DID PHONSIE SHOW HORRIFIED TEENAGERS A LIVE ABORTION FILM IN LOURDES IN 2019?

PHONSIE THE DESPICABLE

In recent days the blog has learned about a disturbing series of events that took place during the 2019 diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes from Waterford & Lismore that was led Phonsie Cullinan.

It is my understanding that during the pilgrimage and without parental consent a group of young people were shown a video by Phonsie that showed in graphic detail the full process of an abortion.

We have been unable to ascertain if the video was the well-known anti-abortion firm, The Silent Scream, or whether it was one of the more graphic videos produced by American-based conservatives.

We have been assured (by a serving cleric from Waterford and Lismore) that the presentation of the video was supplied by people from Opus Dei with the explicit approval of Phonsie. And, I believe that Phonsie was present for the showing of the video.

Understandably, the graphic video created significant distress for the young people present who had (I understand) no forewarning about what they were going to be shown. Abortion is a grave evil, however, the utterly misguided actions by the people from Opus Dei and Phonsie is wholly detrimental to the pro-life cause. It can be argued that this action in the long-run was counter-productive to the pro-life cause as it will strengthen the pro-choice leanings of these young people. It will also further alienate them from the sacramental life of the Church.

Phonsie was unable I am told to defend the indefensible.

He had no answer as to why the video was shown without parental consent.

I’m told there was two stand up rows between Phonsie and the pilgrimage leaders.

He could not understand or empathise with the upset/distress of the children to the dismay of the parents.

I am told that some of the young people, who had telephoned their parents in great distress, returned to Ireland the following day. And this experience has left them with a very negative experience of what should have been a joyous and faith-filled pilgrimage to Lourdes.

This is, of course, yet another example in a litany of poor decision-making by the great moral crusader, Phonsie the Dispicacle of Waterford.

As readers of my blog will know, I have been extremely critical of Phonsie. This criticism is justified and proportionate.

In the most obdurate fashion Phonsie failed to deal with the allegations that were repeatedly brought to his attention about Fr. Richard Purcell, the former Abbot of Mount Melleray Abbey.

At any time Phonsie could have removed by Decree – Purcell’s faculties in the Diocese of Waterford & Lismore. Instead, he took every opportunity to further deepen the scandal by concelebrating the Eucharist in public with Purcell.

Time and time again we have learned that those who are considered to be the most “CONSERVATIVE” bishops are often the most corrupt and the most immoral. So-called conservative bishops utilise a theologically conservative façade to shield their own immoral lives and to further disguise the fact that they are tortured and cruel individuals. Often, too, they are gay.

The sexual orientation of Phonsie is really irrelevant, however, one can persuasively argue that his indifference to the wrong-doing of Richard Purcell makes him “gay friendly” which is distinctly at variance with his very public moral crusading. #isphonsieinthecloset.

I am told that the gossip among the priests of Waterford and Lismore is that Phonsie is gay and that he lacks the insight to self-acknowledge this reality within himself. Of course, clerics are very bitchy but can the priests of that diocese be wrong?

I predict that Phonsie Cullinane will have a dramatic fall from grace!

And, Pat, you could have compared Phonsie’s treatment of Richard P with his treatment of Richard G.
Fr Chas Brown was the nuncio when this episcopal mess started. Did Brown even train as a diplomat. For an insight into Brown’s past, read Angela Hanley’s book on the hounding of the late Fr Seán Fagan S.M.

11:45pm once again this exemplifies why church safeguarding & church involvement in schools is a complete farce, why do these clergy even want to be involved in travel with school kids & surely Bishop Cullinan realised that he should have obtained parental consent. At the very least he deserves to be thumped by a large mammy handbag not wishing to trivialise the wider aspects of his presumptuous arrogance.

Phonsie looks positively evil in that photo, scary looking man. Horrific abuse of his power when students left in his care but hardly a surprise, it appears Fintan Monahan and his predecessors took no action on Jerry Carey taking school girls to red light districts on school outings also without prior parental permission 😏

Don’t forget Bishop Phonsie ticked off the Irish Government during the unprecedented global Covid 19 pandemic because his precious basket fillers were prevented from attending church. He appears to believe that he is a law unto himself and after his carry on during Covid when thousands of Irish people died, there should be a Government Health Warning tattooed to his forehead, just like the cigarette boxes. He appears to not have any respect for the rights and safety of others, it’s his own self interest first all the time & every time. Most of them like that now.

The deluded disgruntled predictable reject myth is peddled by some priests on this blog. It is reasonable to believe some, if not a considerable number of these individuals ordinations were ‘highly questionable’, and some were completely unsuitable. This is particularly the case in more recent years. Men leave seminary before ordination for a variety of reasons. Such is life.

Absolutely shocking. It is beyond unbelievable that this could have occurred.
First and foremost these are technically snuff movies and should be banned full stop. Never mind the fact that the women will not see any of this – they are under anaesthetic – once again I re-iterate the decision to abort is a woman’s decision alone. Women are not baby factories for the happiness of the general public and if a woman wishes to abort she must be allowed do it.
Secondly to do this to a group of young people – without warning – is despicable. It is a blatant and blunt attempt to brainwash and frighten. I am not religious but I would like to think that these trips to holy places should be happy occasions where people connect with God etc and are hardly the place for the Catholic propaganda machine to go in to full swing. I can only hope the youngsters were not permanently affected by this. Some people would be extremely sensitive to gore/horror and this stuff can do lasting damage to the psyche.
I have had the misfortune to meet Phonsie a few times and he is a deeply unpleasant and aggressive man, who can just about keep it under control in public. He left LIT after a while, presumably because a progressive third level college with a large arts department had scant regard for an Opus Dei fruitcake.
What is really interest is that Phonsie thought he could get away with this while everyone is looking -imagine what he thinks he could get away with with nobody watching him!!
Pat this should be sent to the Sunday World or the Irish times. it is shocking and needs to be exposed.

Marshall McLuhan warned of the intense nature of films. Objective fact isn’t per se reinforced by them (they are meant simply to illustrate). This horrific individual has as much contempt for the minds of those whose lack of entitlement he despises, as he has for what little mind he has himself. His basis is the hellish Roman system itself.
Morals which he hasn’t got are a matter of morale as Julian Baggini pointed out. Moral-IS-ing is a way to destroy morale by introducing social superiority and inferiority. Young people should be reckoned moral to start with then moral things will be accessible to them. Does Fons think they don’t come from as “nice” families as he did? Prayers and pious company would strengthen them (whether OL of Lourdes specifically does or not), not the message that they have got to get shocked because they are nasty.
On a journey away from home they need travelling mercies: he doesn’t because he is a jet setter. I haven’t seen the film, I’m convinced it is not a fabrication and that it was published in good faith for judicious use. I confine myself to reading a summary in order to feel rightly sad about a relatively unjustified scale of relatively less justified abortions due to sex mad incontinent and unprayerful body theologians since before 1959. Its publishers are not to be blamed for the offences of this abominable personage.

+Pat, if there is evidence that an adult movie was shown to children on an excursion than as a mandated person you are legally obliged to report it as possible child abuse to An Garda Síochána. One aspect of child abuse in the Republic is that it carries extra-territorial jurisdiction. If an Irish citizen abuses a child the DPP can (and will) prosecute no matter the geographical location involved.

Like

Not questioning the suggestion at all but is Pat a mandated reporter? My understanding is he resides in the UK which has no mandatory reporting in law, and isn’t in employment so wouldn’t have a contractual obligation? Am I missing something?

You are correct in what you say, but how do you prove guilt if these others are not publically publishing that they had evidence to report and failed to do so.

8.54am So far this blog is referring to “children” on a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Could they have been teenagers/adults? Once they reach 13 years of age, they are considered teenagers. I have never heard of young children going on excursions abroad. Were they national school children or secondary school? I am a teacher and we take our Transition Year pupils on several tours but in all my years teaching I have never heard of young children going on any pilgrimages. Children go on tours with their teachers but it would be just for a day, before their school holidays. Once a person reaches the age of 17 he/she is a consenting adult. Must have a chat with my colleagues on Tuesday in relation to this article. Questions need to be answered if this is the case that young children were allowed to go on pilgrimage abroad without their parents.

11:56 “consent” is a mandatory requirement, not based on an “assumption” on the part of the perpetrator(s) to do as they please with persons over the age of 13 nor indeed any age, Ms McM….

11.56: Ciara, most Diocesan pilgrimages to Lourdes bring a cohort of young ternagers/adults to act as minders/carers of the sick and elderly. The volunterrs are usually transition year students and as far as I’m aware, they are trained beforehand and are under the supervision of adults once in Lourdes. Obviously all who travel as guides or helpers are garda vetted. The only other type of pilgrimage I know of is for disabled children which are stringently organised and supervised. There have been incidents of inappropriate behaviour by some priests re: possible abuse and overstepoing of boundaries. I believe it’s vital for young people with parental consent to be knowledgeable of all moral and ethical issues about abortion. However, the context has to be totally correct, sensitive and supervised, be it in a school or home setting. What do we do when we know the horrendous videos which young people have access to through their mobile phones or lap tops – pornography, violence, bullying, masochism, extremes of gay sex…etc? What do we do when 12/23/14 year olds engage in ugly “sexting”, harrassment and bullying on their mobile phones? We know in some violent rapes that easy access to pornography is a contributory factor. Where is our outrage at these horrors? I do not condone the showing of the video to “young” people in Lourdes without parental consent. I abhor abortion and am deeply saddened that we have strayed way beyond what we were told would only be “safe, legal and rare” abortion?? Who can we really trust?

6.34pm. You obviously don’t know much about english gramnar. Your comment is very uneducated. As a chairperson for many years on school boards, one of the most difficult tasks was to elect new school boards. As is required for the election, all parents are invited to attend a meeting to nominate and elect parent’s representatives. Out of a school of 265 pupils, on the two occasions of electing new boards of management, approximately 10 parents turned up on both occasions. I attempted over many years to appoint someone other than myself to act as chairperson. Where I was successful in doing so, I ended up with two retired teachers. They were both fantastic, had the necessary experience, insights and knowledge vis a vis parents/guardians, department of education, safeguarding procedures and were up to date on new and relevant department policies and pertinent to running a school. How horribly ignorant and bullying of you to be so disingenuous, lying, out of touch and degrading of those who volunteer to work on School Boards of Management. Sadly, I’ve met your kind of cynical critics who are usually the last to do anything other than complain. Let me ask you the following: Werd you ever on a School Board or Parents Association? Did you attend meetings to elect such? What’s your present involvement with any school if you have children? Did you ever fundraise for any school? Did you ever give gratitude to a principal or chairperson or class teacher or Parents Association for their sacrifices and hard work for your child’s education? In 43 years of school involvement, I have not encountered the caricature and scenario you paint. Challenges, staff difficulties, parent’s dissatisfaction and concerns, the odd bad teacher…YES, but the LIE you created: NEVER. I have been very blessed and enriched by the teachers, lay and religious, school boards and parent’s associations all through the years. I am glad that for the last 9 years my capacity is that of chaplain only. I now believe this should be my only role.

In April 2017 the Catholic Bishop of Waterford called for the Government to set up a commission of investigation into Bill Kenneally, a paedophile who is currently serving a 14-year sentence. Victims wanted a Commission of Investigation and had met the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore Bishop Cullinan. Victims alleged Monsignor John Shine, an uncle of Kenneally, knew from at least 2002 or before that his nephew had abused at least one boy but that he did nothing about it. Monsignor Shine denied the allegations, saying he knew nothing about the abuse in the past and that he had done nothing wrong. The victims wrote to Pope Francis via the Papal Nuncio’s office in Dublin demanding he use his authority to force the removal of Monsignor Shine from the school board. Monsignor Shine subsequently resigned however a spokesperson for the Diocese said the resignation was not due to the victims having written to the Pope. Bill Kenneallys victims wanted the role of Fianna Fáil, the Gardaí, the former South Eastern Health Board and the Catholic Church investigated to ascertain who knew what and when, and they met with the then Minister for Justice who deemed an inquiry into the matter in the public best interests. I believe the inquiry eventually began late 2018 and is still ongoing. Will the inquiry report ever see the light of day or are ‘the powers that be’ dragging their feet waiting for particular individuals considered pillars of the community in Waterford to die?

The bigger crime isn’t showing the abortion film to them youngsters. The bigger crime is bringing them to Lourdes. Why do people have to go to Lourdes to pray? Or Fatima….Lough Derg……Megujorie or anywhere else? Jesus never said that we should be shrine hopping.

Bishop Pat this awful Phonsie in Lourdes incident with young adults/teenagers reminds me of the previous world youth day events. Young Irish adults/teenagers entrusted to clergy to look after them but the young lads got more attention of the younger priests.
They stole their underwear and tried to swap numbers whilst telling them to keep such contact hush hush. What a scandal.

Why is that a scandal? That’s a normal day for them – the church is about the clergy getting their rocks off.
Hadn’t you noticed?

I think we all need to be more relaxed in life, love each other and especially our clergy, who I believe are genuinely good men, I am sure there are bad eggs also. I love the Parish Priest in my life, he is a good man.

You really are a gullible fool.
There is no such thing as a good priest, every one a self-serving parasite.

That’s wonderful Melanie, but don’t love him to death. The man needs to breathe too! If you love something, let it go and it will come back to you. Don’t love like Lenny!
