WHO WILL BE THE NEXT INCUMBENT AT “CHATEAU NOEL”.

CHATEAU NOEL – LISBREEN

JOURNALIST HUGH JORDAN’S THOUGHTS

ANTIQUE DESK

A Belfast priests says he saw Noel looking at a £15,000 desk in Ballinderry Antiques and when he went back to the shop a few days later it was gone?

Did it end up in Lisbreen?

Naturally speculation is now rife as to who might succeed Our Noelle at Lisbreen.

COMMENT FROM YESTERDAY”S BLOG

The candidates are divided into two corrals – within the diocese or without the diocese – with from without the diocese the more likely.

The name of Michael Router, the auxiliary in Armagh has been bandied about.

ROUTER IN ALL HIS FINERY

Word among the clergy is that Our Amy and Router are not the best of pals and Amy might like him gone?

Router is part of the Cavan clerical mafia – one of Seanie Brady’s men.

He was a reputation for having a Cavan temper too ?

Then there is talk of Alan McGuckian being transferred from Raphoe?

ALAN MC GUCKIAN

Alan is quite a nice man. At an ACP conference a few years ago he was one of the few priests to speak to me.

He seems to have become very serious and somewhat overburdened since he became a bishop.

It can’t be easy dealing with an RC diocese these times with so many problems and scandals.

Alan will be 70 in February.

Mind you, D&C could get a lot worse than Alan. He is sincere and says his prayers.

Of the recent bishops of D&C Philbin. Daly and Walsh were already bishops.

I think that Donal McKeown who will soon be 73 is too old?

MC KEOWN

Donal was a nice man as a priest. He has changed since becoming a bishop – and not for the better in my view.

A PRIEST OF ANOTHER DIOCESE OR RELIGIOUS ORDER?

That could happen. But D&C is quite a senior diocese?

God save us from Joe McGuinness of Clogher, a long term bishop wannabe

It could be a surprise priest from some other diocese or religious order.

FROM WITHIN D&C

I think a D&C insider is highly unlikely.

Are TIMMY BARTLETT’S and EUGENE O’HAGAN’S HOPES UP?

In fairness, Timmy has proven him to be a very able and popular PP in St. Mary ‘s in Belfast.

In one sense it does not really matter who comes as the job description is – “the management of growing decline”.

In 2022 the most sensible thing to do would be to reduce the ridiculous number of dioceses in Ireland, give none of them an auxiliary and give bishops a small maximum budget for decoration beyond which they have to pay themselves.

11:34 agreed, they live like Kings. This is clearly reflected both in their attitude and in their determined lack of response to the many outstanding and unresolved issues in the Roman Catholic Church. Any victim or sick and elderly person awaiting redress would be absolutely sickened by this shameless display of wealth from an organisation that is constantly seeking contributions from the public and also consistently applying for grants from governments etc. No wonder they have so many administrators.

All speculation Pat. We’ve heard similar names and no one knows. Whoever it is will face huge challenges as, in all Dioceses, we ard experiencing rapid indifference. Since reopening after the pandemic parishes are struggling to regain those who haven’t returned. There is a great need for someone to really be a shepherd among people..out on the streets…being with people. Many of us in parishes are increasingly disillusioned (but I won’t allow hopelessness set in) about the state of affairs in our Dioceses. And many clerics are in their 70’s, some 80’s and feel abandoned and are still expected to fill in the gaps. Those of us a few years behind are fearful of the next few years. We’re doing out utmost but do not witness the fruits of our pastoral efforts in ways that are affirming or fulfilling as we once did. I just fervently pray to God for the graces I need each day…Without this prayer – faltering at times, I’d be more lost. God is real in times of darkness but we seem unable to grasp his love or presence at times with so much negative condemnation about the horror of abuse by so many clerics, a justified condemnation.

Like

11:53 certain Bishops also have lay “friends” making life very uncomfortable for some clergy in parishes who are wholly undeserving of such intimidatory tactics.

If you feel unable to grasp God’s presence at a time of so much justified ‘negative condemnation’ of the horror of clerical abuse I’m honestly mystified why that would be?
Does your comment perhaps not come across correctly to represent your thoughts?
Surely if the condemnation is justified it isn’t negative?
Or perhaps you, completely reasonably, feel dispirited by the sheer amount of clerical misdemeanor? In which case, welcome to reality, where the horror isn’t nassaged with fairy tales.

Bishop Pat, as there are some priests and members of parishes contributing to this blog who are clearly very proud of their work in same, perhaps they might accept an invitation from the blog to highlight that many initiatives they are instigating and executing around the various Diocese on a named basis as surely there is no need for them to hide their light under a bushel by remaining anonymous. They are clearly in a far more privileged position in this respect than the persons from your caseloads that you are kindly supporting because that was entirely lacking and worse from the RC. Who paid for them and to whom they really belong will be lost in the midst of time. As happens so often when clergy move from one parish to another. Maryvale is a problem. Protected, heritage status, but needs huge amounts spending on it, and they don’t have the money. Too big, not the kind of place you really should be training priests, not fit for purpose, and just indulges all the latin, lace, satin and incense inclinations. Newly Elected Roman Catholic Bishops’ Conference President Broglio :
Link Between Homosexuality and Sexual Abuse Crisis ‘Can’t Be Denied’
November 27, 2022 Susan Berry, PhD
The newly elected head of the United States Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops (USCCB) said last week following his election he maintains the assertion that a relationship exists between the crimes of Roman Catholic clergy sex abuse scandal and homosexual Roman Catholic priests ordained in the Roman Catholic Church.
Archbishop Timothy Broglio, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Military Services, said in a press conference he continues to stand by his 2018 statement in which he stated the issue of homosexual Roman Catholic priests is “certainly an aspect of the sexual crisis that can’t be denied,” LifeSiteNews reported.
“That’s certainly not to point a finger at anyone,” the Roman Catholic archbishop added, “but I think it would be naïve to suggest that there’s no relationship between the two.”
In August 2018, military.com reported Captain Antonio Rigonan, a Roman Catholic Air Force chaplain, allegedly stated during Mass that many Roman Catholic priests who sexually abused children were “homosexuals,” a remark that prompted the wife of an officer to be outraged enough to contact Broglio, who oversees all Roman Catholic pastoral ministries and services for over 220 U.S. military installations throughout the world.
Military.com reported the reaction of the officer’s wife to Broglio’s response:
Broglio’s response took her aback, she said. While he said he didn’t agree with Rigonan’s word choices, the Roman Catholic archbishop wrote that he stood by the chaplain’s comments concerning homosexuality, according to a copy of the email reviewed by Military.com.
Broglio’s office confirmed the email’s authenticity.
“There is no question that the crisis of sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests in the USA is directly related to homosexuality,” Broglio wrote. “[Ninety percent] of those sexually abused were boys aged 12 and over. That is no longer pedophilia.

CATHOLIC ORDER FACES 130 CHILD SEX ABUSE ALLEGATIONS
Dublin, Ireland.
The Times/The Sunday Times [London, England]
November 27, 2022
By Patrick O’ Donoghue and Beau Donelly
“The Irish wing of the Saint John of God congregation has so far received 131 allegations of child sexual abuse against members of its order over the past five decades. The Catholic order that ran special schools in Ireland has not made one legal settlement with victims, The Sunday Times can reveal. Thirty-four fresh claims of abuse have been made since 2015, when a safeguarding review of the order was carried out by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland. Pat, I have been thinking a lot today. There were comments on yesterday’s blog about incest and it’s giving me the freedom to feel able to open up and talk about my experience of it for the first time. When i was in my late teens i had a brief sexual encounter with my grandmother and this happened a few times. I know people would feel outraged and certainly it would cause a rift in my family but I’ve kept this bottled up for many years and felt terrible. In my own mind the only thing i was able to do to try and seek forgiveness was be kind to my grandad in the end stages of his life. Can God forgive me? Thank you Pat.

Pat, you are allowing individuals write “incest” stories which is very disturbing. I’m not convinced about the efficacy of some of these stories. Any form of incest is a serious matter and not to be treated lightly, as I feel is happening on your blog. Any person who has engaged in or is a victim of incest should receive adequate counselling. As for Michael at 6.50…He needs to cop on to himself. When his wife finds out, he’ll deservecduvorce papers. His type of incest is morally reprehensible. What will you, a bishop, tell “Michael”? That it’s ok once they’re consenting adults and all he need to is forgive himself? This man is destroying lives. Incest us an egregious crime and betrays the bodily integrity of all who are affected. Recent court cases of incest have been very disturbing and that an “adult” man, Michael, should boast about raping his twin sister is utterly depraved and sickening.

Bishop Noel Treanor will probably be best remembered for spending well over £1M on lavish upgrades to his Belfast residence, ‘Lisbreen’, on Somerton Road, over a third of the cost picked up by a generous Stormont grant in 2014.

Bishop Treanor may also be remembered for his poor relationship with the head of the Catholic church’s own child protection agency, Ian Elliott, to whom the Bishop had to publicly apologise back in 2012.
