German Synodal Way Approves Text Calling Homosexual Acts ‘Not Sinful’ and ‘Not Intrinsically Evil’

From complicitclergy.com

At the fourth Assembly of the German Synodal Way, a large majority of the bishops and laity present voted to approve a text that demands the Church change her teaching on homosexuality.

Entitled “Magisterial reassessment of Homosexuality,” the document includes the following statement: “Same-sex sexuality – also realized in sexual acts – is thus not a sin that separates from God, and it is not to be judged as intrinsically evil.”

The fourth Assembly of the German Synodal Way was held from September 8-10, 2022, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The Synodal Assembly consists of the 56 German bishops, 69 representatives of the lay organization “Central Committee of German Catholics,” and several other members of clergy and laity. For a text to be approved, a majority of the members of the Assembly, as well as a two-thirds majority of the bishops, is needed.

Forty of the 56 German bishops (71%) voted in favor of the text that proposes a change to Church teaching on homosexuality. The document is meant to be submitted to Pope Francis and into the worldwide synodal process.

PAT SAYS

I agree with the German Synod’s statement on homosexuality and homosexual acts.

But of course this is a direct challenge to the traditnal RCC teachings that homosexual acts are intrinsically evil and are grave sins.

It is a big step for an important national church like the German church to throw down this challenge to Rome, the Vatican and traditional theologians.

But eventually Rome had to eventually agree that the earth was round and not flat.

And it must now prepare to abandon its flat earth approach to human sexuality.

It must learn from the fields of science, medicine and psychology.

These disciplines are also gifts from God and contain well founded sources of wisdom and knowledge.

The Holy Spirit is at work through all knowledge.

The clash of views on human sexuality may very well prompt a schism in the RCC?

As someone said:

“Sex will be the Catholic Church’s 21st century Galileo”.

And strange that the country that produced the most recent conservative pope is now challenging conservative Catholic theology.

Great news: legislation in the US to remove the statute of limitations for CSA is progressing and now just needs Biden’s signature:

This means all the cases you read about that have timed out can now go through court. I guess it could even be another $4 billion in punitive damages.

Seems sensible and fair to me. I guess it is already the case in the UK and Ireland. I remember a guy who was 100 being imprisoned for 7 years for his abuse of two young girls back in the ’50s. They had more or less forgotten about it until they saw him being lauded in the local newspapers on his 100th birthday. They took their story to the police, he was prosecuted and at even over 100 he was found guilty and imprisoned for 7 years. I guess he has died / will die in prison. Rightly so. There should no limitation on whether a worthy case should be tried and a guilty individual brought to justice. I guess there will be some clergy around who are hoping that they die quietly before their crimes come to the light and they end up in prison. There are still a lot of them out there. By the way, anybody know when that creep Bede Walsh will be getting out of prison ? I think he probably needs to be careful, because I’m sure there are lots of other things he did that did not come out at the time. He could find himself being prosecuted for new offences and back in prison if people do come forward.

The last time I heard of that arrogant execrable pile he was at HM Pleasure in Durham. He still refuses to accept his guilt and culpability, and refuses to cooperate with any of the rehabilitation programmes, so I would expect that he will not get out on license after half his sentence is served as is normal for well behaved and cooperative prisoners, and he will probably end up doing the majority of it. Didn’t he get something like 20 + years ? I don’t doubt that his diocese and his old clergy pals will rally round when he is finally let out. Once a priest, always a priest, even if he has been laicised. The old Cotton / Oscott / Birmingham clerical fraternity will make sure of that.

Yes, it’s like the redress scheme for the mothers and babies homes and the like, they hope to wear victims out so they die waiting. Anything to save the Church saving a few quid for fancy trips, hobbies & holiday homes for Bishops and all that jazz. Greedy out. They won’t be worrying about the electric bill this winter.

The Irish would still be living in the dark without German technology, perhaps German theology will take the Irish Church out of the dark corridors of lies & hell it currently occupies.

This would matter if:
1) the Church’s teaching on homosexuality were reformable, which it is not
2) we concerned ourselves with liberal Protestant interpretations of Scripture, which we do not
3) the natural law did not forbid it, which it does.

10.27 who is funding all this Synodal grasping at straws stuff hoping that unresolved case victims will die in the meantime without justice and they dream they will all carry on regardless with 2 fingers up to society. Unbelievable arrogance. They claim to have class but are clearly utterly lawless in their day to day operations.

Spiritual leaders have an incredible power to influence others under their care for good. But there are some who exploit their positions of power to control others for their own purposes. This is one of the most heinous forms of betrayal because it is done in the name of God.

10.29 Ennis parishioners very disappointed in Mark Nestors parting shot when he voted AGAINST reducing the local property tax rate in Clare. Not very charitable, he’s the makings of a good company man allright. Is it true that Council will be paying him or is he on the public sector career break scheme whilst he studies for the priesthood. They get some of their wages for a number of years.
Only three Clare Councillors were decent enough to vote FOR reducing the Property tax bill in Clare. These councillors were:

No wait. If the church calls homosexuality intrinsically evil, that means it’s ok to call the church intrinsically evil, right?

Apparently there is some controversy over the procedure used by the Assembly connected to voting procedure i.e. secret ballot or open vote.
I find Joseph Ratzingers influence in Church affairs from Vatican II up
to the present remarkable. He was German Cardinal Frings’s 35-year-old protégé, peritus, and considered all around theological Wunderkind, who influenced the course of Vatican II by deposing Cardinal Ottavianis pre-Council initiatives to continue as usual. Ratzinger was considered one of ‘the most gifted German pro-reform theologians’ according to Peter Seewald. As head of the CDF, Ratzinger must have known the extent of clerical CSA in the Church worldwide. The sexual abuse of minors by priests was his responsibility to investigate from 2001 when that charge was given to the CDF by Pope John Paul II. Before given this charge, Cardinal Ratzinger was theoretically privy to all sexual abuse cases within the Church.

It is the duty of the living to do that for them.

Clergy deliberately engage members & volunteers in acts to support wrong doing that benefits church interests.

Sorry, but the Church is already a bit late to the party. Only the bad, sad and odd think about sin when it comes to homosexuality. In fact, they don’t really think of sin at all about anything. So, the Church is really flogging a dead horse. Life, history and most of the world has moved on…..thankfully.

The Church will not change its teaching on homosexual acts, because it cannot do so.
Scripture, especially the New Testament, is unequivocal about the moral nature of these acts.

Bill, your spelling is almost as bad as Pat’s…..but not quite.
Anyway, you are totally correct about the silly title of Canon being used in the Church today. Absolutely out of touch with the real world. Noel Treanor had let the Cathedral Chapter all but die out…….until this year. He recently appointed about ten new canons and several honorary ones!!! Clogher diocese can’t function without canons…..there’s as many retired ones there as serving ones…….totally daft in today’s world.

I don’t believe the German synodal text means what you think, Pat. It isn’t a statement on the moral neutrality of gay sex; it’s more a ‘it isn’t as bad as we’ve traditionally taught’ revision.

‘is thus not a sin THAT SEPARATES FROM GOD’ is not the same as ‘is thus not a sin’.

Yes, that’s exactly what it is.

The dissenting German bishops want a moral regrading of gay sex from mortally sinful to venially sinful.

A “fruits of Vatican II” post in the latest issue of The Tablet:
“Dublin priest Fr Aquinas Duffy told The Tablet that he spent seven years in Clonliffe College. “I was just 17 years old when I entered and I was 24 when I was ordained. I was one of the few in recent decades to be ordained in the church at Clonliffe College. I also had two separate appointments working in the diocesan offices for a few years. So Clonliffe holds a special place in my heart.”
When he was ordained in 1984, the Dublin seminary had about 94 students in addition to a few students at the Irish College in Rome. “Now we do not have even one student for the entire seven-year period,” he lamented.”

BBC News.2 days ago.
“A victim of child sexual abuse at a priest training school has said missionaries “begged for forgiveness” at a meeting.
Mark Murray was one of several abuse survivors who met the Comboni Missonaries in London on Tuesday.
The 66-year-old from St Asaph, Denbighshire endured repeated abuse by a priest while at St Peter Claver College in West Yorkshire.
The Comboni Survivors Group said it was “deeply moved” by the meeting.
The group was invited to meet Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, and other seniors clerics, including members of the Comboni Missionaries at the Archbishop’s House in Westminster.”

The German Church is financially rich but its believers are aging and shrinking in number. Aside from the Chicoms, to whom Francis betrayed Chinese Catholics (Cardinal Zen, who suffered from negative Chicom attentions, introduced the Mandarin language New Mass to mainland China from Taiwan with the Mass as of 1949 mostly now for older folk), the Germans keep paedo-heretics of the Vatican afloat (all those pals of Francis from Inzoli onwards, who molested more after Francis restored faculties to a convicted paedo). Being ‘up to date’ will be regarded as risible and even negatively by younger people who want solid values for themselves and their children, only really appealing to a shrinking cohort affluent liberal left but religious boomers, basically Merkel voters.
