MALACHY OF ARMAGH AND BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX.

MALACHY
BERNARD

Malachy of Armagh is an 11th-century Irish saint who died in the arms of his more famous soulmate, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. Their monastic community honored the male couple as “two stars of such surpassing brightness” and a “twofold treasure.” Bernard showered Malachy with kisses during his lifetime and they are buried together, wearing each other’s clothes. Malachy’s feast day is Nov. 3.

Sergius and Bacchus: Paired male saints loved each other in ancient Roman army

PAT SAYS

The Catholic Church in its history has been much more accepting of same sex love than you would imagine – given the hullabaloo in recent days over the homily of the Kerry priest, Sean Sheehy.

SHEEHY

Same sex relationships were common in ancient time both in Greece and Rome.

In the history of the Church, at various times, same sex blessings existed

It seems to me that the Christian churches have a lot of rethinking to do on this topic.

UKRAINIAN REFUGEES

Early in the year I let readers know that I had registered as a person willing to sponsor Ukranian refugees in my home.

Many more were making their way to the Republic of Ireland as the government there was issuing visas for refugees much more quickly than in the UK / N. Ireland.

After a long wait, this week, I have been asked to sponsor a specific and identified Ukranian family and I have agreed.

We are now going through the important preliminary steps and hopefully soon the sponsorship will be in place.

Leo Veradkar and Heather Humphries both said they’d host refugees and now they’ve changed their minds. Martin McGuinness also made a similar empty promise about Syrians. Pat, I admire you for now accepting Ukranians into your home. Here in the South our government seems overwhelmed by the challenge of placing families in suitable accomodation. I hope all works out accordingly for you. I wish I had the spirit of heart to ho6se some Ukranians. It may happen as yet but for now I am financially supporting the parents (mothers) of pupils in our primary school who require tuition for learning English and extra time after school. I have sponsored 6 families to pay for all fees for extra lessons, for books and clothing. Also, our parish has fundraised to support families being housed by parishioners. There are many callers at my door frequently looking for help. Some look for a €10, some 20, others €50. Some won’t take food vouchers which I always have. But familues who have welcomed strangers in to their homes are kind.I trust you’ll receive the promised government subsidy. Whats specific about your guests? Interestingly do you have to sign documents re: no religious indoctrination or is that a free decision? Presumably there are the issues of Garda Vetting, your background, any past issues…or have you escaped this intrusion? Ìf there are children or vulnerable adults would you introduce them to your “adult blog? The reason I ask is because much of the content is of an adult nature and motivations can be easily misconstrued. God bless your time with the Ukranians. I guess you’ll have to a is a by confidientality clauses. Good luck with this project. Ed will cook nice breakfasts and Pat, you can do the lamb dish…and was up.

Pat, you will get more refugees in NI & UK as Republic of Ireland has now run out of accommodation. Irish hotels are giving refugees notice to leave, in recent weeks new arrivals have had to sleep at the airport. Government has changed the rules & refugees will no longer be fed all meals free of charge in hotels in addition to receiving full social welfare payments as has been the case to date. Other benefits like free postage of parcels to Ukraine may be axed. Dormitory accommodation may become the norm according to some sources.

Just been watching some YouTube info on discoveries by NASA’s James Webb space telescope. Distant galaxies millions light years away , their stars and huge numbers of planets become visible. Millions upon billions! The potential for life to exist now, or in the past in such huge numbers is incredible.
Last week I viewed TV prog on possibility of other life forms existing now, or in the past, in our own or other galaxies, and where our present known earth bound existence fits in the overall cosmos scenario.
Then, I consider RCC teachings in particular, and other Christian beliefs, other non Christian religious deity based beliefs, and the whole farrago of our earthly existence simply as a precursor to some eternal “afterlife”, with the “heat or halo” of eternal pain or pleasure dependent on, …?…? …? [ eg. Did I manage to get a ” good confession ” in before the final curtain?🤔 😇]
I have to say that the more I consider the outlandish claims of religion the more I despise its parasitical self serving appropriation of evolutionary derived human fellowship aspirations. Religion serves to funnel socially supportive instincts for the benefit of religious parasites of all shades.

On checking the blog tonight it’s interesting, and revealing, to not no comments opposing/refuting my views on religion and it’s avaricious proprietors. Of course there is the customary ad hominem derision.
So I have to wonder if there is no sensible contrary evidential comment available? In consequence, do commentators just “keep their heads down” and concentrate on really important matters like which cleric does what with his apparantly God given “bits & bobs.”

Another homophobic comment. +Pat after the uproar in Kerry you should really refuse to allow any comments that imply homophobia. Society has surely moved on. Why do we speak of same sex attraction / relationships as if it’s a stick to beat someone with. Terrible taste. Sends out the wrong message for a blog designed of this nature. Your partner and you taking a refugee highlights the best of a same sex couple. And then we have comments like this. The message must be clear- same sex attraction should not be used as an insult. Ever. Even against clergy. Counter productive.

Like

It’s because the clerics who comment here hate themselves, hate their own sexuality and particularly hate anyone who either will admit to having sex at all or isn’t deceitful about sex.
If this sounds utterly fucked, that’s how these freaks end up ministering in a denomination which hates gays, women (except mothers who haven’t had sex), married people and anyone who doesn’t think their atrocious record of child rape is just fine.

Like

I think what + Pat is pointing out through this blog is the duplicity and hypocrisy of a Catholic Church that roundly condemns as sinful, both in being and in action, homosexuality (as we have seen in spades in the recent Sheehy episode) and the behaviour of many Roman Catholic clergy. It is a straightforward contradiction, and he is simply pointing it out. The RC Church needs to get its story straight. Either homosexual / same sex relationships in all guises are fine, or they are sinful. If the latter, then its clergy need to abide by that teaching (which they are patently not doing – viz McAleer, Purcell, Rory, JP Lyttle, and many others). If the former, then they need to change their official teaching to reflect that rather than leaving it to a bishop in Kerry to go out on a limb and tangentially condemn such teaching, in opposition to what is found in black and white in the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. I think + Pat is simply asking for clarity and integrity in these matter. Evidently, there is not that at present, and it is fair to point it out and to throw a focus on the teaching, its implementation, and the behaviour, lifestyles and honesty or lack of it of the people who are either explicitly from the pulpit or implicitly by virtue of their priesthood disseminating this teaching. Alles klar ?!

Many women and men of Jones’s generation are sexuslly active since early to mid teens. Finding out whether they can live a celibate lifestyle is one of the purposes of the seminary.
Sheehy, on the other hand is in his 80’s. He dhould have gained some modicum of wisdom after 60 years of clerical life.
His summary of his conception of the teaching of yhe church is a travesty of church doctrine.

But, it’s nice that they have someone with whom they can relax, isn’t it ? Does Father Sheehy have some such arrangements as well ?!

Hat tip and respect to you + Pat for your generosity to the refugees you will be taking in. I wonder if your brother bishops in Ireland would think about sharing their houses with those in need ? Probably not, come to think of it. We already know where their interests lie, and mostly it has to do with their own convenience and comfort, all masked by an air of being so busy and important that they couldn’t possibly find the time and means to help those in the most need. It would be really interesting if one of them did become a host, and it would be a great example of service and simplicity of life. Go on, dear Bishops, and take a leaf from + Pat’s book ! A a few weeks after the final IICSA report, I still fail to find anything from any Catholic bishop in England and Wales of standing in response. Nothing on the Westminster site, nothing on the Birmingham site, nothing from Nichols or Longley about anything. It’s almost as if it has not happened. They don’t seem to have taken any notice. Just something on the E&W bishops’ conference site tucked away, a innocuous statement from the Catholic Council for IICSA. This really is scandalous. One of the biggest and most significant failings in the history of the Catholic Church, and its current day leaders have nothing to say about it ! I suspect that it is not a cockup, but a cynical decision by them just to let it wash over and hope it will all be forgotten about. We are truly led by donkeys and conniving cowards.

The Catholic Church was not the only ones mentioned in the IICSA.
I am sure you are also giving as much attention to them as you are to us.
Bishop Pat will continue to give you the soap box space you need on his blog as you keep mentioning it.
The Catholic Church has given an unreserved Apology and is working with the victims on individual basis and not in a media circus or on a soap box.
The Kings Counsel work with the Church on serious issues and advice will be taken from them but do you know many KC and other Solicitor give up their time free to sevre on Diocesan Safeguarding teams.
Everyday Bishops and Safeguarding teams strive to do things better but as a massive organisation we sadly get things wrong but strive to correct them.
I guess but likely mistaken that YOU have offered to assist in Safeguarding in parishes or at diocesan level likely not and furthermore have you even contacted a cardinal, Archbishop or Bishop to register your disgust again I think not.

https://www.thetablet.co.uk/news/16043/-we-are-here-to-stay-questions-to-the-director-of-the-cssa
But in another interview with the Tablet he goes further. He notes the importance of Canon Law which – if it defies the Law of the Land – is a criminal offence. That’s what de facto he is supporting even though IICSA have recommended the confessional be unsealed and it is the law in Australia. He didn’t know about the law in Oz! Here’s how I covered it in a tweet
When @nazirafzal talks about sanctity of ‘canon law’ in context of the confessional he is de facto placing it over Law of the Land. He has previous – obliquely defending categories of paedophilia and showing that organisations like the Church are not as bad abusers as families.
I would refer you to a past post where he actually comes out with a tweet in support of those who would mitigate the crimes of paedophiles by categorising them in different age groups. A classic device by the Catholic Church and also by paedophiles themselves.
It gets worse!

I have read a lot of Q Spirit articles and have enjoyed many for their entertainment value and their ability to encourage me to think outside the box however, much of it is highly speculative at best and suspect, nonsense at worst.
There is something deeply sad about LGB men and women taking even the slightest hint of a same sex relationship in scriptures or in the lives of Saints and consequently spinning a whole alternative queer narrative and history, especially narratives and histories that cannot stand up to scrutiny.
As a younger gay man I would have fallen on this type of nonsense with relish. When I was growing up I wanted to see gay men everywhere, if only to prove I wasn’t abnormal.
As an older man, I no longer need to seek validation in finding ‘gayness’ in people or narratives that bend histories out of shape just to satisfy an LBGTQ+ agenda. That type of thinking is as dangerous as the RCC’s teaching on same sex relationships.
