200,000 ABUSED BY PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS IN FRANCE IN PAST SEVEN DECADES!
A commission investigating child sexual abuse in the Portuguese Catholic Church said on Tuesday the nearly 300 testimonies of alleged victims it has collected so far were “just the tip of the iceberg”.
“There have been multiple cases of sexual abuse of children and teenagers in the past,” said the head of the commission, child psychiatrist Pedro Strecht, explaining that more than half of the 290 testimonies indicate “many more victims”.
The abuse allegations have come from people born between 1933 and 2009, from various backgrounds, from every region of the country and also from Portuguese nationals living in other European nations, the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Most of the alleged victims are men, and were sexually abused as early as when they were 2-years-old.
The commission started its work in January after a report by a commission in France revealed last year around 3,000 priests and religious officials sexually abused more than 200,000 children over the past 70 years.

After the EAMON CASEY scandal I started a support for women in relationships with priests called BETHANY.
It was NOT a lobby group.
It was a support group whereby I introduced these women to each other for mutual support.
We eventually heard from roughly 200 women.
Bonnie and Carole are VICTIMS of GER FITZGERALD.
He only had sexual intercourse with one woman.
But there are such things as emotional and spiritual abuse and Ger is abusing women emotionally and spiritually.
And Ger targets vulnerable women, uses them, leads them on and when finished with them, dumps them.
If a lay man did that, we would regard him as a jerk.
For a priest to do it, I can’t think of the appropriate word.
And, to date FINTAN MONAHAN, is facilitating the abuse.
Ger needs to leave the priesthood.
But would he be a danger to women even as a bus driver?
And there are still people and even women, telling Ger he is the victim!

Sadly whether one be man, woman or child, interactions with clergy and their cohorts inevitably appears to frequently result in some form of abuse whether it be sexual, financial or psychological via harassment, gaslighting, slandering etc., this raises serious questions on the mindset of lay and ordained Cathbots. Having lived in various countries & travelled widely in my lifetime, Irish culture in comparison is highly misogynistic but interestingly Irish women themselves are highly misogynistic to the overall detriment so much so that it is socially acceptable that any perceived vulnerability is exploited although the younger generation of women are generally less complicit in this toxic practice.

Saying the pair ‘only committed canonical crimes’ suggests you think little enough of the rules a priest or anyone in orders must follow. Canon law is like the code of conduct any professional would follow or else lose his or her professional standing. The money aspect might involve more than canon law and likewise the possibly connected drug issue. The behaviours were not just sins but would exclude them from working in any sort of public ministry, or have charge of money, barring an extraordinary transformation. Psychologists have not always played a good role with regard to fallen priests or other professionals, clearing them for a role they were never suited, or before they were properly treated. If nothing else, the risk of losing face will mean the diocese will keep them from a public role, it is to be hoped.

Every diocese on the Island of Ireland needs to be independently investigated. Safeguarding MUST be completely independent from the Rcc. What else are personnel of the Roman Catholic Company covering up? Has institutional idolatry, canon law and money taken precedence over Almighty God ?

Bishops, covering up abuse, corruption and criminality, is the antithesis of love of God.

The main thing preventing the church moving on as they would love to, is the nature of abuse.
It frequently takes 20 or 30 years for the victim to be ready to deal with it so currently there will still be abuse from the nineties to come out.
The next thing is that the church doesn’t get the nature of abuse. The way clerics coming on here saying they understand abuse and things like there has never been an allegation at their minor seminary, just denonstrates their utter ignorance.
This is very, very far from over. Cases will be coming out of the woodwork for at least another couple of decades.

You are correct in saying this is far from over. Spain, Portugal and Chile are preparing National investigations into Church CSA and cover up. Italy will follow suit; will likely be particularly bad in relation to numbers abused as well as the extent of covering up by the Ecclesial Authorities in conjunction with other agencies.I believe the Church ‘gets the nature of abuse’. Abuse along with covering up has been occurring in the Church since the end of the 1st century. It is part of the toxic underbelly of the Church. Correct re abuse victim not ready for many years. I remembered I had a full blown ptsd for 6 months as I was quite struggling to make sense of the whole thing. I didn’t understand what’s happening to me that time. It took some 15 years to get it over and ready and strong to give my testimony. Many victims not ready due to the nature of psychological trauma etc. Ptsd probably in my view most dangerous and unpredictable.
Cases will continue to come out in Ireland for next 20 years even too for Portugal cos victims not ready.
What helped me was seeing a psych and telling my story trying to make sense of what’s happening at trauma level. Once I got that, I worked on myself. The best book on trauma was ‘the body knows the score’ by a Dutch sounding name I forgot. His book was brilliant and seminal at the same time. Some of it that I can relate to was in that book.
Reading a book by Frédéric Martel ‘in the closet of the vatican’. Very interesting re Mexico re 3/4of bishops there are ‘spectacularly gay’. Rural priests in Mexico are heterosexual in comparison to city priests who are gay.

The said priest will be moved on and so the behaviour will begin again! The church has been infiltrated by the devil himself and unfortunately ‘they’ love it! Toward Healing is supposed to be an independent organization providing professional support for people who have experienced institutional, clerical or religious abuse in Ireland. It might be more aptly called toward damage limitation. There is far too much involvement
of church personnel, finance, etc, in this service. Up to recently the chairperson of this organization was blog star Richard Purcell. Safeguarding is simply a buffer to protect bishops, while appearing to care. In my opinion none of these services are to be trusted.

Was reading a book last night re ‘in closet of the vatican’. I was surprised to see Bishop Magee mentioned as a homosexual, was there any truth in this?
Martel maintains that there are about 50 to 70% homosexual or in the Vatican at curia level aka monsignor or prelate/bishopric or cardinal level. Some of them are practicing gays as I was astonished to see that famous master of ceremonies named Noe, cardinal Noe as he kept his two lives seperately, one for master of ceremonies and another life as’ practising’ gay.
Martel book astonished me at times re various names such as Noe that I knew of the past.
Lepore, 41 cardinals, many monsignors or prelates were the canary birds for that book.
Key takeaway from that book, Vatican at higher or high rank level such as bishops to popes are gays. Martel said 3 popes out of last five popes had hompolie or homophobic inclinations or have lot gays around their entourage. Ex pope Benedict xvi was the most gayest pontificate that Lepore had seen it so far. It would imply that JPII and Francis are heterosexuals.

No problem. I notice that some files on there seem to be very big for what they are – even up to 100mb. I don’t think a book which is mostly text should be more than a few mb in size (books with lots of illustration would be more) so I try to avoid the bigger files in case they have any nasties hidden in them.

I know, for a fact, a counselor who was giving information received in a supposedly confidential context to a bishop. I do not trust ‘professionals’ who work for, or on behalf of, or who are connected to the church. According to Pope Benedict XVI forgiveness is not a substitute for justice. The primary concern of bishoprics is money, dosh or wonga! Of course, bishops do whatever it takes to cover their behinds for the sake of their future careers, including telling porkies when it is convenient to do so. I hope you are doing well.

I think there is a moral imperative on survivors to do as much as possible, (in their given circumstances taking into consideration their health) to prevent child sexual abuse or the abuse of vulnerable adults. There are far too many wolves in sheep’s clothing in the catholic priesthood.You are right, hit them where it hurts- in their pockets! They couldn’t careless for lives ruined by members of their clerical fraternity, which makes a complete mockery of their preaching of the Gospel. I wish you well.

+Pat and Ger met on several occasions while he was in formation. Typically in hotel bars in Dublin. Let’s be honest, part of the formative influence was a voice opposing church teaching. That voice hindered Ger’s perception of how a person can live in the clerical world – choosing to agree or disagree with church teaching… turning a blind eye here and there. Unfortunately on this occasion well meant influence caused Ger to think certain alterations to lifestyle were acceptable.
I do not suggest that Pat told him specifically to engage with vulnerable women, but +Pat acted as a formator to a man he truly did not know. one cannot turn a blind eye to chastity, but Pat obviously didn’t realise that this was Ger’s area of struggle I human formation. The consequences are awful for all involved.

A priest who abused a child in a ritual manner in the early 70s, including forcing her to commit the same acts on another girl, is or was a priest at an institution for vulnerable boys and girls (a favoured haunt of the depraved if they can manage it, like Jimmy Saville did). Another bishop in a diocese where she now lives actually helped her assemble her evidence which she provided to her state Attorney General.

11:40pm Seen similar issues in our County as you mention are in Clare. Parish Priest in my brothers parish appears to spend more time in his old parish than he does in his own. Always seeking opportunities and excuses to return and to be “seen & heard” on what he clearly regards as his “patch”. Seems pleasant enough on the exterior but obviously another egotistical who has to get his own way at all costs & via any means. Can’t be easy for the current parish priest with his predecessor always popping up at the more prominent events. Not nice.
