STILL TONE DEAF: U.S. Bishops Elect McCarrick’s Former Secretary and Roommate as Chairman of the Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People

From complicitclergy.com

KNESTOUT and MC CARRICK

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced they elected Bishop Barry C. Knestout of Richmond as chairman-elect of the Committee on the Protection of Children and Young People in a 127-114 vote. Congratulations guys on being completely tone deaf!

Here are a few facts about Bishop Knestout:

PAT SAYS

No Roman Catholic priest or bishop should ever be allowed to serve on any committee to protect children or young people.

And MOST CERTAINLY no RCC priest or bishop should ever be appointed chairman of such a committee.

The Catholic priesthood and episcopate is now regarded, globally, as a profession that poses a danger to children and young people.

TED MC CARRICK is the most infamous and disgraced Catholic clerical paedophile and ephebophile in the world.

Any male who has been friends with him is, sadly, suspect.

Any cleric who has been favoured, recommended or promoted by Mc Carrick should not be taken into a seminary or ordained either a priest or a bishop.

The appointment of Knestout to this position is a stark and deliberate slap in the faxe to all victims.

His appointment is also the US bishops giving the TWO FINGER SALUTE to their critics.

RCC bishops and clerics simply don’t give a shit about anyone or anything.

They think that they belong to the most important organisation that ever existed and they think that they have God in their cassock pockets.

Would you agree Pat, that Catholic Maintained schools in Ireland and globally, are the last power-hold of the Catholic Church?

Like

I’m saying this again because Leon posted a spectacularly stupid fake fact on yesterday’s blog and the RCs want to forget the truth.
He said only a small proportion of bishops had brought the church into disrepute.
The fact: From the 1960s onwards 100% of Roman Catholic bishops dealt with clerical abuse in house, never reported to police and shuffled priests round so they could abuse again.
ALL the bishops are the reason people now look at priests and assume they are child molesters.
Ignoring this plain fact is minimizing abuse and this is the kind of thing which lets us know it isn’t over, like the subject of this post.

The default position when meeting a cleric should be to assume he will either carry out some depraved act which is contrary to the life he professes and probably illegal, or will happily not see this and cover it up.

West Virginia’s former Roman Catholic Bishop Michael Bransfield gave gifts of money he did not own, to;
Cardinal K.Farrell.
Cardinal Wuerl.
Cardinal Burke.
Cardinal Law.
Archbishop Lori.
Archbishop Peter Wells.
The “whiter than white” (LOLS) Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, who would have you believe butter wouldn’t melt, HOWEVER MONEY TALKS.
and more including priests.
All received and accepted Bransfield’s gifts, but, when the source of the gifts materialised, the “gifts” were returned, no doubt from the redfaced Bishop recipients.

The obvious way to a Roman Catholic prelates heart is through, giving him large donations of money.

The gift, one of two Bransfield sent to Cardinal Kevin Farrell, was an extraordinary gesture from a religious leader in West Virginia state plagued by poverty. Even more unusual was how Bransfield obtained the cash he gave away.
The funds apparently derived from a wealthy New York heiress who left a large tract of land in West Texas to the diocese in the late 1800s. Decades later, oil was discovered on the land, leading to diocesan income from mineral rights that would average nearly $15 million a year.

The Washington Post reported June 7, 2019, that Irish Roman Catholic Cardinal Kevin Farrell, prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life, will return $29,000 to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, after that amount was given to him by Bransfield.

Also consecrated by Theodore McCarrick, Bishop Martin Holley was removed by Pope Francis from the Diocese of Memphis, Tennessee, Holley was in Washington prior to this. Kevin Farrell had been in Washington, Maryland, Bethesda and surrounding areas in previous years. In 2009 a seminarian had complained in a blog that Holley had made sexual advances to him. In 2018 that allegation was officially delivered to the apostolic nuncio in the US. It is alleged that Holley refused to resign as Bishop. On 24 October 2018 – the Vatican announced that Pope Francis had removed Holley as Bishop of Memphis citing financial mismanagement. In retaliation, Holley claimed to the Catholic News Agency that he had been the victim of a vendetta against him by Cardinal Donald Wuerl and Archbishop Christophe Pierre. Pope Francis appointed Bishop David Talley to replace Holley in March 2019.

The Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano claimed to have a dossier on McCarricks pal, Kevin Farrell part of a 300 page dossier on financial corruption, gay influences and blackmail within the Vatican. The newspaper asserted that the dossier came from the investigation conducted by Cardinals Julian Herrabz, Salvatore De Giorgi and Josef Tomkins in response to the 2012 Vatican Leaks Scandal. The Irish Office of Public works confirmed that 152,000 attended the World Meeting of Families although the organisers claimed to have sold over 500,000 tickets.

11:10 McCarrick is a very efficient fundraiser for the Roman Catholic Church. It is widely accepted that explains his influence and ability to have complainants appeased and silenced on the many allegations made by priests, seminarians and a woman over the years. The 127 – 114 vote doesn’t sound like a resounding approval. There is a large minority of US bishops who did not vote for him. Good for them. Similarly, the vote for Broglio wasn’t anyway near unanimous, which is more often the case for these things. So, let us take some heart that a sizeable minority of US bishops is on a different page more or less to the right wing, moralistic, culture wars, two fingers, small majority. However, this in itself presents a problem, namely that the US conference of bishops, and the Catholic Church in the USA, is split, riven and disunited, and as a result much diminished. Sadly, it is a mirror image of the political, social and economic divides that exist in the USA. I have lived and worked in the USA and it is not a pretty experience, with people digging themselves in to trenches to fight for and defend extreme positions, and determined to bash the opposition in to surrender and to claim victory. Expect to see more of that in the Catholic Church in the USA, with increasing vitriol and division. The likes of Phonsie of Cork would fit in well, as would that nitwit Sheehy, but by and large our bishops and priests seem to be a bit more centrist. Lazy, comfortable, self-satisfied maybe, and probably too lacking in interest to take up extreme positions, other than the horizontal, but at least we don’t have to put up with divisive culture wars.

9:25: What a confused and revealing comment.
Does “moving on and reforming” depend on just being “left alone?”
The recidivist nature of sex abuse, especially with minors, suggests continuation more likely. Exposure is more likely to curtail it, ……..until the bishop quietly 🤫 moves the abuser elsewhere. And we know how that usually worked out.
Your choice of language also hints at your attitudes.

Your daily reminder that Roman Catholics think everything they do should just be forgiven if they want and never spoken of if they confess. One of the many reasons they’ve never been out of the papers for their crimes.
Luckily anyone sensible knows that humans actually tend to keep repeating the same behaviours, which is precisely why they should be remembered.

@ 9.25: What a nasty name to call anybody! The problem is that SOME may change, but nobody has a crystal ball to know who’s who or how genuine that change may be. Should we wait and see and possibly later discover it was all a sham, meanwhile more get hurt? Who’s to blame then? Prisoners have been released early on parole based on the same reassurance and have gone on to re-offend. Recidivism is alive and well.

Ha ! Move on and reform ? Really ? Clergy do not do that. They go away and do a course or something, come back, just be more careful, but carry on with their antics. The best way and most convincing way to move on and reform is to move out and go do something else and do the moving on and reforming there. That really would be convincing. But, hanging about under the clerical duvet and accessing all the goodies having “moved on and reformed” just does not sound credible. Harsh, I know. But actions speak louder than words.

Consecrated by the highly controversial Theodore McCarrick, Cardinal Kevin Farrell was a chaplain at the University of Monterrey in Mexico. His brother Brian Farrell was appointed secretary of the Pontifical Council for promoting Christian Unity in the Roman Curia in 2002. In 2020, Pope Francis appointed Farrell as President of the Commission for Confidential Matters, a new office also in the Roman Curia. Journalist Michael Sean Winters described Theodore McCarrick as Kevin Farrell’s mentor in the episcopacy. McCarrick had asked the Vatican to appoint Farrell as auxiliary Bishop in Washington. Over the next 6 years, Kevin Farrell shared a 4 bed apartment with Theodore McCarrick and 2 priest secretaries. Farrells coat of arms is derived from that of McCarrick. Farrell was educated at the University of Salamanca in Spain, the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas and holds a Masters in Business Administration from The University of Notre Dame.

Its not only schools but hospitals as well where they have access to.
For instance, Marie Collins was abused in hospital.
Schools is where church have the greatest hold and power over. So many schools where they sit on school management board. Still PP have no expertise in education.
Also another reason for that was money or an asset in church name which was funded by the parishioners.

Yes, not all clerics can be condemned but we are now so contaminated by these scandalous crimes that anyone of us cannot but feel shame, guilt and responsibility. It is so difficult to work in ministry in the present environment with a cascade of abuse horrors still to fall. Every day the microscope widens to reveal untold crimes. ARCHBISHOP SAYS REVULSION OVER SCALE OF CHILD SEX ABUSE IS ‘JUSTIFIED’.
“The anger and revulsion over recent revelations of “horrendous sexual abuse of children” by members of the clergy or religious communities and the “whitewashing of those crimes” is understandable and entirely justified, Archbishop Dermot Farrell has said.”
“Too often those in leadership in dioceses and religious orders failed to safeguard those entrusted to their care, whether through ignorance, misplaced loyalty or a sense of self-preservation,” Archbishop Farrell said.

In yesterday’s Irish Times, 21/11/2022, there was another article on the former Dominican priest, and serial child abuser, Vincent Mercer. He was the one time principal of Newbridge College. In the article the orders leadership expresses ‘sorrow’. What they fail to mention is that Mercer first came to attention as a child abuser in the late 60’s while he was still a student: succesive provincials protected him. He was only returned to the lay state in 2017, and even now lives in an apartment paid for by the Dominican order. It is quite clear the Dominicans cannot tell the truth. A public enquiry is needed into newbridge college.

The ancient and famous example of how Praemonstrian Brendan Smyth was getting psychiatric treatment in the late 60s for his paedophilic tendencies, remains relevant. While this US approach was somewhat better in a way than most, that monster returned to his life of depravity afterwards. Another equally ancient example would be how Fr Paul Shanley generated a decade of abuse reports from a priest (relating to a youth at a Massachusetts shrine to Our Lady), a mother and others, yet in 1971 Card Cushing gives Shanley a ministry to street youth, and his early membership of NAMBLA (from second meeting) was known. The obvious point is that no other paedo can enjoy such lavish and powerful protection. A priest reporting someone protected can look forward to nothing in terms of a career, at best, which is all a bit Mafia like.

Anyhow, apropos of the post, McCarrick boys head dioceses all over the US, and likely beyond, as this arch networker was well travelled.

The Apartment, paid for by the Dominicans, where the convicted child abuser Vincent Mercer resides is presumably not in isolation. Are the vulnerable adults in his vicinity? Are there families with children in his vicinity? Do his neighbours know of his past? When still a member of the order, in between prison sentences, Mercer was housed in the Black Abbey in kilkenny. Despite assurances that he would be supervised he was not. It made the local paper (2009) that he was hanging around the childrens playground in the castle park. He was also known to frequent public toilets. Yet the Dominicans refused to laicise him until they were shamed into it. It is said that in court Vincent would say that his superiors never knew he was a child abuser, in return he got to stay.

EVERYBODY FOUND WAYS NOT TO KNOW WHAT THEY KNEW ON ABUSE
Irish Times [Dublin, Ireland]
November 22, 2022
By Fintan O’Toole
“Decades of shame-filled silence and pent-up torment lie behind the whiplash of delayed reactions to institutionally sanctioned abuse”
“In July 2017, a middle-aged man called Ian Kidd entered the Catholic Church of St Agnes in the sprawling Dublin housing estate of Crumlin.
He carried a can containing €5 worth of diesel.
He walked up to the altar and began pouring the oil on the floor, while shouting at the worshippers to “get out”. He had a cigarette and people feared he was going to set the diesel alight. He didn’t.”
“But there was no explosion, no “scandal in Crumlin”. People were cowed by loyalty, by faith, by sensing that the criminal law did not apply to priests. Everybody just found ways not to know what they knew.
And this is why there is still so much to be revealed. The church had the spiritual power to implicate us all, to infect us with its own strain of subtle evasion.”
