PAT SAYS
Its good to see that a Catholic bishop has been imprisoned for sexually assaulting seminarians.
This is an issue I have been highlighting for a very long time.
Clergy – senior and junior and other seminarians – have sexually assaulting and abusing seminarians for a long time.
That’s what was happening in Maynooth culminating in the so called “Summer of Love” in 2016.
Diarmuid Martin was the only bishop to take action 😞
McCarrick in the USA was a 60 year plus abuser of seminarians and young priests
Seminarians have left seminaries ruined for life.

76 replies on “POPE’S PROTÉGÉ BISHOP SENT TO JAIL FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF SEMINARIANS.”
That the Pope can get away with it, and that bishops rarely face consequences from Rome, must be very encouraging to the likes of Tom Deenihan. They wouldn’t do it if they knew they couldn’t get away with it.

No wonder they want married priests – they will have to send the wife to the seminary with them with a big stick whilst they training like a personal bodyguard.

Married priests aren’t a solution to abuse, which madly some have suggested. Anglicanism has had major abuse scandals. The Aussie Royal Commission uncovered horrors. Eastern Orthodoxy with its married parochial priests has had many scandals. This is not whataboutery, but abusers thrive of certain structures of power and collusion. This can be anything from an ecclesial structure to a family with dark secrets.

They say Roche is a force to be reckoned with in Rome. He has Francis’ ear and a wiley old fox. The E&W Conference, the Irish lot and others are scared of him plus his directives on the liturgy which is very pro Vatican II. He didn’t get to Rome from Yorkshire for sitting on his arse. all day. The rest of them did though. Long runs the fox or should I say Roche. He has his haters and they can be summed up as lazy or jealous.

Roche @11.51pm helps no one only himself. He is soon to get a red hat and is too close with Francis. He is slowly getting his revenge on the English lot including Elsie. He is informing Francis big time on English affairs and basically a snake and grass. I don’t like that he is Vatican 2 like Frankie too. They say if you cross Roche you’ve had it. I know he has been good to clergy in London and Leeds but I don’t trust him.

Pro V2? Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Constitution on the liturgy spoke of the role of Latin and Gregorian chant. It mandated only that priests should be able to move around new altars, and that repetitions be reduced or removed.. A transitional missal c. 1966 is faithful to that. The Mass codified at Trent anyhow allowed in its rubrics for the priest to face, versus populum, as otherwise Trent would be condemned basilicas in the round.. +Roche seems unaware, or professes to be, unaware of the Agatha Christie or Heenan Indult permitting the ’67 missal in England and Wales with episcopal permission, and generally seems ill informed, but there’s no doubting his energy and political skill in retaining the ear of the monarch Pope Francis.

Pope Francis will get away with it because he’ll have another interreligious meeting or he’ll host some other big name politician. He doesn’t care about the likes of you or me he sees himself as chaplain to the elite. Look at the way he’s treated his own cardinals like Cardinal Zen. Zen spent weeks in Rome waiting for a meeting to discuss the situation in China and couldn’t get to talk to P. Francis. Everything he does is for show.

Zen is among the most anti-Francis cardinals out there. He thinks he can be ultra right wing and critical and then decides to ask for help. It doesn’t work that way in secular organisations. Tow the company line and get heard. Zen should have been smarter.

But our response must always be one of love, 8:31 am. Everything we do must be done in Love.
LOVE IS PATIENT
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
— 1 Corinthians 13: 4-13

What? Re cure.
Heard of his drinking issues, also related with speeding as well. Its not the 1st time they said.
Its old story in cabra where they send priests with problems such as drink or abuses to Cabra hoping that it would die down. But not, two priests from Vincentian order plus one CBS whose heavy drinking was noticeable in the mornings. Also there was a famous cbs brother Dax as he was before my time.
Is that the reason BLING Bishop sent him to deaf community hoping it would die down and be covered up. But we have eyes to see what priests are up to.

The RCC protect all their toxic protégées – that’s why they specialize so expertly in consistently retruamatizing victims and survivors and why they surround themselves with what they call the “faithful”. We all know at this stage what exactly that means. This is another nail in coffin for Pope Francis and his cohort.

It’s about time someone was put behind bars. The harassment and abuse of seminarians is a problem worldwide.
++DM’s stance against Maynooth should have led to radical reform of the seminary.
The rest of the bishops circling the wagons in support of Maynooth was damage limitation aimed at minimising the scandal. The dogs on the streets know of the strange goings-on from 2016.
The bishops come out in public saying they want to see an increase in vocations. They are not exactly inspiring confidence.
In 2016 they could have acknowledged the problem in Maynooth and made a fresh start in resolving the problems. Minimising scandal however had to take precedence as always. People are voting with their feet in a vote of no confidence.

I think this is the first time a bishop has been imprisoned; aside from Pell who won his appeal. Finn in the US was given a suspended prison sentence for covering up. Archbishop Józef Wesołowskiwas kept under house arrest in the Vatican but died before his trial for messing with kids. O’Brien of Phoenix was the first American Catholic bishop to be convicted of a felony – hit and run – bit again received a suspended sentence.

The Zanchetta scandal is appalling and egregious revealing the dark underbelly of Pope Francis’ gangster pontificate.
Why won’t Francis return to Argentina? Because he will be arrested.
Why won’t Benedict return to Germany? Because he will be arrested.

The only reason Francis protected Zanchetta is because Zanchetta has something on him – isn’t that how it works with criminals. You scratch my back I scratch yours. Francis can offer the greatest gift of all – Diplomatic Immunity – although as the Head of a State he should be called to account for creating a job in the Vatican bank for which Zanchetta was unqualified and incompetent – the Peter Principle par excellence.
The loss of moral and ethical authority is palpable – the media go easy on Francis because he appears liberal but he’s more conservative than Burke and more Machiavellian than Machiavelli himself.
To misquote the great Bard Michael Snipe: ‘It’s the end of the pontificate as we know it.’

Dear Pat,
I’m sorely disappointed by your response to my comments yesterday. Could you please clarify your position as a ‘liberal bishop’ on lay ministry? Do you believe that there is an ontological difference between lay and ordained and if so, does it give ordained the right to inflict superiority over laity?
I spoke to my parish priest today, in tears, about your comment to me and he said that he thought you were quite clerical in your ministry style, and this is probably because you are Irish and the Irish church has always been behind the times!
Anyway, next week he is away and I will be presiding over a word and communion service, with all the ceremonial and incense that is normal for a Sunday mass. Proving that a parish without a priest can still function as normal!
I suggest you read “The Empty Altar” by Fritz Lobenger if you don’t believe me.
The future of the oratory is probably without an ordained minister. I hope you are training lay leaders for when you are gone.

Dear Susan,
On reflection I believe that my response to you was unkind and flippant. For this I apologise profusely. I hope you will forgive me. I am very ashamed that I caused you to cry.
I am not at all sure about this ontological difference thing. That is a philosophical term and philosophy does not always reflect faith and mystery well.
I have wanted to a priest since I was 4 years old. I am now with God’s grace alone, 46 years ordained.
I do believe that the priesthood was originally founded and intended by Jesus but I’m less sure it has developed a cording to his plan.
I DO BELIEVE in lay ministeries of all kinds.
I do believe that what you are doing is an essential service and pleasing to God.
I have ordained a priest to follow me and I have ordained a woman priest 24 years ago.
Can we start again?

Now, I think thon claim about the 12’s faith a wee bit exaggerated. Their faith in Gethsemane thon balmy night dissapated as quickly as a fart in a gale when the Temple guard and Roman soldiers came lookin’ for Jesus’ blood.
And their faith post-Calvary? Well, there wasn’t any, was there? The 12 all went back to their day jobs, believing Jesus was dead meat. End of story. (So much for the veracity of the Gospel statement about Simon-Peter’s proclaimation that Jesus was the Christ).
I think we’re all, faithwise, peas in a pod with thon 12, so a do.

Contrary to Papal words on ‘clericalism’ he seems utterly clericalist. Austen Ivereigh, whose conduct to two young women was notably unbecoming (not criminal, but very poor, suing the Daily Mail didn’t work out for him), seems to be defending PF to the hilt. I hope at least it is a guilty conscience on his part.
