PHONSIE DAY 2 – IN MY OPINION PHONSIE CULLINAN IS A SADIST!

Below are Phonsie’s clerical changes.

It is the first time in my life that I have seen a bishop print details of the so called “laicisation” of a priest.

This action by Phonsie in my opinion, shows Cullinane to be a sadist – a nasty sadist.

He published this information to deliberately and further hurt Father Geoghegan.

And in his piece he is telling a LIE!

It is NOT true that Father Geoghegan is no longer a priest. He is still, and always will be, a priest.

“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”

“Once a priest – always a priest”.

Father Geoghegan may no longer be a cleric in the RCC clerical caste.

In fact Father Geoghegan is still required by church law to extend the Last Rites to anyone in danger of death.

PHONSIE’S TREATMENT OF FATHER GEOGHEGAN

Phonsie treated Father Geoghegan in a totally despicable manner.

He generally sent for him at night time, after dark, and bullied him.

And Phonsie is a bully!

Father Geoghegan did not sign the forms put in front of him by Phonsie freely, willingly and without fear and intimidation.

The priest who accompanied Father Geoghegan to meet Phonsie was not a canon lawyer and not in a position to give him the best advice and protection.

I think that Father Geoghegan has a very arguable case with which to appeal to Rome.

Phonsie is heading for a fall.

Phonsie, believe me, is heading straight for his Waterloo !

The Church in Ireland is dying on it’s knees. Good priests gone. Bad seminarians bursting into Holy Orders while they figure themselves out. Only three types of priest remain, the bad, the institutionalised and the trapped.
The reason the best leave is because The Holy Spirit is protecting them. The reason some of us are institutionalised or trapped is to keep the message alive. The reason for bad priests is to keep us aware of tge need for renewal.
We all have our part to play….Fr Richard is a great man, one of the best. The Spirit has protected him and given him an option outside the institution because he is one of the best, the strongest…. we all have our part to play, even The Holy Spirit.

We pray for Fr Geoghegan at the hands of this evil cabal personified this tune in the image of Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan. We also hope that he has retained the services of a good lawyer.

Like

Pat, I don’t agree with your description of the Bishop as a “sadist”. That’s a very strong and serious accusation. I believe myself that Bishop Cullinan acts and speaks without thinking things through sufficiently and seems rarely to be aware of the implications of his words and actions. I agree with yiu that the information about Fr. Geoghegan was completely inappropriate and misjudged. Printing it adds a greater hurt to Fr. Richard and it is not the full story. The Bishop needs to think twice or thrice before speaking or issuing promulgations. While I am loathe to make judgments or wish harm on anyone or judge their spirituality or faith, Bishop Cullinan is making himself an unlikable person. God bless him and God bless Fr. Richard. Pat, you all look so alike in this photo. Like myself with losses, I wish I could turn back the hand of time. May God be kind to all our deceased loved ones..

@ 12:34 Thanks Toddy. There were some on this blog who questioned my credibility so I sent Pat a copy of the bank slip that shows the balance of Ger’s bank account back in July 2021 as well as a certain foreign currency cheque lodgement. I wonder where that came from? 🤔 Has Ger invested in a chipper over in the UK? The star witness in the case of the 5 figure sum in Ger’s bank account is his former best friend who many people in Ennis know doesn’t deal in bullshit…in fact, quite a number of people in Ennis & elsewhere have actually gone to him for help/counselling/advice. Some of the clergy reading this blog know exactly who I am referring to… Ger can continue to try and to cover up what he did and spread his false narrative about me that I am a nutter, etc. etc. but it won’t change the truth!!! In the meantime, Ger (and Jerry) will continue to suck a monthly salary from the Killaloe church coffers for as long as possible.

They will not be mentioned as they are getting NO appointments and furthermore Bishop Fintan is not going to say they are on Sabbatical when they are not.
I understand both have Canon lawyers against Bishop Fintan.
So as they say Ger and Jerry will be and should be toast.

Like

Fair play to Fintan. He gets a very hard time but at least is doing the right thing.
Ger Fitz has been very naughty and should apologise but Carey is a different level altogether.

Like

If a priest leaves ministry the Bishop can say he is no longer a priest of the Diocese. To say more is to breach the priests Data Protection Rights. Phonsie should be sued by Fr. Richard for what he published. The manner of exit is a private matter.

Like

@ 12:09 it is simply not credible to suggest that either of them have grounds for a Case against the Diocese of Killaloe. In particular Jerry Carey who culminated his long tenure in Killaloe courtesy of the Salthill arrest. By all accounts it seems that in any case he shouid have been terminated years ago. In light of his role as a School Chaplin, it is reasonable to surmise the seriousness of his offence was glossed over via the suspended sentence in the interests of protecting the schools reputation. Shame the likes of Monahan, Cullinane etc., do not exercise the same due diligence in assisting church abuse victims & survivors. Mafia they are. Fitzgerald drew his anti social intimidating possey on his victim, that’s the role & objective of certain lay volunteers in many parishes. Overall, a toxic cult.

Like

Carole that’s very interesting info. Would one of Ger’s minions hanging around on this blog like to make any comment?

Ger and Jerry think they have a case against the Diocese of Killaloe and only Canon Law will decide otherwise but sadly they have still got to get a salary from Killaloe.
Jerry thinks he has had counselling and he should be appointed to a parish thankfully Bishop Fintan and most Priests think otherwise.
Ger thinks what he has done is morally wrong and others make mistakes just like he has but Ger is still in the blame game for being foolish and again thinks he should move on and be appointed to another part of Killaloe Diocese.
Bishop Fintan is trying his best but it will be down to Cannon Law.
Can I say although I do not think in the case of Yvonne and Carole but this has happened in Dioceses before and they all kiss and make up and the dioceses is left to foot the bill.
Carole and Yvonne are hurt and it will heal so no one knows the outcome in the end although I do think Ger is finished as a member of the Presbyterate and will be entitled to come to Holy Mass as part of the laity.

Like

@ 4:54 Very hard to discern if what you are saying is true or not. A few months ago when I went on the blog, Ger’s friends circulated rumours here saying that he had resigned from the priesthood, that he is getting married, that the money in his account was a loan…yada yada yada. As was evident from the unpublished and abusive comments Pat received about me, Ger (via his minions) was still very busy slagging and slandering me. You say that Ger admits that what he has done (which part?) is morally wrong and thinks he should come back but it will be up to the Canon court to decide. Serious question: If there is a trial in Rome, can Yvonne and I give testimony?

If Ger or any Priest resigns their name would be removed from diocesan documents including the web site so the reason Ger and Jerry are c/o diocesan office is both are REFUSING to resign and therefore it will result in a Canonical Trial .
If they were on Sabbatical it would say sabbatical.
As for the Canonical trail it will be Bishop versus Jerry and Bishop versus Ger so you and Yvonne have NO need to give testimony as the Bishop will be using all the evidence from You, Yvonne and even Bishop Buckley as the Bishop has to defend those wounded like yourself and Yvonne and also his Diocese including Clergy, religious and Lay Faithful.

Irrespective of what this blog thinks I want to try and reassure you two thing the Bishop and Cleo strongly believes both of you and as for Jerry the courts found him guilty and the second is there is many Good Priests, Religious and Lay Faithful who only want to try their very best.

What part well Ger thinks he may have got thinks wrong and could have done it differently has he used the Sorry word as far as I can say not as yet but hopefully during the canonical process.

Although you and Yvonne get it on here big time from Ger’s fan club please be rest assured the Bishop and other Clergy get it big time as well.

There is no dojbt whatsoever that the outcome of Father Richard’s case is profoundly unsafe. A good canon lawyer would have it torn to shreds in a matter of minutes. The issue is more Phonsie’s chauvinism than any moral matter. It’s not immoral to decide to wear the clothes of the other sex, especially for a cabaret number. It happens in pantomime, seminary dramatic societies etc. Gender stereotypical clothes are a convention the breaking of which is not a crime, is not a moral matter, is nothing requiring any action, much less removal of faculties. The whole sorry matter is a mess of the first degree. Disgraceful. Shameful.

You are right, Pat. It doesn’t mean Fr Geoghegan is no longer a priest. It means his licence to practise has been revoked, and logically, that it can be restored at the stroke of a pen. Who accompanied Richard to the meetings, especially the last one?

If there are legitimate concerns about the Lourdes incident In the presenting of a film without parental consent, the way to deal with this is to put the concerns in writing to the Bishop and outline the many boundaries which were crossed. It is better to establish the full facts truthfully. It is also advisable to stay on the issue rather than denigrate the Bishop with dehumanizing language. The Bishop or his spokesperson must be accountable for what, as of now, is very concerning re: showing a film without parental consent. The addendum re: resignation of Fr. Richard is most insensitive and humiliating, designed deliberately to cause hurt. Personally, I am deeply saddened for Richard and totally disappointed by Bishop Cullinan by this vindictive behaviour..He most assuredly needs our prayers..

At a time when so many priests are on MIA lists, some for ‘highly questionable’ reasons,
why was it necessary for Bishop Alphonsus to make any reference to Fr. Richard Geoghegans ‘clerical status’? Did Richard commit some unwritten canonical crime, such as; do not jeopardize the Ordinaries career prospects by embarrassing the Ordinary publicly? In a societal context, when priests are being imprisoned for child sexual abuse, was this apparent precedent of Bishop Alphonsus prudent, just, and, above all, CHARITABLE? Regardless of the rights or wrongs of the matter, why, oh why, did he make any reference whatsoever to Fr. Richard in the Diocesan appointments? Was another agenda been furthered by the Bishop Alphonsus? If so, is this another example of feet, both, and shot!

Phonsie obviously deems this to be an open and shut case but too often not enough people speak up and just roll over. I hope Fr Richard will speak up as he’s been done a terrible injustice.

Like

I feel there is no right to appeal against a declaration of dismissal from the clerical state. The decree is considered a privilege rather than punitive in that the pope is removing the obligations of the clerical state so you can live your chosen life. Richard could always seek a benign bishop who, after a period of rehabilitation, could petition Rome to reinstate him. He wouldn’t be ordained again; as bishop Pat says, he is a priest for all eternity.

According to a John Cooney article from 2006, the Irish Catholic bishops were so appalled by evidence of immoral behaviour among priests, that they secretly authorised the setting up of ‘House for Clergy Under Correction’. Cooney also mentions the bishops were so alarmed at the scale of the clerical scandals that they went to the extraordinary step of deliberately concealing from the faithful the true purpose for which inmates were sent to the detention centre in Waterford.
Whatever the exact nature of the peccadilloes of the clergy, the initiative for establishing the House came from the Brothers of Charity, who were based at Belmont Park in Waterford. According to Cooney, ‘literally, the Brothers were pushing an open door.’ Their proposal was granted by the Hierarchy in June 1945. The Brothers of Charity employed in 1956, Dr. Denis Lane O Kelly. The second section of the Murphy report on clerical sex abuse in the Dublin Archdiocese said Dr Lane O’Kelly, who died two weeks before his own trial in 2002, was tasked with treating a notorious child abuser Fr. Bill Carney. Dr Lane O’Kelly was subsequently the subject of a series of complaints by women he treated at Belmont Park Hospital in Waterford, which the Brothers of Charity Services operated until it closed in 1992.
The Mary Raftery two-part RTÉ documentary, “Behind the Walls”, broadcast on RTE late 2011, interviewed a number of women on the sexual abuse they had experienced by Dr. O Kelly. While complaints were made to the hospital authorities at the time of the incidents, dating back to the late 1970s early to mid-1980s, no action was taken. However, Dr O’Kelly was eventually formally charged by Gardaí in Waterford over allegations he sexually abused numerous female patients under his care. The Murphy report into The Dublin Archdiocese said the consultant psychiatrist (O Kelly) at the facility, which focused primarily on alcohol problems, began treating Bill Carney in September 1985 for alcohol problems. This is despite the fact “there is no evidence it [the facility] had any expertise in child sexual abuse”. The report also said that Dr O’Kelly was of the view Carney had the “possibility of a return to ministry in the new year” in a “controlled situation and subject to careful monitoring”. During the following year Dr O’Kelly informed the archdiocese he was “satisfied” with the progress of Carney, who had been placed in a ministry in south Dublin.
Carney — named as one of the worst serial offenders in the Murphy report — pleaded guilty to two counts of indecently assaulting altar boys in 1983. He was eventually defrocked by the Catholic Church in 1992 after being found guilty under canon law of child sex abuse. The Murphy report sited complaints or suspicions against him by 32 named individuals.
How many more paedophile priests in Dublin Archdiocese and other Dioceses throughout Ireland did Dr. Denis Lane O Kelly give the green light to return to ministry?

Every diocese on the Island of Ireland needs to be independently investigated.
Safeguarding MUST be completely independent of the RCC.

It is not old hat to victims of clergy abuse or Denis Lane O Kelly’s victims. The sister of a priest of the Waterford and Lismore diocese features in Mary Rafertys documentary.
I don’t think it is old hat to her family, relatives and friends.

Your daily reminder at 4:49 that the faithful want to forget about the abuse scandal, don’t care, and have learned nothing from it. In fact would rather the church’s victims drop dead.

Indeed.
The long term strategy would appear to be a hold off for church’s victims to die off.
Of course some senior clerics, et al ,are still living- another consideration for RCC inaction.

7.37 Bishop Pat, they are even submitting their diaries to the blog incase Papa Francesca has an interest in their movements in relation to your well read outlet. Hope he has a spare room in Westbourne in case the homeless Nazarene calls for supper. Metamorphosis is a play of recent decades based on a Greek myth that the clergy of Ennis could stage in St Flannans for the edification of their people who are not in prison. They could ask that old judge along for badness.

Your Eminence, George ( Pell), I ask you to take an interest in this Father Geoghegan case, nothing more than you ever did yourself. I have the photograph ( a copy of ) and would never use it…ever. But something terrible has happened here for the benefit of only one thing; television. This Bishop Cullinane is a disgrace. I know you are aware of the state of affairs in Ireland; he is the worst. Congratulations Pat on your ordination anniversary. I was ordained at Pentecost, a very lovely feast day. May the Spirit bless us all these days. How so much has changed since the end of the 70’s and from thereon..None of us could have envisaged the tumultuous events which have changed the landscape of faith, religious belief and practices, ministry and Catholicism. Where do we go to from here? ” Lord, to whom shall we go”, as asked by the disciple Philip, is now our daily question. Of course, it MUST only be to CHRIST. Enjoy your anniversary, Pat.

I do not hide from the fact that I am a Vatican two kid much to some people’s disappointment and yes things change but I cringe when I see Clergy with their collars off and yesterday Archbishop Farrell forgetting his Mitre and Crozier then send out letters yours sincerely instead of yours in Christ.
I get the views above about fun dressing up for panto’s and Halloween but I would never accept a Priest dressing up as Shirley Bassey.
Since Bishop Pat is all in favour what do you think his idol is Dolly Parton and 9 to 5 🙂

Sad to hear of the desecration of a grave, but I do hope the finer details of the cover up by the state eventually comes out in all its glory; much like the Canonisation of JP11: to hide the enormity of what he did. L O’ M.

The Governance section of Towards Healing brought me a few thoughts this lazy Bank Holiday afternoon. You really could not make this stuff up. The solicitor has a background in “institution defence litigation” but maybe more of that again. The chair at the moment is a Greg Price, now he is clearly a luminary with his own mind and extensive critical faculties: (1) Hw worked for ( wait for it) the Quality Improvement Division of the HSE (2) He has an MBA from the Open University (3) He has an LLB from Griffith College. He has qualified as a barrister. He is clearly in the episcopal league of Deenihan from Hull and Dr. Rory Coyle from Lampeter University. You could not get more talent in Oxford, Princeton or the Sapienza. Blessed is the governance of Towards Healing….a real set of independent luminaries to say nothing of the sister of mercy (0r none) from Rulla in Rome. What a disaster of an entity….maybe Purcell was their best!!!!!!

In the comment at 6pm “Provenance always delivers the goods” there is a mention of Lampeter University.’ I believe that this institution validates the academic standards at the Beda College in Rome. When there was a less tangled web of higher educational establishments i.e. sixty years ago Lampeter functioned as a Training College for Methodist Ministers.

I have wondered how come it is that Methodists are validating Catholic Theological Qualifications. I am sure that an answer will be found amongst readers of this blog even if it does really only beg the queston.

As a matter of fact, degrees from the Pontifical Beda College are validated by St Mary’s University, Twickenham.

My comments about Lampeter are inaccurate. it was not primarily associated with Methodists but with the Church of England. it was still a non-Catholic Theological College and is now big on Islaam. My main question is still valid. Is it satisfactory for non-Catholics to “validate” Catholic theological qualifications?

Apparently Gardai in Waterford were aware of the Bill Kenneally case for a considerable period of time before arresting Mr. Kenneally in 2012.
” Despite Kenneally making verbal admissions to gardaí in 1987 about his activities, no prosecution was taken against the senior Fianna Fáil tallyman.
The family of the teen involved, who was not party to last week’s prosecution, refused to make a formal complaint.Gardaí did not take a formal statement from Kenneally because there was no complaint made.Gardaí did not launch a wider investigation at the time – and did not formally notify any of the sports clubs in which Kenneally was involved.
Officers accepted an assurance from Kenneally at the time that he was receiving expert medical help for his problem.”

Kenneally’s Uncle was Msnr John Shine who Pat has spoken highly off. It has emerged in Waterford in recent years, from just before his death that Shine may well have covered up a lot of what was happening.
