ARMAGH PRIEST RETURNS TO MINISTRY AFTER ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST HIM WERE FOUND TO BE “UNSUBSTANTIATED”

FR GERARD MC ALEER

https://m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/priest-reinstated-after-unsubstantiated-historical-claim-against-him-41980666.html

Pat says:

This case is a reminder to us that some people and some priests who are accused of abuse can be innocent.

There were two in investigations into Fr Mc Aleer – a police one and a church one. The matter was relating to a minor before he was ordained.

The Church hearing does not involve the same level of evidence that a criminal trial does.

The accusations were not substantiated.

We don’t know if the complainant did not offer evidence or refused to attend hearings.

But we must remember that in our countries we regard people innocent until found guilty.

That does not mean that they have to found innocent!

The Armagh statement says that this has been difficult for all involved.

We must recognise that.

We must also recognise that it has been hard for Fr Mc Aleer.

We must also wish him well as he gathers the pieces together again.

Eamon Martin will be togged out ( never in his life) in his gold rags today for a ceremony appropriate to the North of Ireland and the President will attend. Unlike the last fiasco ( historically ) the religious leaders were together for, although EM s words excelled. Today he will be at his best; silent.

A very dubious individual is that priest, always fawned on by Primates. Hated in Armagh College. Friend of Mickey Harte, enough said. I heard him say in the Senate Hall Armagh when gathered for Brady under pressure meeting ” I come from a long Levitical line.” Pompous Get. Donaghmore was wanted by Richard Naughton whose brother gave them plenty of money, But Mc Aleer got it !!! There is always a reason!

8:26am Mickey Harte, the Church & the GAA, Money, Money, Money. When will they start paying the players now that their demands from them are no longer conducive to holding down a full time job as well unless the player is employed in some “handy number” in the local school or council like the new lay church management is sourced from. Cute Hoors are the Church, you might not be putting money in their basket but they have found an alternative way to make the public pay to keep their independently wealthy church continue to be funded in covert ways even by those abused by them under their very noses.

9.31: What a disgusting slur against Mickey Harte! You horrible person! Mickey Harte enjoys the respect, admiration and esteem of thousands. What an amazing ambassador for our country, for his Catholic faith and his GAA. An amazingly, inspirational man. You, on the other hand, Bill, are muck! There’s not an ounce of decency in you. As is said, there’s something of the dark night about you. It’s a stenchy darkness. As for money: at least Mickey Harte earns his legitimately and does not live a debauched existence nor is he on the take from others.

The principle applied to all other people inbsicidty “innocent till proven guilty” seems not to apply to clerics. To be falsely accused is a reprehensible act of hatred, very often compelled by money..Any person found guilty of false accusations should face imprisonment. Am I not mistaken but hasn’t Fr. I wonder if there is any hope for Dean Kennedy to be reinstated ???!!!!! It’s never been clear what went on in his case, and what he was exactly supposed to have done (other than a domestic tiff with a presumed b/f, the organist). Although, maybe he’s distanced enough from that life now and will not be that worried about returning to any church role. I know a number of priests who, having been distanced for a while from active ministry for whatever reason, then at that distance realise that they really don’t want to go back. Distance can give a sense of new perspective, which allows people to see things more clearly and to see through a lot of the nonsense they took unquestionably before.

Like

8.59 In connection to the point you make about not going back. I am well informed that there is at present a phenomena of priests of their own volition going for ” councelling ” ( most of it attrocious…think Humphries) and at their own expense. It is my understanding that what arises is volcanic. For instance recently, a priest whose name and diocese is known to me, told his councillor of some things he had done which he in his own mind thought quite innocent, in fact she reported him and he was taken out of ministry. There are many who should not be ministering and will never know! Too many go back…even Mc Aleer.

Sometimes an accuser just can’t prove a crime against himself; it does not mean that no crime took place.
After George Pell’s conviction was overturned in the Victoria High Court, Pope Francis made a disgraceful remark about Pell’s accuser. He forgot (or didn’t give a damn) that not every victim of a crime can prove that he is a victim.
Miscarriages of justice can go in either of two ways: the innocent convicted, or the guilty declared innocent.

9.38: In a case of an allegation made against a cleric, the priest never worked in the parish mentioned nor had he ever worked in the school referred to. The person making this devious claim subsequently revealed he saw his name somewhere in a neighbouring church and created his almost plausible accusation on this alone. A woman who lived in a Magdalen Laundry told me she was prevented from going to support meetings because she didn’t agree with written statements which they were supposed to express when asked by others about their experiences. This woman was told she was a liar by a prominent advocate on behalf of survivors….This attitude was and is not morally acceptable.. Having also listened to a husband/father/ relate the false allegation against him by a neighbour, false allegations are horrendous. Thus man was fully exonerated, the accused brought to prison.

Again and again the servants of the church demonstrate on here that they latch onto various ideas which they think can be used to defend the church or attack those they feel threatened by. They never ever understand these ideas. In recent months we have had:
Wanting to report a Garda officer to his superiors for having an affair with a priest.
Making out that seminarians are vulnerable adults.
Thinking that GDPR would prevent you making a safeguarding.
Threatening Pat with a European GDPR lawyer.

I would really think that these were troll comments but I have a horrifying suspicion that these people actually are that stupid. This is the key demographic for the cult at this stage, obviously.

Allegations vary in levels of credibility. When a survivor explicitly states he or she is not seeking financial compensation, such an allegation ought to be taken very seriously by church authorities.
In my experience such allegations are not seriously addressed by the church. They seem to want survivors to f*** off.

I think you’ll all find that what is so vexing you is the statutory statement that any body gathering information has to give, and the fact it has given you that warning means your complaints won’t go anywhere, because it means it’s using information legally.
If you give information to anyone they have to tell you the purpose they’re collecting it for, and every organization uses information for various purposes. For example the church could even be using the addresses of churchgoers to plan what churches to close.
For a complaint to be upheld they would have to be using information incorrectly and I’m not hearing any evidence that they have done so.

Is this the third or the fourth day that the people who have literally no understanding of GDPR have been on here demonstrating their level of understanding?

The Diocese collects the data we hold about you in a number of ways:
When you access our website;
By you using the “contact us” facility on our website;
By you contacting the Diocesan office by phone, email or letter and providing data to us;

Sometimes from a parish or other third party;
When you attend Diocesan training;
When you use the vetting service.’

1:10 What do you mean, ‘the church’? Do you mean the clergy? Of course the church can use information in lots of ways including planning church closures.
But also in, for example, avoiding compensating victims of clerical abuse in a particular diocese due to high numbers of complaints with cost implications for particular diocese. Are you a diocesean data protection officer? Why would a complainant put evidence of a complaint on this

‘Have you actually read the Killaloe Diocese Privacy Policy?’
I was wondering how to phrase this since people won’t like it but I think there are people here who may be helped in the long run by hearing this.
If an organization has a published privacy policy which meets the law, but which you don’t like, and you have given information to them, no court in the entire world will blame the diocese for this.
If you give an organization your information the onus is on you to read their policy first.
I’m sure there will be howls that this is mean, but this is how it works. That’s why organizations publish their policies so that they can correctly say you could have read it.
And incidentally organizations run these policies past lawyers first.

Put it the other way: what kind of business wouldn’t keep detailed records of complaints and legal cases, if only to try to avoid them in the future?

Actually 4:53 you have a point.
To what extent a religion, any religion, adapts to the situation outside is always fascinating.
You could say it would be best to give away everything and have no assets, which means there’s no point suing.
But if you have assets at some point you will get sued and how churches prepare for that is telling.
It’s like the question of insuring churches against acts of God. 😂

5:22 Why do you think Archbishop McNamara in the 1980s sought legal advice as to the Church’s liability arising from child sexual abuse. As a result of the advice, McNamara insured the archdiocese to protect it financially, while not revealing the degree of clerical sex abuse recorded
in diocesan files to the Garda Síochána as required in law. According to Michael McDowell the then attorney general, the State “effectively signed a blank cheque” in agreeing the controversial 2002 indemnity deal with 18 religious congregations. Money took precedence-business dealings.

Once again the readers of this blog demonstrate they don’t understand how abuse works.
Facts:
The majority of abuse is never complained about or litigated in any way.
Of the remaining small proportion which is litigated, usually decades after it happened, the majority of cases will never reach the level of evidence required for a conviction.

In reality this means the cases we know of are a tiny proportion of the reality, and most cases will never get near a court.

And yes, dioceses will keep statistics about complaints and litigation.

By the way, my belated thanks to FYI for the link he provided the other day to Complicit Clergy. It contained radio interviews with Thomas Doyle, another ex-cleric, and a former seminarian in a show called Angry Catholic.

Folks, this link is worth checking out and the site is worth subscribing to; I did both.

1.11: I can’t understand why you could cynically come to that conclusion. We, as priests, understand well the dynamics of GDPR, perhaps more than most. This is too serious an issue for any person to not adhere to its relevance and significance. We are learning all the time about the intricacies of GDPR. It’s not something to mess with. Even now, we have to have written permission from families who request the funeral of a loved one to be recorded and we cannot keep it for public viewing. Only a family member can be given a code..Likewise for sacramental celebrations: parental permission is a prerequisite. Yet, parents use their mobile phones to take photos and send them to relatives, even with photos of other people in shots. Some people disregard all GDPR guidelines. I think the “trolls” you reference come from your constituency of idiots.

Falsely accused priests or anybody are collateral damage – Cliff Richard, DJ Fox and Paul Gambochini were a accused, arrested, investigated and say fir example in Fox’s case the magistrate said he believed the victims but threshold of evidence v high (beyond reasonable doubt) so dismissed – same with CMOC – he too was arrested by Surrey Police but they didn’t proceed.
There is a presumption of innocence until proven which is right but hey abusers and predators know this – it’s a game of roulette, some win, some lose.
St Gerard Majella was accused of sexual assault but took it like a man! and didn’t squeal like a little piggie!!

Like

To suggest survivors of church abuse in the 21st century be like St. Gerard Majella, and not ’squeal like a little piggie’, is total complete and utter nonsense. In 2010, Fr. Hans Kung in a letter to bishops around the world stated…”our church…now finds itself in the worst credibility crisis since the Reformation.” Other commentators claim it is the worst crisis in church history. Christians, including catholic’s, have a duty to challenge corruption, even corruption in the institutional church.

Do you know any priest out there that does minor deliverance ministry?
Cos I have dabbled in new age therapies before which I need to close it down alltogether.
Hence my request for a priest who does his deliverance ministry.

Gerard McAleer was in a couple of Armagh boys schools in the 90s, one of which I attended – he’s about as innocent as Caligula and at least as debauched. Loved showering with the first years and loved patting them on their naked bottoms. And these are the least of the tales I could tell about the thug.

Like

Total nonsense and ridiculous for Buckley to post.
Gerald McAleer could be described as a very private not so friendly person but never a man with any hurt to others.

Great to see him back in ministry, a vocation he does with diligence.

Like

Anonymous I am sure you genuinely believe that about Gerard McAleer (unless you are Gerard McAleer himself) but that’s only because you don’t know him the way I and hundreds upon hundreds of Armagh city schoolboys have known him. I am utterly honest here in saying that I have never known a single one who would say a good word about him.

Fr Gerard McAleer, I can say as someone from the village of Donaghmore, receives a bad press. He is an excellent pastor and knew the value of distance between cleric and parishioner. I would be less complimentary about Fr David Moore who acted as administrator in Fr McAleer’s absence. His medling in affairs in local schools has caused upheaval. His fast and loose approach to bragging about how much money Donaghmore parish had inherited and his blatant desire to be seen with camp rich individuals would, I’m afraid, suggest he is a diabolical social climber. I would also ask Pat to clearly highlight that Fr Gerard McAleer is absolutely in no way related to Fr Ryan McAleer. The two are chalk and cheese. Fr Ryan McAleer turned his vocation into a complete cesspite of debauchery and effectively desecrated the Eucharist with his behaviour, and everyone knows it. His arrogance has left him in an unenviable place, no matter how he or his supporters may dress it up. I would particularly share my concern over one grammar school teacher in my area who is determined that the school establises links with Maynooth, St Mary’s and wait for it, the Catholic University of Leuven. Ryan McAleer has a connection to all of these institutions, and an even stronger connection to this teaching professional. I’m also aware of a teacher, close to Ryan McAleer, who holidayed with him in Asia, with his boyfriend (who happens to been the other teacher referred to). On learning of Ryan McAleer’s despicable behaviour, this teacher told the victim that he didn’t believe him and would share this with everyone – causing the victim to make an attempt on their own life. I am a close confidante of one victim Pat. Someone who is shocked bu what I’ve been told over a period of more than a year now. I would suggest leadership in Magherafelt and Donaghmore examine their staffing and vet them more.
