ANOTHER VATICAN CARDINAL ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ABUSE!

https://catholicnews.com/cardinal-ouellet-vatican-official-among-clergy-accused-of-abuse-in-lawsuit/

MONTREAL (CNS) — Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Bishops, is named in a list of alleged abusers filed in support of a class-action lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Quebec.

The cardinal, a close adviser to Pope Francis, has been the prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, formerly the Congregation for Bishops, since 2010. He was appointed to the position by Pope Benedict XVI.

He is accused of actions allegedly committed against a young laywoman who was employed as a pastoral worker in 2008, when the cardinal was archbishop of Quebec. Court documents filed Aug. 16 indicate the actions consisted in “nonconsensual touching of a sexual nature.”

Another bishop appears in the list. Auxiliary Bishop Jean-Paul Labrie, who died in 2001, served in the Quebec Archdiocese from 1977 to 1995. In his case, the alleged abuse occurred in 1968 when he was the superior of the seminary of Saint-Victor de Beauce in Quebec.

The class-action suit was authorized by a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec May 19. It was filed on behalf of all “people having been sexually abused by a member of the diocesan clergy” or “by a religious, a lay pastoral staff member, an employee, and a lay or religious volunteer” under the responsibility of the Quebec Archdiocese between January 1, 1940, and the upcoming ruling in the case.

PAT SAYS

It is a shocking development surely to see a second senior Vatican accused of sexual abuse?

Shocking perhaps, but not unexpected.

Marc Oeullet is in charge of appointing all the bishops in the worldwide RCC.

It does seem, if he is guilty at all, that the accusations against him, are as a judge might say, at the lower end of the scale.

He stands accused of “nonconsensual touching of a sexual nature”.

No one of course should ever engage in such a behaviour against another human being.

It is more shocking when a priest, an indeed an archbishop does it.

It is ot only criminal but a great betrayal of a sacred trust.

We continue to have these revelations day after day for decades now.

There is no indication that they will stop soon.

Ordinary Catholics must now be suffering from severe sexual abuse revelation fatigue.

This new Quebec case is dealing with cases spanning 82 years – nearly a century of abuse.

THE BISHOP OF KILMORE MYSTERY DISAPPEARANCE?

MARTIN HAYES

Nobody has ever explained the sudden disappearance of the new bishop of Kilmore in Cavan.

He came.

He spent a short while.

He disappeared suddenly.

The VG told the priests not to pray for him publicly.

He reappeared suddenly.

No explanation?

“They” were so quiet and mysterious about it, it had all the hallmarks of being suspicious.

We were not even allowed to pray for him !!!!

What’s that about?

Maybe I’m just a suspicious type?

But this one does not lie easy with me.

Any insights out there?

RIP Mark Mooney, it is his 5th anniversary today. He did so much good around the church and is missed by all, especially his fellow sacristans Patrick and Brendan.

Like

Yes. If you have to ask that you still haven’t learned.
1. Revelations of abuse come decades after the event so are playing catch up.
2. The church has reluctantly made the least changes it can when forced by states.
3. Two things have apparently changed: bishops appear not to shuffle round kiddy fiddlers any more, they shuffle round priests accused of dodgy sex with adults instead.
What will come next:
The delay in reporting means reports will continue at the present rate for about another thirty years.
What happens then depends on what is actually happening now with safeguarding.
The revelations about the missions, nuns as sexual objects and churches in developing countries have barely started.
I would predict the next scandals will be more financial stuff, and revelations about possibly people trafficking or drugs.
Did I mention that the church is actually a criminal organization?

Bishop Pat, has Karen been in contact this morning. Her post yesterday about 2 trespassers taking photos was noted. Hope she and her family are ok?

Like

9.08 Everything is ok here except for what is not ok. Thank you very much for your concern. I don’t usually have a problem with people coming unannounced to see the house, but these two were acting strange and after I spoke to them they took off in a hurry. It’s all recorded on security cameras. What really bothers me now is the fact that someone has been sending some extremely personal details on my medical history to Pat which obviously will not be published. The only way the person who sent the comment could have known those particular details about me is from Fr Ger Fitzgerald. This means that Fr Ger Fitzgerald & Ennis Co. have been very busy trying to smear my reputation. I would expect nothing less from a corrupt priest and his like minded friends. It is just further confirmation of his true character and intentions.
Interesting that Fr Ger related a story in his new history booklet about a priest who was accused of having an “immoral relationship” with a woman. I wonder what made him include that bit—did he find it somewhat cathartic? Ger also had the chutzpah to mention Bishop Monahan in his booklet. I wonder what Fintan makes of that…I am sure Fintan does not appreciate the mention… after all, wasn’t Fr Ger the one who said that Fintan was “cowardly but nice”?
Msg to Fr Ger & Minions: You only make me more determined to expose you. The Chocolate Orange is only the tip of the iceberg…

Like

12.37 I have no concrete proof that Killaloe is spying on me so there’s no point in ringing the guards. I don’t normally ring the guards when there are trespassers; if trespassers are not causing any damage to the property and/or threatening us then there is really nothing within the law that can be done.

Like

12.42 Thank you. It is a serious matter. Pat and I are in regular contact. If anything happens to me at the hands of Fr Ger or his cohorts, then Pat will be the first to know. On second thought, I don’t think Ger actually has the guts to come after me himself; he uses his minions for the dirty work as evidenced by the anonymous unpublished comment sent to the blog today. A priest who would share such personal information about a parishioner in his Diocese is beyond reproach and beyond rehabilitation yet here he is still employed by Killaloe Diocese™️ and collecting his pay check. I don’t think Fr Ger has any intention of leaving the RCC. I hope he makes the most of it while the proverbial sun still shines…his day of reckoning will come.

Like

Are you saying that the diocese of Killaloe is spying on you and for what purpose? Intimidation?? Call the gardai and have trespassers removed, people need to feel safe in their home.

11.33. It’s Enemy of The State stuff allright, Karen. It’s very fortunate that you have this blog and Bishop Pats team to provide support. Sharing confidential, personal and medical information obtained via privilege of ones role as a Pastor or in any other professional or lay capacity linked to ones job in any organisation and without written consent is a very serious matter as well as being a breach data regulations. Remember to copy Pat so that he can cross reference with other cases. Take care.

12.22 His alleged appearance at the Cistercian monastery in Roscrea would suggest that he is being facilitated to remain in some capacity.

Karen the fact that minions of Ger Fitzgerald have actually sent medical details about you to Pat is UTTERLY scandalous. Its actually a serious breach of his brief as a priest and is possibly a GDPR issue – he’s a pastor and should not be sharing this stuff with anybody!
It is 100% an extra complaint to go to Rome for his case.

Like

And the details they sent to me were previously unknown to me beforehand.

However they DID NOT succeed in making me think less of Karen. In fact they increased my opinion of her humanity.

Like

2.05 & 2.09 It really should not come as a surprise to anyone that Fr Gerard Fitzgerald is revealing personal medical history about me to his friends. His track record in the RCC speaks for itself.
One time when we were out exploring at Doonas, I tripped over a branch and fell flat on my face. In hindsight it was quite funny but at the time it caused me immense pain. What did Ger do? Nothing. He stood there frozen to the spot. And he has the balls to call Fintan cowardly?! 🤣
Do not be fooled by Fr Ger’s egregious behaviour…he is a fake and a coward…he will do anything in his power to keep people from knowing the truth about him. I am not afraid of the truth. As Pat kindly said, the unpublished comment showed him my humanity. Yes, I am a sinner, and I am nothing without Jesus.

Even some clergy have another word for F in Ger’s case ask Bishop Pat what it is as Pat likes to use the word

3.02 your experience confirms that the safest option is to keep away from what’s running the church today & what they surround themselves with. Times have changed and one has to accept that to avoid their troublesome issues & for own personal safety and peace of mind and soul. Never be intimidated into blaming yourself in any way, always remember they instigated problem in first place & now agitating because they arrogantly don’t want consequences for what they’ve done. Very pompous & self entitled in all respects including the book Data issue.

3.37 I refer to Fr Ger as “Fr Ger” deliberately. In my opinion, he doesn’t deserve the title, but he is still an ordained priest and getting paid, so he needs to be held accountable.

Like

3.53 I am keeping away from the Catholic Church all right although I went in the other day to light a candle for my Dad who died two years ago. How nice that Fr Ger’s memorial liturgy for my Dad is still up on Facebook. It confirms that he played a Pastoral role in my life, earned my trust, gratitude and respect. Here we are two years later and he is sharing sensitive medical history about me with his friends, slandering me, using my photos and research in his book with no credit to me, and still not man or priest enough to apologise.

Like

6.26 I am puzzled you refer to Ger as Fr. My husband left the priesthood in the 90’s and is still ordained a priest but I don’t call him Fr. Priests are self employed they don’t receive ‘a salary’ and I doubt he is still on the payroll but I speculate. It may be different now, I suppose if he’s living in parish/diocesan house they could be supporting him.

Like

7.03 Fr Ger did not leave the RCC / Diocese of Killaloe. He is still listed on the priest directory c/o Bishop Monahan. He is a priest without a Parish and still getting paid although, from what I have been told by the Safeguarding officer, at a reduced rate. Fr Ger lives in his own house but there are rumours afloat that he might soon be heading to a monastery. I hope that clarifies matters for you.

Like

@3.02 its the absolute pits. Instead of apologizing (as he should) he is still trying to play victim and portray you badly in the hope Pat will lay off. Thankfully Pat can see through this nastiness.

So GF has:
Taken a pile of money from you – stayed in your home and was fed gratis – used your pics with no acknowledgement – spread slanderous lies about you – and to top it off has divulged your medical history to third parties. All while a priest. It is an absolute disgrace. Shocking.

Trespass is a Criminal Justice (Public Order Offence) under Section 13 of The Irish Legal Statute Book

It is an offence for a person to trespass on any building or the Curtilage of in such a manner as causes or is likely to cause fear or anxiety in another person.

A person found guilty shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding €1,000 or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 12 months or to both.

Ask Guards to issue a Section 13 Public Order if it happens again or alternatively they should provide a reason in writing why this has not been done or refer to Garda Ombudsman if necessary.

No one should have to live in fear – it is a breach of human rights and dignity.

Be rest assured Killaloe Diocese has no reason to act in any matter against you or any victim it would be shameful and it would breach all points of safeguarding even although your situation is not in safeguarding remit.
It would undermine the Diocese and the Bishop and his hard working teams.
Bishop Fintan has to work within Canon Law and that is why Ger is still on the pay roll but be assured most of the team Bishop, Clergy, relious and parishioners want Ger to the history books.

The ordinary Catholics don’t have abuse fatigue, they have Stockholm syndrome, because if the sheer extent of the cult s abuse and corruption meant anything to them they would have fucked off years ago. The laity are as complicit as anyone else. And if anyone reading this is shocked by that, it’s because nobody ever thinks they’re complicit.

Their complacency is the main obstacle to this evil being brought under control and they have to hear the facts to begin to see that they themselves are, in fact, part of the problem. An angry response would suggest their attachment to the cult and denial of their own complicity, is strongly defended and my little comment has kicked those defences.
Hurrah!

I had this conversation recently and was informed “we are not the type of family they would do anything to, they know our connections”. This meant that they were well connected at the upper end of the scale but why would anyone want to be part of that. I did probe and was informed “it’s just a social thing we do”, meaning them going to mass etc.

Like

No probs, 11:02. It may not be related to your comment but I think there’s a valid general point that abusers frequently make friends with their target’s parents as part of the grooming process, to make the parents think that they’re a nice guy and hopefully not believe any subsequent complaints of abuse.
How this works in reality is that parents who make an effort to be socially connected to the adults in contact with their children, actually increase the likelihood of them being abused, not decrease it.

Karen Karen of Karensville,
You just said that you think European law would prevent a public website listing news items already in the public domain and made a fool of yourself.
Do you have someone who could explain this to you?

11.36 I did read your comment. You said I was spewing over this blog. That’s why I assumed you were part of the Catholic mafia. Very hard to know who is who on this blog when only a few courageous people use their real names. Are you by any chance the solicitor who goes to the Cloister restaurant in Ennis? If yes, perhaps you might explain the data protection laws in Ireland.

Like

12.30 From the website that I linked earlier to my comment: “Lists are contentious, especially in Ireland. Many have told us that this list is a risky thing. The Christian Brothers notoriously took legal action to prevent the naming of names in the Ryan Report. The names of accused priests usually appear in the Irish press only if the priest is convicted in a criminal court. Elsewhere in Europe, even convicted child molesters enjoy anonymity. This is very different from the situation in the U.S., where the parties in a civil suit are often publicly known. As a result, we have nearly 4,500 accused priests in our database, though only 500 or so have been criminally charged, let alone convicted.”
When I said that I wasn’t sure if the E.U. data protection laws would allow such a database, it was after reading the above in regards to priests who have been accused of crimes but not convicted. I do not claim to be an expert on E.U. laws and regulations. I have only lived in Ireland full-time since 2020. What exactly is your gripe with me? I do not take kindly to anonymous blog comments that are in my eyes clearly designed to denigrate me.

Like

Karen at 2:17, Thank you for your apology. As it happens I am none of those and you have been asked to explain why you hold the bizarre opinion that European data laws would forbid a website in Ireland publishing information already in the public domain with careful links to the sources, which is what bishop accountability is.
Because it makes no sense whatsoever and I want to hear it.
Incidentally I’m not in a position to explain because I’m not in Europe.

Bill, how do you earn income? You’re not performing an independent ministry, so it’s not from priesting. You need 500,000 in a pension pot to give you approximately 25,000 a year of income. I can’t see how you amassed a pension pot that big whilst a priest. So you must be living off capital. Why is it so hard to admit it? Was it a legacy from a family member or a former parishioner? You’re all for transparency and honestly and are quick to call out others who are opaque in their dealings. So once again, Bill – where does your cash come from?

If above board I can see no problem- and once there is no coercion or undue pressure.

Most professionals have rules in place stating that they should not accept legacies. Can’t you see how a priest is in a position of spiritual authority, which could lead to undue influence? Should the gift not go to the parish rather than a priest?

Like

Exactly, 6:44. From the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s Code
21.1 refuse all but the most trivial gifts, favours or hospitality as accepting them could be interpreted as an attempt to gain preferential treatment

The Vatican has announced that no canonical investigation will be opened into the sexual assault accusation against Cardinal Ouellet.
The Holy See says that there are not sufficient grounds for an investigation based on a written report and a Zoom interview with the alleged victim.
The decision comes at the recommendation of Jacques Servais SJ, who was chosen to conduct the investigation of Cardinal Ouellet.
It just so happens that Servais and Ouellet were part of The Lubac-Balthasar-Speyr Association (along with Fr. Fessio and Cardinal Schönborn).
Servais has no canonical or any investigative training; he’s a theologian and runs a house of studies in Rome.
So, in brilliant Vatican style, a sweetheart “investigator” with a clear conflict of interest conducts one Zoom interview in 18 months, and — voila! — decides that nothing further is warranted.

Dr Shine successfully appealed a separate case for the sexual abuse of 10 other child patients due to go to trial last year. In 2012 over 110 cases were taken against the former medic & his Employers, The Medical Missionaries of Mary who agreed about €8 MILLION deal with survivors. Some 109 further cases have also been at the centre of new settlement talks for some time. The religious order & the HSE are in dispute over the legal fees currently exceeding €1 Million. 6.10: Pat, why are we subjected to Bill’s ridiculous petulance, mood swings, irrelevant personal history and his narcissistic diaries? You are tolerating his bullying behaviour and also, remember what happened to MC, who, having been goaded, tormented, ridiculed, mocked and scorned, went totally OTT. Facilitating the self destructive behaviour of any individual is morally reprehensible. It’s an abuse. Let him comment on the issues of the day but do not let him have unquestioning access to say what he likes. I am shocked that Bill, with his intelligence, believes that he has to share so much of his personal life’s history. I am equally shocked that, yet again, the very serious issues which need debating are overshadowed by Bill’s needs and obsessions. That is very unfair, Tony. The commentor at 7.10, like me, is not trying to muzzle William, but to have him stick to the blog topic; frankly, William is all over the place. Like the Pied Piper, he is taking too many commentors with him. What’s the point of inviting discussion of a topic while similtaneously allowing people to write about whatever they like.
I understand Pat’s not wanting to appear to be another ‘domineering’ bishop; God knows there are more than enough of them. But, surely, there is a balance to be struck? Going from one extreme (dominance) to its near opposite (being too lax) misses that balance by a wide mark.
