Went to medj twice way back, was in apparition room twice with 3 kids that time. TBH, I didn’t feel anything there as I saw one visiting priest sweating with bit of fear.
1st visit to medj got me a job as I was surprised . Met one of habsburg ex royal family from Austria there and certain Finbarr o leary now deceased.
2nd visit, v cold place as it was Dec, absolutely freezing as I could feel the cold inside my fingers. Felt something wasn’t right there.

This post contains stuff about diocesan land deals (in order to make up for the shortfall in income due to smaller congregations and offerings); Phonsie and Medjugorje (both ridiculous concepts); and clergy changes (more moving of the deckchairs on the decks of the sinking Barque of Peter). The Roman Catholic Church only sees and hears what it wants to see and hear. Understand that and you will understand why they have decades of history of being complicit in covering up all manner of abuse and wrong doing.

It is no wonder that so many lay people are leaving the Church. Equally, many priests are very disillusioned with the Church and if they are able many of them pull up stumps and retire early. It is difficult for many priests to do this because their whole livelihood and living is tied up with continuing ministering until they reach 75 and even then they are still tied to the apron strings. But those who are fortunate to be able to find a way out and not have to rely on the Church, well many do so. I know a lot of priests who have done this. No wonder bishops don’t want to consider any change to the clerical way of life, because if priests had proper salaries, pension provision etc, they would be off sooner than later. Why do priests feel disillusioned ? Well, I think many of them have seen through the silly nonsense of Catholic doctrine and tradition that they were brought up on and forced fed in the seminary. Most of it contrived and irrelevant. Their experience in ministry has taught many of them that there are more significant things that the Church should be concerning itself with rather than trying to fool the people with all sorts of silliness and keeping people in line with the threat of hell and damnation. People are wiser and better educated than before, often more so than the priests themselves most of whom have some spurious “BD” from some third rate ecclesiastical institution. Also, priests know what contempt they are held in these days, especially after the revelations of the abuse scandals in their various forms. Trust in clergy has fallen to an all time low. Those that remain find that they are now just. having more and more put on them as they get older, because the Church refuses to address the issue of lack of vocations, which remains in the ‘too difficult’ file. More and more clergy want out if they are able. That says something, doesn’t I ?!

12:27. I commented at 11:22. I am no longer a Catholic and was never a Cathbot (whatever that is). Years ago I stopped going to Mass and after several years with no connection to any denomination I started to attend a Presbyterian church here in NI, which I now feel part of. I am much happier and urge anyone who finds membership of the RCC to be burdensome or damaging to go elsewhere, whether that is to Pat or one of the other denominations.

I also, of course, recognise that the traffic is two-way in that many people join the RCC, but for me the relief has been immense and I have inner peace. No longer do I fret and worry about the RCC or waste my energy and limited time on earth on the impossible task of getting reform from within; I just walked away.

Retired, making my own decisions, thinking carefully about what I hear in Church or from priests, and making my own way. It’s wonderful. I can do that within the Catholic Church. I’m not even afraid to tell the priest he’s talking a pile of shite if I think so. He probably doesn’t like it, but what can he do. He wants my money more ! So, it works for me. Anyhow the local Anglican Church has a bossy, butch, lesbian, female vicar who is ‘right on’. Not that I have anything against any of those individually, but put together in one person is a bit much. So, I\ll pass, thank you.

I believe that practices based on religious beliefs may provide some sense of significance for many who become completely dependent on its perceived benefits. On a practical level it certainly provides “significance” in terms of financial and status/prestige, for the purveyors of religion: those most anxious to preserve its “benefits”.
I believe its foundational beliefs are all a load of codswallop perpetuated and maintained by those “purveyors “, mainly the priestly caste.
Religious indoctrination on the impressionable young harnesses basic human psychological and emotional needs to understand and find relevance in our environment.
Christianity will simply become another minor belief system, just like all the other ones currently in vogue.

Perhaps read ‘Tales of Padre Pio’ by John McCaffery written many years ago.
If you’ve any doubts as to this man’s struggles it should dispel them.
I asked him twice in my life to help.
My baby niece was facing 7 hour brain surgery. Very touch and go.
Shes happy and healthy today.
My aunt was on life support for a month after surgery went wrong.
I asked her daughter to place a little relic beside the bed. 20 years later shes a very vibrant 80 year old.
Padre Pio suffered greatly in life and was twice suspended from priestly duties.
Worn out from a lifetime of service and passing over at 81 I’ve no doubt he continues to help people, free himself of all stress and pain.
Beware the denigraters.

There’s a huge amount of quality research evidence from the field of psychology from which to understand religion’s attraction and hold on people, especially the naive, gullible, malleable, and especially the needy craving reassurance. And high intelligence is no safeguard against it.

Karen I do see why you would be surprised but the lack of interest is easily explained by the audience here. A smaller proportion have checked out of the church completely so won’t be interested in advertising and the larger proportion have bought in so also aren’t advertising. In fact my own opinion would be that the entire world can be divided into those two groups so religious advertising is largely a waste of money. But you knew it is. 😃

In an earlier time in the church’s history a ‘vocation’ discerned like that would have been viewed with suspicion even if received at an approved apparition site. The fact it was received at a fake one means it is not an indicator of a vocation, or rather of delusion. Add to the list of upcoming changes in Waterford and Lismore that Shane O’Neill is moving to Maynooth, Edmond Cullinan (no known relation of Phonzie) has moved to Rome, Billy Meehan who has past 75 and is a Parish Priest in Clonmel seems to be stepping back in recent weeks and a lot of the masses in his parish are celebrated by a Nigerian Priest living in the town, a retired Parish Priest who has moved to the town in recent years, becoming more active since covid came, and John Nally who was in Maynooth with Phonzie and who moved on loan to the diocese for three years from Meath in the last 12 months. Jim Demead is listed up to recently as Parish Priest of Ballylooby but is not in the Parish with some time, instead living in Cappoquin and many of the masses in Ballylooby were celebrated by an elderly Franciscan Priest based in Clonmel or a priest in a neighbouring parish.

Fr. Jim Denmead of W&L diocese has gone from AP back to PP. Is this normal practice?
When Fr. Richard Geoghegan lived in St. Mary’s Parish in Clonmel, the PP (Fr. Billy Meehan) wouldn’t allow him to celebrate Mass whilst a Nigerian Priest (residing in another parish) said Mass every morning at 7:45am. Fr. Billy Meehan NEVER celebrated the early morning Mass.
