CLOSE DOWN RELIGIOUS ORDERS.

https://www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/arid-41006525.html

QUOTED FROM FERGUS FINLAY

1. “Listening to it all, something finally dawned on me. It has taken me the whole of my adult life to recognise it, and that makes me even slower than I thought I was. But I see it now: Why do we still allow these religious orders to exist? They are nothing more than vehicles for corruption and abuse, and they need to be shut down”.

2. “They should not be allowed to incorporate themselves as companies or as charities. They should not be allowed to be heard in the courts. They should never be allowed to present to the Houses of the Oireachtas or to lobby the government. They should under no circumstances be allowed to collect money from the public“.

3. “They should not be allowed to own property in the name of the order, nor to buy and sell property. They should never, under any circumstances, be allowed to run any entity — school, hospital, or any other institution — that is funded in whole or in part by the State“.

4. If there was any real honour or meaning to the PR apologies of the religious orders, they’d be winding up their affairs and handing their assets over to the State. Until they do that, their apologies are all spin and bluster.

PAT SAYS

This is one of the finest and most honest articles written by an Irish journalist / activist about the RCC and its evil existence and activities.

The RCC is part of an “axis of evil”. It is a rogue statelet. It has proven itself to be an enemy of the people and children of Ireland.

Finlay is correct:

1. The Irish RCC, its bishops and dioceses and its religious orders are vehicles of corruption and abuse.

2. They should not be allowed incorporate themselves as companies or charities.

3. They should not be allowed to be heard in the courts – except as defendents.

4. They should not be accepted as people entitled to make presentations to governments or lobby governments.

5. They should not be allowed to publicly fundraise.

6. They should not be allowed to run schools, hospitals or other institutions that are funded by the State.

And Finlay is right in concluding that if they had any honour they should wind up their operations and give the money to the state.

The 26 counties has rid itself if their British Colonists.

Now it should rid itself of its Roman Colonists – who have done more harm to Ireland than any other power that has attacked it in history.

FERGUS FINLAY

FERGUS FINLAY

Fergus Finlay (born 1 June 1950) was the Chief Executive of the charity Barnardos in Ireland until 3 October 2018. He was a senior member of the Irish Labour Party and is also a weekly columnist with the Irish Examiner and the author of a number of books.

Having worked in government press secretarial roles in the 1980s, Finlay served as an adviser to Dick Spring from 1983 to 1997. During this time he was involved in campaigns that led to the election of Mary Robinson as president, a large increase in the number of Labour TDs in 1992 and the dropping of the constitutional ban on divorce in 1996.

He resigned from Labour in 1997, becoming a director of Wilson Hartnell Public Relations, heading the company’s public affairs unit. In 1997 he also started presenting the Network 2 show Later On 2 with Frank Dunlop former Press Secretary of Fianna Fáil. In April 2010 the Sunday Business Post said he is “one of the great backroom operators of Irish political history, a strategist, tactician, and media briefer par excellence.”

Finlay is also credited with helping to organise the visit of the Special Olympics to Ireland.

In 2009, Finlay was listed in 59th place on a list of “most influential people” in Irish society put together for Village magazine.

On 9 September 2010, Finlay announced that he would seek the Labour Party nomination to contest the 2011 Irish presidential election to elect the successor to Mary McAleese as President of Ireland. Michael D. Higgins eventually won that nomination. Finlay congratulated Higgins on his victory, saying he was “looking forward” to Higgins’ Presidency.

Finlay was awarded an honorary degree by NUI Galway in 2019.

Fergus Finlay can bash the Catholic Church all he likes but he needs to aim some blows at the Protestant churches.
Fergus Finlay said: “The Catholic Church ruled us — formed our attitudes, told us what we were allowed to think.”
Not Derek Leinster in the Bethany Home, sent to a dysfunctional family that abandoned him, it didn’t; not the children farmed out as labour from the age of five by the Nursery Rescue Society, it didn’t; not the children emotionally, sexually, and physically abused in Smyly’s Homes, it didn’t; not the Westbank Orphanage children transformed into professional orphans and paraded around church and Orange halls in Northern Ireland, it didn’t.
The misogyny and abuse Finlay writes about were not the preserve of the Catholic Church. Protestants got their fair share, too, in equivalent institutions, like the ones mentioned above.
It was a level sectarian playing field, with both Protestant and Catholic infants dying alone, separate and “unwanted”.
Dr Winslow Sterling Berry, the then government’s deputy chief medical advisor, visited Bethany Home three times in 1939.
State inspectors and the Rathdown Board of Guardians had blamed Bethany Home for death and neglect.
Sterling Berry, who was the son of the Anglican bishop of Killaloe, merely said: “It is well recognised that a large number of illegitimate children are delicate and marasmic from their birth.”
Sterling Berry said that the issue would resolve itself if Bethany Home stopped admitting, and trying to convert, Catholic mothers. Bethany stopped and the death rate shot up again, but no one paid any attention.
Underneath the “level playing field” were the bodies of children, martyrs to misogyny and Christian (not merely Catholic) hypocrisy.
Finlay can bash the Catholic Church all he likes, but he should be ecumenical and aim some blows at Protestant churches as well.

Mr. Finlay is a shit-stirring opportunist. His jaundiced views are of no surprise whatever, he has been a consistent antt-church batterer through many years.
His views constitute hate speech and merit an investigation by Gardai. In a society where a teacher can be imprisoned for refusing to cal a boy a girl, it seems that one can defame and belittle religious groups with impunity. Mr. Finlay has no hesitation in attacking every religious congregartion with this venemous hate speech which is reprehensible.
He has been a leading proponent of the liberal agenda, and a vociferous supporter of the barbaric murder of innocents in the womb. It must give him a great sense of Liberal Pride to know that ove 15,000 Irish lives have been ended in Ireland since the madness was unleashed – or to put is in a more sanitised form – since the repeal of the 8th. I can imagine his ilk raising a glass of bubbly each year as the statistics rise.
His OTT attack on religous congregations will be recognised for what it is by the countless hundreds of thousand of Irish families whose members served selflessly and without blemish among their ranks. Rotten apples don’t just appear in religous congregations – they are also in evidence among scribblers for the papers.

I see a lot of anger there. Unfortunately the constitution still affords a great deal of space to Religious bodies to self-regulate. But certainly 3 things need to happen immediately,
1. No entity (religious of other wise) should be allowed organise themselves as both a company and a charity. This is disingenuous.
2. There should be compulsory purchase of real estate assets from religious bodies who need to pay up their abuse bills – and the compulsory price discounted by monies due.
3. Religious bodies should sit on par with all other lobby groups, with church ranks being unrecognised by the government. I.e. dermot farrell should be treated equal to the ordinary PAYE man struggling on the street.

Never going to happen, HG.

The Free State/ROI was founded as a deeply sectarian, anti-British, confessional state, and constitutionally it remains so. Under Mary Lou McDonald as Taoiseach, it will become an IRA terrorism-apologising state as well.

Forget about the Vatican’s alledgedly being ‘a rogue state’: the ROI under an IRA-Sinn Fein prime minister will disgrace itself on the political international stage, and will eclipse everything the Vatican did to blacken its name down the centuries of child sexual abuse and its cover up by priests, bishops, cardinals, and even by sainted popes.

The people of the ROI are arch-hypocrites. They were complicit in the sexual, emotional, and physical abuse of their own children, literally for decades, under the Catholic Church. Now these ‘ooh ah up the ‘RA’ self-serving fools are going to elect as prime minister a woman they absolutely know is an unapologetic apologist for IRA barbarism.

The ROI will never change, because its people cannot, and don’t want to, free themselves from its sordid history of murder. If you can praise mass murderers like the IRA (and even elect one of its apologists as prime minister), then you don’t give a damn about anyone, even the welfare of your own children.

The ROI gets the politicians and outcomes it thoroughly deserves.

Those complicit in cover up should also be held to account. Bishops and their associates around the world have been consistently refeathering the nests of abusive clergy providing them with new opportunities to abuse unsuspecting and vulnerable victims in new locations. The role that those laity and clergy who spread false rumours to suit church narrative, proactively intrude into personal lives of victims and their families to facilitate harrassment and intimidation to prevent truths being revealed on church matters should not be underestimated and should be accountable.

The fallout of institutional abuse, corruption, and criminality, is a direct consequence of the institutional preferential option for the priest. The clericalist mentality nurtured in seminary settings emphasized difference and the distinct role of the cleric as opposed to the laity. The Church was considered an unequal society by divine institution of Christ. The institution determined the distribution of power between the two groups, clerics, and lay persons. Laity lacked a participation in jurisdiction and especially orders; they are considered subjects. This represented a form of religious ideology, a mentality, emphasizing clerical power, status, and the reputation of the institution. It’s therefore, not surprising, in the interests of maintaining power, the institutional church put its reputation before the interests of child abuse survivors, with senior leaders complicit in significant failures outlined by the recent the Independent Inquiry Child Sexual Abuse. (IICSA).

Not to be allow to incorporate, not to be heard in court, not to buy or sell property….are we straying into the realms of the nuremberg laws perhaps? Religious Orders will close themselves down. Especially in Ireland and in the UK. Most members are over 65, and those that are younger are invariably imports from the 3rd World brought in to prop things up, but that is not sustainable or desirable. Religious Orders should die gracefully, recognising that their mission/ charism / time has been and gone. If they have any faith they will rely on the Holy Spirit to bring about new things rather than trying so sadly to sustain themselves as they are. It’s often pathetic to watch how desperate they are to carry on and be relevant. They need to accept their demise with faith and grace, and go quietly. There is going to be a problem with their huge assets and properties. To whom will they go ? The foreign priests probably look forward to the day when they have control, but their past record is not good. So care should be taken to ensure that these assets are not snaffled and disappeared by a clerical kleptocracy. There is an argument for some State interest and involvement here, in the sense that they might ensure that the assets are put to some good for the community – who paid for them originally – who should benefit from these assets. I reckon there are a lot of interested parities looking with wide eyes at what is going to become available in a decade or two ahead. Good forward planning should be an urgent project.

11.59: Many religious orders are acknowledging that times are changing for them. Many Orders no longer recruit for candidates but are putting financial resources into their already existing services – schools and education, health provision, social justice initiatives, traveller community projects and their new members and establishments in their mission territories. All of this is very laudable. Many retired teaching and health care religious sisters are, in retirement, working in parishes, prisons, hospitals and with alcohol and addiction recovery projects; many too are visiting the sick and housebound in parishes. The RELIGIOUS SISTERS of our country have, substantially and largely, contributed hugely to our society and communities, despite the brutal, ignorant bigotry of Fergus Finlay. As you say, in time there will be lots of property and assets available but in the meantime let’s not forget that many, many religious sisters are still very active in working and ministry, even into very old age and are still financially supporting their schools and various ministries. Thank God for the witness of their lives. And, these orders have very elderly members to care for. Only bigots (Finlay & co.) would begrudge them this.

While we rightly uncover all abuses in Catholic schools and institutions, we must never forget the thousands who are yet unable to speak abiut their abuse in schools and other settings..Today a woman came to me in the church and sp8je with me abiut the horrible abuse she experienced almost 40 years ago at the hands of her father and her husband subsequently. The scars and memories are brought to thecsyrface by the experiences of men who were abused in Spiritan schools. Some of her family haven’t spoken to her for years as they blame her for the break up of their family. She’s now a very broken woman in her late 60’s..Abuse is so insidious, vile and destructive. We must find a way to listen to all people who have silently carried their abuse experiences. Glib cynical comments shame further and minimise those who have been abused.

A cascade of ABUSE cases will now emerge from many, many schools, boys boarding schools especially. All abuse cases must be accepted and believed. The focus will, rightly, be on the religious run schools. The religious teachers will be named. That’s correct too. Sexual abuse is a criminal act and therefore all perpetrators must be named and brought to justice. Thank God that for my time in boarding school for 4 years, I never experienced or witnessed any such behaviour and have never heard of any allegations made against the brothers since the early 70’s. (That isn’t to say no abuse occured but I’ve never heard of any such accusation). What are we going to do in relation to the horrible lay teachers who also physically, sexually and mentally abused children and teenagers? Before i went to boarding school, I experienced some awful physical abuse from lay teachers in a vocational school, even though I was a good student always. I remember a lady teacher who delighted in screaming us down if we got a little Irish wrong or chatted in class and she would “sadistically” march us to the principal’s office – he too was scarily harsh – where we got 6 of the best across our hands. Horrible humiliation. Another lay teacher in primary school loved beating us with a hard knotted branch…It was acceptable in the 50’s/60’s. Abuse of any kind in any era is criminal. I know many peoole, who, like myself, experienced harsh, embarrassing physical and mental abuse while in lay run schools. I can look back now and realise that abuse of any kind seemed endemic, hidden and much of it endured in silence. When will pupils who went to “lay” run schools and who were abused speak out about their experiences? Are we who experienced abuse in such schools made feel the toys abuse is less serious? Look what happened to Louise O Keefe, abused by a lay teacher, when she brought her case to court. The Department of Education fought her all the way, attempting to lay blame on her and the School Board. In our country we still have a long road to travel before we accept responsibility for all abuses committed against children, teenagers and vulnerable people in state and church run schools and institutions. No person’s abuse, irrespective of when and where it happened, should ever be minimised or denied. The memory of our bodily integrity being brutalized and destroyed by an abuser never leaves. It is a deeply ingrained memory.

On November 3, 2022, a 15-year-old boy met Fr. Yannick Poligné in Paris, whom he met on Grindr. After having had a few drinks in a bar, he follows the latter to his hotel room, where he encourages the teenager to take drugs. However, he allegedly spiked the boy to alter his discernment and self-control.
The priest and the boy then had unprotected sex; the boy was violently sick as a result of taking narcotics, the young man woke up shortly after midnight and alerted friends, who geolocated him using his phone and informed the emergency service, who came to rescue him and transport him to hospital
Yannick Poligné was arrested on the night of November 6. He was indicted on counts of aggravated rape by the administration of a harmful substance without the victim’s knowledge, provocation of a minor to use narcotics, endangering the life of others and illicit use of drugs, and remanded in custody.
The priest told Pierre d’Ornellas, his bishop, and his parishioners that he had to go to Paris regularly for cancer treatment. In reality, he was HIV-positive, on triple therapy, and received botox injections to mask the effects of the treatment on his facial features. He regularly used his trips to Paris to have drug-fueled sexual relations with men in hotels.

And he will say, ‘Whoever you try to distract from abusive clergy, you rape me too. For I was traumatized by you were too busy talking about social workers and how unfair it was’.

Mario’s Vespers

Hi Pat
That’s me newly in from the Vespers for our old retired Archbishop Mario Conti.
Although the cathedral here is quite small the attendance was very sparse and disappointing. There were many, many empty seats. The Chapter processed in and there were a few clergy in the pews and Andy McKenzie shepherding Bunty. Other than that a few dozen others, mainly Italian I’d say, made up the congregation with the usual holy water hens.
There was not much evidence of the Daisy Chain mincing around or turning out to support “Auntie Mary’ their Protector and Patron.
Thankfully the singing was first class. I think it was the St Mungo Choir.
Had they not been there the whole thing would have been a wash out.
My daughter said that she watched it on live stream and said it was very poor quality with the picture and sound freezing every few seconds.
Oh how that place does so miss Peter Smith for big occasions.
