Since the beginning of Lent the cardinals who will elect the future pope have been passing this memorandum around. Its author, who goes by the name of Demos, “people” in Greek, is unknown, but shows himself a thorough master of the subject. It cannot be ruled out that he himself is a cardinal.
PAT SAYS
Francis’ papacy has been very divisive.
He has certainly allowed traditional beliefs on many issues to be challenged and reexamined.
A lot of RCs around the world love to hate Francis , especially the Conservative and TLM ones.
They will want a new pope to return the RCC to “the old ways”.
I do not think that will happen.
The genie is out of the bottle.
The RCC has been exposed as an internationally corrupt entity in which massive sexual abuse has occurred.
It will take a lot more than a smiley new pope to put things right.
The world now knows the emperor has no clothes.

Would be interested in your views, Pat, and any others looking on on the current pledge to consecrate Russia to the immaculate heart of Mary.
It appears to me we have three things going on here: 1. the renewed promise by a Pope on the ropes for lack of traditional teaching, 2. a prior “consecration” of the world: of which Russia is part and, 3. a Marian apparition of such gravity that it might be the most significant intervention of our Lord since the resurrection itself.
If done correctly, invoking all Bishops at once and naming Russia unequivocally, might Francis unify the Church?

Marian apparitions belong to a parallel magisterium.

Demos is certainly actually a cleric and actually sounds like one of the tat queens who bitch here.
There are also a couple of colossal factual errors in this diatribe, the most serious of which is to describe JP2’s legacy as christocentric. Surely only paedocentric could be meant.

The style resembles that of Viganò. Francis has rattled this crowd who will stop at nothing, including dirty tricks to oppose him.
Pseudo-historical and pseudo-theological. Irenaeus is cited as an appeal to church history. Irenaeus constructed the list of the earliest popes from apostolic times to his own day, as if Rome had had a single monarchical system during that period. Pope Victor, 188-198 is considered by many authorities, the first bishop of Rome in the commonly accepted meaning of that word.

Cardinal Pell, every Friday evening for most of his tenure in Melbourne…not just as Archbishop used to visit the home of two very well adjusted gentlemen who loved each other. I think, though open to correction, that they were both teachers. Pell has a public personage as all career clerics do….and then his real self. As I keep saying; he is a very good man. Anthropologically, his kind ( and most bishops) are complex and complicated. But, a very good man.

The dossier is a good summary of the disasters of Francis, apart from the deliberate and cynical predator protection (Inzoli, Barros, Zanchetta et al ad finitum), perhaps as that issue might hit too closely to home for many Cardinals. And anyone who think’s the motu proprio loving, serial sacker wants to give more authority to the laity and local bishops, I’ve a bridge to sell them.

The Holy Ghost or Spirit choosing the Pope is likely something made up by CBS news or another news agency. There have been a few Popes who were rather morally challenged, even if St Peter Damian and Liutprand of Cremona are discounted as sources for the apparent worst. The Holy Spirit protects against the Pope solemnly proclaiming heresy as truth, following from our Lord’s words in the Gospel of Matthew. Given how Zanchetta got prison, the coverup efforts for Grassi in several thick volumes might conceivably result in Zanchetta getting a cell mate, if Francis had ever retired and somehow returned to Argentina.

That’s in part a revival of an old practice where eminent or qualification lay men were raised to the Cardinalate while having no more than minor orders. The great Cardinal Ruffo, who drove the French out of the mainland part of the kingdom of Naples, was a late example, and had earlier held various posts in the Papal states, and was seen as a reformer. Cardinal Pole (who had a better claim to the throne than his liege lord Henry VIII) was an earlier example, only being ordained when he became archbishop of Canterbury.

Hey, you know, I’m not really interested in what is happening in Rome. I’m interested in what is happening in my own bit of the world, in my city and diocese. And, frankly, it is moribund. I happen to be a cathedral parish parishioner, and I find that the cathedral is closed more than it is open, conveniently excused by on-going covid concerns, but in reality because it does rather suit the clergy / dean and the six full time lay employees of a provincial cathedral. They have learned that covid measures suit their work ethic ! There is nothing happens there, except a daily mass when they haven’t got an excuse to cancel it, and a couple of masses on a Sunday. Pretty much nothing else. No outreach, no engagement, no vision, no real plan of how to use a huge building and associated buildings in the centre of a city for the common good. Rather, they seem to excel in how not to be bothered too much to do anything but the bare essentials. And, into the bargain, running up huge debts that the rest of the diocese will end up having to pay. It’s a joke, clergy who have little interest other than their own convenience and comfort and that of the mates they have gathered around them to ‘work’ for them, clergy who have little idea or training or professionalism, except the ability to claim to be instant experts about everything because of the grace of ordination. I’m more concerned to see this sorted out in my city and cathedral rather than worry about Rome. I just want clergy who know what they are doing, are interested in other things than their own comfort and convenience, and can bother to show some sort of professional attitude to what they do, rather than just claiming authority and knowledge because they happen to have been smeared with the holy oils at ordination. The majority of them wouldn’t even make deputy headteacher in a primary school in a whole career, so useless are they. Any guesses as to the diocese and cathedral ? Answers on a postcard, please….
