A Catholic priest in Armagh has appeared in court accused of voyeurism after he allegedly spied on a woman for sexual thrills.
Fr. Aidan Patrick McCann, 35, with an address at the parochial house on Maddens Row in Keady, County Armagh, appeared at the Craigavon Magistrates Court via video link from his solicitor’s office on Friday and confirmed that he understood the single charge that had been brought against him.
Fr. McCann is accused of voyeurism following an incident on March 28 after he allegedly observed a female “doing a private act knowing that the other person did not consent to being observed” for his own sexual gratification.
The Sunday World reports that the incident took place at a changing room at the Rushmere Shopping Centre, which is across the road from the Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Giving evidence to the court, Constable Mosgrove of the PSNI said she believed she could connect Fr. McCann to the offense.
Meanwhile, a prosecuting lawyer suggested that the case be adjourned “for some time” because the full case file was not due to be received until June 16.
District Judge Bernie Kelly agreed to put the case back until June 24.
Defence Solicitor Harry McCourt confirmed that he did not have any questions in relation to his client being charged with the offense.

A well-known Catholic priest in Ireland — who was vocally homophobic in his sermons — has been outed for having his own secret Grindr profile.
35-year-old Rory Coyle was a priest in Armagh, a town in Northern Ireland — until it was discovered that he’d been keeping a secret Grindr account, chock full of illicit selfies.
Coyle was outed when an unnamed source contacted the local Catholic newspaper to confess he’d sexted with the holy man on Grindr on several occasions.
In an email to the whistle-blower blog Thinking Catholicism, the source, who is over the age of 18, explains:
[Coyle] spoke to me on Grindr a few times and kept wanting to come to my mum’s house for sex with me while she was at work. He sent me lots of naked pics of himself too. When I realized who he was I sent them to a journalist along with the screenshots of his sex chat.”
Not long after that, the source says, Coyle’s Grindr account was deleted and his Facebook page deactivated.
“I assume the journalist contacted the diocese,” the source continues.
In the email, he goes on to call Coyle a “dirty bastard” and a “total pervert” who admitted via text to participating orgies, going to gay beaches, and renting rooms by the hour for “sex meets.”
“He’s just a hypocrite. Denouncing gay people from the pulpit and then shagging guys when no one is looking.”
Days after the story broke, Coyle was quietly removed from his clerical duties. His photo was also briefly removed from the Armagh Parish’s official website.
No explanation was given.

A pillar of the community who was highly respected in Tyrone GAA circles, Fr McVeigh has been on “sabbatical leave” after becoming embroiled in controversy after inadvertently showing gay pornographic slides to a group of parents.
Fr McVeigh denies the images were his and the PSNI says he has no case to answer.
But the controversy has refused to go away — with a bizarre series of subsequent events further adding to the intrigue.
These include the theft of a laptop and the circulation of rumours that Fr McVeigh was “set up” by persons
It all started on the night of March 26, when Fr McVeigh was using a laptop projector to give a presentation to 30 parents and one eight-year-old child on the forthcoming First Confession ceremony for pupils from St Mary’s Gaelscoil in the village.
In the course of his talk he managed to project 16 explicit images of naked men on to a large screen, much to the mortification of the parents present.
At first, Fr McVeigh continued his presentation oblivious to the graphic images that had flashed up in front of the unsuspecting audience.
Then by his own account he began shaking when he realised what had appeared on screen.
According to outraged parents, the priest, who has had a long and distinguished career, then whipped the memory stick from the laptop computer and “bolted” from the room without explanation.

A detail has always escaped observation since the tech. display. One of the three observers stated that the men in the photograph were wearing ” bishops hats.” I posit that it was in fact a photograph and the individuals in the photograph were known to the PP in question. It was not porn by the official definition, it was a photograph of naked clerics wearing mitres. Much bigger scandal than a simple display of a porn image. However, it was all avoided because he destroyed everything. His panicked departure and then return is the key to the mystery of it all. You could not make it up. Analogy is this when such a bathroom or toilet is totally violated, therefore a cleanup is required to restore it back to original state of it. Why didn’t the kildorrey Catholic laity protest it? Cos no faith, no belief, helpless, weak as that is probably a true reflective state of that parish. It might be true state of rcc in Ireland as a whole.
Crean doesn’t give a damn about it, nor does he re Catholic laity. In other words, he has a contempt for his Catholic flock or catholuc laity re his refusal to reconscreate kildorrey altar.
Best answer or solution to any of Kildorrey Catholics is to stop giving or donating your cash via Sunday collections to Crean or kildorrey parish or any other parish in Cloyne diocese and inform PP as to why won’t you donate it.

Let us not for get how the Bishops turned on Magee and said he should “do the right thing”. Little did they know that Magee would be the first of many…. however Magee had a defense the others often do not – magee was unaware that he appointed a VG to investigate their own cousin – because he was not native to Cloyne. Magee took the fall for the VG – and for not ensuring he was correctly informed about his own diocese. Amy should now “do the right thing” as well as Cream, Lugs, Waterford and a handful of others – not to mention Magee’s former VG who remained under the radar.

Magee was cruising and grooming my students in the 1970’s. I spoke with him to leave them alone. The Garda got a Rev Sister to go to him to stop him walking a cruising area in Co. Cork. There is a pandoras box unexplored there. The parish priest of Coalisland before his “tranfer” to Co Louth would have been Wilsons PP when he “entered” seminary. Paul Byrne was a Magee disciple and not in the 70’s. Now thats one bag of ugliness.

Quite a number of years ago, about 22.50, I was leaving the IFI in Temple Bar, as I went though the hallway, Michael was standing in front of me with what looked to me as three Maynooth students. I quipped to him ” Michael, still corrupting the young!” He was fuming and enquired of me what film I had seen. I told him ” I am still here.” Quick as lightning and with a bucketful of glee he retorted ” How apt !!” I enjoyed his quick wit as much as he enjoyed spitting it at me. Irish Bishops don’t give a damn about laity re Sunday ordinations BUT they still want yours-laity monies 🤷♀️. You can’t have it in both ways.

A thought came into my mind yesterday that rcc isn’t normal, dysfunctional and whose (bishops, cardinals et al) actions spoke of duplicitous @ hypocrisy re double lives.

Psych assessment might be needed although I’m not an expert. Alternatively, process him via Laciasation canon law procedure just like phonsie did to a priest.

In the past, I made a mistake in reporting to rcc instead of proper authorities. My late parents made the same mistake that I did cos they thought rcc and their priests was holy, cannot tell lies and above reproach and honest etc etc. That’s was 70s and 80s before I did in 2000’s.

Now my advice to you would be, keep in touch with PSNI re any developments if any. Document it everything even in the smallest detail if you can in the event that it might happen again.don’t ever inform rcc re your dealings with PSNI or lawyer. Keep rcc in the dark as possible cos you might gain a upper hand in the long runvre evidence, details so forth.
Best chance is through police route, get a lawyer if you can and go thru legal route (forget it re Canon law procedure cos its a laughing stock from what I heard).

Do I take it that + Pat is going to attend Wilson’s ordination ? And hopefully register in person an objection on the part of many of us that Wilson is not fit for ordination ? If that is the case, then I admire his courage and determination, although I expect that there will be many there who will try to prevent him being present. Mind you, + Armagh could avoid all of this by having listened to the many voices that are telling him things that he evidently does not want to hear. He could have listened and then he could have delayed Wilson’s ordination while the whole thing was properly investigated, rather than pushing on regardless, mostly to show that he will not be pushed around by the likes of + Pat. Well, now he will be having a sleepless night worrying about what might happen in public at the ordination ceremony. I hope that + Pat will be successful. Remember, he has taken on smaller men than + Armagh in the past !

Pat threatened to turn up for a Confirmation in Co. Derry. The PP was so afraid he had parishioners at the church gate standing guard to prevent Pat gaining access. The Archbishop didn’t even show in the end and the poor Monsignor of Beragh had to stand in. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is security tomorrow. Its the bishop and what surrounds him. As a wise man once said to me when I raised shackles about Y; Bradley Cooper, sometimes the only solution to a problem is to ordain it. Pat at 3:36 Older readers may remember Peter Wyngarde whose nickname was Petunia Winegum, although contrary to appearances he was an actor, not a priest. He had a ‘misunderstanding’ with a gentleman in a toilet in Gloucester. He’d used that excuse and when he got arrested for the same misunderstanding in Birmingham told police it was a ‘mental aberration’.

Seems what I would call sleeves turn out to be “socks.” I had unscrewed the three pieces of hish big ssstick and was putting them in their pouches, he was observing it and not best pleased that I was putting each piece in the wrong “sock.” For Fuck Sake!!!!! Whatever about the misgivings or doubts that surround Priest to be, Wilson, surely the behaviour of bully boys on the blog today cannot be justified under any circumstances. I am not fully aware of any or all of the alleged accusations against Mr. Wilson but the outpouring of scorn against him is very immoral, unkind and unchristian. I cannot imagine the sense of anxiety and fear in his heart right now. I am completely baffled as to why there is such gleeful anticipation that the entire occasion will fail spectacularly and that this man will be publicly humiliated in front of family, relatives, friends and colleagues. It’s as if the Calvary cohort who pushed Jesus to the Cross and nailed him have resurrected and are determined to push Deacon Wilson into a deep black hole. Talk is very cheap from behind a laptop. Wonder though, will all these hidden, supposed great icons of virtue and heroism stand up in the Church tomorrow and express their objections, including Pat? Now this will require courage.

From what I can glean from this blog, it appears that Wilson had some intimate connection with the incident on the altar at Kildorrey. If there is even the faintest glimmer of truth in that then + Amy must not ordain him until such time as the whole matter has been properly investigated and the young man is assessed afresh, and at the very least put through some rather rigorous retraining. To ordain a man who has taken part in the desecration of an altar is an abomination. It seems to me that + Amy has just blithely ignored all the evidence and gone ahead out of arrogance and because he is unwilling to accept anything that + Pat might have as evidence. And if Wilson has anything about him, then he needs to withdraw himself from his planned ordination and show some humility and respect for the legitimate concerns of many people about him being ordained. Until he and + Amy show any willingness to deal with this matter, he will forever be seen as suspect and his ordination will be seen as something that has a whiff of illegitimacy about it. He will never get away from this. If he had any sense he would pause now before it is too late, If. he did so, and addressed the issues that are outstanding, and was seen to sincerely confront these issues, then maybe, just maybe, in the future he could be ordained because he would be seen to be truly penitent and to have done his best to reform and convert. He is treading a very dangerous path for his future, I am afraid, and he should think very carefully about it.

The usual return on investment for young priests is 5 years, ie they minister for five years before discovering themselves and leaving/going MIA. This is a poor return for 6 or 7 years of formation at a cost of around £300k. Can they not be encouraged to discover themselves before ordination and thus avoid all the heartache?

In the 1980s, Fr Frank Duhig, the respected Junior Dean of Maynooth, used to directly ask seminarians if they were gay, if he thought that they might be gay. If they said “yes” (and some did tell the truth) they were asked to leave.

Rcc oppressed a lot of gay and lesbian society re their Catholic statement in the past. Many were forced to leave rcc or denied their right to marry in church and Now, all of a sudden, rcc are welcoming them into their arms after all these years, what gives?

Rcc oppressed a lot of women re their bodies, refused to ordain women priests, the issue of celibacy to avoid women claims on rcc properties which were funded by the laity themselves as its tax free. Rcc is a misygonic organisation with such examples of homosexuality at the highest levels in the Vatican. Sodano, farrell, mc Carrick et al. Its sort of ‘anti woman’ Church whose majority, regular mass goers were lots of women. This is something that I dont get it.
Rcc used to be anti disability organisation as they usually have negative views of people with disabilities. They once said to us in cabra, u can’t become a doctor or an engineer or an architect. To my eyes rcc was seen as anti progressive organisation. They campaigned hard for a oral language in deaf education, that is alien to our sense of language. Oral language is English with oral approach of teaching as they don’t get it re deaf people don’t have perfect speech. Mother language is always sign language before English. They became experts in deaf education just an anology teaching the blind how to walk unaided, teaching the deaf to hear (which was and is impossible). Such was their deluded or grandiose aspirations in rcc that time.
That’s their method of oppression as they did it again to certain native community in Canada whose visceral response was to burned down rcc churches.
Its all about money at the end of day as they Bishop of Dublin owned deaf village in cabra. I never set my foot there cos a friend I knew, emigrated to America said to me one day, far too many cctvs there,dont go there as there was/ is no privacy when it comes to any sign language that’s quite visual. He was warned by deaf village board and barred from entering it. Its board of directors stuffed with hearies who don’t have a foggiest clue about deaf culture with rcc reps. That very same board who got embroiled over huge expenses scandal with a bottle of wine costing 10k and got their names splashed over the papers. That guy who was involved in red Cross charity I think. Governance was the key issue there that rcc was quite poor at.
Rcc is in fact a quite oppressive organisation, it ranges from Spanish inquisition, burning of heretical women at stake, banning galileo for his scientific views, banning deaf people to become a professional occupation. That’s largely relevant here in Ireland cos they had influenced the govt of the day whose attitudes persists to this day. Rcc should be restricted to purely religious matters, not schools or any other areas outside of their religion such as hospitals, disabilities centres( cos its money spinner exercise plus their cosseted status as a tax free income.).
Why pay a full attention to today ordination given the fact that rcc is a largely oppressive, and repressive organisation as well which doesn’t make any sense. I have no interest in going there if I was invited. Its pointless. The surest way is to make them look ridicule and irrelevancy.

The Monks in Roscrea are money hungry. Malachy enjoys the finer things in life. Malachy spent years creating an image based on the ‘working class Dub’ from Finglas. He now orders wine that costs €75 a bottle. The college is being mismanaged and it’s about time the Dept of Education audited the college accounts. It’s hard to see how an invoice from a wine distributor should be classified as ‘staff expenses’.

I see the Roscrea Cistercians continue to court controversy. When you see that the school board is stuffed with past pupils such as Conor Brady who was Irish Times editor and Garda ombudsman I cannot understand how these men stay on a board when such mismanagement is going on. I know some past pupils left the board 2 or 3 years ago as there was a big argument about the financial management of the school. Those departing are only replaced by more naive past pupils. It is the same cycle every 2-3 years. I left Cistercian College in 1987. It was the same back then but their was a strong abbot who took responsibility. Now a board of governors made up of mainly lay people are landed with all the trouble and the abbey hide behind them. We all know where the real decisions are being made. It is inside the abbey walls.

The lifecycle of competent people in Roscrea is 2-5 years, then they get sense and realise the monks are impossible to deal with. Anyone who lasts longer than five years are either clueless, spineless or both.

Ronnie Culliton Is a chartered accountant and a financial advisor. He had to depart as the central bank would have an issue when the financial stuff comes out. He was the one who Richard Purcell made go to the past pupils to commit money. I’m a past pupil, the pressure put on us at the time was very intense. Ronnie made clear that he was asking on the abbot’s behalf. Purcell was determined to get the money in, I do not know what happened it. It is all very strange.

Kenny Hall was mentioned earlier as attending the ordinations in Armagh today. Why would the Church of Ireland minister from Enniskillen be at ordinations in Armagh? He is quite friendly with the Catholic clergy in Enniskillen but can’t understand why he would be in Armagh today.

I’ve witnessed Many Tridentine Ordinations and I know that the matter form and intention as the Church requires is present. Wouldn’t be sure any of these are present at the Novus Ordo I prefer the Latin liturgy and have no bother following it thank you very much.☺

Since the Second Vatican Council the liturgical sense is not to have ritual Masses such as ordinations on major liturgical feasts like the two mentioned here. Instead, the liturgies of those feasts and solemnities should be celebrated. The late great Patrick McGoldrick of Maynooth made this point ever year towards the end of his course on liturgy with First Divinity.

There’s a mismatch between people’s expectations of seminarians and contemporary reality. In a nutshell it’s that many expect seminarians of 2020’s to have lived like their counterparts of 1960’s. This is unrealistic and counterproductive. The majority of 21st century seminarians will not be school leavers. They will have had jobs, careers, salaries, independence, experience of other cultures. They will have grown up in a highly sexualised social environment where teenagers are engaging in sexual activity at increasingly younger ages, where the link between such activity and procreation is weaker than ever before.
It’s extremely unwise to expect such socials conditions are not going to influence any candidate for seminary in the 2020’s. In short people are setting expectations for seminarians today that they themselves or their children would struggle to live up to.

What they do appear to be invested in is victim blaming, gaslighting and villifying victims & survivors who speak out.
