It would be quite interesting if the Blog set up an OLD BOY’S ASSOCIATION and had a gathering.
Who might be invited?
We would have to start with the Maynooth SUMMER OF LOVE in 2016 – 6 years ago.
DEACON MICHAEL JACK BYRNE – no longer involved in the RCC but doing excellent work as a HSE hospital chaplain and training to be a psychotherapist.
SEAN “KING PUCK” JONES –

after a time in the desert he signed an affadavit for Sugar Ray Browne and got ordained and is now a curate in Killarney. Keeps a low profile.
CHRIS DERWIN – no longer in the RCC and working in Wexford and reported to be much happier man now having cast off his RCC chains.
MARK MORIARITY –

another desert rat – was in Sugar Ray’s bad books but latterly made a deacon.
PAUL PRIOR – former Maynooth dean, master of male underwear, unsuccessful Jesuit novice and now a Kilmore PP.
“HORNEY ANDY” – former seminarian. Studied at the feet of Tom “Gamaliel” Deenihan in Cork and now reported to be living in the low countries.
RORY COYLE – former Master of Ceremonies to Our Amy – graduate of the Grindr College of Biology and now residing with a religious order in. London and expected to made a return to Amy’s bosum.
EUGENE MC CAMLEY – another Grindr graduate, patron saint of 90 year old males, spent time in the desert, has returned to Our Amy’s bosom and selling his wares in the Dungannon region.
MARTIN MC VEIGH – expert on the use of the male physique in Holy Communion preparation and IT, also returned to Our Amy’s bosom and plying his trade in the Dundalk area.
AIDAN MC ALINDEN –

broadened his horizons into covert photography and the female form, knowledgeable in the shopping centre world and currently in Our Amy’s Limbo.
RYAN MC ALEER – beloved of Our Amy, also reported to be in the low countries, has some desert experience, has knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the apostolate of twinkology.
MICHAEL KING, GALWAY –

social media and Tik Tok difficulties, again knowledgeable in the area of pharmaceuticals and currently on further studies.
DICK PURCELL –

former double abbot, musical and biological tendencies and relict of The Fonz. Whereabouts unknown apart from occasional sightings.
GER FITZGERALD –

Lothario of the West, sausage supper connoisseur – holder of the 23 second start to finish record, wannabe bus driver and one time master of Y & K.
SEAMUS FREEMAN –

former chaplain to the Pleasuredome London and renowned for always being on top of his subjects.
“MR KEENAN” –

the also ran for Glasgow and famous sender of estate agent’s letters. Dearly beloved of the Scottish Daisy Chain and protector of undertakers.

With bishops like Phonsie supporting the wayward abbot and Tom Deenihan’s continued persecution of the true Prior of Silverstream, is it any wonder that some clergymen are behaving badly?
Episcopal leaders must catch themselves on and lead by example. Phonsie and Tom must examine their consciences. Oh, what have they done? Oh, what have they failed to do?
All our good rural brethren are shocked and appalled by the attack on a GAA referee in Roscommon. Referees are human and have families. The perpetrator must be brought to justice and feel the full force of the law.

What a crew ! At least we now know what clerics are really like and what atoxic and dysfunctional, even criminal, culture they inhabit. In part that is thanks to + Pat and blogs like this. What needs to happen now is that the clerical culture and self-interested and self-protecting hierarchical structure of the Church should be changed, away from a single sex, celibate and inward looking culture to one that reflects the diversity and breadth of the Church and its people. That really means getting rid of the all male, all (supposedly !) celibate priesthood and replacing it with a priesthood that includes married men, women, diverse people and those who have the gifts to be ministers and priests. All the waffle about doctrinal changes being impossible is a load of bollocks, and we all know that it is simply a delaying tactic that will work for a limited time, but will not stop the inevitable progress towards a new and refreshed priesthood. Then we can get on with sorting out the rest of the mess that is the Church at the moment ! I would suggest that current clerics get with the plan, otherwise they are going to be left behind. And they won’t like that, will they ?!

Well, abolishing priesthood could be a way forward. I’ve long since moved away from the rather nasty and vindictive narrative of salvation and the blood sacrifice so called theology on which it is based, and all that silliness from the OT about sacrificing and holocausts, and such. I mean, what nonsense ! Whatever makes people think that God needs to be appeased, or some kind of blood sacrifice and ransom needs to be made, because of some mythically presumed great sin of man ? We know it is all based on myth and story, much of it contrived and self-serving for a priestly class. So, yeah, why not abolish priesthood ?!

Comment to 11.41 on “Abolishing Priesthood.”
Part of me might wish to go further.
The harsh reality of inevitable death, and awareness of recurrent cycles of decay and regeneration in the ‘plant world’ may have been the ancient genesis of humankind’s wish to replicate such cyclical regeneration for ourselves. Some would place such human aspirational thinking of regeneration as the origin for much of the religious mythology associated with powerful unseen forces, …..gods or a “God”, and all the alleged intercessory powers of priests, shamans, witchdoctors and their like with such gods to avoid misfortune in this life, and good fortune in the hereafter.
For a variety of reasons, largely based on the lack of reliable corroborative evidence, I reject the whole farrago of religion.
But ‘abolish priesthood’?……probably impossible while most humans retain an emotional/psychological childhood inculcated need to “believe in something “, ………..and there remains a “priestly” cadre of opportunists available to capitalise on it.
While yes, some of them genuinely believe and behave commendably, but as this blog regularly highlights, one has to wonder at the proportion of the genuine as opposed to the conmen.
One abolition I’d like to see would be the abolition of all religious teaching within formal education supported/financed in any way by the public purse.

1:39 Unless providing an immediate non religious service to people I don’t think religions should be treated as charities and thus should pay tax.
For example in the Archdiocese of Birmingham this would mean that Fr Hudson’s would be a charity and not pay tax but the Archdiocese itself would not be and would pay tax.
The reason I think this is that it would force these religious charities to do some good with any funds they stash away.
The most bizarre arrangement I know of is in the US where as soon as you declare yourself a non profit you don’t have to publish accounts.

I wouldn’t like to be in the shoes of the Pope this morning as the Gospel shouts out to him the message of the Lord. Can Francis read this without cringing in his very being? He should do, for not only our Pope but the entire human hierarchical structure that should be the Body of Christ on Earth has got to ask what has gone wrong. Priests too have to face up to these words of foundation. Are they showing by their lives that they are one with the words of Peter. We the people are not without fault too for it is we who have not demanded that the teaching of the Church be followed both in Liturgy and homily and in the daily lives of our pastors.
Jesus is the model that we have to follow and it is St Paul whose fearless proclaiming of the Good News was in direct response to the words of Christ, the promptings of the Holy Spirit and the Glory of the Father, did so much to build up the communities of faithful believers that have now grown into the Institution that does not live up to the Grace poured out in the blood of Jesus on the Cross.
St Paul’s total commitment to the immensity that shook his whole being, closed his eyes and opened up his soul shines out with a clarity that belies the “glass darkly”. His living without the guile of deception, looking for praise or money but only and always in the sight of God is what we are all called to do and we need our aproach to Sacramental Grace be unimpeded by the scandals of the Ordained.
“Who am I to Judge”? I too ask this many times a day and know that it is God who entrusted the Good News to Paul and the Apostles and promised that he would be with us to the end of time. The standards for human life have been revealed to us. Francis, how can anyone know that he is living righteously if he does not judge himself first?
Dear Lord, your love fills the whole world and I pray to be able to share in it. I pray that the words of both Paul and the Gospel shake up your ordained ministers especially those who are confused between Magisterium and Body of Christ and that the Church becomes the sheepfold where the sheep can be safe and unharned in the care of the Good Shepherd. May Mary too implore the Holy Spirit to enter into the hearts of us all so that we may remain true to the way the truth and the life. Lord Jesus save us!
