Belgian Flemish-speaking bishops have approved a blessing ceremony for homosexual couples, using several statements by Pope Francis to challenge the Vatican doctrinal office’s ban that said God “cannot bless sin”.
The three-page Belgian document said “such a prayerful moment can be quite simple. The difference with what the Church understands as a sacramental marriage must also remain clear.”
After suggesting prayer texts for the couple and the whole congregation, the document says the ceremony should end with an “intercession, Our Father, closing prayer (and) blessing”.
SAME SEX BLESSINGS IN CHURCH HISTORY
LOS ANGELES TIMES
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-06-08-ls-1848-story.html
“Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe” (Villard Books) asserts that from the 8th to the 18th Centuries, the Catholic church sanctioned same-sex unions and offered ceremonies complete with prayers for the couple’s union, Holy Communion and rubrics directing the couple to kiss a book of the Gospel, the priest and one another
PAT SAYS
This is a very big development in the RCC.
Now, Belgian and German bishops are determined to go against the Vatican on this major issue.
I can’t see either sets of bishops backing down.
It will be hard for the Vatican to back down.
That means a collision is on the table.
Will ot lead to a new Reformation?
But. The RCC has a history of blessing sane sex unions.

Good. As a priest had to do so many ‘friendship ‘ blessings.. if clergy can have gay sex at will ..with no commitment.. nights in Boiler House. Roscrea monastery kitchen, holidays in London and Thailand for bishops etc.. I have blessed houses, cars, sports facilities.. animals, football pitches.. medals etc.. Nice to have a text finally for gay humans.. but the Latin / lace brigade mightnt be happy with the translation from the original Latin.. is it novus ordo or tradentine enough?

All these things you’ve listed should not be happening in the first place. No matter what happens with these mad and bad ‘Belgian bishops’ it will never be enough for the Novus/ ordo brigade because with that mad bunch its give them a inch and they want a mile, a pox on the lot of them.🙄

Belgium’s bishops rival Ireland’s duds in the destruction of Catholic practise, and frankly out do them, with active Catholics close to a rounding error, far outnumbered by Moslems and others. It was significant that the Pope on election was flanked by the lewd Danneels (the story on the loss of his episcopal ring and its recovery is suggestive) responsible for among other things a rather paedophilic sex education. Francis the friend of Grassi and restorer of the priesthood of Inzoli, who abused more children when his faculties were temporarily restored by Francis, is probably content with this, and the general collapse in vocations after his new appointment to Mechelen-Brussels but will allow issue a pro-forma criticism from a dicastery to see how the kite flies. I honestly think a gay man might stay far away from this disreputable crew. If he wants an aesthetic Cath tradition blessing, he probably could resort to some Union of Ultrecht, Old Cath priest. This is a plastic in oceans sort of thing, that is, empty virtue signalling, as empty as Belgian Catholic churches.

Pat, below is a further extract from the article mentioned, please note the university, KU Leuven (Fr Ryan McAleer is having influence on church attitude to gay unions – doesn’t he work at that university?!). Moreover, Fr Ryan is supported in his recent use of Grindr and midnight sexual encounters in forests in Tyrone, by Archbishop Martin. Apparently the response from Armagh was “that is a matter for Ryan to address himself”.
“Fr Jos Moons, a theologian at KU Leuven university, told VRT that “homosexual relationships have been celebrated by some bishops and priests in Flanders for some time, albeit clandestinely and secretly. The fact that people now speak out so clearly is good news.”

1:36 this is the obvious solution and when a new Pope is appointed, rules can be changed & all outstanding allegations & abuse claims cancelled. We need many more Ryan McAleers to secure the future of our church. Bravo!

@9.28 – sir, you are correct. One rule the Pope should change is the canonical interpretation of adultery to include sexual relations with men (especially the married variety), as well as women. Then Ryan McAleer would not slip through the net 🙂

Same sex unions -well the Vatican eventually copped that the world was round, not flat. Hopefully the penny will drop with them on gay marriage soon. The Germans have the right idea.
Bill Mulvihill – this is actually quite a serious issue. Like many people on here (I daresay) I did not believe the globetrotting stories and was irritated at his political views. A lot of sensible people spend too much time watching RT (Russia Today) a channel which would make Lord Haw Haw blush. But I had no idea his situation is what it is. I thought he was writing his comments from the comfort of his apartment in Greystones and was convinced he was still there.
Clearly what is going on is a serious mental health issue worsened by being homeless. This I believe is further complicated by the fact that Bill is a priest and has no life skills at all like a normal person e.g. dealing with social welfare, housing etc. Stuck in his ways he may have run out of money and stopped paying the rent instead of getting dole and HAP. It is very sad.
At this stage is it worth referring the issue to Eamon Martin? Surely he has properties free somewhere that Bill could be given temporarily? Pat please publish this comment. Bill needs help.

Todd, with the pandemic, the council have become overwhelmed. I was unfortunate enough in my circumstance to have had to apply to be on it in 2021 , an application that should take 9-12 weeks, took 5 months in level 5 lockdown l before I could avail of support. I was working and told them to fuck off by then in disgust , I now in recent weeks have been fighting other cases and lobbying other peoples issues, and a few well worded letters that I have threatened to publish, purely just to give them a headache.i have comtacted the head of housing in recent weeks, not for my situation as I don’t need their support, I have contacted to local tds aswell to highlight the issue if ehat is really going on.
I was in saint Vincent de Paul recently and a woman in her pajamas with three kids hanging off her , got no help except a referral that day to another Charity and they are usually brilliant.
While not everyone on the council had that much difficulty, things are bad, very bad!

About the bishops and their same sex blessing plans. Get over it ! Have they not got more important issues to concern themselves with than spending an inordinate amount of time making judgements and decisions about peoples’ relationships ? Pretty much nobody else thinks that these things are important. It’s only the clergy who bang on about them, because its a self-creating theological and moral theology that makes them feel important, making decisions about other people. I think we have had enough of that clergy instant wisdom and telling us what to do. I would prefer to hear them say things about tax cuts for the rich, working people not being paid enough and having to go to food banks, about the zealotry and arrogance of politicians who blatantly are out to make life easier for their mates and their class. There is a lot of stuff the dear bishops could turn their minds to and keep themselves busy.

I have been involved in a few involuntary sectionings in the past and they are a bureaucratic nightmare to organise. The current law is an extreme reaction to older legislation which allowed people to be locked away much easier. This could and did lead to abuses. None of us has the right to speculate about his health, diagnose what we believe may be wrong and express a condescending, disingenuous concern after thrashing him on this blog. It is totally wrong to continue talking about Bill’s health. This ongoing commentary can only add to his pain.

He has Pat. But… As you say you suspect he is mentally ill so may not be in the best frame of mind to do what’s best for him. You advised him against publishing his letters but still did and I just think sometimes if we’re telling someone they need help but they won’t seek it we have to do what’s right.
Honestly Pat, if you were at your lowest ebb you would be horrified when you got better to find a friend had plastered your problems over the internet because you were public about it when you were ill.
That’s not helping.
Come on, you wouldn’t take an alcoholic on a pub crawl, so why you’re feeling the need to join in Bill’s own self humiliation is beyond me.

Bill publically and maliciously accused individuals of serious wrong doing here. They are very unlikely to get any financial recompense or apologies from a mentally unwell person with no fixed abode so they have had to put up with their reputations being trashed. He got precious or disappeared several times when he was challenged for facts. Please don’t pretend he didn’t relish inflicting cruelty on others.
He needs to connect homeless services immediately either Wicklow County Council or the Dublin authorities. I hope he ll do the sensible thing and get his life back. 🙏

6.32: How right you are. Bill delighted in making very serious allegations against many people in this blog. He used very threatening language. He didn’t listen to sound advice which some of us gave him. He was allowed to defame and slander many people. For quite some time I thought he manifested very clear symptoms of a very unwell man. What i find most worrying is that despite these concerns being expressed, Bill was given unquestioned access to exhibit some terrible human traits. There was a sensationalism about his utterances but God forbid that any of us should ever be subjected to the harsh, personalised invective he received. I hope Bill finds good, genuine friends who will truly care for his well being. Bill was pushed into this dreadfully dark place by so many of us on this blog. And I include myself because i commented nastily against him. This scenarion should never have happened nor should it ever occur again.

@6:32 If 1989 is a reference to New House I was also there in that year. I was always wary of Bill. He was quite wrong to use the blog to calumniate named individuals, not only taking away the good name to which everyone is entitled, but also putting people at risk of losing their jobs. I don’t wish him harm and don’t want anybody to be homeless or in need and I hope he gets better.

Who remembers the Dutch Catechism? The ultra-liberal Dutch Catholic Church is finished. Amsterdam is closing 99 churches, leaving only 28 open, in a diocese which extends far beyond the city limits. This is what happens with liberal churches. We will see similar closures in Ireland.

WM has shown that he is a man who can apologise. Tom Deenihan needs to learn a thing or two about that.

5:41, Priests rarely apologise, and bishops never apologise. To do so, for a bishop, would suggest wrongdoing and thus might leave him and his diocese open to legal peril. That is almost certainly the case with the continuous evils visited upon Dom Benedict by Tom Deenihan and his diocesan monastery, Silverstream Priory.

“In our societies it even seems that homosexuality is fashionable and that mentality, in some way, also influences the life of the church. This is something I am concerned about…”

He is right to be concerned. The Church, like Christ, is meant to be a sign of contradiction to the world, not of compromise with it.
If the Church and the world are at peace with each other, then the Church has become anti-Christ.

There was a rebellion even in Heaven, so we shouldn’t be surprised, or worried, by the latest one in the Church.
Scripture is undeniably clear: homosexual acts, whatever the circumstances, are gravely immoral; they debar one from the Kingdom, from God himself, unless repented of.
These bishops will have to face the scrutiny of God when they die. They are faithless servants. Unfaithful to God in life, they cannot be so in death. They are damning their souls, and, by their rebellion, are inviting others to do likewise by making them feel comfortable with sin.
This is no laughing matter, no small beer: souls are at stake.

And yet, you are listening to these bishops, because they seem prepared to tell you what you want to hear rather than what you need to know.
These men will become liked and popular among many; their names will be writ large. But not where it matters: in Heaven.
These men will bask in the spotlight of public approval, but only for a time. Then it will be time to face the consequences of their choices and their example.

‘Fundamentalism’? ‘Hate speech’? ‘Homophobia’? ‘Worst insanity’? You seem almost hysterical.
Show at least some courage.
If you are having homosex, that’s one thing. But, if you are a Christian, then have the courage to admit, to yourself if no one else, that this kind of sex is unequivocally condemned in the Bible, especially in the New Testament. Because if you rationalise it morally, your chances of repentance are reduced.
God help you (any of you engaing in this sort of sex) if you die unrepentant.
Those faithless servants of God who are encouraging people to be morally comfortable with homosexual acts are imperilling souls. God will, in time, allow them to see these acts as he does, and to know the souls lost through infidelity to moral truth and to false doctrine. Their judgement, perfect and irrefutable self-knowledge, will be terrible. They will condemn themselves, as did Judas Iscariot, convinced that they are beyond God’s mercy.
They will condemn themselves.

Spanish Roman Catholic bishop to Belgian Roman Catholic bishops: The Roman Catholic Church doesn’t have authority to bless gay unions
Catholic News Agency Staff By CNA Staff
September 23, 2022 Catholic News Agency The Dispatch 9Print
Denver Newsroom, Sep 23, 2022 / 14:00 pm (CNA).
The Roman Catholic bishop of Orihuela-Alicante in Spain, José Ignacio Munilla, reminded the Belgian Roman Catholic bishops that the blessing of gay unions goes against the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.
“It’s not that the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t love. It’s that she has no authority to do such a thing,” he cautioned.
The Roman Catholic prelate underscored in his Sixth Continent program on Radio Maria in Spain that the Belgian Roman Catholic bishops’ prayers for the blessing of gay unions are “clearly not compatible” with the declaration of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on this issue that was published March 15, 2021.
Munilla stressed that this incompatibility is manifest “no matter how much they’ve tried to force (the meaning of) words to the maximum,” calling the Belgian Roman Catholic bishops’ initiative a “moment for prayer.”
In this respect, the spokesman for the Belgian Roman Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Jesuit Father Tommy Scholtes, defended the blessing of same-sex couples since “it has nothing to do with marriage.”
In a statement to the Associated Press, Scholtes said that it’s “an opportunity for homosexual couples to pray together and for others to pray for them as well.”
Munilla noted that the Belgian Roman Catholic bishops’ blessing includes “expressions of commitment” between the homosexual persons who receive it and the commitment of ecclesial community to them.
“Let’s not play with words,” the Roman Catholic bishop reiterated, pointing out that “we must be sincere and transparent and say that it absolutely contradicts” what was affirmed by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
Munilla emphasized that what the Vatican dicastery has stated “is not that the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t love. It’s that she has no authority to do such a thing” as bless homosexual unions.
Blessings are sacramentals
The Roman Catholic Church has no such authority because a blessing is a sacramental.
According to the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, No. 1667, sacramentals “are sacred signs which bear a resemblance to the sacraments. They signify effects, particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Roman Catholic Church.”
The text continues: “By them, men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the sacraments, and various occasions in life are rendered holy.”
The Spanish Roman Catholic bishop explained that blessings, therefore, “must be objectively and positively ordered to the will of God” and that “the good will of those who receive them is not enough.”
There is no ‘unjust discrimination’
Thus, “it’s not lawful to impart a blessing on these relationships, even if they are stable, because they imply a sexual relationship outside of marriage,” the Roman Catholic bishop explained, in line with what was stated by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
For example, Munilla pointed out that the Roman Catholic Church cannot bless the union between a man and a woman living in adultery.
Thus, it’s not about “unjust discrimination” against people with homosexual inclinations, but about reclaiming “the truth of the liturgical act.”
“You can bless people with homosexual inclinations, but not a union that is not in accordance with the design of nature and God’s design,” the prelate stressed, because “it’s one thing to bless the sinner and another thing to bless the sin.”
Munilla said that, unlike the sacraments, sacramentals “can be received without being in the state of grace, but they call for conversion.”

Yes. The division will be
1. Those who want to be honest about sex and live according to Christian values and a modern understanding of sexuality.
2. Those who will say they want Catholic tradition but really want to be dishonest about sexuality and get away with what they can or live a shady/compulsive sex life.
The second group will be the larger, of course.

I am highly opinionated, sometimes right and, sometime wrong. I use material relevant to the topic in question on the day, that’s even though, it is not directly from me, but may be of interest to others, which is more than can be said from some other contributor, who go off topic at a tangent to suit their agenda.
I have noticed some smart a–e correcting other’s grammar, as I am not too clever, I find this very impolite habit both aggravating and very offensive, and a bullying strategy, which must be inhibiting to some, which of course is, what it’s meant to do, all bullies want to exert power over other, making other feel less, by correcting spelling is a prime example, For God’s sake we are not at primary school.
