Dear Fintan,
I have it on good authority that Fr Ger Fitzgerald has been:
1. Taking the prescribed drug Xanax from two lady parishioners in the diocese for his own use?
(Alprazolam, sold under the brand name Xanax, among others, is a fast-acting tranquilizer of medium duration in the triazolobenzodiazepine (TBZD) class, which are benzodiazepines (BZDs) fused with a triazole ring.)
These drugs have not been given to him by a doctor or pharmacist but were prescribed for the lady parishioners he took them from.
This is highly unprofessional, if not illegal.
2. Furthermore, he has sourced Marujana from a drug addict he knows and supplied it to another lady in the diocese.
Again, it is highly unprofessional and probably illegal.
It is my intention to address this matter on my Blog on Friday coming.
Can I have a comment from you, please?
How long more are you hoing to tolerate and shelter this priest and his his outlandish, abusive and criminal behaviour?

The more we learn about Ger Fitzgerald, the more concerned and worried we become.
It has been firmly established that Ger has serious difficulties in relating to women.
He invites several women at one time to become involved in his everyday life.
From these women, he seems to expect friendship, emotional involvement, gifts, money, admiration, and adulation.
He wants to both close and aloof at the same time. He shows no understanding of women and how they work and feel.
Like an emotionally dysfunctional spider 🕷 he intices his “lady flies” into his web, sucks them dry, and then disposes them as he wishes.
He shows no understanding of how women respond to his attention by becoming emotionally invested in him and develop very natural and normal expectations.
When he becomes aware of these expectations, he is somehow “repulsed” and immediately, cruelly and savagely, jettisons them – even though he was the one who raised the expectations.
Can this be explained by the early loss of his mother and his forever search for a new mammy? But that’s between him and his therapist.
A mature man and a properly functioning priest can not be allowed to use the priesthood to fill his psychological voids and leave a trail of broken human beings.

It is highly unprofessional for a priest to be using anxiety drugs prescribed for lady parishioners.
This is totally unprofessional and a massive breach of boundaries.
Ger should have seen his own GP and received his own prescription.
It is totally unprofessional for a priest to be sourcing marajuna for a parishioner / friend even though the friend has a licence abroad for medical marajuna for serious illness and pain.
I am 37 years in Larne. I would not know where to find Marajuna in this town.
How does Ger know where to get illegal drugs?
AN ADDICT’S SUICIDE
One young male drug addict was allowed by Ger to sleep in his car.
That young male then took his own life.
No one knows what happened.
Yvonne told Fintan about it.
WHY FINTAN’S INACTION ON ALL THESE IRREGULARITIES?
Why is Fintan not acting in all these irregularities around Ger?
Ger says Fintan is a coward? Is this the reason?
Others are saying that Ger has dirt on other priests and even on Fintan?

Really not being funny but the root problem here is the attitude we see clerics express here so often, that if you find a behaviour in society you’ll find it in the church. This attitude then extends to ordaining anyone with any psychological problem or impulsive sexual behaviour, as long as he’s got a penis.

Today, as on many occasions I visited a family whose son is caught up in a drugs gang. My visits annoy neighbours but it’s more his mother and children I call to help. Thankfully with much guidance he is beginning a rehab programme next week. The dynamics and background of his family life have contributed to his drug problem. Having witnessed the hurt he has caused to himself and his family, were he my son, I think I’d be tempted to lock him up and throw the key away! However, I won’t give up on him now that he’s receiving help. It is beyond fathoming how this priest could ever have believed or thought he could sail through his life without this behaviour destroying, not just his own life, but that of others, women particularly. His Bishop must now act immediately and find a rehab for him or put an ultimatum to him: get help or be laicised. I’m not arguing for a total abandonment of him, but this guy seriously needs professional help and his Bishop must act NOW. Immediately, as messing around with other people’s medication and seeking and offering drugs are profoundly concerning and dangerous.

That poor addict in the car; fancy leaving addictive tablets around somebody who has addiction problems. Opioids and benzodiazepines are two of the most abused prescription medications in the world.
If true, then he is highly reckless.
Causing great upset to vulnerable women, vulnerable women who are prescribed anxiety medication, is bang out of order alone. And now the young man getting ahold of dangerous tablets and losing his life—-in the priest’s car!
Shocking and disturbing stuff. He’s dangerous.

If he’s got two different benzodiazepines on the go and is around weed I’ll guarantee you he’s got poly substance abuse himself and one of the substances will certainly be alcohol.
The whole thing all together spells a man who needs to chemically alter his own world and has relationships (on all levels) with people that he can’t possibly be happy with.
Right now laicization to my mind is not the immediate issue – Fintan should be suspending him, sending him to the sPs and then probably laicizing him.
I think all of this should have been identified before being admitted to seminary, but now he’s ordained the church should at least offer him help and also stop him ministering.

No one has ever said that Ger uses alcohol. Quite the opposite apparently.

He might not realize that benzos and alcohol both have the same effect of increasing the calming GABA neurotransmitter. In fact benzodiazepines are used in alcohol detox to prevent withdrawal symptoms so chemically he pretty much is drinking.
He also may not know that using prescription drugs without a prescription or the knowledge to know about drug interactions can be dangerous. The interaction of alprazolam with opioid pain relief such as cocodamol can be fatal.

He branded a druggie, called Carol insane. He lied to hes bishop about Yvonne until he was forced to tell the truth. This is a man in a position of power that was well respected destroying people reputations for standing up to him.
Spewing lies and trying to turn large community against them and to discredit them with false information and this is a priest. People listen to him and all he’s doing is poisoning people and saying whatever needs to say to save hes own ass. He doesn’t understand why then they take to social media or papers to get their story across. The Key Point is that it is clear that Fitzgerald’s Bishop and others in Killaloe Diocese have known for some time about these various matters & the only solution they can offer is to get Fitzgerald’s friends/family to try and block this information going public on this blog yet clergy are let loose on the public every day – do we take it that they expect to do exactly as they please With no consequences for the hurt they knowingly inflict on parishioners like Carole & Yvonne. Bishop Pat, Ger is out of ministry for the past year and it’s likely he will never be back. Is airing all this now going to help either party? You are dealing with vulnerable women and a man clearly with mental health issues. I worry and care about all parties involved and pray that the publishing of this information doesn’t drive them over the edge.

9:47, I have no problem about the women turning to +Pat. The Christian thing to do is to help them. There is nothing wrong about the women realising they were wrong about someone. There just seems to be a double standard, as previously mentioned, that the women had no concern for the bishop and now they want the bishop’s concern for them. Respect and concern for each other should be both ways.

It was me who felt some compassion on Ger and asked the Bishop to convey to Ger that the blog was going up. My motivation for that request was to ensure that Ger’s mental health would be looked after. I should have known better than to feel sorry for Ger! No more. Bishop Pat for a very intelligent Holy Man you know fully to well that the case is not on Bishop Fintan’s side as it is all to do with Canon Law.
All Bishop Fintan can do is keep both Ger and Jerry on Sabbatical and when they are Medically fit then a Canonical trial will be started and hope and Pray that it comes back on Fintan’s favour.
This will run on for years as Ger and Jerry know how to play the game.
Jerry thinks he should be included in Diocesan appointments in June but Bishop Fintan thinks not.
Yvonne and Carole would take Ger back in a heartbeat it has all happened before and will happen again.

10.31: Sadly, men will always be deemed the bully, the abuser, the wrongdoer, the bad one. Just look at the court system and we see the very bissed interpretation of the law in favour of women. No man has a right to break a woman apart, emotionally, mentally, sexually, financially. No man has a right to use violence against any woman. We all agree with these beliefs. There are however situations where women are quite vindictive, bullying, abusive and manipulative. Personally, having read Carole’s and Yvonne’s narratives, I wouldn’t relish the thought of getting on the wrong side of their needs and expectations. They are, as you say, not exactly icons of virtue.

Very serious allegations here today.
Using someone else’s prescription is an offence and ironically it is the prescription holder who will be blamed. Priest or not they shouldnt have handed the tablets over. However it is obvious they were coerced and Ger is at fault. If he has anxiety issues – am not suprised if he has – he should have gotten his own drugs from the doctor. There’s no shame in this.
At first impression I think allowing a homeless drug addict to sleep in his car is a decent thing to do. Of course there may be more to the story but at face value it is kind.
Ger needs to simply resign from the priesthood now. His treatment of women is appalling and now this drug issue. He cannot possibly be a priest anymore. He needs a total reset and Fintan should assist with this asap. He also needs to publicly apologise for hurt caused to the ladies.
Carole – you are a fine amateur historian and would be a fine catch for any thinking man. I have no doubt you didnt destroy Hugh’s letters as you would consider it a piece of cultural vandalism😀

I wonder to what degree (if any) chronic loneliness, through required celibacy, is the tipping point for some priests and substance abuse, as well as such other morally aberrant behaviours as sexual promiscuity.
I knew a priest, now deceased, who was addicted to diazepam. He obtained the tablets illegally, through a sympathetic pharmacist; I know this, because I used to drive the priest the 100-odd miles to acquire them.
I tried to help this elderly man by advising him to speak to his GP, in order to obtain a prescription for the medication, instead of suffering all the subterfuge and the risk of having the pharmacist (I believe there was more than one over the years) struck off. But to no avail.

Yes, I remember that incident well. That addict went to the diocese with claims of a sexual nature. He was not considered credible and had no proof, he sadly has since killed himself.

10:56am my neighbours daughter has special needs & likes to use the bus with her travel pass – this is very concerning & it is my duty as a responsible civilian adult to inform the family. I am not very well educated or religious but I was brought up to know right from wrong & to look out for the vulnerable. This basic human act appears to have bypassed a lot of these bishops and church management.

It is horrifying to think that the bishop may still think the Ger can be rehabilitated back into priestly life. It’s over, apply for his dispensation from the clerical state immediately, for the good of the local church! What/who Ger does will then be on him only.
PS I discovered that when Christian’s college in Cork City raised a concern about a visiting Dominican in 2012, it was ignored and dismissed by the then safeguarding person for the Irish Dominican province. Several students reported to their teachers about being questioned about their mastrbation habits in confession, and felt quite uncomfortable. The principal raised it with the local Dominican superior who in turn informed his designated safeguarding person: he dismissed it as non relevant. Incidentally the reported Dominican was subsequently moved to Newbridge college, which has a dreadful legacy of child abuse. That Dominican is now living in a house in the Archdiocese of Armagh, and serves on its council of priests. He is also a superior.

Bishop Pat, I am aware of an RC hospital chaplain who has set up a glory hole in a shed in his back garden and advertised his Viva Street services. How do I report this to his bishop without getting drawn in? I have visited the shed and been on the receiving end of his services and to be for he was good.

A comment for you all to ponder: Shortly after the affair between Ger & Yvonne became public knowledge, Yvonne was subjected to a torrent of abuse/threats by certain people in the Ennis area. Fr. Ger himself told me a rather bizarre story that he had heard from someone he knows in Ennis that Yvonne was at a party where she was harassed, tied up in a room somewhere, beaten, and left to sit there all night where she was humiliated even further and urinated on herself. I have spoken to Yvonne about it, and she states unequivocally that this so called “lynch” never happened. I wonder who has been spinning stories to Ger and why??

It’s a media manipulation technique which has been much used over the past five or more years, which originated from the original fears of conspiracy theorists and others that the entire world was being lied to and everything was a conspiracy. When you act on that belief, because it takes longer for people to rebut a ridiculous story with evidence, it drowns out any sensible discussion and you then dominate the discussion. This is why social media is flooded with comments from bots – they’re not even aiming to give one side of the story they’re aiming to exhaust everyone and stop a discussion or else make the discussion look ridiculous.
That’s why this blog is regularly flooded with obviously fantastic comments, to discourage commenters and make the blog look ridiculous.
The exact same motivation would lie behind telling Ger that story – to mess with his head and confuse him. It’s a sure sign that the people who have been agitating against the women who’ve blown the whistle on him are not on his side and have dropped him. If you rubbish both sides of a conflict you want them both to lose.

The experiences being spoken of these days are very powerful. There’s been a lot of sharing of personal information, positive and negative commentary, pro and anti arguments re: the women and the cleric. It’s quite clear that Ger is in need of professional therapy and assistance and that his Bishop must act swiftly to ensure that Ger is out of ministry completely. To have this level of information attached to your name as a priest is sufficient to warrant his instant dismissal from ministry. As for Carole and Yvonne and other women who are abused in any way, you too must ensure you are helped professionally to rebuild YOUR lives. There’s been a lot of personal information given away and sometimes this can be detrimental to emotional and mental wellbeing. Sharing so much on a blog and probably being recognisable, you may also be trapping yourselves in prolonged anger and hurt. I’d proffer that a more private forum or professional setting with therapists would be conducive to moving on in your lives and helping unravel the profound mix of emotions. I truly wish for the women to recover well from this entire drama.

In my experiene Armagh Fr @ 2.49pm it’s the rejects, the spurned and hurted who make the perfect whistleblowers. Just look at the two women in Clare for an example. Don’t worry about touts as you refer to them but those who run with the hare and hunt with the hound. Now that is a dangerous game.

Ladies ok…. Forgive me for not understanding all this but, what exactly do you want Bishop Fintan to do? or what has he not done? Was he rude to you both? Was he understanding? Why the hatred towards him? He didn’t ordain Ger, he inherited all the messed up Ennis priests.
From what I can follow Ger was removed from his parish and sent home in disgrace and under Fintan’s orders. I’m sure there’s more going on behind the scenes but we will never know unless Ger tells the blog. You do realise that everything is done in secret in the RCC.

I return to the immediacy I spoke of last week. I very much appreciate the platform of Bishop Buckley Blog as opposition to his 26 brothers. My Good God, having been absent for awhile, I’m transported into the Carole and Yvonne and Dee modern version of Romeo and Juliet but sadly there is no fancy courtyard window stage for flower or kiss throwing. Rather a bear cage in which one is pitted against the other in the hope of securing victory, the love they dreamed of in the person of a cleric who is so off the scale with wrongdoing and craziness that you have to question the wackiness of these women’s decisions. Who will survive this very unsavoury drama with any self respect? No one.
