Mark Kirby, against all normal protocol for a religious superior, got all the young monks to go to Confrssion to him and open up about all their problems, and then told all the monks each others private faults.
He even shared the monks private issues with lay visitors over tea.
One of those secrets he shared was Dom Elijah’s problem with gay porn.
In spite of the fact that Elijah was the cellar man and ordered all the supplies, Kirby ordered that he could only be on the computer with all the office doors opened whereby he could be monitored.
All the monks could only access their emails on the omputer in the library.
Kirby was the only one allowed a computer in his cell.
FROM A FORMER MONK NOW LIVING IN EUROPE
“My point, Bishop Pat in telling you about Elijah and porn, was less about Elijah and his struggles and more about the way that Kirby has violated the privacy of every single man who has come into that religious house. And it’s all the more serious in light of the fact that even the sham visitation pointed out that there were egregious violations of the internal forum, including that Kirby himself was hearing the confessions of his subjects.
My personal view is that Kirby has almost certainly violated the seal in some way; the problem is that I cannot prove it.
Then there is the issue of medical our medical data protection. He spread the monks struggles far and wide, and I know that he shared about others’ struggles with people as well.
He even wrote into the constitutions (an article struck down by the visitation) that he had to have eyes and ears in the medical exam room, and the infirmarian (his representative) had to dole out medications for all of the brethren.
We had to have our medications doled out to us like patients in a mental institution. And Kirby would even overrule the doctor’s instructions about medications and when and how to take them“
PAT SAYS
The more you discover about Silverstream you more you see that Robert Bugent is right about it being a cult.
Every aspect of each monks life was minutely controlled by Kirby.
It is a disgrace that he insisted that all the monks used him as a confessor. This does not happen anywhere else.
It is a disgrace that he had full access to all the monks private medical data.
It is a disgrace that he discussed one monks medical data with other monks.
It is a disgrace that he gossiped about monks private and medical information with lay people who visited Silverstream.
The monks at Silverstream may not know or admit the control Kirby had and still has.
They are literally prisoners of Kirby.
They are like mice that Cat Kirby plays with.
It is a thundering disgrace that people like Tom Deenihan is allowing this virtual prison to operate in his diocese.
Silverstream is a Cult gulag.

How come this intrusion into personal aspects of monks life by Kirby etc is allowed to go on when the News bulletins are full of court reports about people finally being called to account for the crime of coercive control. Kirby is not a doctor, he has no qualifications or right to adjust medications for anyone. Someone could die. Does the law of the land not apply to the RCC in Ireland? That probably explains why clergy supping with the law.

Pat, another nail in the coffin for Silverstream. Undoubtedly. With all due respect to RN, he only arrived at the truth by appearing on your blog which is only very recently. Many commenters made that observation along with yourself, months, perhaps years, before RN. Remember, he was an OBLATE, a supporter, was a close friend of Kirby, betrayed Dom Benedict. He then made a complete turnaround after you and others chaenged him to see clearly. Pat, RN has lost any credibility and integrity re: Silverstream. Wasn’t he still asking in comments yesterday to have respect and kindness for Kirby and all the monks, to be aware of the mental effects on the monks of all this publicity? Please Pat, other commenters deserve admiration for seeing the sad and awful reality of this monastery long before RN. You should not attach any credibility to this man, RN. He is, I believe doing better work on his videos where he inspires with some of his sharing. But on Silverstream, No! Your information today should move Bishop Deenihan to act promptly. We should pray for the young monks for their safety and well being.

It is dreadful that a monk’s name should have been mentioned on this blog. It would have been far better to say “a monk’s issue with porn” and leave it at that. If this blog is about seeking reform, justice and healing, this is an inappropriate way off going about it and not at all effective, and the naming of an individual as above is totally abhorrent. IF TRUE and IF the admission of the monk was made within the internal forum and then spoken of openly, it was a grave violation of the seal of confession and the mention of his name on this blog has added to that breach and the injury caused to the monk in question. I note that the accuser/ former monk is permitted his privacy and yet the poor monk has not been afforded the same discretion.
It is clear that Anonymous at 11.34pm “gets off” on such stuff as evidenced in his remarks. This further demonstrates the veracity of allegations previously made here that this blog, and the way subject matter is treated, is largely about titillation rather than the purported aims it is said to pursue.
This blog has succeeded in further victimising a victim, whatever the weaknesses/ failings of the victim MAY have been.

Pat, did you read today’s Irish Times about that wretched and evil Religious Sisters of Charity rezoning lands to sell at 50 Million. These lands were donated by Irish citizens and should be gifted back to the State for social housing or community initiatives. They made 208
Staff redundant by offering statutory redundancy, and a good will gift of 3k, take it or leave it. They ascribe to the ideal that they give to the poor what the rich can afford. Whatever about Mary who is not very Christian, I am surprised about Sr Stan. Compensate the women that your congregation abused and gift to the redress scheme.

The “evil” Sisters of Charity! The land was given for a particular purpose. Modern society has rendered that purpose obsolete so the Sisters get to use the same land for a different, similar purpose. They will. And when they do they will do it, hopefully, in a way that cuts out the neo-liberal builders and disgustingly anti-Catholic state. They will do it in a way that makes the land available for social housing, something that no cosseted clergyman can appreciate.
Are you seriously complaining that people were made redundant and got their entitlements plus 3,000? Are the employees entitled to a job for life now? Get a grip and put down the Orish Tomes. Think for yourself. Take a few deep breaths and try to be less outraged.

Person is humiliated and publicly flogged by people who masturbate and use porn (but would never confess for fear of it being proclaimed from the rooftops).
Oh the stench of hypocrisy.
The idea of the seal of the confessional is a veritable myth – and Kirby and cult leaders in Opus Dei, Neo Cat and Covenant Communities are all the same – obsessed with sex, porn, masturbation and their biggest vice – CONTROL.
If you go to Confession anywhere in the world and confess to gossip, hatred, greed, etc the priest nods off so bored is he – mention porn and mastutbation and he’s wide awake – ever keen to probe the details.

If we ourselves are seeking truth and justice and a remedying of this monastery – and if we are being truly serious – there can be no place for gratuitous, sexualized imagery placed on anyone’s body or over doors. This is a gross abuse in itself. Lets act as marure, caring adults. These men are human beings who need professional pastoral care. Caricaturing and ridiculing so horribly will not achieve anything. There are wrongs: they be been expressed.. Lets now show some real care ourselves for the mental, emotional and spiritual well being of all. The naming of monks about their personal behaviour is morally abhorrent. Naming names in this context could lead to fatal acts of harm. Surely we.must all now realise the potential for serious harm at this moment? I just ask for restraint.

So let’s get this clear: the then cellarer wasn’t allowed by Kirby to access the internet in private because he would surf porn?
And all the other monks accessed their email on a computer in the library but Kirby had his own computer in his room? (Actually you would think St Theresa could read his email to him, but that’s another matter).
Here’s the thing: if a number of users access the network and nobody needs to surf porn and you’re worried about a scandal if your computer needs fixing and the engineers look at your browser history, the obvious way around this is to put parental controls on the whole network. Then nobody can access porn and you don’t have to keep an eye on Elijah.
The fact that Kirby didn’t put parental controls on the network and has a computer in his room suggests he is surfing stuff which wouldn’t be allowed by the parental control filter.
Just sayin’. Cos if nobody is using porn you just don’t need it.

Old ladies love their perms and colour rinses, it’s almost like a religious ritual to them lol.

Hi Anna May, I’m sorry to hear of the upset you describe of yourself and your loved ones. It sounds a difficult one for sure and my love and prayers are with you and your loved ones.
I don’t know the correct answer, but I do agree priests should be as understanding as possible in these circumstances.
Maybe the priest could have been a little more understanding, that’s my view.
I think sometimes clergy can be so busy with lots of different things that they often become “desensitised”, if that makes sense? A bit like when doctors and nurses work in a hospital?
I think women priests can seem a bit more sensitive to these things than us men, you know what men can be like in general.. just ask anybody whose ever been married to a man.
Also, only occasionally, has it has been known for church buildings to be burglarized and personal possessions stolen over night, things like jewellery. If such a thing had happened before then it could be a bit unerving for a priest or vicar having to explain this to the loved ones..
I’m not good at these things, but I hope I have helped a little bit here.
May God bless you Anna May and your loved ones, my love and prayers. Peter x

It is sufficient to say you believe he broke the seal of confession. There is no need to repeat the sin and identify the confessee on the internet. It feels almost like it is one step removed from breaking the seal of confession, but also worse by publishing it in the media. We have no way of knowing if this man truely had a problem with porn (of any nature). The story may also be a malicious falsehood designed to detract and defame.

I believe that if I hard such a story I should feel vexed that the seal was broken, but feel obliged to maintain the confidence of the confessional if responding.

With a demonic name like Holy Goat, we all feel uneasy

What is demonic about the name The Holy Goat?
God made all Goats, and called us good.

Silverstream and the Diocese of Meath must be thick with literal demonic energy. The whole saga bears the unmistakable signature of the infernal. I would be very interested to hear an opinion on this from a reasonable, approved exorcist.

The link between a dysfunctional Silverstream and the post-Tridentine Mass of 1570 is worth investigating.

No link there, it could be worse they could be using the very dysfunctional and divisive Novus Ordo. So we can be thankful at least they are celebrating The Most Holy Sacrifice of The Mass as it should be.

There’s nothing divisive about the reformed Mass of the Roman rite. It’s the only show in town in the Latin church as Traditionis custodes makes abundantly clear. The Second Council of the Vatican is the church’s magisterium. Don’t call yourself a Roman Catholic if that’s not you.

The TLM seems to be about the only thing Silverstream got right. Kirby strikes me as someone much more suited to new age type mass with liturgical dancing, out of tune guitar strumming, tambourines, reader’s digest jokes and cheap felt banners.

The trad stuff is a very late Kirby revelation, as I think this blog has discussed before. He used to be a partisan of the liturgical reform. It’s why Silverstream has been so attractive. That was a stroke of genius on Kirby’s part.

8:16, exactly, Kirby seems to be putting on an act designed to attract as many as possible, knowing full well the TLM world is far more attractive and authentic looking to the youth of today than the empty immature dippy hippy crap of the 60’s that belongs to embarrassing oldies at this stage. He’s no more genuine TLM than the man in the moon.

Reading and completing a book during Lent is a Benedictine custom. I read somewhere that at Silverstream the book was chosen for each monk by the superior as an act of obedience. Allowing the monks the freedom of making their own choice might lead to disastrous results.

I know a former novice of Silverstream. They were not even allowed their choice of monastic names, which is customary (submitting three to the superior, from which he would choose). Rather, Kirby would supposedly receive charismatic revelations about the choice of name. It’s all a bit spooky, if you ask me.

I can confirm that be be true.

Somewhat similar to the Friars of the Renewal under fr. Benedict Greschel.

From chapter 48 of the Rule of St Benedict
During the days of Lent, they should devote themselves to reading from the morning until the end of the third hour; and from then until the tenth hour they should do the work assigned to them. In these days of Lent they should each receive a book from the library, to be read straight through in its entirety. These books are to be given out at the beginning of Lent.
TBH reading a book picked by someone else may expose you to things you would otherwise miss?

Pat, why in this day and age do you think all these homosexuals are so attracted to be clergy and religious, is it because they think that being one is the only thing that’s going to stop them acting on their homosexual desires? It seems bizarre, like a heterosexual man thinking joining the Priesthood will stop him acting on his heterosexual desires. An actual serious spiritual vocation is required, and none of the problematic guys in Silverstream strike me as having genuine vocations, they seem to be just more narcissist interesting in larping about in costume and playing the surface part of what they think a monk is. Maybe that’s harsh, but that’s the surface level impression I get from what I’ve seen so far.

To add to the above, what I mean is I as a spiritual Christian, I know I’m called to be a lay person and live in the world as best I can. I can understand a call to a religious vocation, but for me to have ever even considered it, it would not just have to be just some nice idea or notion, it would have to be a totally overwhelming spiritual conviction on a deep level that I would have no cares of interests in the draws of this world, nor even think much about them ever again.

They love the men too much, Bp Pat; they’re probably bored looking at each others, so resort to porn for a change. I expect BlacksForDaddies will be popular amongst the bottoms at Silverstream.

One truly wonders what the clergy of Meath think about their (relatively) new bishop and the utter mess he presides over in Stamullin. The clergy of Cork, meanwhile, sing solemn Te Deum’s daily for their deliverance.

Good evening Patrick,
In my considerable years as a priest in County Armagh and Louth, I thought I might remark on the disgraceful lack of honour which has become apparent in relatively recent times in this jurisdiction, from younger priests.
I pray daily that the stories I hear are untrue, but if so, leave huge gaps in a number of areas – least of all fidelity. I struggle to carry out my duties often, but I do not allow myself to live a life of waywardness.
I feel a serious attempt at re-engaging with young clerics is necessary. I will be addressing my superiors about my concerns in due course.
