of that Gospel.

(Gospel
Luke 6:27-38
Love your enemies

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. To the man who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek too; to the man who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks can you expect? For even sinners do that much. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. Instead, love your enemies and do good, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great reward, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
‘Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge, and you will not be judged yourselves; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned yourselves; grant pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back.’)

Let me share a little story my Dad Jim used to tell is as children

A young man was being brought out to be hung for his horrific crimes. His mother decided to be present for the hanging. As she arrived the condemned man reached towards her. Think she was to receive his last kiss the mother leaned towards her son and he bit off her ear and then said to her: “If you had shown me proper love and discipline when you g, W would not be standing here today.

THE LOVE OF JESUS

The love of Jesus is not romantic or emotional love.

It is the love that is informed by Truth and Justice.

Jesus came to comfort the disturbed and to disturb the comfortable.

It has two sides to it – the side that heals and is compassionate and the side that challenges and strikes fear in those doing wrong.

We see the challenging and fearful love of Christ at play when he attacks the money changers in the Temple, whip in hand, when he devours the Pharisees for their hypocrisy and when he treats both Herod and Pilate with contempt.

Jesus love is not sissy love or effeminate love. His love is Divine and challenging.

He knows when to kiss and heal.

He knows when to declare war!

YESTERDAYS GOSPEL

Yes, Jesus does tell us to love our enemies and to pray for those who hate us.

And we must rise to that almost impossible challenge.

And it takes us time and Almighty Grace to help us travel the narrow road from hate to love.

And I think it’s a journey that takes time.

The challenge is allow the iceberg in my heart to melt so that the iceberg in my enemy’s heart will melt also.

But we clearly see from Jesus that his prescription for those who hurt little children is to have a stone tied around their neck and be thrown into the sea.

Let’s not insult the Truthful and Fearful Love of Jesus by suggesting that the solution for absolutely every situation is hugs, kisses, permissiveness and choclate and coco.

“Poor Father. Father has a problem. Pray for Father. Dont tell anyone what Father did to you in case it would cause scandal for his Church. Offer it up with Christ’s sufferings. Your abuse might be the very thing that gets you into heaven”.

Bullshit! Pious bullshit! Suicide Catholic bullshit!

You love a child abuser by reporting him to the police, bringing him to court and sending him to jail.

You love a serial sex abusing cardinal by dismissing him from the college of cardinals and the clerical state and letting him live under close supervision.

You love a Dom Kirby by calling out his sexual harassment of young monks and by removing him from the monastery in order to stop him continuing to abuse.

All of that is also TRUE LOVE, TOUGH LOVE, JESUS LOVE.

Jesus has something to say to those promoting emotional permissive love for wrong doing and wrong doers.

“Would that you either cold or hot. But you are lukewarm and I will spit you out of my mouth”.

Let’s start by giving the tender love to victims, the sick, the poor etc.

And then, after we have given the wrong doers tough love by calling them out – and when they have changed and promised not to hurt people again let us give them tender love too as they journey to rehabilitation and conversion of life and heart.

@1.23AM – the word vulnerable is used daily on Pat’s blog but what does this word mean? Those who don’t know here is its meaning:
Taking chances that might lead to rejection.
Talking about mistakes you have made.
Sharing personal information that you normally keep private.
Feeling difficult emotions such as shame, grief, or fear.
Reconnecting with someone you have fallen out with.

The “laics” / animators / operatives sent by the archdioceses, who have got more power than us or our local bishops, now invert the “tough love” concept. Me & my mates have been told – in almost these words – “God must think you are stupid, that’s why it’s His Swill that you get trolled by us”, whereby they are stealing first our time and then our personalities with their inappropriate “confidences”. 😦 It was a long time before we plucked up the goomp to drop out because we had been told that attitude was “catholic”. Perhaps it IS “catholic”.

I’m sorry Pat but you and I must have different definitions of vulnerable. Power was abused here but not these ‘young vulnerable’ men. Vulnerable is throw about too loosely these days.

10:03 yours is a horrible example of victim blaming & lack of empathy in defence of the lack of pastoral care provided to these young seminaries in Maynooth. They were badly let down by the system.

Like

They were failed by the system and their superiors but to call them victims is scandalous

Like

“Victim blaming” is another modern phrase to shift all responsibility from one side. If you are so ‘vulnerable’ (another overused term) that you either cannot defend yourself over a period of abuse or reach out over something you know to be wrong then you will never be an effective priest with the ability to identify right from wrong and speak out for justice. The average of seminarians has risen over the years and with that comes life experience.

Like

10:03, ah the good old victim blaming card. Never mind the namby pamby RCC, I know people who if they wanted to, could keep the likes of you in their basement wearing a gimp outfit, and you’d be powerless to do a thing about it. “Hard men” are the most fun to break in.

Pat, the comments so far are not exactly thought provoking…Sent one to you last night…why are you not posting it? It is meant to elicit discussion. Again I find two images on your blog – that of BS whose image resurrects my own abuse almost 60 years ago by a neighbour and which remains in my memory. The rope is too vivid and I know why you use it but in the past 2 tears, I’ve officiated at 9 deaths by sucide, including 2 friends and all by suicide….Think the rope imagery can trigger awful memories…That’s all I say.

Like

The images are not meant to be hurtful to anyone.

I too was abused 60 years ago.

Part of recovery is not being upset by images from life that are not intended to hurt.

How is a vertical noose not intended to hurt? Its purpose is to kill. Judicial execution is murder.

Like

Point understood but those images undoubtedly haunt and unsettle all who are abused and I do not believe reminders of any kind are firever necessary. My therapist did nit ever advise that i firever rummage through imagery. Part of healing is to let go of thse images and focus on only what is good within and find the inner strength required. That i have done over the years but certain imagery as of today, is, for me, very unfirtunate and unnecessary. Victims/survivors can often feel abused all over again by provocative, black and white and stark (rope) images.

Like

With all due respect, the world can’t ban all images that upset us who were abused. It is us who must recover – like a recovering alcoholic who can go into a pub and keep his sobriety.

The image of McCarrick / Uncle Ted with the teenage boy is very cringe making. McCarrick grinning like the cat that got the cream, and the boy evidently instinctively uncomfortable and embarrassed. The whole pose, with McCarrick grabbing him in towards him by the waist makes it clear that this is McCarrick commanding the situation. With hindsight, and knowing everything we do about this now, it is easy to see these things. But, to be honest, I think anyone looking at that 40 years ago will have instinctively known that everything was not as it should have been. So, why did they let it happen ? I guess it has to do with the prevailing belief, since blown clear out of the water, that this man McCarrick as a priest simply was incapable of doing anything that was wrong. The myth of priestly probity and not being doubted was still intact, such was the hold that the clerical culture had over people. It served clerics well for a long time, enabling them to be unquestioned and unaccountable. Thank God we have moved on from that. If this situation were presented today, I think all the alarm bells would start ringing. How naive we were. How misled we were. How manipulated we were. Thank God things have changed.

Tony has a point, initial reporting should come from victims and their families and friends. Reporting should always be made to authorities upon notice of any abuse towards anyone, by anyone.

He has a point alright. Any abuse or safeguarding concerns should be swiftly reported to the police. It’s no excuse however for bishops who have moved errant clergymen discreetly to other locations, putting more innocent people in harms way.

Article in the Sunday Times yesterday by Matthew Syed said RCC both benign and criminal organisation – that there exists at its very heart a wicked duality, not of wheat and tare but of criminal clergy v law abiding citizen – early estimates (echoing France of 216,000) of close to or over 1 million victims of clerical child abuse by Italian clergy in Italy.
His column suggested that we are growing indifferent to this particular banality of evil and this new and shocking statistic was barely registered by the worlds media.
1 million victims of clerical child abuse over 7 decades isn’t a crime it’s a Holocaust and Pope Francis detracts attention from this Crime Against Humanity right under his nose and the same with Argentina – too close to home?
The RCC priesthood has been exposed as an institution that attracts predatory child abusers, facilitates them and invests every fibre of its being in covering up this and many other crimes.

@12:26: Well it could depend on what one means by “Jesus.”
I am not aware of any reliable factual evidence that an individual called Jesus existed and acted as described in the New Testament. Indeed the lack of, particularly in contemporaneous Roman historical writings, inevitably raises doubts.
Additionally, if “real” refers to a human individual, who at same time was the Almighty Creator God, ……. well that’s for the fairies!
Much has been written by experts assessing whether or not a historical Jesus existed. The weight of opinion seems to doubt his actual existence, Put briefly and simply: is it likely that someone so supposedly significand and important has not been extensively recorded in contemporary, usually meticulous, Roman records, while the records most relied upon, the Gospels, were written long after his alleged death and by “followers” already subscribing to legends about the longed for Messianic saviour of oppressed Jewery.
In fact the story of Jesus and his doings appears in some ways to replicate similar previous accounts of divine/superhuman/other world beings.
Rather than the customary ad hominem retorts, I’d encourage those seeking truths to objectively study and weigh up the evidence. I have to recognise however, that objectivity in these matters seems to be in short supply, and easily swamped by embedded indoctrination processes.

Virtually all scholars of antiquity agree that the historical person Jesus of Nazareth existed.
‘no serious scholar has ventured to postulate the non-historicity of Jesus’ – Michael Grant, noted historian and atheist.
So his existence is not doubted, however what the historical scholars cannot agree on how many details of his life are historically proven.

Like

@ 7:46.Unlike many who make religious claims and insist they possess the truth,…… simply “insist” and refer to “faith” without supporting objective factual evidence, ……I prefer to rely on evidence.
Another significant difference is that I am always open to being proved wrong. In fact I welcome better information and evidence than my own. In fact my stance as an atheist is NOT to claim or insist that there is no God. It is, rather, to hold the position of saying that I see insufficient evidence for the claims of religion: kindly provide convincing evidence, for “faith” is NOT evidence, and the alleged “good works” of religion do not validate its underlying core claims.
So @ 7:46, may I invite you to provide sufficient information of the evidence put forward by “all the scholars of antiquity ” you refer to; not ALL , just sufficient to allow an objective appraisal.
You may find it of interest to refer to Raphael Lataster’s 2015 book “Jesus Did Not Exist: A Debate Among Atheists” This work is a summary of the main arguments, and reviews evidence, principally Ehrman’s 2012 work, “Did Jesus Exist”, and M Casey’s 2014 work, “Jesus: Evidence and Argument or Mythicist Myths” Lataster also references Richard Carrier’s 2014 work “On the Historicity of Jesus.”

So, I do not think that + Pat can be in any way connected to whatever happened to Stalford or his death. It does seem unusual for a man of Stalford’s age to die suddenly, and if it is not accidental then the likelihood is that he has died by his now hand. Why he would do so is still a matter of much speculation and is not clear, but whatever it is it will have been something that was preying very much on his mind and sanity. In the meantime, I think it is unfair to suggest that + Pat had anything to do with the circumstances of what might have led to this man’s death. He is perfectly entitled, as many people are already doing, to ask the question: “Why?” There already seems to be suggestions that there is a gay relationship / hidden sexuality / even blackmail associated with Stalford. 6.15: I agee with you Pat but we are beginning to receive some conflicting information about these viruses and the incredible billions now being given to large pharmaceuticals. Did RN say he did not receive the vaccine? There is something worth thinking about in the post from 6.12.

Dear Bishop Pat,

I find that you are often correct in matters of importance but on this instance you are wrong and I take no pleasure from saying this. I mean you no ill will.

As a matter of fact, you are a victim of the Main Stream Media mind manipulation that causes cognitive dissonance.

If I could be so bold as to gently invite you to listen to an expert, Meredith Miller, to explain how this works in practise. Please go to 4:16:30

There is no shame in being duped. If they can dupe you, who if I can describe as a non-conformist and critical thinker, then you can start to understand how their control system is so effective.

Can I encourage you to watch the deliberations of the Grand Jury from the beginning.

It will take a day or two to catch up but I believe it is worthwhile taking the time to learn.

Even if you just start with the Day 4 link above and go to the summary given by Judge Loui de Castro at 7mins in, where he repeats that the PCR test has been discredited as a fraud…

I maintain that getting up to speed on this truth is the most important thing you may do in your life, as the quicker we all come to the realisation of what is happening we can save thousands of children who so far remain un-jabbed.

Wishing you well in your task.

Take it easy,

Neil

A large number of people have not taken the vaccine for perfectly legitimate reasons. I hope no one is suggesting censoring people based on their vaccine status especially since this is a space for non-vaccine related issues.

Respectfully, they are not. For a myriad of reasons people choose not to have a vaccine….some one might be given to understand, some not…. Novak Djokovic is a very rational thinking man. There is a censured silence on medics and the scientific community who have chosen not to take it. Any GPs in the Repubic of Ireland who did not go with the permitted narrative were quickly silenced… and punished.

Poor RN – one reflection I had about his posts was his overshare about ‘porn and masturbation’ was revealing, in that, Catholic Cult victims – Opus Dei, Neo-Cat, Charismatic Covenant Communities (European and North American), Focolare and Silverstream Benedictine Monastery all, without exception churn out casualties, who have a deeply engrained tendency to see sexual sin as the greatest and openly confessing to or pronouncing a mastery of ‘porn and masturbation.’
Why? Because adherents to those cults/sects are constantly being interrogated about it so that it becomes the litmus test of faith.
I mean God forbid your struggle is with gossip, over use of social media, bullying and manipulation – no, the Biggie, the real test of faith is ‘porn and masturbation.’
I think he’s as much a victim of Silvetstream as anything else and it will take several years to acclimatise to normal life and resist the tendency to inform the world about his relationship with porn and masturbation.
Money on Kirby gets his rocks off enquiring about masturbatory habits of his monks in their habits.

The people who minimise sexual sins (whilst talking a lot about them) are those who have the poorest human development and are clearly not fully integrated. It’s not that complicated really, they project onto others their immaturity.

Run that by me again…much sexual intercourse involves mutual stimulation – no shit Sherlock!!
Only a RC priest or out of touch lay Catholic could write that!!

Ah bless you, that was helpful and insightful of you – imagine we’ve never met and it’s as if you’ve looked into the deepest darkest recesses of my soul – me with my poor human development, not fully integrated and let’s not forget projecting my immaturity onto others.
Can you leave that with me cuz I’m going up stairs to indulge my enjoyment of porn and masrurbation or as I like t call it ‘me time.’

I find those who maximise sexual sin (and always bang on about it) are just the happiest and fantastic people in the whole wide world – you know, Pharisees, Scribes, Levite Priests, Teachers of the Law – oh how Jesus loved them!!
And always so mature, integrated and with such well endowed human development to boot.
Makes ya sick ya could scream, cuz there so brilliant (sounding like Dougle off Fr Ted)

Are you RNs Mum – gifted with prayerfulness and spiritual depth – that’s the kind of cult speak Silverstream use about Kirby – if your his Mum try to resist aggrandising him, he’s not a Messiah, he’s a very silly boy.

Just watching RTE 1 on the story of Vincent Hanley…..once again confirmed for me the disgraceful behaviour of the police force of The Republic of Ireland in complicity with the RCC in their pursuits of ” you wouldn’t be one of them fellows yourself would ya?” ( to Pat Kenny). A confessional Theocracy supported by state employed thugs….as in Eastern Europe and other repressional states. Spelling mistake !!!!
We have a long way to go……Go Drew Harris….and the RCC need one of them !!
If I have to change my name by depoll, I would be honoured to be known as Sebastian Melmoth. Not beyond possibility when prelates still sup with senior officers!!!!!! Not unconnected with Blog subject matter of late……” lets bury that”…..
