A KERRY MYSTERY – MARK MORIARITY’S ORDINATION TO THE DIACONATE.

MARK MORIARITY was ordained a deacon in Killarney catgedral on Sunday.

A number if Kerry priests were surprised by the ordination

They had been led to believe that Ray Browne had told Mark that he would not be ordained and should prepare himself to return to Civvy Street.

In fact, the priests had been told that Ray had placed Mark in an empty presbytery to complete his studies in order to get a job in the real world.

Earlier, they had been told that Ray Browne had ordered Mark to lose some weight?

A bit like Nicholls did to Fr Tom Montgomery when he was a seminarian in Rome and had a “brush” with an Aussie seminarian with pecs and self defence talents.

FR TOM MONTGOMERY

WHY DID RAY DO A TURN ABOUT ON MARK?

Everyone is wondering why Ray had a change of heart on Mark.

Could it be that Mark knows a lot about Mayooth abd other clergy?

Was it a matter of keeping Mark in the tent, pissing out rather than the other way around?

Apparently, Mark will minister as a Deacon in Tralee.

AND, did Mark have to sign an affidavit for Ray?

Very often the only way out for a priest is if he has access to alternative funding, because when he leaves the diocese will wipe their hands of him. So, those priests who have family money or had chaplaincies / roles that pay a pension, or a benefactor – they are the ones who can think about moving on if they want to. I suggest that many priests would leave by age 60 /65 if they had the chance. They are tired, disillusioned, fed up, unsupported, put on and. just want out. But without dosh it is well nigh impossible. Sounds as though Eddie Clare had options. Although, I seem to remember that there was something else going on there too that may have prompted him ?

Disappeared, out of sight and never mentioned. I don’t think anybody really knows what happened, maybe a woman, maybe a man. There are a number of them in Brum who have just disappeared. John Gilbert is another. Suddenly gone and no news at all, even to his parishioners. All of these cases have some secret, hidden side to them, which will involve some kind of mishap, misbehaviour, questionable behaviour, etc. etc. A priest does not just go MIA for no reason. Life is too comfortable for them to give up, even if they think that what they are doing and teaching is a load of shite. A few in Brum are sidelined, out of ministry, but still around and still hang on the edges. They have no option. They have no other means of support and rely on the diocese to keep them and house them. What a miserable existence. The only ones we do know something about are the ones in prison, the likes of Bede Walsh etc. Surely he must be getting to the end of his sentence and due for release ? Anybody know anything about that ?

Maybe he got fed up with it all and decided to through in the towel. There is a crisis in the workplace among those aged 50+ who chose not to return to work after the pandemic. Many people reevaluated their lives. I suspect some priests who are fortunate enough to be financially independent or have the means to find alternative work decide enough is enough.

Ah, Monty. A blast from the past. He’s in Northwood at present, has put a few noses out of joint, but seems to be keeping within the bounds. For the moment. Let’s see how the next year goes. If he behaves and shows that he is able to keep on an even keel, he will not be kept any eye on so closely by Vin and the Westminster pezzi grossi. I guess Monty will always be a bit of problem, especially if he takes to the drink too much. But at present, all appear quiet. So, I wish him well and hope he is growing up and settling down. Otherwise, Vin will come down on him like a ton of bricks…….Although, Vinnie probably isn’t going to be around too much longer himself, surely ?

Ordination, like blessing, is a load of old fanny: sleight of hand and/or a jumble of meaningless words. Yes, we have to face facts here: God KNOWINGLY calls paedos to the priesthood FOREKNOWING that they will rape little children and that his faithful priests, right up to the papacy, will cover all this up and, by doing so, facilitate the further abuse of children.
God is love? Absolutely! Just like his priests. 😕

Like

12:36 Yes. The ‘holy’ ones will hate that notion so I’ll add this one to it. If the church is holy, then self evidently the true church will be one where children aren’t raped.
This is merely logical, and I would suggest it is the real reason the Roman church can’t even begin to face up to their problem of abuse, because logically it disproves their claims.

Like

Michael at 4:17, I will risk reigniting the pash you have for me to remind you of one thing. If a man were to say ‘I want to be a priest’, let alone to add, ‘Because it brings me all these worldly benefits and is better than being a plumber,’ he would be strikingly honest.
And you know honesty about motivation and drives of all sorts is my territory, not God’s. Otherwise we would all know the real reason Mary was pregnant.

Like

12.36
But do we really know the facts here? All of them?
I, too, (though great in God, and knowledgeable to gnosis) am puzzled by the moral character of many ‘called to the priesthood’, as you humans say. I should love to ask God why he calls such men (if, indeed, he does), but I daren’t risk being found presumptiously impertinent by asking such a question; don’t want to end up, like Satan, where the grass most certainly isn’t greener, but sorta scorched. So, I remain silent, except that even my silence speaks to God. Jesus! Is their no privacy here at all?!😕
Anyway, I’ve been giving the matter some independent thought, of late especially, since the topic of paedophile priests and their facilitation in the church is, well, hotly topical now.
Here’s a what-if. What if God DOESN’T call anyone to the priesthood, but leaves such decisions to human interest and inclination? This would mean that God is not responsible for what transpires when these men, for whatever reasons, become priests, ostensibly to serve God, but, in reality, to slake their baser appetites.
Or, what if God DOES call to priesthood, but cannot stop Satan, for his own malevolent purposes, from doing likewise?
Sáty! Can you settle a monologic debate here? Do you (what’s the word? ‘vocate’? ‘drive’? whatever. 😕) really bring these men to the priesthood? Not knowing is making my life hell at the moment. So to speak. 😊

Like

3.52

(Long sigh 😧) I fear you are right, Sáty. Thank you for being candid. A pleasant disproof for those who unthinkingly calumnise you (tch!) as the supreme liar.

If I’ve understood you, then these men pursue priesthood as a means to self-aggrandisement? It’s … all making sense to me now. A penny long past dropping, to be honest. (And I always am. 😇) It is priesthood these men desire, not God. Hence, their trail of human corruption, broken lives and spirits, and ever-growing disillusionment among believers with the existence of providential compassion and care.

I think I myself can answer my question now: you have no need to bring to the priesthood any of these men, have you, since they have sufficient self-interest to bring themselves? Yes?

Listen! Let’s get together soon for some of that wickedly strong beer you brew down there. HE/SHE/THEY is/are off incarnating in another universe and, given the number of them HE/SHE/THEY created, will be gone for an absolute eternity.😉

On the general theme of vocations and ordinations, the one group that is really investing in the future are the Jesuits who are building a new noviciate in Birmingham, spending millions on it, in a nice bit of town. It’s for Ireland, GB, and some of the Low Countries, and they evidently think it’s not going to be a white elephant. What do they know that the rest of us do not know ?! Mind you, their vocations are of a bit of a higher quality than the usual diocesan seminary crowd, and their system of formation and training a lot more comprehensive and thought through. Maybe seminaries could learn from them ?

Of course there will, because that’s how history has always gone. There are a few problems stopping a revival for the present though:
1. The church has done nothing to inspire confidence since the abuse scandal broke. Pat’s blog helps to give the public the accurate impression that the clergy don’t give a shit. As long as those clergy hold the power and nothing changes in the church’s treatment of people or the public perception, it won’t happen.
2. The church doesn’t understand the current causes for its decline or actively resists them (see 1). This has been seized on by the lace and latin brigade, whose inadequate understanding of history and pretty well everything else, makes them blame the decline on Vatican 2.
3. The surrounding society is less interested in religion than in the past which will militate against it.
4. I don’t know the stats for Ireland but if shifts in religion elsewhere in the world towards Islam and evangelical Christianity are also mirrored in Ireland that would help to prevent a renewal.
5. Currently what onlookers see in the church is a lot of infighting, bitching and politicking. Honestly this gives a terrible impression, and regardless of what Catholics think about it, to the onlooker it disproves the religion.
6. Racism towards clergy coming from other parts of the world to help out has the same effect.
My prediction would be it will have to die out and start again, currently its recent history is too bad and it’s just not functioning at all.

A medical condition? Sure.😉
Your excuse reminds me of the scene in A.J. Cronin’s novel, ‘The Keys of the Kingdom’. The missioner priest is advising a grossly obese woman: ‘Eat less. The Gates of Paradise are Narrow.”
Later, his superior chides him, and says that the woman has a ‘glandular condition’. 😅😅😅
People, especially priests, will always make excuses for their sins rather than face being morally challenged about their behaviour. It’s called trying to serve two masters at once: God and Mammon.

Like

The thing about the medical condition thing is not that you can’t get them but they should stop you being accepted. For example I’ve had real difficulty keeping weight off since being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis but if I applied for priesthood I would expect not to be accepted because I’m decrepit and couldn’t perform in an active life.

The problem is people are accepted into priesthood who would be managed through the door in a proper job.

I recall listening, as a child, to a very fat priest who was preaching from one of those old, wooden pulpits. On finishing (and thank the Lord he did!), he turned to exit, but couldnt, being so fat, get through the narrow opening. For an amusing length of time, he pushed, heaved, and grunted until, finally, he almost catapulted himself through. The only thing missing were bags of popcorn for the congregation, and permission to bellylaugh. (No pun meant.) You knew him, Pat, or knew of him. He had a passion for collecting antiques: other people’s, usually old dears in his parish.

I won’t name him, since he committed suicide.

Ah yes the mystery of Eddie Clare and John Gilbert both senior clergy in Birmingham and Eddie Clare the Director of Maryvale.

Both v close to Tim Menezes the former VG and the line manager of Jane Jones, the Safeguarding Officer they blame for everything: oh they do like to have a layperson to blame.

Omertà reigns supreme in Birmingham but these two MIAs stand out like a sore thumb and one day the truth will out.

Imagine Eddie Clare just walked or was he pushed? He was the Vocation Director too for years and years. Not a good look and the mind boggles as to what really went on!! There’s always a backstory but my o my do they want to keep this one under wraps.

As for John Gilbert – something fishy here too and a creepy neo fascist, high control, dictator with a certain penchant for prisons and young people – saw himself as something of an expert on both. He’s drawn to the vulnerable.

Wasn’t he in line to be the Dean of St Chads but got dropped like a hot potatoe and lo and behold Tim Menezes pops up to be the new Dean.

All v strange but give it time the truth will bubble up to the surface – it always does, the clergy can keep stum for a while and eventually it comes out!!

Elsie hates/loathes overweight or chubby clergy – he’s v harsh and judgmental on this issue – so does Carmel who eats like a sick sparrow and bitches about them all – but especially the fat ones.

If Elsie had his way he’d surround himself only with the pretty gay clergy who adore him – he’s like George Michael surrounding himself with supermodels!!

Kerr was in Burford for years and has retired to Cheltenham. What a bitchy old Queen he was and is – love seeing him defend Newman as a raging heterosexual as opposed to the effete queer we know and love – funny that rather like Ker.

Couve was a fecking nightmare – like Dan Leonard the VG he died afraid and on the ropes – they know they did wrong and I doubt slept soundly or knew the comfort of a clean conscience.
As for intellectual- he was chaplain to Cambridge as was his lover boy Osman and both suffered from the delusion that they were intellectual- when both patently Dim Tim’s.

5:32 I love that his sole evidence that Newman was straight was Newman writing about having a wife or girlfriend. Once. At a young age.
What I love even better is the shrill, defensive tone in which he does it.

Talking of Tim’s – why did Couve clutch Tim Menezes from Oscott?
Was he an academic?
Or saintly/holy?
Or for what other reason did he catch Couves eye?

Like

He was undoubtedly slimmer back then – the joke was that he was FOEP full of Eastern Promise as in the Turkish Delight advert – he, Walker and Sean Connolly were inseparable.

Fr Ker was a notorious parish and pastoral dodger with his head in books and up his own wee arse unlike our wee Fr McDonagh

Gargantuan Laddy be a darling won’t you and try and keep up, there’s a luv.
Now let’s begin at the v beginning keeping it nice and simple:
The Charity Barnardos did a report which exposed the Archdiocese of Birmingham as identitying Joe Quigley as a struggling priest and not a dangerous sexual predator. They thought ah bless Joe Quigley he’s immoral and sinful but having sex with a 16 year old lad – well that’s just struggling!!
BBC Kenyan – ah now this is old hat but the investigative journalist Paul Kenyan did an expose on Birmingham who insisted they had no idea where the dangerous sexual predator Fr Robinson was – he was in California and they were paying him a healthy monthly stipend.
Hope that helps clear that up – anything else on Birmingham don’t hesitate to ask – less a dioces more a criminal enterprise.

Those two are bound to be more than a little self-conscious when out in public. Oh! I’ve just been unintentionally ironic there. They ARE out in public, since most in these isles know that both have featured on this blog for far less than pious reasons.

Imagine being tortured by the thought that everyone around you knows what you got up to, and why. 😅

Knowing that everyone knows you’re a total, freakin’ fraud.😅

The game’s up, lads, and not just for those two clowns. 😕

Ian Kerr was ordained for Portsmouth – moved to Birmingham now lives in Clifton.
Kerr and Osman hated their bishops – Kerr hated Hollis and Osman hated the old fart who Roche took over from whose name escapes m.

Very adept at the snub and ‘your my friend’ and ‘your not.’
Very edifying for a Shepherd of Gods People – a right moody bitch.

Yeah that helps a lot – I secretly always thought Couve was like Pope Emeritus Benedict in that he enjoys a nice furry pussy too.

And I’m sure Couve ogling a bird with big tits in the front row was a common occurance old giglio that he was!!!!!!!

Your diocese is a disgrace, an embarassment. 2-3 victims of one priest given no publuc apology and minimal therapy while you run Facebook ads to lure in more stupid sheep. You had a wanker in Galway. Where are the public apologies to victims?

7.25 On a history tour in Limerick City this evening with my buddy TB. Who comes up to us in the old Protestant graveyard at St. John’s? A certain monk from Glenstal who was looking for the grave of John Cusack, the priest catcher from Kilkishen 🤣. Had I not been with the group, I would have asked him if he feels comfortable with the fact that they broke the Benedictine rule and refused me the retreat that was promised me. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him as he drove off in a nice, new, shiny black car. C’est la vie.

9.22 I was replying to Canon Todd, not to you anonymous minion. Just like Michael the Narc and Satan talk to each other, I have the same privilege. Thank God for free speech.

Shameful behaviour from both Glenstal and Killaloe. Windbag Monahan with the Danger Wank priest in Galway and GF running amok yet no public apology for their carry on. Hope you enjoyed the tour at least.

10.48 The tour was fab. I received an unexpected gift from someone on the tour who had been to see my house a few weeks back. Shannonsiders are such lovely people 😊.

How interesting that Monsignor was FOEP back then – yes cuddles now for sure – close to Walker for sure – whose the top, whose the bottom? Walker always seems smitten with his more bossy and dominant paramour.
And close to Clare for sure in Rome -inseparable as you say (ah bless) but who is Sean Connelly? Is he still a priest? Haven’t heard of him?

Menzies went to Oscott at 18 he has no experience of life outside the priesthood in Birmingham every word that comes out of his mouth is Novus Ordo message even his banning anyone from St Chads who wouldn’t wear a mask long after the regulations changed “ Its good to be with you today as we celebrate today’s celebration but for the times when we haven’t perhaps been as welcoming as we should Lord have mercy…”

In fairness he is more discreet than rawhide Purcell. Hop along Thompson would stand out in the Boilerhouse. Unlike Purcell and Hennessy.

Moriarty looks like a Mafia type priest. I would be scared going to confessions to him especially in that thong.. How did he manage to get in to the RCC club was it some secret rendezvous..I shudder..

That Moriarty looks like the double of that wee William Crawley from BBC Radio Ulster’s Talkback programme. Crawley is only just a tiny wee patch on the real Talkback legend Dunseith. Pat from over the back always loved it before she deed God rest her.

And Longley is known to like buxom women with big arses – he was heard to say, after saying Mass on the Hagley Rd, fag in one hand, a shot of whisky in the other, ‘Come on lads let’s go up Broad St and find us a nice bit of skirt.’
I know you’d never have thunk it but it’s the closeted repressed ones you have to watch!

Like

Is that a genuine quote from Longley or a Sid James line from ‘Carry On Up the Oratorian’ (1974)? You know the film: Kenneth Williams as the outrageous Provost and Charles Hawtrey as the tipsy curate… to say nothing of the delicious and aforementioned Hattie Jacques
