TIME TO SORT OUT THE DYSFUNCTIONAL IRISH CISTERCIANS.

As a seminarian and young priest I was in total awe of the Irish Cistercians.

I regarded them as living saints.

I never thought of becoming a Cistercian for two reasons:

1. I believed I was good enough and holy enough to be a Cistercian.

2. My priestly vocation was always focused on diocesan ministry and daily pastoral service of the People.

Mellifont was my favourite Cistercian monastery and I did many retreats there as a seminarian and young priest.

I was very disturbed when the abbot of Mellifont told me a out his long sexual history with men and women.

I was also disturbed by his roaming hands.

Yesterday I learned that Enda used to feel the bottoms of young novices and press his grain area against them.

At the beginning, I put that down to the fact that the more holy you are the more the Devil attacks you.

And maybe there is still some truth in that.

But then, like everyone else I heard of child abuse at the hands of Cistercian monks in acrs like Portglenone in Antrim and Caldey in Wales.

I also became conscious that monasteries like Portglenone were also hiding terrorists who had murdered and bombed.

And I also became aware that bishops in Ireland and elsewhere were secretly housing paedophile priests alcoholic priests and other offending priests in monasteries.

This was because bishops and monks saw sexual abuse as a SIN and not as a CRIME

THE PURCELL REVELATIONS

PURCELL

And then we discovered that the Lord Abbot of Mount Melleray – Dick Purcell was buggering Father Niall Dargan of Killaloe in Rocrea’s monastic kitchen.

And that he was a patron of the Boilerhouse sauna in Dublin

ROSCREA

We heard stories of financial problems, alcoholism and sexual activity at Roscrea.

EPISCOPAL SUPPORTERS

We discovered that Purcell had staunch episcopal supporters such as Lugs Monahan and The Fonz.

MELLIFONT

And then we hear of a woman made pregnant by a monk murdered by monastic supporters etc.

Not to mention Enda Ducey of the roaming hands, 18 bi sexual affairs and feeling up and pressing a groin against novices.

CONCLUSION

It is abuntly clear that the Irish Cistercians are in meltdown.

There are no vocations.

There are monasteries of dying old men.

There are financial issues.

There are homosexual monks and abbots ussues.

The Abbot General and his council in Rome need to immediately the 4 monasteries at Portglenone , Mellifont, Moone and Roscrea and create one new community at the mother house on Mount Mellerary.

They need to show the door to all BONKING MONKS, whether of the straight, homo or bi variety.

They need to seriously get back to their prayers and rule of life.

And they need to make all monks faithfully observe their four vows of

POVERTY

CHASTITY (CONVERSION OF LIFE)

POVERTY

STABILITY.

Otherwise, they should cash in all their property and investments, share the money with all members and clear off to Las Vagas, Monaco and Thailand.

Just to clarify, Cistercians take three vows:
Obedience
Conversion of life (Poverty and Chastity are intrinsic to this)
Stability – which is more about the community than the property.

Like

I often think that the later vows of poverty, chastity and obedience superceded the earlier monastic vows because there’s something about them that makes them difficult to get your head round. Not least that people think, does this mean they’re not celibate? 🫢🤫🤭

The many comments here which suggest that you know the church is on the right track when people attend, and you get priestly and religious vocations (usually based on a fantasy of pre V2 life), are so wrong. Silverstream disproves them because it’s full of vocations but utterly fake.
Actually the church is on the right track when relationships and priorities are right. By this I don’t suggest it has to be perfect, which is the deviant clergy’s way of making out their critics have unrealistic expectations, but no children raped, bottoms fondled, or creative accounting would be a good start.

Perhaps he did/does to both places, but only to make a difference, through example, for the moral better. After all, didn’t Jesus enter a sinful world, not a perfect one? Not to affirm the moral status quo, but to call the world to conversion? This couldn’t be done from afar, but only in the intimacy of actual human contact.

I think some believe this, Pat, but I doubt its veracity. Wouldn’t God have done so, had it been at all possible?
In order to experience sinful temptation AS WE DO (with fatally vitiated resistance through original sin, and, therefore, with predestined damnation), mustn’t God go where it can be known in this way, in order to overcome it?
God as God alone cannot experience temptation while similtaneously, like us, being unable to overcome it: he is, after all, God; he is stronger than evil; therefore, he could not have experienced temptation as we do without the incarnation.
No; there was no choice for God other than the self-emptying of Jesus for our salvation.
There is a rich and unending seam of theology in this truth, and the most powerful of all reasons for our surrendering to God’s self-sacrificing love.

But…..nothing is impossible to God?

The fact that God chose the way he did obviously means it was the best and most perfect way.

I think that is biblically figurative language, Pat, like other expressions in the Bible. For example, if your eye causes you offense, pluck it out.
Everything is possible to God, yes, but only within the boundaries of his laws. Again for example, God cannot be both good and evil similtaneously, and yet, call himself ‘holy’.

Pat, I’ve been looking into Mount Saint St. Joseph’s in Roscrea. The estate and church were purchased in late c19 with the help of Count Arthur John Moore, a Catholic nationalist landlord, MP and philanthropist. Moore also established St. Joseph’s Industrial School for boys in Clonmel which later became known as Ferryhouse…the Ryan report revealed that systematic physical & sexual child abuse went on at Ferryhouse for years at the hands of the Rosminians.
I wish to thank you Pat for your indefatigable efforts in exposing RCC corruption and for your care & concern of victims. It is very worrying that these monks still run an all boys boarding school attached to the Roscrea monastery. These young boys start school when only 11 or 12. Everything in the school is under the control of the abbey. We know what the then Abbot got up to in the monastery kitchen with Fr Niall Dargan. The Cistercians abuse their power, they obsessively control everything. They should not be running a school where young boys would fear saying no to a monk. The news section of the college website makes constant reference to the involvement of the monks in the school. Photos are included in these news stories. It is very very unusual that religious are so involved in a school. Other religious orders avoid such contact with children for very obvious reasons. I cannot see any safeguarding protocols on the school website . There are some very serious questions to by answered by the Cistercians about the running of Cistercian college.

@7.39am. Do you seriously think that the abbot of Roscrea had sex with someone in the kitchen? This is pure rumour and gossip. The kitchen is a public space. What fool would risk that when there were plenty of more private alternatives? People believe what they want to….Neil D’argan is entitled to his reputation and not to have it destroyed by nasty rumour. He is a private citizen and there is no legitimate public interest in these rumours, merely prurient titillation for those who probably have miserable sex lives themselves.

“ Fr. Malachy celebrated mass in the College Chapel for nine consecutive days for our Cistercian Community”. Why are the monks inflicting this on young people? The poor students are trapped in this place like it is a detention centre. The photos on the school website show the students in the abbey grounds and with monks. This is very odd. Are all the monks Garda vetted? They all have access to the young boys.

Like

Thank your for this. We all know policies are useless unless they are implemented. It is a serious question, asking if ALL the Monks are Garda vetted? In reality, the monks and students live on the same grounds. The monastery is an integral part of the school (as the school website keeps hammering home). What procedures are in place to protect the boys? We have been told about the wondering hands and the sexual activity of Cistercian abbots (Purcell and Ducey to name just two). The RCC likes to ignore dangers and potential problems. Unless ALL of the monks in Roscrea are Garda vetting they have a serious problem. Given the close proximity to the school they cannot restrict access to the monks, and it is a boarding school. The OCSO need to get a grip of there problems and deal with them. To have a safeguarding loophole in 2022 is unforgivable. I suggest that the abbot in Roscrea should email Bishop Buckley and assure him that all of the monks have been Garda vetted. I do not know where to start with the strange visitors the monastery gets…including past and current priests from the Killaloe diocese! If they are visiting the monastery they are visiting the school.

From CatholicIreland.net 2015:
“In its reviews of the Cistercians, the NBSCCCI said that overall the Order has been slow to implement all the child safeguarding standards to which it committed in 2009, but the safeguarding policies adopted in 2014 are quite comprehensive, addressing a majority of the criteria underpinning the standards.
Historically there had been gaps in safeguarding practice – in reporting to the civil authorities, in safety planning, in basic filing, in communication and in application of canonical processes – but the reviewers have seen evidence of improvements in most of these areas in recent years.
A total of 48 allegations of child sexual abuse were made against 21 Cistercian monks of which two were convicted on charges of child sexual abuse.
The majority of the monks subject of allegations are deceased (15), and is it noted that in 12 of these cases the monks were deceased at the time when the allegations were made.
Of the 6 men who are living, 3 have been laicised and/or have left the Order, and 3 continue to live in monasteries, 1 of whom is no longer active.
Monk A, who has been deceased for a number of years, was the subject of 14 allegations relating to 14 victims/survivors. Most of these allegations refer to abusive activity which took place in the 1970s in the monastery environment. Monk A was convicted of 5 charges of indecent assault of 3 children in the 1990s and given a suspended sentence of 4 years. Following his conviction a number of new allegations emerged. There is evidence that the Abbot reached out to victims, offered to meet with them, advised them to seek legal advice, and offered counselling services. Supervision of Monk A, in his later years was taken over directly by the Abbot. Monk A was not subjected to any canonical inquiry.
Monk B was convicted on child sexual abuse charges. According to the file he served a 2 year prison sentence, and a further 3 year suspended sentence for other sexual abuse offences.
Child abuse allegations were made against Monk E, concerning incidents which allegedly occurred between the 1950s and 1990s. The file records that there was a DPP decision in 1994 not to pursue prosecution in respect of the allegation made the previous year.
Restrictions on the monk were put in place over a period of 8 years, but were removed by an incoming Abbot.
It was explained to the reviewers that there were a number of temporary superiors in the monastery during this period, which had disrupted the safeguarding governance in the monastery
A supervision contract with Monk E containing restrictions has been in place since 2013, which is reviewed annually by the Abbot’s Council.”

RED FLAG ALERT!

Careful, Pat! You slipped into the RCC cultic, self-excusing mode with that dithering defence of yours for clerical immorality:

‘At the beginning, I put that (Enda Ducey’s lasciviously wandering hands and novices’ derrieres) down to the fact that the more holy you are, the more the Devil attacks you.’

It’s one of the great ‘unprovens’ of Christian spirituality, this assumption about personal holiness, and sin; but, if what you believe here is true, then, surely, grace to resist immoral temptation is commensurate.

Personal holiness, through grace, is not displayed by sin, but by doing good. Otherwise Jesus would have sinned, and we all would be damned.

Enda Ducey was no holy man. Don’t kid yourself about him.

Body language lesson 101:
what does that photo tell you???
Tell me what you see in your own terms.
From my viewpoint on that photo::
1. RP’s huge smile.
2. His ‘glow’.
3. His left hand on one of Malachy’s upper arms.
4. His body in front (not sideways).
5. RP’s eyes on Malachy’s eyes.
4. Malachy’s right hand on RP’s hips. (can’t see his left hand).
5. Malachy’s face s(look from sideways) show a smile as well.
All these are body language clues that could point to something more than we think.
There was a Twitter photo of him and Phonsie which i thought that was something more to that but I could be wrong.

11 other cases HSE records show the reporting date some three weeks after that provided

Its a huge place but it’s close by to Scouts Ireland. That said, which was strange re it’s proximity. That had me wondering cos one of my ex supervisor was heavily involved in boy scouts.
Could see in near future that Cabra school to be closed down as numbers are dwindling. Part of it to blame for was their historical abuses as I wouldn’t recommend any parent to send their son or daughter there. Also 2nd part reason of blame for was the rubella vaccine cos it reduced no’s of deaf in term of deaf population. 3rd part reason of blame was that school STILL run by Archbishop of Dublin along teachers salaries paid for by dept of education.
So lot of parents are sending their child to main stream schools with a units for special needs cos close to home and also they could check it out as well if things goes wrong.
Sometimes I can’t understand the logic of any parent to send any son to any boarding school nowadays. One of my ex math teacher who came from kerry as he went to Blackrock college as a well off boy. What came out of him was a bully teacher with a desire to fight etc. He was fired 10 years later – 10 years TOO LATE. He should be fired in his 1st year when deaf boys were sporting a shiner. So much for their cover up.
It was only years later I met a deaf guy from a family of generations (who continued to produce deaf children) who sent his son to Blackrock college. Guess what few years later, principal of Blackrock college appealed to that parent of his son to report any bullying etc. He was quite surprised to heat that re bullying that Blackrock college can’t control it etc.
If Roscrea can’t control the controllables, then it would be best to close it all down.
Next is Glenstal boarding school, which kept it going which had me puzzled.

I haven’t read M Trump book but I did watch videos of her talking about DT. It sounded like a typical dysfunctional family problem but far worse. Think she’s a qualified psychologist.
My question :
is it worth reading her book?🤷‍♀️
Dangerous case of DT, I have been in touch with one of their psychiatrist re violence. There was a lot of violence carried out in St Joseph’s, Cabra over the past decades. Mostly by the cbs and also by extension to deaf boys (bullies)as well.
We endured a lot of violence in Cabra by CBS cos they allowed it to fester long (breeding ground) while and also by means of control as well. But it did spil l over to some deaf boys and teachers as well.
Worst bullies were rugby players (some deaf who played rugby), being picked on for no reason etc, Limerick boys from southill (other rough areas) plus deaf boys from Northern Ireland. That was the worst part cos no protection from cbs as well. They were content to watch it but it came to themselves re violence ( it would need 3 cbs to do their job re huge belting etc).
One night I never forgotten was one Limerick deaf guy obviously a thug par excellence told us , keep away from that cbs as I didn’t understand it cos new boy etc.
Then that night, one cbs came staggering reeking with alcohol, looking for sex. That Limerick thug came barrelling at him with his fist in the dark of the night. We laughed at that cbs staggering, trying to get up. It was some scene to watch it like a movie. Even though I don’t like thugs but one thing he did protect us from being sexually abused. He was massive for his age and short fuse as well. Some CBS feared him which was a good thing, just a taste of their own medicine.
The reason I contacted psychiatrist re levels of violence in cabra. Hence my recommendation to parents not to send their deaf child there.
I explained to them (psych of dangerous case of DT) that I recognised that DT was dangerous in terms of violence pathology based on my experience in Cabra. His capacity for violence re’ lock them up, other rally chant’. They agreed with me but they had more psych knowledge than I have except for experience.
Just to give you a clue to see if you are quite attracted to violence , is to watch a movie called ‘Blood sport’. If it’s your first time, then it’s good. If you have seen it before then it might have faded. What I remembered was that attraction to violence via movie ‘blood sports’. I wondered where was that coming from. It tool me ages to realise that it was coming from Cabra.
If cathbots can’t see what DT is encouraging more violence. Then they must be blinded as to the issue of abortion that DT was angling for. DT supported same sex marriage afterwards after the election. He wouldn’t say it during the election cos that might cost lots lots of Catholic votes.

Malachy was very aware of what Rawhide Purcell was doing in the college, the abbey and in houses within the walls of the monastery. Malachy gained when Purcell left, it suited Thompson. Once Purcell was gone Thompson played his cards well. The photo in today’s blog is telling. Purcell’s downfall was dramatic. Malachy engineers dramatic events and he would have been in contact with the last Abbot general. Thompson would not have done Purcell any favours. I am surprised Thompson has avoided attention up to now. I am guessing that individuals who Thompson crossed are coming back to have their say. Once attention turns to Thompson anything could emerge. I have been visiting the monastery in Roscrea since 1998, I am shocked at everything that has emerged about the Cistercian order. These men have no shame. Thompson will be the focus of this blog for some time to come.

So the Nuncio must surely be putting the finishing touches to his Ternas/ae for East Anglia and Plymouth.
Possible candidates: Bishop Hudson; Bishop Sherrington; Mgr Philip Whitmore; Mgr Roger Reader; Canon Roger Taylor.
Have I missed any others for the shortlists? I think we can rule out Mgr James Curry. For a wild card, Fr Matt Blake? Though the Carmelites rely heavily on foreign priests to serve their three English communities.

2.39 Oscar Wilde wrote of his own Tradition that a bishop says at 70 what he was taught to say at 17, it applies here. Is it not one of the ignorant immaturities of clerical life; never to say what you really think, bound by assimilation to “The Borg” to forever spout the vacuous party line. The Archbishop did his best but the interview went nowhere, an erudite intelligent woman meeting the stone cold intransigence of what he kept referring to as “doctrine.”

People keep talking about Malachy Thompson as Superior of Roscrea he isnt! On August 2nd 2022 Malachy Thompson offered his resignation as superior ad nutum of Roscrea to the Father Immediate, Dom Brendan Freeman, who accepted it.

Yes and it was noted here. To be fair, though, what’s going on in these places is like a rollercoaster.

Has anyone told Malachy? He is still behaving like an Abbot! I have been told by a housemaster in the college that he has sent a 4 page letter to the school management about his expectations for the next academic year. The principal has been complaining about him to teachers and how he interfered in the timetabling of classes. He is still directing the board of governors about finances and fees. Malachy likes to be in charge, he will not surrender easily. The ‘resignation’ is a joke. Do not fool yourself.

Please stop calling my relative lugs Monaghan. Say it to his face he will let you know who he is. He is the Catholic Bishop and leader in Killaloe diocese. He has been appointed by Papa Francisco and is an open and friendly person. If you’re not happy with that we’ll go elsewhere. The problem with Ireland is that there are too many bigots and keyboard warriors and not enough prayers been said.

Your quote in Defence of Bishop Fintan Monahan @ 3.47pm reads as follows:

Are you authorised by The Bishop of Killaloe to issue threats on his behalf?

This is a very serious matter.

5.25 Hard to believe that Garret did not think there was Freemasonry in Irish politics. Well, if there wasn’t then, it is present at the highest levels now. Freemasonry is a lot healthier than its Roman Catholic equivalents. Membership of both or either is not mutually exclusive. George Pell and His Disgrace Dermot Martin are both Freemasons. I shall not name the high level politicians, I actually hold them in great respect. William Mulvihill

On returning to Leinster House, I summoned my government nominees and, meeting them individually, offered them portfolios. I saw the individually (rather than collectively, as Liam Cosgrave had done), so that I might have the opportunity of having a private word with each of them. I was concerned in particular to ensure that none of them was a member of any organisation of which membership was not a matter of public knowledge. In our state, as distinct from the United Kingdom, it was highly unlikely that Freemasonry played any role in politics; but there are comparable Roman Catholic organisations, membership of which may similarly not be a matter of public knowledge, and I believed that ministers should not be members of any such organisations, because no one should ever feel they had reason to fear that either their legitimate interests or the common good might be adversely affected because any member of a government led by me owed private allegiance to such a body.

6.10: You’ve obviously never worked in schools at any level. School Boards usually meet just 6 times a year. The principal is the person who ensures the day to day management is running smoothly. The monks are not as irresponsible as you contend. You have an agenda..

Like

The last chair of the board was the one who got past men to pony up the money. He was replaced by Malachy as he was having too much influence. He told pastmen that he was ‘shafted’. Replaced by a yes man who lets the monks run things.

Like

You miss the point. The monks are running Cistercian college. The principal is not able to stand up to them. The absent chair means this is allowed to happen. The school was on the verge of closing. Past pupils funded the school, these funds are now under the control of the abbey. This is not a regular secondary school, both the principal and president are directed by the monks. The education act dictates the board should be in charge of the school, the board gives the principal the authority to run the school. Roscrea is complicated by the fact they also have a President. I accept I never ran a school. I am however a past pupil who spent five years in the school. I still chat with former staff. I know the influence the monastery has on the college. They always controlled things.

Like

The board seems to be Dublin centric. I hope they know that they are doing. All rests on their shoulders if things go pear shaped. The charities act and companies act are unforgiving for corporate incompetence. Ignorance is no longer a defence. If past pupils money is being misused they have a problem.

7.46: I accept your observations. I have taught in a primary school for a short time, then studied for priesthood. I have vast experience of schools and management. Thankfully now I’m only chaplain. Obviously Secondary Day schools are different from boarding schools. From my experience of many years I have discovered thst if you have a competent, well experienced principal, schools generally run very well. I’ve worked with great principals and teachers but encountered some incompetent ones too. In late 70’s and into the 80’s, after ordination, I worked in schools run by Sisters of Mercy, Loreto and Holy Faith, primary and secondary and the religious principals were very competent, professional and nothing went amiss. They were strict at times but their management of their schools was exceptional. They taught me much about School Boards of Management and how to financially manage funds, grants etc…A good, committed principal generally means a good school….but you also must have a good chairperson with skills, knowledge and competency of management. Day schools can be very challenging places with all kinds of problems.. as I once experienced over a few years…Let’s just say – horrendous.

I’ve never understood this carry on in some Irish schools of having a principal and a separate president.

Typical of a bully. He will not surrender control. Staff in the school are nice to his face as they fear him. Behind Malachy’s back they say he is even more incompetent that the previous abbots.

The chairman of the board needs to get a grip. Apparently he lives in Dublin and only visits once every 6 weeks. The school is in chaos and the chair has no idea of what’s going on. The monks are of course directing what goes on.

Someone mentioned Monte Cassino earlier today. How Jesus wept!
The place has seen many destructions in its long history and the WW2 destruction was the fourth. The fifth destruction happened a few years ago fueled by cocaine, rent boys and orgiastic gay sex. Fr Michael Collins of Dublin could inform us more, being a good friend of the ousted abbot, Pietro Vittorelli. The poor abbot had a stroke or similar no doubt brought on by sniffing too much cocaine and too much SEX.
