“THE STATE OF THE PRIESTHOOD” BY FR BRENDAN KILCOYNE.

I have to say I am uneasy about this Brendan Kilcoyne fella.

He looks like a more agricultural version of our friend Robert Nugent.

I don’t really buy his “Ah lads” presentation.

I worry about him looking “elegant nonchalance” donations for Immaculata Press

Is that the Church Militant branch of the Legion of Mary?

Will the universal spiritual crisis we are in be addressed by “spiritual fast food”.

Does the promotion of the priest as “a man apart” not have echoes of the ontologically changed brigade?

Is it true that:

“The priests run the church and lay people run the world”?

Is his description of the priesthood “not been in great shape” a thundering understatement?

Is Kilcoyne on an ego trip?

Has he a secret life?

Is he a Mary man or a Joe man?

Is he a cider man or a wine connuser?

What do readers make of this bowsie, Kilcoyne?

For me, the jury is far out, and I’m wondering what the real story is.

You see, experience has taught me that what you see is not always what you get.

And I don’t know if Ireland is ready just yet for an Irish Rural Buddha.

11:49pm Awful language out of you about your holy colleague, Father. You priests really don’t like each other do you. Always scrapping and backstabbing. Calm down, your chances of making it to Bishop or even Pope have never been higher.

Like

Pat, these guys like Brendan Kilcoyne and Roger Nugent have a particular perspective and perception about priests, Church and living the ideals of the gospel. This video is a complete turn off. If any person chooses to preach through videos, the content must be presented in an inspiring, inviting way. The style of Brendan’s “preaching” is most unattractive. I don’t agree with your implicit judgments that Brendan may have “another life”. He’s been around a long number of years and why are you now wanting to find something negative against him, if possible? I wouldn’t like his preaching but neither do I have any time for those who believe they are better than everyone else, as exemplified by you and Robert all too frequently. You are both good people, as I’m sure Brendan is, but the “preachy” judgmental videos and blog commentary is not always commendable.

BK and RN have too much to say about everything. Like Naomi Long on the View last night. She thinks she knows everything and has something to say about it all.

Like

@9.21am That Naomi Long blade could talk for the whole of Ireland. She never takes breath and is almost gasping for air when she finishes. Could you imagine having to listen to her everyday.

Like

@9:21 & 9:49. Perhaps the very positive remarks of The View’s two commentators to Mark Carruthers passed you by. In summary, they believe her to be an impressive asset whose well considered views are articulated with clarity. And what a contrast to others, for example Jim Wells in particular.
I thought Mark Carruthers, in indecent haste, was uncharacteristically over aggressive continually interrupting Naomi seeking simplistic positional statements from her on complex issues. It is to her credit that she remained calm despite Carruthers’ hectoring.

The Kilcoyne chap reminds me of Mulvihill. Both men don’t wear their ‘apparent’ intelligence lightly. They are always trying to impress you with their vocabulary.
I’ll give Kilcoyne credit for at least being comprehensible. I have to scan and parse Bill’s sentences several time before I realise he’s not saying anything worth listening to.
I did chuckle at his sideways snipe at Nugent and Pat earlier.

Like

Yes,, + Pat, he does come across as a bit agricultural / a bog man. Also, his stuff about priests being set apart is true, but only in the sense that for so many of them you would really want to keep them apart because so many priests do have ‘grooming’ and personal hygiene problems, with unkempt hair, dandruff, stained trousers and jackets. Probably because they have nobody at home to tell them they should maybe change that pullover which they have been wearing for the last 5 years. The prissy lot go to the other extreme and pimp themselves and smell like an Arab perfume shop. There are very few in between. So, I tend to keep my distance by and large to spare my sensitive eyes and nose. Oh, by the way, after a good start, Monty seems to be reverting to style and is pissing off people, many of whom are now going elsewhere.

Like

@7.49am Hardly surprising Monty has reverted to style. It’s common knowledge in Northwood parish that parishioners have gone elsewhere because of those ridiculous antiquated vestments he insists on wearing. His idea and style of liturgy has raised eyebrows plus talk of his drinking in local public houses.

Like

10:14am Our parish priest has never done antiquated, new clothes, new cars, new money people, new, new, new. Shiny & New, that’s always been him.

Like

People are fed up with Monty appealing for more money. This weekend he will be making yet another appeal for people to cough up. He gets almost £2,500 per week and with the cost of living and high energy price hikes he hasn’t a clue. People have voted with their feet and gone to Hillingdon and other parishes.

Like

10.14am I’m a parishioner and he wears a mix of vestments – sometimes Latin but mostly polyester. 1.25pm I don’t know where you get that figure from – it’s not the figure that appears in our newsletter each week.

Like

@6.25pm Time for you to go back to Specsavers and get a refund dearie. Last week’s offerings in Northwood parish newsletter was nearly £2,300. It’s time that your PP Monty saves money by keeping away from local pubs and the Mandarin Chinese. Is this prudent timing to be asking the congregation to cough up more money?

Like

8.07 and time for you to get a calculator out – as the PP mentioned there was a typo in the final figure – if you add up the individual sections you would see that it would come to £1182.48.

Like

God save us, if this is an example of ‘The State of The Priesthood today’ if this eejit Kilcoyne is the best on offer. I agree with you, that what you see is not what you get, and bowsie describes him exactly. Mary, Help of Christians pray for us.

Like

@8.17pm “A typo” lol. Really? Your PP Monty needs to go to Specsavers then by printing such misleading figures. Also a course in adding up too wouldn’t go amiss. I wonder if he can easily spot any “typo” faux pas on his bar bills and the bills at the Mandarin Chinese. Better get your wallets at the ready this weekend because he will be appealing to you for more dosh baaaaaaa

The contrast between this blog and CTS blog is like day and night.
Rcc is run via top down all the way via magesitrum, Canon law, dickats, etc. Rcc laity can’t change it nor don’t we have a say in election of cardinals. In other words, rcc isn’t a democracy. It’s a monarchy with Pope as a head. I’m not sure if thats what jesus intended to be.

A thoroughly boring man with an all too simple idea about Christian belief. Yes, he resembles Robert Nugent No more of this, please.

Like

But Christian belief is simple and requires a lot of us to be humble and to give pure unconditional love.
1. Love God as he loves us.
2 .love our neighbour as God
loves us.
The Vatican law makers spend their time in offices making up flowery statements for us to follow and which are hard to understand and leave you wondering are they hiding something , Fr Brendan is more down to earth. The synod will make more important work available for women especially the women who believe and say they are nearer to God than the ordinary members of the congregation. This is pure arrogance and I see God more in the ordinary poor person who offers their daily struggles to God for a better loving world for us all. The synod will not offer more real change. Just give more importance to the
important people .

I always think it’s sad when priests are shot at point blank in war zones, the many we lost here over the years. Fr Dennis Bergkamp was speaking of watching Russians ignore the pleas of a fellow priest before shooting him callously outside Kyiv. Prayers for them all. Even the Russians are victims in this war. The ones who are speaking out anyway.

You all better get ready for the end, because it is nigh. There will be nuclear holocaust, mutually assured destruction. Putin is irrational and will instigate something disastrous. Just pray that you go in the first blast and don’t know too much about it, because what will be left will entail a slow, lingering death through a nuclear winter. Nowhere will be immune. Either Putin is toppled pretty quickly by those around him who have come to realise how deranged he is and that they want a way out, or China will nobble him. Short of that he is going to do something very stupid and disastrous for us all. Sorry, but these are very, very dangerous times.

Not sure what to make of this Fr Brendan. Maybe given the well justified disillusionment with the mainstream Roman Catholic Church, perhaps we will as time goes on, see more priests forging an independent identity and developing their own UTube & similar followings on a subscriber basis as I note Fr Brendan is requesting donations.

Can I ask you a question 🤷‍♂️

Why should we be giving our money to rcc with no accountability cos it’s not a democracy 😉🤔.

You ask that question on my behalf to synod🤷‍♂️😉

9:34 Strictly speaking the church is a banana republic because to meet the definition you don’t have to be an actual republic but do have to be a country dependant economically on one product.
Deaf Guy, obviously we shouldn’t. Of course we give money to private enterprises all the time in the shape of business, but at least get some choice there. The church of Rome has tried to take out the competition by selling itself as The One True Church.

Synod is a farce as it will be written…. Old roman style.
Synod will be dictated by top down, cardinals to dictate the proceedings with little output coming from the laity. They will stamp their own style on it re president or chair of the synod.
Its irrelevant to lapsed Catholics or Catholics who have left rcc.
BTW, I would suggest that census 2022 may show huge drop in RC, probably around 50% or less from the last census 79%

He has a point about the need for a reformation even one with a capital ‘R’. Should priests not issue receipts for money paid to them for masses? How else do they adequately compile their accounts? Can somebody please shed some light on this please. Many parishioners go into the sacristy to pay the priest for anniversary masses, indeed some book them and pay the priest on the night or morning of the actual mass in the sacristy. No receipt.
