A WOMAN who claimed she suffered clerical sexual abuse as a child over 40 years ago is to receive £150,000 damages.
The pay-out forms part of a settlement reached in cases taken against the Catholic Church.
Now in her late fifties, the woman sued over her alleged treatment as an 11-year-old child in Banbridge, Co Down during the 1970s, according to her lawyer.
Proceedings were issued against both the Diocese of Dromore and priest Aidan Hamill.
In the High Court on Wednesday, counsel for the woman, Patrick Lyttle QC, announced that both actions have been resolved, with judgment against both defendants.
Mr Justice McAlinden then declared: “The action is now settled in the sum of £150,000 damages.”
The defendants are also to pay the plaintiff’s legal costs, the judge added.
Outside court the woman’s solicitor described her as “a survivor of historical clerical child abuse”.
Claire McKeegan said: “Our client is relieved that this ordeal has been concluded in her favour.
“This settlement today is further vindication for her.”

I have hard evidence suggesting that a number of clergy from Portsmouth, Clifton and Plymouth are neo nazis, who attend meetings dressed in SS uniforms and other nazi uniforms, seig heil one another and toast the Fuhrer. These same clergy are also infatuated with French Royalty and long for a time when European facism was acceptable.

This child-sexual-abuse seems to have happened in the nineteen-seventies, and hopefully there’s a lot less of it today.
When we rightly censure the RCC clergy for Grindr and drug-addiction we should remember that that there are worse vices.
One big cause of the RCC’s problems is the Celibacy Rule.
LikeLike
Old Joe, how do you explain rampant abuse in Protestant ecclesial communities and in social services children’s homes, where there is no celibacy requirement, or the far higher rates in families compared with Catholic clergy? The Australian Royal Commission on abuse found that rates were higher among Protestant institutions than in Catholic ones.

I did say that the Celibacy Rule was ONE big cause of the RCC’s problems.
God,through Saint Paul in his letter to Titus, stipulates that men in authority in the Church should be ‘above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers’.
Religious Leadership roles do attract psychopaths – https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyclay/2013/01/05/the-top-10-jobs-that-attract-psychopaths/?sh=1cec496b4d80
So yes, there are problems with Protestant clergy too,but generally not to the extent that there are with RCC priests.

I disagree with you regarding celibacy being the cause of abuse. I think the main reason for the abuse crisis is that so many psychosexually and emotionally immature men have been ordained to the priesthood. Homosexuality is demonised in our society and gay men enter the priesthood as a way of concealing and dealing with their sexuality. This creates a toxic culture of secrecy and blackmail.

In the third world, particularly Africa, gays are still persecuted. Consequently, African Catholic men will be drawn to the priesthood.
I am young, and I know a lot of gen z and millennial Catholics. Yes, even in contemporary society, there still exists young men who are not comfortable coming out and becoming a preist is a a way of dealing with their sexuality. I have met them, several of them.
In 2000, I was 10 years old. You will remember the reprehensible ‘Keep the Clause campaign’ which was led by the homophobic Cardinal Winning. Only two decades ago, the situation in Glasgow for gays was very different to what it is now. I have met Glaswegian gays who have waited years to come out, sometimes in their 30s. Where I grew up (England) it was common to come out in sixth form. These days, kids come out at secondary school. In spite of being politically more left wing than the English, the Scots are a homophobic bunch in comparison. It’s the main reason I dislike West of Scotland Catholicism. Glasgow got +Winning and Westminster got +Hulme. I think the former has caused a lot of harm for gay Catholics in Scotland and he is the cause of the culture of homophobia in the Church in the West of Scotland.
There exists not one pastoral Mass or group for LGBT Catholics in Scotland. However, there are several gay conversion therapy groups, the Courage apostolate.
The Catholic Church still treats its gay children like crap. I am a convert, but I would be a lot more fucked up than I already am had I grown up Catholic. God bless Father Jim Martin SJ.

The Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon in Southeastern France has been ordered to halt this year’s priestly ordinations after a Vatican “visitation” raised concerns over its seminary program
Bishop Dominique Rey. The Vatican suspended the ordination of new priests in the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon on Thursday 2 June.
Bishop Dominique Rey, who has led the diocese since 2000, was to ordain four priests and six deacons and priests on June 26.
The ceremony was to be especially significant this year, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the diocesan seminary of Castille, a place that has produced numerous priestly vocations.

How many more historic cases of abuse remain covered up, concealed and hidden?
People have no idea of the burden, suffering and pain victims/survivors carry; the existential

Continuing to cover up historic cases is outrageous highlighting the hollowness of Papal or Hierarchical apologies. Does Church teaching include the belief those ordained to the priesthood are superior christians and/or humans vis-a-vis ordination/ontological change…etc…?

No, the Church does not teach this and it is obvious that the Church doesn’t teach this.
Our Lady is the firstborn of all creation, the greatest of all God’s creatures and the most loved. And yet she lacks the character of sacramental priesthood.
Likewise, St Francis of Assisi is probably the greatest of all the medieval saints. He was a lowly deacon, and not a preist.
Clericalism has always existed but Our Lord is clear that the first will be last and the last will be first. God is the great equaliser.

Stupid comment. The question was not do you have to be a priest to be above most humans in the heavenly hierarchy.

Why ever not? She bore Christ. Even the bad cult operatives said we are invited to bear Christ, whether we are clergy or not.
They made a pretence of pointing us to the CCC (to stay in good books) but by that time I had seen through it already.

8.31: That’s nonsense. We are changed insofar as we truly become CHRIST in all things. Grace builds on nature and we, as priests, are to strive to be Christ always. Ordination does not automatically confer perfect geace in us. Living a life of CHRIST LIKENESS each moment is the only way. Prayer is absolutely essential in this goal. I fail daily as I suspect most priest do and others, if totally honest. I last heard the word “ontological” in college in the 70’s. Life’s experiences teaches the greatest truths.

To adhere strictly to the text: it’s true. But, so has every member of Christ’s mystical body. Including you. Have you not been aware of your privilege and your responsibility?

Can someone enlighten me as to whether the Armagh Diocesan Adviser to Primary Education has left the priesthood? Amy Martin has apparently worked wonders for that one.
