WHY ARE WE IGNORING THE VAST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE MORALITY?

SHEEHY DISGRACES HIMSELF ON RTE LIVEINE

https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/liveline/programmes/2022/1102/1332840-liveline-wednesday-2-november-2022//

The Kerry priest Sheehy is quite entitled to promote the OBJECTIVE teachings of his church but he is not entitled to judge people and the state of their souls.

Only GOD can judge the state of the soul of Leo Varadkar’s and whether or not Leo Varadkar will get to Heaven.

Fr Sheehy is certainly entitled to objectively judge people’s actions against the background of what he believes and teaches – even though many of us would disagree with him and his interpretations of both Scripture and doctrine.

But you step one step too far when you judge a person’s inner life and their liklihood of salvation.

And BEING GAY, like being heterosexual is not a sin.

Being gay is either the way you are born, or the result of some formative force – or a mixture of many things.

It’s like saying that being red-haired is a sin.

And Fr Sheehy is not, to my knowledge, privy to everything that goes on in the Varadkar household.

Maybe Leo and his partner exchange hugs? Hugs are not sins.

Or kisses? And kisses are not sins.

Why is it that so many of these “conservative,” Catholics and Christians seem to be totally focused on what gay people do with their bits and bobs.

As if life, gay or straight, was only about bits and bobs.

We have a sleeping life, an eating and drinking life, a working life, a hobbies life, a social etc.

I know many couples, straight and gay, who do not have a physical sexual side to their relationship but are bound together by bonds of love, friendship, ompanionship etc.

Would Sheehy say are living in sin and going to Hell?

The RCC has a hang up about sex and always have had that hang up.

Why is this Sheehy Sheehy just concentrating on sexual sins?

Is that his hang up to?

I’m sure there’s plenty of other sins going on in Kerry – thieving, fraud, tax evading, lies, perjury, jealousy, drunkenness, drug taking and dealing?

Why is Sheehy hung up on sex?

Is he sexually frustrated or in need of the odd viagra?

Has Sheehy ALWAYS been pure, chaste and continent?

His latest outbursts leaves him and his own life eligible for intense scrutiny!

That moment when it takes an excommunicated bishop to say what the actual church teaching is.

11.19 same as the rest of the clergy, no wonder RCC spend so much money training laity giving clergy more time for their boiler houses & swingers events or chasing married women in parishes. Also facilitating self interested volunteers with agendas to use the church as a front to further their own personal vendettas. Fr Sheehy is representative of these 2 faced dictator types.

Not everyone agrees with your interpretations or judgment of others. I admire Fr. Sheehy’s courage but not his manner of expressing those beliefs.

🥱 Fr Sheehy is yet another media obsessed cleric. He’s a serious liability what between perjuring himself in court on behalf of his rapist pals in an attempt to violate the rights of the young female victim, discriminating against one of our most senior Irish politicians and undermining the seriousness of the Irish mother and baby homes scandal and its ongoing impact that the Irish Roman Catholic Church has quite deliberately chosen NOT to adequately redress. Modern Ireland is not Baton Rouge, Sheehy should leave & take his like minded clerics & members with him. They won’t be missed.

How dare Fr Sheehy undermine what happened to Savita in the same way he went into a court of law to undermine the case of a young lady sexually assaulted by his family friend in a nightclub carpark in Kerry. Nasty clerical example of RCC he is.

Dr Varadkar is too busy running the country in these very challenging times to be bothered about a hyper attention seeking cleric & if he runs it as well as the organised meals he showed us in his fridge for his husband & himself, there will no fear of us. 12.57 why should Leo Varadkar or anyone that is committed to human rights & equality for ALL concern themselves with the opinion of cover up merchants such as Fr Sean Sheehy. Unlike other Irish Bishops who join forces with their deviant clerics and members to defame and discredit parishioners with valid complaints at least Bishop Browne has taken the first step in the right direction to part company with this prejudiced bigot for a priest in Kerry.

Like

Pat, I’m amazed that you, after your experiences with bishops, support the cancelling of Fr Sheehy. It is rare enough that a priest says what he believes. That takes authenticity of a kind that you and Fr Sheehy possess.
As he pointed out in his Radio Kerry interview, Fr Sheehy said he was not concerned by the bishop’s words, as “I know myself what I said cannot be disproven by any honest-to-God Catholic, Christian, or [by] Catholic teaching.”
“I think what’s he is doing basically is, he’s actually sacrificing the truth or he’s muzzling the truth in order to appease people because they don’t want to face reality that they need to face before they die, and that’s a given.”
During his radio interview, Fr Sheehy said the bishop “was totally wrong” and that “the poor man mustn’t even know the Catechism. He certainly doesn’t know the Scriptures, to make a statement like that.”
Fr Sheehy said that, instead, Browne was arguing from “his emotional side,” and that the bishop is “sacrificing the truth for the sake of appeasing people who do not want to come face to face with their sinfulness.”

More and more of us do not believe in the contrived Christian narrative and silliness that presumes to be truth. What happens after death and where we go will be nothing like people like Sheehy think it is. If there is a God, then what that God has in mind for us will be way beyond our imaginations. Actually, the reality is that there will be nothing. Death is death. There is nothing as dead as being dead. End. Finish. Move on.

She said that after listening to Sheehy for 10 minutes ranting on about sin, he then came on to having a go at the gays and the transgenders. She said that was it. Enough. “These are the people we love” she said. And she was not having him having a go at them. Good for her. Just shows you, the people of faith like her do not have hard hearts and are not self-righteously judgemental. That’s where the true Church is. Not with the likes of Sheehy.

I wonder, Sunday in and Sunday out, how many other sermons like that of Sheehy are given throughout the country, and don’t get reported on. People just sit and close their ears until it is over. One of the good things about the streaming of Masses and YouTube recordings is that these kinds of events are now more widely viewable and knowable. Priests need to be careful what they are saying and doing on the altar and from the pulpit. There is recorded evidence these days. It can come back and bite them in the arse. No harm in that ! It’s called accountability. Something they have avoided for too long.

The whole point is that is that Fr Sheehy’s homily caused a stir because what he said is so rarely heard in Catholic Churches today. All we normally get are dull, pedestrian thoughts, poorly expressed. When they are not plagiarised from The Furrow or Peiests and People, they are bland affairs, often extemporised on the spot and inanely rehashing the readings we have just heard a minute before. The message is just “God loves everyone, be kind”.
In a way that sums up the whole law and the prophets, as Ledwith used to say, but if that is all we say and that is the extent of the acceptable preaching range, why bother with the vast expensive of years of seminary training and the ludicrous postgraduate study done by MIAs?
Might as well get a layperson to preach, or have a six-month seminary course, for all the learning evident in Irish homilies.

In a recent document titled ‘You will be my Witnesses,’ Bishop Egan complains that the average weekly donation of parishoners is £2.60. That’s less than ‘the cost of a cappuccino.’

In the Daily Star someone commented that the Bishop shouldn’t complain during a cost of living crisis.

Priests should get secular jobs and live in the real world. Many priests, including Bishop Pat, are self sufficient.

Why give money?
– to train unsuitable seminarians like JP Lyttle
– to pay off abuse victims
– to heat the Bishop’s House while the cathedral heating is firmly switched off
– to provide priests with holidays to World Youth Day, Rome, Lourdes. They get away more than most people
– to employ Diocesan lay advisors

Don’t forget- the pennies of the poor built Portsmouth Cathedral. Funding built the rood, the marble baldacchino, the altar rails, the marble high Altar. All of it was smashed up at Vat II.

With Egan he’s lucky to get £2

Interesting post and a subject dear to my heart:

A quick glimpse at Portsmouths accounts on the Charity Commission website would be revealing and exposing!

What was their Sunday Mass attendance pre Covid?

What is it post Covid?

What is their turnover? Deficit? Surplus? Reserve?

Bishops and the clerical caste are shite at fundraising and haven’t a clue.

I’m a grandparent and I have inculcated my children and in turn their children with the view that the child abuse scandal and it’s cover up plus a predominantly homosexual priesthood means their residue and disposable income should under any circumstancebe given to the RCC.

Response to 12.15pm;
‘In our Diocese in 1960, some 70,000

the covid-pandemic, this had halved
to 32,000, and the most recent Mass

Is it any wonder when his Lordship locked down the churches? Why would people return? Mass obviously cannot be that important. In fact the way Egan celebrates his working relationship with the CofE Bishop of Portsmouth, why even be Catholic?
‘Our

I do not think Vatican II is to blame. In Portsmouth Diocese the SSPX Portsmouth chapel had to close due to dwindling numbers. So did the Mass centre in nearby Oxford.
The LMS Winchester monthly Mass has ceased.
The SSPX school chapel in Burghclere gets about 100 on Sunday and the same for the Reading FSSP.
Despite being vocal on social media, the traddies do not make up vast congregations. They are hardly revitalising the Church.

Even to hold these beliefs sincerely, did he really think he was proposing them effectively to his listeners. Scolding and giving out is rarely if ever a constructive manner of communication. Perhaps he has never heard of the concept of captatio benevolentiae? It’s unlikely it would have made too much difference but it would have appeared as more of an effort rather than an instance of venting frustration which was the distinct impression I had.

Almost every media outlet – bereft and devoid of any understanding of Catholic moral teachings – jumped on him, many of whom should look more honestly at themselves. However, I also think that Fr. The various shady or depraved clerics in ministry are irrelevant while a retired priest given a homily for a diocesan pilgrimage is the only matter. The priest is not saying thing heretical. I wonder a little in the sense of ‘reading the room’ which includes media and a rather large cohort who maybe darken the door of a church for maybe weddings and baptisms, but are agnostic, sometimes even atheists, but the bride wants a church venue for her mammy and granny and aunts.
