HAS EAMON MARTIN BEEN AIDING AND ABETTING RYAN MC ALEER?

TWO DAY BLOG

MC ALEER

Ryan M. Aleer is a doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, and a member of the Research Unit Systematic Theology and Study of Religion.

His previous studies include a Bachelor (double honours) in History and Philosophy from Maynooth University, Ireland, in 2008, and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, in 2011. After several years working as the Diocesan Advisor for Religious (Primary) Education in the Archdiocese of Armagh (Ireland), he obtained a Research Master: Master of Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion with a major in Systematic Theology, as well as a Licentiate of Sacred Theology, at KU Leuven in 2021. He has just completed a Master of Education at Queen’s University, Belfast (2022).

His doctoral research, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lieven Boeve and Prof. Dr. Didier Pollefeyt, explores the systematic theological foundations of the Catholic Dialogue School. A study of the dialogical philosophies of Emmanuel Lévinas and Martin Buber will help the project propose a rich concept of dialogue with which to understand divine revelation. This, in turn, hopes to provide the systematic theological underpinnings for a vision of the Catholic Dialogue School in the post-secular, post-Christian, and post-conflict context of Northern Ireland.

He is a member of the European Society for Catholic Theology, the European Academy of Religion.

MARTIN

I have had direct contact with young men who claim that they have been sexually assaulted by Ryan Mc Aleer!

I know for a fact that EamonMartin has personally some of these victims.

I know for a fact that the Armagh Safeguarding Officer, Aidan Gordan.

GORDON

One of those victims has told me personally that Eamon Martin said HE BELIEVED HIM!

After one incident a young man was left with serious human bite marks on his body!

One young male victim made a formal complaint to the PSNI and that complaint was vestigated – resulting in the situation where it was the victim’s word against the word of the alleged perpetrator.

Since ordination in 2012 Ryan Mc Aleer has been the blue eyed boy and given pleasant and cushy appointments.

He has been the favourite of first Brady and now E Martin.

As we saw above:

After several years working as the Diocesan Advisor for Religious (Primary) Education in the Archdiocese of Armagh (Ireland), he obtained a Research Master: Master of Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion with a major in Systematic Theology, as well as a Licentiate of Sacred Theology, at KU Leuven in 2021. He has just completed a Master of Education at Queen’s University, Belfast (2022).

Mc Aleer has been a priest for 10 years. And for most of that time he has been hanging around schools and doing further studies – all paid for by Eamon Martin.

He has also been supported and lionised by the local GAA.

Living in the Dungannon are he has earned a reputation for his heavy drinking and associated with the use of other substances.

He has laughed in the faces of people who have told him that Karma will catch up with him.

On who or where will EAMON MARTIN now impose him

BRADY met his Waterloo over his disgraceful interviewing of the little boys abused by BRENDAN SMITH.

Will RYAN MC ALEER be EAMON MARTIN’S Waterloo?

Shame on Ryan Mc Aleer.

A double shame on EAMON MARTIN.

Bishop Pat,
I seem to recall Sir, that a good few months ago, perhaps even years ago, you proclaimed that for the victim’s sake you would never let this Ryan McAleer story go. I salute you, Sir. Mr McAleer/Fr McAleer/Dr McAleer. Call himself what he likes, you cannot polish a …

With Ryan’s membership of such professional bodies, and an obvious desire to venture into academia, should we assume KU Leuven, Leuven GAA, the Loyola Institute and EuARe are all unaware of his illegal sexual offences?

If so, I will personally inform them. As a member of Armagh diocese, I firstly urge the people to stop funding parasites. There will inevitably be the McAleer Mafia; the inbred Rock/Slatequarry/Pomeroy brigade. Let them have their say. I, like you Pat, support his victim. The victim in Maynooth. The victim he left in a psychiatric unit. This victim you refer to. Frankly, his KU Leuven CV is only half written.

Pat, we can all see that Ryan is running out of road.

The bottom line is that it’s a Mafia, if they not doing something wrong, they are protecting via whatever means necessary the interests of the RCC as scandal doesn’t fill their bank accounts & there’s always the unthinkable risk it might empty some RCC bank accounts & that won’t do, now will it…..

I have lived in Dungannon all of my live. I can only speak about what has been said in the parish. The identity of the person who started these rumours in the original is widely known and it has been discredited. If there is some bit of evidence to back all of this up people might take notice but it seems to be rumour and rumour and not much else. We parishioners can only going on what we know. We have found him to be genuine and that is the truth of the story.

Like

8:15pm I think you speak sense. If Pat is the only (social) media forum making these claims we do need to question its truth. If complainants are not willing to go to the PSNI (and if they are but the case is not taken on) we have to question the morality of repeating such claims. If these claims were taken to the PSNI why has no action been taken years later? What has happened to ‘innocent until proven guilty’.
I am no fan of priests generally, including McAleer, who I do think comes across arrogant, but I think we need to be careful repeating claims that are being made on a gossip blog. If these claims had been authenticated I would think we’d have heard about it from other sources. Why was this priest not stood aside like others (Coyle, McCann and others)?
What is to stop people making allegations about anyone else via this blog and them being printed as truth?
Whatever ‘evidence’ you have seen Pat, to make you feel it appropriate to publish these allegations, it mustn’t stand up in a court of law or action would have been taken? I would like to hear if the case is otherwise.
Agree or disagree with me but trial by social media is dangerous.

I thought I was the only one to notice that. My son started St Joseph’s Donaghmore there in September; I was on the school prospectus online a few months ago and couldn’t believe what was there. The school has developed links with these universities outside of Donaghmore:
– St Mary’s University College Belfast
– St Patrick’s College Maynooth
– KU Leuven in Belgium
Then I clicked – Fr Ryan McAleer is involved with each of these institutions too, especially Belgium. Why is his interests so aligned with this school?
Bishop Pat, does the Principal/management of St Joseph’s Grammar Donaghmore know what is under their noses? And why are teachers facilitating links with institutions where people like Fr Ryan McAleer exist.
Perhaps an open letter to Donaghmore Convent might address the issue?

Bishop Pat, is anyone looking into the practice Aidan Gordon? Is he covering this up? Surely he must be aware of Ryan McAleer and his sexcapades.

Like

There is clearly something dodgy about McAleer. If what + Pat says is true, his bishop is aware of his behaviour, which by any measure is not the behaviour of a priest vowed to chastity and celibacy. Some of his behaviour has been the subject of police investigation. Something is not right here. I take it that his penchant is for young men, perhaps not those under the age of consent, but also perhaps by coercive means. His posting to Leuven may be a way of getting him out of the way for a while, but this problem will have to come home again and will continue to cause problems. I would suggest that the time has come for + Martin to take some definitive action and move this man out of ministry and put him under some very strict restrictions of prayer and penance, with perhaps a bit of academic study and work, although without contact with students. Or to cut him loose completely and make him make his own way. + Martin knows too much, has done too little, and by any judgement has been lax and careless in his management of this man. Which means that he has continued to put young men at danger by allowing this man to continue in an elevated and respected position with protection from on high. Not good. A disaster in the waiting which will soon blow up under + Martin’s arse.

Like

7:20 the Belgian police might be less disposed toward the church if reported there.

Like

Oh, if he’s there long enough it will only be a matter of time ! More importantly, his bishop and the safeguarding people in his diocese should be looking at him very closely and deciding what to do. At the moment they seem to just be taking the path go least resistance and largely ignoring what is being reported and giving him the huge benefit of the doubt. This man is a time bomb waiting to go off, and they are going to find themselves in big trouble because of him. I would also suggest that, given his predilections, there is a danger to young men around him being sexually manipulated and even assaulted. That should set all kinds of alarm bells ringing, which you, + Pat, are trying to do. They, too, know about this and are being criminally careless in their oversight. They like to claim that they have responsibility and authority. Well, now is the time for them to use it.

8:57 the allegations and investigations that took place in Ireland were not disclosed when Fr Ryan McAleer entered Belgium. Students at Irish Universities have to undergo Garda vetting prior to admittance so don’t understand how he allegedly circumvented this at Trinity College Dublin. Friends in high places???

Like

Giselle 8:57
I think you have perhaps hit the nail on the head. How have these allegations not been picked up by vetting. Maybe the reason for this is that they are just that, allegations. There cannot have been a police investigation at any point over the last 2/3 years or McAleer would not have been allowed to leave the country and take up residence elsewhere. I would think that explains why these allegations have not be reported anywhere else but on this blog.
What do you think, Bishop Pat? I would like to hear how you think this has been allowed to happen/why these allegations are not in the mainstream public domain. You are probably best placed to answer this given you have the facts to hand.

Like

I hate to break it to you, but priests whose behaviour is not disposed towards celibacy and have been investigated by the police, have been routinely protected and facilitated by bishops. All this indicate is that it’s continuing.
The only difference is the target is reportedly adults, not children.

What lay person in their right mind would take on this role when it’s clear that nothing has changed from the top down. Whether paid or voluntary they consistently come out on the side of the Church so are not to be trusted. They gain the confidence of the victim to garner information to prepare a defence for the church against the victim.

A characteristic of cults is that they are perpetually in conflict with the wider society. It naturally follows that a member of a cult would think the cult knows better about safeguarding and would expect to be protected if the shit hits the fan. If the feared outside world comes for them cult members will drink the Kool aid.
Does this answer why anyone would do safeguarding in the RC church?
Actually it would be really strange on your first day, finding all the empty shelves of shredded records.

What’s the story on the new bishop for East Anglia?

Safe, anodyne, boring, and with a marvellous set of false teeth. What more do you want ? He’s going to spend his days driving around the endless expanses of East Anglia where they have webbed feet and three nostrils. Poor man. He is to be pitied more than congratulated.

Like

You say it correctly, “he’s been made a bishop”. Parachuted in from the other side of the country, another diocese and another country (Wales). With, I would suggest, no thought to what the good people of East Anglia might want. What arrogance. It would be good if people stood up and said, as I think they did in Switzerland once, that they did not want this bishop foisted on them. Mind you, Frankie faced down a similar situation in Nigeria and forced a bishop of a diocese, and then to make matters worse and to rub noses in it, he made him a cardinal recently ! The whole bishops etc appointment system is just incestuous and manipulative, allowing whoever is in control to appoint more of their own, irrespective what the faithful think or want. We’ve had a bit the same with the Wooden Truss imposed on us, but at least we will get a chance to vote her out in a while. That’s not the case with bishops we have imposed on us from on high. We are stuck with them, good or bad.

Today’s blog is important and I do not seek to distract attention from it. Yesterday, however, a new Bishop of East Anglia was appointed. Notice of the appointment was found on the Italian language edition of the Vatican Daily Bulletin. It is very likely that many readers do not read the bulletin or read Italian, which is more than unfortunate. Being fluent in Italian, I was able to read and translate the news, placing a message on this blog. Nobody commented about such exciting news for many Catholics in East Anghlia and beyond. That was rather shocking.
Unusually, the appointee is from Cardiff. It is rare for a Welshman to be elevated to the English episcopate. My contacts tell me this is an excellent appointment and one to watch as Archdiocesan appointments become available. Just about every commentator on here, speculating about the vacancy, was wrong, plain wrong. I was able to break the good news and, indeed, was forunate to have early word about it appearing in Italian. I am sorry to say that speculation about episcopal appointments are a sign of mischief making and error. Wait for a sign from someone with good connections to the Nuncio and, frankly, keep silence if you do not.

As in Nursie from the Blackadder series about court of Liz 1. The present day Nursie is a dear, however quite ineffectual. His diocese is going down the tubes, losing money hand over fist, mostly ministered to these days by priests from the Indian subcontinent, still some others from Poland, but really struggling with manpower. He’s got a whole swathe of priests of reasonably active age either in prison, MIA (Eddie Clare, Joh Gilbert) or early retired – even some who have just upped sticks and headed back to Ireland because they are so pissed off. He leaves the dirty work to a few hatchet men, like his VG. His cathedral is on life support with hardly anything going on there headed up by a lazy dean. Nursie seems to be comfortable in his own little bubble of his nun and his secretary, only venturing out to do the odd confirmation. The place is going to implode pretty soon. He’s definitely not the man who will be heading down to Westminster when Vin finally shuffles off to retirement or his heavenly reward. And, looking at what they’ve just appointed to East Anglia ( I know, it is a backwater !) after a two year search, does not give much confidence as to the quality of the gene pool amongst English (or Welsh !) clergy. And don’t put too much store on the next generation of golden boys, like Ballsanella, who will head off when it is convenient for them to pastures green or in to the sweaty embrace of some gay beau. My own guess is that they will bring back Paul Gallagher from Rome to succeed Elsie and head things up. Once he’s finished kowtowing to the Chinese. It’s a sorry state of affairs. And you think you’ve got problems in Ireland !

One went to be a deacon and disappeared.
One went to be a priest and left because his bishop wanted to move him to a new parish (it was his first move…)
The other is Ryan, at 18, attracted to “the novelty of being a priest”, his vocation was “questioned” by “some” ever before going to Maynooth (and appears to still be under question).
My big question however is; if you have an investigation that comes down to one person’s word against the other… do you take the risk of placing the accused into a school setting where he has substantially increased absence to vulnerable children or do you follow due diligence and place him into a setting that can reduce the risk – such as placing Ryan into an army or prison chaplaincy post? If he tried it in the Army or Prison Ryan may just meet his own waterloo… So big question number 2, why is Eamon’s judgement so compromised with Ryan?

Your constant reminder at 3:43 that the cult will threaten and intimidate anyone who they see as threatening them.
Incidentally the tactic of making out someone has secrets is a common and particularly nasty blackmail trick, so it’s not surprising to see the cult using it.

Your comment reminds me of the words of Kipling
“You can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves”.
I wish the people of Cresslough and especially the bereaved all the possible comfort they couldu have just now and in the future.
I know nothing of Fr Duffy’s private life and take him at face value and laud him for what he is trying to do this week.
Cresslough is a micro community.
I was talking of the macro corrupt institution which is the RCC. It needs to be a solutely starved of funding and adherents.
The only way to kill a serpent is to cut off its head.
I will leave it to those to whom I have ministered for 46 years to judge whether or not I am capable of doing what Raphoe clerics have done this week.
By the way, there are Raphoe clerics who put their Willie’s in each other and attend the Boilerhouse.
One of the most notorious Irish priest paedophiles was Greene of Raphoe.
An here is you this evening trying to use the Cresslough tragedy to cover up abuse, cover up and all clerical misbehaviour in Raphoe!
You want to use the Cresslough tragedy as a fig leaf for Raphoe clergy.
Get back to your Sanhedrin meeting.

That’s a classic way of avoiding (or not being able to face) the problem. Another example would be only looking at the small picture and making out a particular abusive priest is just an isolated incident and failing to see the whole picture.
Fr Daniel Doherty who was our parish priest in the archdiocese of Birmingham for no apparent reason until the police came for him, was also a Raphoe priest.

10.26: A good comment. Most priests generally will do their utmost best, spiritually and pastorally, to respond caringly to bereaved families and to tragedies in communities. I’ve had a number of tragic moments over 40 years and as a priest you only see the loss, the grief, the devastation and pain. You don’t question the “faith” but accompany people where they are at. The kind, caring humanity and empathy of the priest is what matters. The church will be the place where most people – for now- will want their remembrance mass or prayer service to take place. We still have much to offer through our sacred, Christian rituals. But the scene is changing as people are now freer to opt for non religious services. I think there is huge expectation on priests today to always be “the best” you can be or should be. We are not superhuman. I don’t buy into the cliched argument that “life could be worse for you”. Yes, it can and could be. However, despite the depth of my faith and my efforts to respond differently to each funeral it is very difficult at times to feel inspired, prayerful, kind and sensitive. To be a truly pastoral priest (in the best sense) requires deep inner trust in God, a conviction that there is meaning to what I’m doing. It requires that I put as much caring preparation into each funeral mass. It is not an easy task. It is possible to simply go through the ritual without any emotion or feeling and just spoof through. If I ever reach this stage I think I’d give up! A priest can easily go through all liturgical moments and yet not have a faith of any depth. What disturbs me most is precisely what you said – the days when you know you cannot believe the words of the Requiem Mass or make them come alive..and moreso when no one sitting in front of you utters a response and in your 4th funeral in one week, as I’ve had many times. After 40 years I have often contemplated going to a desert poustinua to “find” God and myself…I admire the priests who, when confronted with the “burden” of belief or unbelief, decide to leave priesthood. There is a case to argue that too much liturgical/religious language can be very overwhelming. Oh to be a poet of great imagination!

Two good priests John Joe Duffy and Brian O Fearraigh stepped up to the plate and ‘fronted’ everything. When a community is traumatised like this, the local priest is one of the few, able and equipped, to respond,at short notice, regardless of any actual beliefs of any of the deceased. Tradition is very strong especially in an area like this in Donegal / Raphoe.. it is a familar ritual in a familiar place for communities to cling to… one of the more admirable roles assumed by Irish RCC. But this too will pass. Generations of drift from the Church, will wash even this away.. I dreaded these kinds of days as a priest, as all the platitudes of requiem become harder to mouth, with each passing funeral. Slowly but surely priests and people say the words but no longer believe them anymore..as has been commented here by you Bishop Pat and others, the Church is a business not a faith organisation. Frs Brian and John Joe will soon get back to the day job .. counting money.. dealing in property, controlling schools. John Joe was schooled by a master. Pat The Cope Gallagher.. ex FF TD, minister and MEP. As for me.. ‘I struck the board and cried no more I willl abroad’ now I happily join the ranks of the happily ex priests/ functioning atheists.. the silent majority of current and ex Irish padres..

As if we needed yet another reminder that the church’s apparatchiks have literally no understanding of abuse and gaslight those alleging it happened.

Like

No its not strange at all as it can take years to get the courage to speak about the abuse they suffer and some people take their pain to the grave. Sex abuse and paedophilia are all about control and the power of having power over a person and having them do whatever you want. The shame of being under the control of such evil sickness can take a long time to talk about. Tyrants of political power can control people for years and its only when they break free from their oppressor can they start to heal.

That’s fair enough, Pat, but unfortunately he has put his own question mark over all he says, because is saying that he was mentally incapacitated and drugged up at the time, but he remembers this “happening” clearly. Something doesn’t add up. People deserve their good name and there is lots of evidence to the contrary of what he is saying. No doubt some people will be delighted at his accusation. It’s an interesting moment for the blog.

Who Knew?
The sexual-abuse crisis and ‘epistemic injustice’
By Bernard G. Prusak. October 10, 2022.
” What have we learned from the Catholic Church’s sexual-abuse scandal? What didn’t we know before that we know now? One way to answer these questions is to catalogue the revelations of the past few decades. To begin with, we now know, better than we did before, the extent of the abuse. In France, for example, with the recent publication of the monumental report from the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuses in the Church, it’s clear that this is by no means just an “American problem,” as the French bishops had wanted to believe in the early 2000s. We also know that framing sexual abuse as a problem of chastity rather than justice was a deep mistake that led many bishops to send offenders to psychological treatment and then assign them to a different parish or ministry—what Peter Steinfels has called the “Go and sin no more” attitude to sexual abuse.”

The most evident characteristic of the Catholic Church in England and Wales is that it is shrinking at an incredible rate into what must be termed a state of terminal decline.
The official Catholic Directory documents a steady increase in every important aspect of Catholic life until the mid-sixties: then the decline sets in. The figures for marriages and baptisms are not simply alarming, but disastrous. In 1944 there were 30,946 marriages, by 1964 the figure had risen to 45,592—–but by 1999 it had plunged to 13,814, well under half the figure for 1944. The figures for baptisms for the same years are 71,604 (1944), 137,673 (1964), and 63,158 (1999). With fewer children born to Catholic couples each year, the number of marriages must inevitably continue to decline, with even fewer children born—–and so on. Nor can it be presumed that even half the children who are baptized will be practicing their Faith by the time they reach their teens. An examination of the figures for a typical diocese indicates that less than half the children who are baptized are confirmed, and a report in The Universe as long ago as 1990 gave an estimate of only 11% of young Catholics practicing their Faith when they leave high school.
Apart from marriages and baptisms, Mass attendance is the most accurate guide to the vitality of the Catholic community. The figure has plunged from 2,114,219 in 1966 to 1,041,728 in 1999 and is still falling at a rate of about 32,000 a year.
In 1944, 178 priests were ordained in E&W; in 1964, 230; and in 1999 only 43—–and in the same year 121 priests died.

Bishop Patrick, I don’t always agree with your wee blog but I am just replying to the permanent deacon comment. Please do not ordain a permanent deacon from my own painful experience of having one. He set about undermining me from day one, wore his clerical collar non stop, loved being called Father and badmouther me. His wife was worse than him because she regarded herself as the cleric’s wife and talked down to parishioners and lorded it over them. Some dioceses in England & Wales have so many permanent deacons. Most priests being granted new parishes are asking if the the new parish has a permanent deacon? Most decline on hearing yes and it’s my view that the permanent diaconate has gone down like a lead balloon or a secret smelling fart. Pax

If these allegations have foundation how on earth has this not been publicised outside this blog? Is there (or has there ever been) a police investigation? If there has what was the outcome? And what does the outcome tell us? I would genuinely be interested to hear some facts here. If there is no active police investigation it seems incredible that such stories are being published. Please do correct me if I am mistaken and there is an investigation. I don’t mean to offend but this all seems quite incredible.

For now, no charges. I believe the victim who spoke to me. He says that Eamon Martin also said he believed him.

But, of course, I do realise that criminal courts need a high bar of evidence.

This case is typical of the difficulty faced by many women and men trying to “prove” rape or sexual assault.

Like

+Pat, I would be very cautious about this story. As a man of integrity, I know you want to do good and it would be a shame for your blog to be called into question by posting unverified stories.

The identity of the complainant is well known in the Dungannon/ Carland area. I have it on very solid authority that he has never gone to the police himself with this allegation.
I suspect this won’t make it to being posted on your blog. I hope it does as that would leave me wondering if there is a darker agenda and only one side is being posted.

I have no doubt this man needs help as he does have issues. But i fear this blog is allowing him the opportunity to publicise allegations that he is not willing to formalise and stand by legally. That is wrong.

+Pat. I will be in touch. I am certain that you have been told lies if that is what you have been told. Myself and a number of parishioners have been following this story closely with unease. Knowing who the complainant is filled us with immense unease. With the latest blog we felt we had to comment- we mulled it over for a few days.

I need to consider if I am going to forward the name. But I will give it good thought. It’s the complainants parents I feel for- they are unaware as far as I know- so I need to take my time to consider what is right to do.

Like

Thank you, +Pat. I think it’s important that the public know that there has been no charges brought. Your blog itself has noted many times that Eamon Martin cannot be trust so we need to throw caution to the wind with regards what he says he believes. I suppose we need to offer the accused the respect all humans are entitled to until found guilty.
How awful for both parties, including Fr McAleer. I can only imagine what it is like to have the unproven accusations made. A true tragedy for all concerned.
MC

Agreed. But RM has a ig track record among the clergy.

The Church still engages in massive cover up.

Victims are afraid of local backlash.

That may be the case, +Pat. However, on a moral level, we cannot assume guilt. It could be you or I tomorrow facing such allegations. I have three sons around his age and would be devastated if allegations that were unproven were being posted online without challenge. The threshold under the law is set at a level for a reason. If evidence doesn’t reach that threshold we cannot assume guilt. There have been many cases were innocent people have been destroyed by false claims. Let’s air on the side of caution as Christians. If he is guilty the law will prevail.
