ISRAEL AND PALESTINE???

The first thing we need to realise and say is that the Israeli and Palestinian situation is really complex and only a fool would propose resolving it with simple or simplistic solutions.

I have been to Israel twice, liked it and fell in love with Jerusalem.

I could live in Jerusalem no problem.

The conflict is very sad because a people, the Jews, who have suffered so much themselves, are now inflicting great suffering on another nation – the Palestinians.

And of course, Palestine is compounding the problem by shelling Israel causing Israel to retaliate with killings.

It is a very vicious and violent circle.

I cannot see how the situation can be solved militarily.

So the only real resolution can be by negotiation and peaceful negotiation.

That means reading that there cannot be a WINNER and a LOSER.

There have to be two WINNERS.

That will mean that each side will have to make sacrifices.

JERUSALEM

Jerusalem is a particularly difficult problem because both nations regard it as their capital.

Most Jews, I understand, do not want to rebuild the Temple on the Temple Mount until the Messiah comes – as the exact site if the old Temple is not certain.

“The most immediate and obvious obstacle to realization of these goals is the fact that two historic Islamic structures which are 13 centuries old, namely the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, are built on top of the Temple Mount. Any efforts to damage or reduce access to these sites, or to build Jewish structures within, between, beneath, beside, cantilevered on top of, or instead of them, could lead to severe international conflicts, given the association of the Muslim world with these holy places.” (Wikipedia)

So the Jews and Palestinians would have to agree to share the land – a two nation land.

And, they would have to agree to share Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.

I know that this is very contentious and feelings run very deep.

But should the sons and daughters of God, albeit they call him different names, not be able share a land and a city?

Is it the extremists on each side that are the problem?

I’m looking forward to readers views.

BILL MULVIHILL EAMON MARTIN AND ISRAEL.

The Jews suffered enormously at the hands of evil. Given this they should be acutely more aware of the hardship being imposed on the Palestinians. This in no way justifies the shelling of Jewish people. The situation remains volatile whilst the two protagonists have hardened their stances

The Israeli/Palestine conflict is very regrettable. It is a very divisive and complex political, cultural and religious issue with extremists on both sides. We have Muslim, Christian and Jewish beliefs side by side, each claiming ownership for very historical territory. It’s not a situation that can be solved essily. The Al Asqua Mosque, The Dome of the Rock and Jerusslem are the three symbols being fought over and no political or religious entity wants to acquiesce on their perceived rightful symbols.. It is such a beautiful part of the world that divisiveness, conflict, war or enmities are so evil, destructive and a cause of so much death and hatred. The road to unity, agreement and peace is fragile.

Palestine never existed.
There has never been a nation of Palestine. There was no Palestinian organization until 1964 and no Palestinian cause until 1970. The PLO led by Arafat began the movement of radical Islamic terrorism that exists to this day. Arafat’s men murdered Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.
The Arabs living in Gaza are indigenous to Egypt. Those living in the West Bank are indigenous to Jordan. There is no indigenous Arab population to Israel. The Israelis are not colonizers. There is no “occupied” Palestinian land. When Palestinians refer to the illegal occupation, they are referring to the entire state of Israel.
Palestinians led by Hamas to this day say that their firing of rockets at Israel will end when Israel ends the occupation. What this means is that Palestinians will stop waging war as soon as Israel ceases to exist. Peace is defined as every Jew vacating the land and allowing Arabs to control 100% of it.

7.21 I ,from historical fact, completely agree with you. Palestinians need a homeland so let the world particularly the USA and the UK work to find it for them…but not on what is Israel. Have you ever read the book in Hebrew ” When a gift suddenly becomes a loan ” it is an interesting account of the dynamic between humans, the taking of revenge and the defamation of others ? God be with Israel and may he bless the non-violent Palestinians, all who would wipe out the Holy Christian lineage of Holy Places if they had jurisdiction. The oppressed always become the oppressors. Look at Ireland today….the homeless figures are through the roof and young people cannot afford housing, to say nothing of students seeking reasonable accomodation. We are a nation evicted by the British ( whom I also hold in high regard..NOW) so many times and now we are doing it to us own. Simon Coveney is never done having a go at Israel over Palestine….suit him better to see the oppressed on the streets of Cork city or Dublin…..appalling. Shalom, Bill Mulvihill

Apparently, conceding to a polite gesture that allows you to walk through a doorway ahead of another is a sign of weakness, an unconscious acknowledgement that the other person is stronger, superior. I accept that the problems in Israel / Jerusalem / Palestine seem intractable, and in the meantime many people are hurt and suffer. However, we must bear in mind that both sides are bolstered by religious belief and culture that is patently damaging and undermining of any stability or peace, in that both religious bases are patently simply ridiculous and unbelievable, but also toxic and damaging. However, these two religious underpinnings continue to be responsible for giving people the motivation and excuse to inflict suffering on each other and themselves. The older I get the more ridiculous I see religious belief which constructs simplistic and idiotic constructs of our relationship with a supposed God, each other, and the earth. Both Judaism and Islam, and for that matter Christianity, base their beliefs on an intervention from God some thousands of years ago in a particular part of the world in which he makes a wandering group of shepherd and goat herders his chosen people the focus of his whole supposed plan of salvation. And from that flows the “story” of the Jews, Christians and Muslims, for it really is myth / story invented as they went along. Add on various accretions of contrived and constructed religious nonsense and we arrive at what these various religions beliefs now. In the meantime, inspite of their professed love of God, humanity and each other, they have spent thousands of years slitting each other’s throats, often in the name of the religious belief that they hold. If you want an answer as to why the situation is as it is in the Middle East, as well as in many other places, look to the toxic influence of ridiculous religion. I’m surprised so many people are taken in by it all. It’s just so silly and unbelievable.

Religion has no doubt complicated the situation. But it is not the heart of the matter. This is about a people who were forcibly removed from their homes -some might call it ethnic cleansing – by a bunch of wealthy foreigners and an army. This is a territory and resource war with some religious sites attached for good measure.

Whatever Palestinians choose must be enforced even if Israelis lose their homes. They stole them in the first place and are illegal under international law.
(2) Jerusalem designated a city state under UN control. All religions and none welcome. Nobody owns Jerusalem and all holy sites free for all to worship at under international control.
(3) Palestinian controlled areas under new government in Ramallah. All existing Hamas people to resign; entirely new government to be formed with international assistance until elections held. All Palestinian armed groups to decommission weapons; new army to be formed under control from parliament in Ramallah.
(4) Palestinian and Israeli travel through all areas, Palestinian and Israeli, to be unhindered – borders only for administrative purposes.
For starters at least.

For the purposes of Safety for all concerned, the Cathedral directive is that everybody coming to Mass in the Cathedral wear a face covering which you bring yourself. We accept that this is not required in all churches, but it remains our standard here and if you choose to come here, we respectfully ask you to abide by this standard. If you do not have a recognisable lanyard that says you are medically exempt, then please do not be offended if you are asked more than once to wear a face covering. Our stewards and volunteers are simply doing what has been asked of them to keep this standard of safety in the Cathedral. Please be respectful of their role. If you feel that what we are asking is unreasonable, then you are welcome to choose a church that is more in keeping with your own wishes. We ask that you do not seek to change what we have established here for good reason and which is reviewed regularly.
Time for another review, I think ! Or is it another example of Clerical Instant Wisdom ?!

Not in the least. But I am laughing at those lay people who are expressing dismay at the triumphant – sounding ‘National Synthesis’.

Why lay people agree to take part in the synodal process when they must have known that any radical calls for departure from Church teaching and tradition would be stoutly resisted by the bishops? Lay involvement simply gave legitimacy and respectability to a process that would always, from start to finish, be under the management (who am I kidding?) the control of the bishops.

It is as though the Vatican had instructed: Let them have a good old gripe; get it out of their system; and then we’ll decide what’s what.

Jam always tomorrow. Only crumbs for today.

Liked by 1 person

However…..my view is that many laity has long since given up on listening to the hierarchy and any ‘official line’. They have taken note of the experience of their own lives and families, and have integrated all kinds of different situations, issues, problems and relationships in to their lives and coped with it. They come up with their own solutions and ways of living. For the hierarchy this is terminally dangerous. As any wise general will do on a battlefield, where he moves around and surrounds resistance and cuts it off so that it withers and moves forward leaving it behind, so the laity are doing with the hierarchy. They move around it, leave it behind, ignore it and move on. The hierarchy is becoming and will become irrelevant. People will move on. They already have. So, what the hierarchy does with the synodal process is in part already irrelevant. Their power and influence is withering. The move is happening. Bye bye, bishops and priests !

Like

10:01 Absolutely. However the answer to your question is that the people who took part don’t have the clear insight into the reality that you do.
That said, the only way they’ll get it is by exercises where they will be confronted with the reality they are refusing to see, so maybe the synod will have that positive outcome. 😆

Precisely, 11:16. That’s why they have their knickers in a twist ranting about CINOs and lack of catechesis.

Pat,
first to part of your intro:
”And of course, Palestine is compounding the problem by shelling Israel causing Israel to retaliate with killings.”
You conveniently left out the fact that Palestinian attacks are almost always a response to Israeli fcuk-acting, like building new (illegal) settlements, torture of prisoners, murder of journalists and anal examinations of Palestinian grannies by the IDF. Never mind the basic obvious fact that Israel is occupying Palestine.
@Historically Challenged @7.21
The area has been Palestinian since before the New Testament. The Bible itself – the last book I’d rely on -mentions Philistines repeatedly. After Muslim occupation in the 8th century the existing non-Jewish population became Muslim. They are locals. Just not Jews. Not only that for five hundred years prior to 1921 the area is referred to as the Ottoman province of Palestine. Dont forget for 500 years Ireland was a province of England and Wales and later Britain. Does that mean our shower should clear off and let the Unionists have the whole island? And if we are going to go back to the Stone Age, shouldnt the US be given back to the Cheyenne and the Sioux?
If nobody was there in the 1930s and the Jews just walked in, how come about 3 million locals became refugees and at least 100,000 were murdered by the Stern Gang and the Israeli army in 1947? Did these people, who call themselves Palestinian, not exist and simply appear out of nowhere with suitcases in Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria?

There are two races on Earth who have always looked after their own, to the detriment of others : The Jews and The British, for that I greatly admire both. I hope that answers your question. William Mulvihill…and honoured that an English King will soon bear my name again!!!!

You really, really are trolling now.
The only other possibility is that you have literally no understanding of any of the subjects you pontificate on, and no insight into your lack.
Currently my only regret (I am a British citizen) is that my Irish relatives are too far removed for me to be eligible for an Irish passport, and age and illness have made me ineligible for immigration elsewhere.
I hope that when Scotland and Wales become independent they are ready for the steady flow of asylum seekers from England who are forced to go there because the sea is impassable.
Your utter ignorance of the subjects you opine on combined with your certainty that you are right, suggests a clear remnant of priestly privilege which you continue to hold.

You wouldn’t fly a rainbow flag 🏳️‍🌈 because you don’t want to be viewed as different but you would fly a Union Flag or Israeli flag??
Do you see what I’m getting at here?
All the indications are that you deliberately seek to be different and not because you have profoundly held beliefs that make you different but because you deliberately court contrarian views to provoke a reaction. In modern parlance – you are a troll, sir.
I love the rainbow flag and what it stands for and I am proud to wear it or be seen carrying it. I remember what it once stood for – it has been appropriated by the lunatic woke fringe and its currency is cheapened by its appearance everywhere and on everything and it’s appropriation by the lunatic trans fringe – one day we will claim back what is ours.
And a final address to Pat. You don’t want to be seen to be different- so stop wearing your clerical collar which sets you apart as different.

2.28 The privileges of ministry are unappreciated generally. It is at distance I can see them all: it is lovely way to be with people. Unfortunately the structures and abuse of power in ministry are putrid. I would not want any privilege back, the human cost: skin on skin etc are too high, entirely dysfunctional.

@Cyberpunk 3.10 excellent comment.
I would have thought Bill would be keeping the head down after the recent post where he made an absolute tit of himself and made Eamon Martin looked like a champion of decency and fair play. Neck like a jockey’s nuts.
It certainly appears that Bill’s whole mantra is to be contrarian with absolutely no thought put into his views. I daresay he hasnt a word of any of the languages of the countries he criticises. He recently called the Spanish a nationality with empire mentality. I know a load of Spanish and have never felt that from them. He is both a Trump and Putin fan and thinks the Ukraine war is Biden’s fault.
Pat could you make a post for Bill to waffle in so we can all avoid it?

If the Rainbow Flag stands for anything, it isn’t the petulant display of exclusion demonstrated here, so shamelessly, by you. It stands for inclusion, excepting no one, even, ironically, you, and people who think just like you.

Yes, Pat. Bill is unboundaried and has already ignored your advice not to publish his letters, but has nonetheless had you publish them on your blog. He says things which are ridiculous, nonsensical, shocking, socially unacceptable and if not calculated to offend, show no restraint or self awareness. I would be surprised at nothing because he is so unstable – eg recently he had you announce he would never comment again but was back in a matter of hours.
Clearly what will happen is that he will continue to violate boundaries to the point he actually does go off in a huff, or he tries even your famed tolerance to the point where you have to ban him.

How to spot a troll:
‘Many times, you’ll notice that they keep replying to the same thread or they argue with a lot of different people over a similar topic. Check if anyone else has replied with answers or solutions and if the account still responded negatively. If they continue being contrarian despite being given a clear answer, they’re a troll just looking to make people upset.’
‘Trolls never seem to take a break from commenting on posts. Look through the person’s profile history to see how frequently they’ve posted. Since most trolls are online for most of the day, they usually will write posts and share information multiple times throughout the entire day. If you see they shared a handful of posts within an hour, they could be a troll. If the posts are spaced out by a few hours or days, the account is more likely to be legitimate.’
‘If you notice all of their posts seem rushed and don’t use proper grammar, they may be trolling you.’
Conclusion: William is a troll.
