The Blog can name the priest stabbed in Waterford yesterday as FATHER BOBIT AUGUSTHY.
He is a priest of the Order of Saint Camillus and a chaplain to University Hospital Waterford.
The stabbing happened st 9.30 am on Sunday morning.
A young man in his 20s has been arrested and is being questioned by Waterford Gardai.
A senior Waterford priest told the blog last night:
“The chaplain’s house is on the hospital campus but is in a very dark and out of the way place that is accessed by a narrow lane. I would not like to live there.
The locals are afraid that this vicipus attack was somehow drugs related. Drugs are a massive problem in Waterford now”.
THE FONZ SAYS
Bishop Cullinan added that he is also praying for the priest’s chaplaincy colleagues, who would have also been affected by the incident. “It’s a huge shock,” he said.
In a further statement on Sunday evening, the bishop said: “The priest who had been treated in University Hospital Waterford today following a stabbing incident has been discharged and has now returned to his residence. I wish to thank all for their concern, and ask that people remember him in their prayers at this time as well as the person who perpetrated this crime.”

The attack on Father Bobit was vicious and tragic.
He has come from India to assist in the Irish Church.
His order, The Order of St Camilus is dedicated to the care of the sick.
Hence, Fr Bobit’s presence as chaplain in Waterford hospital.
We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
We also pray for his young attacker who now finds himself in a very serious situation.

Sadly, they do happen occasionally.
