Dear Mother Immaculata,

You may not be aware but a number of serious allegations of sexual misconduct and financial mismanagement have been made against the former Prior of Silverstream Priory, Fr Mark Kirby. These allegations were sufficiently serious to warrant an investigation by the Irish police force (An Garda Síochána) that lasted over a year. The police were satisfied to refer the allegations to the state prosecuting authorities so the allegations were not without substance.

It is my understanding that you are very “devoted” to Fr Kirby, and that is to your considerable misfortune. However, this devotion may have clouded your judgement and objectivity about Fr Kirby.

It has been alleged that Fr Kirby who mysteriously vanished from Silverstream Priory in the Republic of Ireland with two novices may have visited and spend time at the convent in Tegelen — is this true?

In fact, he may still be resident at the convent in Teleglen – is this true?

If so, did you, Mother Immaculata invite Fr Kirby to come and reside at the convent?

If you did so, did you seek the permission of the community by vote?

If Fr Kirby did visit the convent, did Fr Kirby have the written permission of the Bishop of Meath, Thomas Deenihan to visit and reside in the convent?

If Fr Kirby did visit the convent in Tegelen, did he celebrate the sacraments?

If so, was Fr Kirby in possession of a letter of good standing and a celebret from the Ordinary of the Diocese of Meath, Bishop Thomas Deenihan?

If Fr Kirby is not resident at the convent, at the time of this writing, do you know the precise location of Fr Mark Kirby?

Are you in contact with Fr Kirby?

Are the two novices previously resident at Silverstream Priory still with Fr. Kirby?

If Fr Kirby was/is staying at the convent in Tegelen given the controversy was his presence made known to the Ordinary of the Diocese of Roermond, Bishop Smeets?

Mother Immaculata, because I believe transparency is good for the Church, I will be placing a copy of this e-mail on my blog, which attracts a very wide readership across the world.

Agree with you re Anderson is rightfully(within his rights per se) demanding re letter of good standing. I couldn’t understand why Anderson didn’t pursue if that’s the impression that I got, although I could be wrong there cos I don’t know the full story re issuing a letter of good standing. But Anderson should be issued with this letter to clear his name and resume his religious vocation.
It looks like from an outsider perspective that DMK been given a letter of good standing hence his hopping from one diocese to another over many years even with Bishops approval and perhaps their knowledge re DMK as well if I’m correct.
NY diocese treatment of Anderson had been shocking to the extreme even naming him in ‘perps corner’. Its akin to defamation I think although I’m no legal expert

From the outside looking in, it very much does look as if DMK has received a letter of good standing. The same DMK who has been credibly accused of harassment. The same DMK who has been credibly accused of breaking the confessional seal.
Dom Benedict Andersen then had a dubious claim made against him. We were previously informed that all canonical charges were dropped. Why then must Dom Benedict Andersen be left in limbo. +TD must explain. If not, why not?

Excellent letter Bishop Pat – asking all the right questions. Maybe one day RCC will learn that providing closure on all outstanding issues & prompt implementation of transparency without exception is the “only” way forward. A very tall order given the long ingrained culture & ethos of suppression & victimisation of whistleblowers that exists in Roman Catholic Church worldwide. Obviously a very worrying time for Abbot Purcells sexual partners within religious houses and elsewhere. How on earth can any of these 2 faced con artists expect anyone to take them seriously – they fall into only 2 categories- they are either “at it” or completely invested & complicit in covering up for abuse & wrong doing. I work in a private health clinic that provides sti screening, and the amount of married men, clergy from both denominations that avail of the service would shock even the most liberal person.
Usually clergy would get tested a few weeks after they come back from holidays abroad, which indicates to us at the clinic that they may not be having sex at home.

Speculation about the HIV status of Mark Kirby is unhelpful. If Kirby is HIV positive then he needs the assistance of a medical professional. He is not the first cleric to be HIV positive and he certainly will not be the last.
The focus should be why the Bishop of Meath continues to allow this toxic saga to continue! Why has Silverstream not been suppressed? If Deenihan thinks Silverstream is going to develop into a great abbey to rival monasteries like Fontgombault or Barroux in France he is totally deluded. A small community of predominantly naive Americans living in Ireland with their folksy Catholicism with a founder mired in scandal does not have a future.
I do wonder why Deenihan (who has no knowledge of canon law) has permitted a non-ordained brother (who we are told is addicted to gay porn) to exercise jurisdiction of men who are clerics? What was and is Deenihan thinking? Was he following the advice of Coffey in Glenstal who has JCL in canon law? If so Coffey gave him bad advice and will come back to haunt Deenihan in the future.
If an accusation is made against Kirby while he is outside Silverstream things could get very serious for Deenihan and the Diocese of Meath. It could be expensive and Deenihan will be left exposed looking very foolish.

It was said about 15 years ago the German Catholic people donated a life size statue of a German nun expected to be canonised to the Vatican. The statue was made in a marble village in Italy where Michael Angelo got his marble . The statue was worth a few million. Also it was either north or south Korea who ordered a life size statue of David around the same time.

I was lunching the other day and spotted the Priest that performed my nephews wedding. He was out of gear and opposite him sat, what could only be described as, a loved up puppy.
