DOCTRINE v GOD’S REVELATION TO MAN.

THE SYNODAL PATH v TRADITIONAL DOCTRINE.

On October 6, 2022, Raymond Arroyo interviewed Cardinal Gerhard Müller regarding the synodal process that has been taking place within the Catholic Church over the past two years.

Arroryo asks, “As someone who has dedicated his life to protecting this Doctrine and extending it – you were head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith – what must you think as you watch a system being created where all of that doctrine seems to be up for grabs, where anyone can, by a popular vote, can toss out or pull in doctrines of the moment because that is given more weight than the time-tested eternal doctrines that the Church has embraced and championed since the time of Christ?”

Cardinal Müller responds, “The basis of the church is the word of God, is a revelation, and not our strange reflections about this and these things. This is a system of self-revelation and is the occupation of the Catholic Church, a hostile takeover of the Church of Jesus Christ…”

Arroryo and Müller go on to discuss many concerning aspects of the synodal process.

PAT SAYS

The two opposing sides of this argument are, in my view, being extreme.

As Christians, we cannot deny such basic doctrines like the Trinity, the Incarnation, the Resurrection etc.

But you cannot put things like homosexuality, divorce and the ordination of women at the same level as the basic and ancient beliefs that are Christianity’s foundation stones.

I think that Jesus Himself summed it up perfectly when he said

“He said to them, ‘Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

Matthew 13:52

There are truths as old as God Himself.

And there are other truths that are new and that come from the Holy Spirit working through the men, women, children and circumstances of the time in which we live.

A worrying aspect of the Synodal Path is that it represents the views of only 1% of the world’s 1.3 billion Catholics.

Could that be the tail wagging the dog?

The Church is challenged to balance God’s old treasures and His new treasures.

Old does not always equal bad.

Nor does new always equal good.

We need discernment.

Nor should the Church be hijacked by conservatives or liberals.

Nor should the Church always have to bow the knee to the PC groups like the LGBT+ group, the Gender group, the feminist group or any other group.

We should sincerely try and discern what God wants and then do it regards of who it pleases or displeases.

And, at the back of this there is a real danger of schism – especially if one side or the other lifts their ball and storms off the pitch.

DOM ALCUIN and I have decided to take our correspondence away from the public forum of this blog and to engage in a private correspondence and dialogue.

Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you

    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

    But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

    And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

    And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

    To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

    If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

    And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Bishop Pat, you rightly say ‘A worrying aspect of the Synodal Path is that it represents the views of only 1% of the world’s 1.3 billion Roman Catholics’.
Exactly, in the same way that the Roman Catholics deny child rape, human slavery, trafficking children on false travel documents etc., they also knowingly and conveniently and falsely represent themselves by deliberately PRETENDING to speak for and to represent baptised Catholics who have and want nothing to do with these self glorified paedophile and parasite protectors for obvious reasons stated above.
The truth is that, thankfully, these nasty control freaks lost the right and power to speak for anybody a very long time ago due to all of the outstanding and unresolved cases of proven abuse etc.

That is not true in my experience. I regularly visit two churches in London and both have a congregation that reflects general demographics with one, in particular, having a lot of young BME worshippers.

Wearing masks is sensible and basic Christian courtesy with the current rising number of Covid19 infections in England. I have not been wearing one in church but certainly do whenever on a train/tube etc.

Like

The bishops closed the churches during covid and busybodies in churches insist that people still wear masks, even though they are gone everywhere else.
The Novus Ordo demographic is old ladies and they’ve been scared witless that churches are full of covid. They won’t be coming back, and nobody is replacing them. The decline would have happened naturally over the next decade anyway but the covid overreaction has hastened the decline by 10 years. Well done, my lord bishops.

The Synodal stuff stinks of failure and desperation, a last chance saloon. Yet the way it operates, a Putin democracy where the result is pre-determined, suggests a dogged determination to go ‘full steam ahead, damn the torpedos.’
Perhaps Dom Alcuin and his monastery (who represented himself very well here) and +Pat doing their own thing and surviving through donations not piles of mysterious investments and schemes, represent the actual future of the Church. The old alliance of Church and state has left a long trail of victims, with the mother and baby homes the most notorious. Yet the nature of an Irish state which led the world in just thing, the rate at which they detained people in mental homes and other institutions, must also be questioned. The actual wrongdoing of priests, brothers and nuns is crucial, but to focus on it ignores a bigger picture. The backwardness of Irish orphanages was noted by Fr Flanagan of Boystown in the early 50s prompting little more than some civil service memos and maybe some Oireachtas questions. Ireland’s hereditary ruling class seem to be made an unwritten or secret agreement. Leave the political class out of it, or usefully obfuscate, and religious institutions will find things too hard. It’s a speculation, that’s all we have in this context.

Do not be afraid to share your pain or to articulate that which you seek in the Church but do not find. You are part of the Church by your Baptism and in this synodal process the voice of every baptised person is equal. Ask the Holy Spirit who dwells in your heart to give you the words that your Church needs to hear.” – Tom Deenihan.
Does Dom Benedict Andersen feel that he is on the margins of the Church, or at worst does he feel excluded from the Church? Did the bishop hear his voice?
I ask Tom for his honesty. Dom Benedict Andersen, nor anyone, should not be afraid to share their pain or to articulate that which they seek in the Church but do not find.
Tom is the Ordinary of the diocese of Meath. He must ask the Holy Spirit who dwells in his heart to give him the words and guide his actions, that his diocese needs to hear and see. Dom Benedict Andersen, the true Prior of Silverstream, must be provided with his letter of good standing without delay.
How could Tom Deenihan ask anyone to embrace the synodal process as he continues his persecution of Dom Benedict Andersen?

7:46 Well said Seamus. But the sad truth is that most Irish Bishops & their teams immediately set to work to punish anyone who threatens their cozy little arrangements. Bishop Tom Deenihan is no different to the rest of them Irish Bishops. Many continue to suffer in silence until death at the hands of the clergy and their laity volunteers in Irish church and elsewhere.

Karen we have had our disagreements but fundamentally I believe you have been diabolically treated and are probably still owed money. But at this point it is clear your efforts are vexatious. You are not trying to get redress you are simply trying to cause trouble and upset. Your kids were brought to the usual communion talk by the school but you have spun it as part of conspiracy you think Killaloe are orchestrating against you. What the school exactly has to do with your platonic (though admittedly costly) relationship with GF I simply don’t know but it’s a bit unfair to be dumping this on the school. The school’s primary function is to educate your kids, not take sides or listen to highly personal out-of-school controversies.
As for data retention again you have more stuff put on here than the KGB or your heroes Mossad could have gotten by stealth. It is simply farcical that you are taking this line and again it is vexatious in the extreme.
You’ve already reported him to the taxman whose interest nobody wants and will likely follow him for life. For your own sake drop this – you are going to spoil your relations with the school for no good reason at all. Find peace and let go.

As a mother, you should be ashamed of yourself. On top of that you put the blame on his school for not alerting you, which I find strange. When my children were going for first communion practice, I always got word beforehand. The whole class of communicants would have been taken, not just your child. Now today we read that youve changed your mind and went as far as to threaten the bishop of killaloe with your slanderous comment, if he went against your child being allowed to make first holy communion. Karen your behaviour is outrageous towards the school and church and you need to take a good hard look at yourself before you decide to make a commenn such as these, on a public blog. 3:10 it appears very confusing to be dabbling in all these different religions, Karen is quoting Hebrew on this blog one day, hob nobbing with the Limerick Protestants the next & tomorrow she’s apparently taking on Fr Michael Collins from the local Roman Catholic Church. What’s he going to make of her one wonders. Surely it would make more sense to pick one religion and stick with it or indeed just let Roman Catholic School get on with whatever preparation they presumably do every year if she has chosen a Roman Catholic school for her children. It’s going from bad to worse. Fr Fitzgerald must be laughing his head off whilst he counts his wages somewhere. It might be time for a complete religion detox & take time out to carefully consider ones options. Bishop has made it clear that he ignores anyone he discovers on Buckley’s blog as it’s a handy excuse to avoid helping parishioners with genuine outstanding issues. He probably reads this blog himself to inform his actions to protect Killaloe interests. Not sensible to be putting kids in firing line in all this mess. Don’t understand why she allowed a priest from Ennis into her home in Cratloe anyway, he had no business approaching her, she was not his parishioner. Ah, Revelation ! Muller and co so easily just talk about a revelation that is immutable and to be taken as The Truth. Even though I didn’t spend too much time paying close attention to what I was being taught about scripture and revelation, and doctrine for that matter, at the time (I was just having too much fun being a young seminarian in Rome ! And why not ?!), what I do remember thinking is that all this certainty is predicated on a pile of old books and scriptures that have a dodgy provenance and were clearly written by people who had an agenda, as well as being the product of a pile of semites of various descriptions who really were just wandering sheep and goat herders. How come everybody is giving so much credence and primacy to this stuff !? No. When someone like Muller etc goes on about the truth of scripture and revelation, what they are really talking about is their own desire to keep things as they want them to be and not to change anything. Some goes with Church doctrine and teaching about pretty much anything. It all has a very questionable genesis and origin, and it is clearly contrived and constructed to create what those in authority and power and influence want it to be. I prefer to think for myself these days rather than to be beholden to the ossified views of people like Muller.

I think it’s interesting to compare it to, say, belief in ghosts. Nobody can deny that through millenia humans have had the experiences that are interpreted as ghosts. For example seeing dead relatives isn’t at all unusual.
But I’m not sure the experiences should be interpreted as meaning ghosts objectively exist, which is exactly the problem with revealed religion.
I can say that you have seen your deceased relative but get unhappy when you force me to believe she’s actually objectively following you around. It’s a subjective experience and not necessarily made up.

Are you suggesting that former Roman Catholics or, excluded Roman Catholic e.g. divorced and, remarried, and LGBTQIA+ have no opinion on the Church, and it’s travails, plus it’s fall from grace?
I suggest to you that many of that particular cohort of Roman Catholics are more likely to spend far more time on musing on their lost faith, than those who are craw-thumping every Sunday, with their hour of religion, forgotten about until the light on the steps of their church 7 days later, “Out of sight out of mind”
It’s easy to be religious but, near impossible to be holy. I neither claim to be one or, the other.
Once a Catholic always one, whether disillusioned or not, not dissimilar to, the laicized Catholic priests.
I hope Pat agrees, that his blog is open the all, lapsed Catholic or not, who has a contribution to make, and sticks to the topic of the day, instead of spuriously and, wildly digressing to anything, but the day’s subject.
I have nothing to say about myself, no more than you.

As the funerals of all who tragically lost their lives in Creeslough begin, let us pray for them, for their families who grieve painfully. What an unimaginable tragedy for a small community! Let us pray too for the priests who will officiate at these funeral masses that God will guide them and bless their words, their hearts and mind’s. Fr. Duffy has been an exceptionally pastoral, kind and empathetic man all along. God bless him and other clergy. Tragedies like these affect us all emotionally and humanly.

Bishop Pat, Karen is now fighting a battle for her children to receive their first Holy Communion something she swore she would never allow them to do. She casually changes her mind but we dare question her or challange and we’re deemed the worst and told to eat dust. You call out hypocrisy so call her out the next time she gives out and insults the faithful.

Do you have nothing more to offer Clare? You should hear the things you know who said about you…

Pat are your doing anything for the hurting people of Creeslough? A Mass, prayer service or maybe a candlelight vigil in there memories.
All other bishops have organised something.

Is it the case that this American lady is some kind of a social climber who was flattered when contacted by a Roman Catholic priest? Why was she driving around the countryside with him, buying him clothes & gym membership. I’m not married but I know my Dad & brothers would not accept this from my mother or my sisters in law & as a responsible aunt & godmother to my nieces & nephews, I would be entitled to voice my concerns on their behalf & wouldn’t hesitate to do so. Given the reaction of ordinary Irish people to all the abuse scandals, even elderly people openly say they don’t trust priests or only have the bare minimum to do with priests even when they decide to continue going to mass. Our parish priest Im sure is a perfectly nice man, he does a few masses for us over the year but I have no intention of allowing him to cross boundaries in the unlikely event he would attempt to do so. From what I read on here most of them are gay or swingers! Also I’ve never heard or seen of any priests calling to houses and staying overnight. I’d imagine they stay with family or long term friends, very odd to be staying with newly met families. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, maybe American priests sleep in parishioners houses, it’s not an Irish thing as far as I know. Whatever the reason, Karen needs to repair her own family from the inside out. Forget about priests & maybe the kids Dad can deal with school if she wants them to have the sacraments. I do hope you find inner peace & move on from all this hurt & agony you are clearly experiencing. Fr Fitzgerald was not the one for you. One may kiss many frogs before they meet their prince and maybe you have a prince at home that you are overlooking. The grass is not always greener the other side of the fence. You will get nothing but more pain & heartache pursuing whatever you think Fr Fitzgerald & his friends can give you. They are clearly empty vessels. Pax.

10.25. Elaine, you have to remember that the country people sometimes have what Bishop Pat once described as Catholic myxomatosis.

RTE Investigates returns to the story of Fr Niall Molloy on Tuesday 11th October @ 9:35pm with new evidence. Those following this crime dating back to 1985 will recall that his parish priest asked member of An Garda Siochana if it could be covered up to avoid public scrutiny on the church and family allegedly linked to murder took & sold Fr Molloys assets & kept funds without reference to his next of kin.

It sounds as if MMM was in seminary before Divino afflante Spiritu of Pius XII (1943) or in a seminary where news of the encyclical hadn’t yet reached.
