There is a massive difference, morally, between sexual intimacy in the context of a love filled committed relationship and what people have come to call “recreational sex”.
As Andrew Lloyd Webber has written: LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING.
And, as a recent German bishop very wisely pointed out – sexual intimacy based on attraction and love making is not an abberation.
Bible thumpers and right wing RC dogmatists, whether they like it or not, are from the Fred Flintstone School of Theology and as Father Faber once pointed out – magnify God’s strictness with a zeal He (God) would not own.
The Bible is many things but it is NOT a manual of science, medicine and psychology.
The Bible is the Word of God written in the words of men.
A golden thread of the TRUTH AND WISDOM OF GOD runs right through the Bible.
It is a book of poetry, parable and myth – in the true deeper meaning of the word myth.
It is NOT to be read or taken literally.
It is a dangerous book in the hands of literalists, bigots, fanatics and religious nuts.
And may God Himself preserve us from foaming mouthed Protestants and rabid Roman Catholics.
