ROBERT NUGENT RESPONDS TO BLOG READERS AND COMMENT MAKERS.

PAT SAYS,

I want to ask readers to address Robert’s views – and not to attack his person, his family, or his employment.

When you launch a personal or ” ad hominem” attack on someone, you are being illogical and lose the argument.

###########

I said on the blog the other day that I regard Robert as genuine and sincere. And I do.

I do not have the same approach to faith and Catholicism as Robert has.

Robert is looking at the hierarchy and clergy from the outside.

I’ve been on the inside for 52 years now – longer than Robert has been alive – 6 years in seminary and 46 years as a priest.

First of all, we must distinguish between the Church as the Bride of Christ and People of God – and the man made institution that has evolved under the power of politics, power, greed, and corruption.

The Churh, the mystical body of Christ – has always been pure – as it operates under the will and grace of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

But the problem was that after Jesus left, the Church fell into the hands of men – and men who did not faithfully follow the mind and teaching of Christ, but who began to introduce the ways and thinking of the world.

1. Jesus never intended the leader of the Church at Rome to replace the old Roman emperors.

2. Jesus never intended His Church to become a state with ambassadors to the secular states of the world.

3. Jesus never intended His Church to found a bank to launder money for the world’s rich and corrupt.

4. Jesus never intended His disciples to rape children, women, and men.

5. Jesus never intended His Church leaders to cover up abuse, rape and corruption.

6. Jesus never intended His male disciples (priests) to assault and rape His female disciples (nuns).

People like Robert do not distinguish between these two “churches” and want us to deal with the hierarchy and clergy as if all this abuse and corruption is not there.

Surely, that is willful and sinful blindness?

And it’s not just the case of a few rotten apples in the barrell.

It’s the barrell that is rotten, and that is rotting any good apple 🍎 going into the barrell.

For example , a sincere young man going into Maynooth to serve God, ending up being serially seduced and turned into a homosexual predator.

WHAT TO DO?

1.PRAYER is talking to and listening to God. No third party is needed.

2. SCRIPTURE is the Word of God available for all to read. There are plenty of good commentaries to read to guide you. Then, take it to God in prayer.

3. As Catholics, we believe in sacraments. Find a church and a priest who will celebrate sacraments with you without a lot of legalistic strings attached.

Robert Nugent appears well intentioned but it is simply unrealistic of both himself and of the Roman Catholic Church to imagine that the rest of the world will simply forgive and forget the horrendous atrocities committed and subsequently covered up & combined with the blatantly unrepentant and vengeful demeanour of clerics and their supporters toward victims and survivors of RCC related abuse and wrong doing. From the Vatican downward, victims including abused nuns are ignored, censored, slandered, villified by RCC to protect their interests – the defamation of Dom Benedict Andersen in Ireland being one example of many outstanding cases.

There is no reference to Jesus attending a rabbinic school in the NT.

But, at the age of 12, he did confound the Temple leaders with his wisdom.

Jesus was not a Jew, you can not be a Jew and preach your own version of religion. That would be like endorsing the Protestant religion and acknowledging that it is even that, a religion. When it is not.

Ref 3:03 Pat, share with us some of the biblical commentaries you have. Only one I use and it can be a bit difficult to understand at times is attached to the readings in the Universalis app. Dom Henry Wansborough today seems to take a slightly different view from you Pat, where you state Jesus knows so much because he is God. In todays Gospel commentary HW says there is sufficient evidence in the gospels to indicate Jesus may have be a pupil of John the Baptist who was a rabbi and then went on to be a rabbi himself. And that’s why he has such good command of the scriptures and can apply them to life in Galile in those early days. Makes sense.
For what it’s worth I also think, as he does, that Jesus while on earth was fully man. Not God. Probably heretical. It is the Resurrected Christ who is God, rememberd from the OT as Messiah and developed by the new Christian communities as they reflected on the historial Jesus for 30 – 90 years while developing the gospel narratives.
What happened over the next two hundred odd years is what turned a simple message of love and compassion for each other into a complicated and sometimes unbelievable ‘story’ of compulsory beliefs, which today has little or no meaing. RD’s and our PP’s harping back to the good old days of parish missions, rosary crusades, sodalities and novenas doesn’t cut it anymore.
Last night we were told that the healing miracles evident today in the Church’s ministry to the world is proof Jesus is alive and active. What miracles? Tell that to all who have suffered at the hands of the institutional church and been ostracized by its teachings as evidenced in your blog over the years. The Kingdom of Heaven is here and now. We struggle every day to be transformed human beings, reflecting on scripture for strength and assurance.

‘People like Robert do not distinguish between these two “churches” and want us to deal with the hierarchy and clergy as if all this abuse and corruption is not there.’
I find it contradictory that he is in many ways very critical of the church and yet, like so many, doesn’t reach the obvious conclusion – that it’s not what it claims to be. It’s the scam of branding again – people have bought the lie that ‘the’ church is original and best and of course this keeps them coming back for more crime and deviance.

I have no doubt Robert is sincere and genuine, and deeply desires the renewal of faith/catholicism in Ireland. I think Robert is very naïve in relation to the depth and extent of institutional corruption in the catholic church. Renewal, new springtime, new evangelization, etc, has been talked about for over 50 years. The so-called, ‘Derry earthquake’, illustrated spiritual hunger and not necessarily signs of an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I consider the clerical fraternity the main problem inhibiting spiritual renewal. They are a major stumbling block in the lives of so many-especially victims/survivors of church abuse, directly abused by clerics or through clerical lackies on behalf of, or for the sake of clerics. Some survivors of clerical abuse have maintained their faith in Jesus Christ despite the institutional church. I believe Robert underestimates the rottenness of the institutional underbelly. He got a taste of it last February/March when the Thurles seminary scandal was raised- (Cover up includes those involved continued to be perceived as highly respected members of the cloth/ community regardless of victims family, Truth, or suffering of victims). The clergy are the last people to lead discussions on matters of sexuality, spirituality, or church renewal. They cannot give what most of them have not got! Sometime ago a priest working in America said to me, many of his friends were atheists and most of them are priests. Some survivors could give masterclasses on institutional church abuse. Many of us are experts through experience. Read church teaching on Social Justice. White collared crime, is not just sin-it’s CRIME! Covering up crime is criminal. Did it ever cross people’s minds the Holy Spirit may be using this blog/Bishop Pats ministry as a vehicle to bring about church renewal- by the way, Pat, I thought your ‘Pats says’ comments top class!

Much as I love Dear Patsy, I do not agree that the Holy Ghost is using this blog as a ministry to bring about Church ‘renewal’. There has been too much ‘renewal’ as it is and has it made any difference? NO, it’s time for a Return to Catholicism not the watered down version that has been foisted on us for too long. Now wait for the abuse I’ll get from the usual sources but who cares, a pox on the lot of them.

Fair play to you Robert Nugent. You seem like a genuine, caring and compassionate man of God. You have more guts than all the Catholic Bishops in Ireland put together.
A gentle reminder: You directed your comments to MEN but there are also WOMEN following and commenting on Pat’s blog. The Hebrew word for man is ish, spelled aleph, yod, shin. Remove the yod and you have aleph, shin or esh, meaning fire. The Hebrew word for woman is ishah, spelled aleph, shin heh. Remove the heh and, once again, you have esh, meaning fire. From this we learn that there is a consuming fire in the heart of every man and woman.

Forgive me, this is off today’s topic but I have just taken a look back at yesterday’s blog and would like to refer to a comment made by Anonymously at 10:44am. Quote….”How many on this blog know a priest who is just like Keenan: corpulent, fat, unhealthy, immature, loves dressing up and being the centre of attention.
Imagine the size of his coffin and spare a thought for the poor bastards who have to carry him.
Elsie finds clergy who look like this, don’t they all, repugnant and repulsive, he likes his clergy lean and keen and whole tolerant and indulgent concerning child abuse, clerical sexual predators, my God he has no time for a corpulent priest.
Why are priests so unhealthy?
So many of them in Brum – the fattest diocese in the UK – mind you Nursie is pretty cuddly himself!!
Good for this young man for calling this behaviour out – seen it happen many times a priest rubving inner thighs and thinking nothing of it – a sojourn in prison would do this reprobate a world of good – he’d come our reformed and thinner.”
Whoever is responsible for this outrageous comment should be utterly ashamed of himself/herself. What a despicable being you are. Reverse… and put yourself in this priest’s situation and tell us how YOU would feel if you saw a comment such as this being made on a public blog about YOU. Hang your head in shame after your insults and foul display.

Most comnents so far are reasonably fair and well expressed. Some are difficult to embrace because of their TRUTH about clerical and church isdues. Robert Nugent is, I believe, a sincere, committed man re: faith, Catholicism and in evangelizing men. His Derry gathering recently was amazing and I think Robert has a great ministry in this area. God bless him. While I admire his constant reflections and his efforts to inspire others in renewal of their faith, I do not accept all that he preaches. There is a touch of evangelical zealotry about his pronouncements, with little room for the nuances of people’s lives. He preaches a certainty which most of us find too rigid, yet he is sincere in his beliefs. I don’t think Robert deserves the nasty, ridiculing and ugly criticism he receives. I admire Robert as I admire Pat, though I don’t always agree with him either. They both have different messages, challenges and graces to offer. Robert shouldn’t be cancelled because of his beliefs. He has a generous spirit and, like Our Blessed Lady, is constantly open to God’s spirit. God is doing great things through him. God is also working through Pat, albeit more controversially and working thriugh all who are open to him. I think Robert is well aware of the scandals and the rottenness within the Church: he has spoken about such in many of his videos. I think Pats followers dislike Robert because he is a powerful presence with a prophetic message through his you tube videos. Robert – kerp doing what you’re doing. Pat, keep doing what you’re doing but perhaps you might learn something from Robert if you truly listen to him. You both are challenging us in different ways and that’s good for all of us.

Robert acknowledged on this blog, (see 17th February),’facing the evil in some Irish clergy requires a lot of preparation’. He also said he wasn’t prepared for ‘the depths of rot and decay which confronted him’. I’m sure he has wised up to some extent. Robert mentioned anonymous comment makers implying cowardice by their refusal to use their names. Comment makers post anonymously for a number of reasons. Some commenters know from direct experience, the rottenness of the underbelly in the catholic church. Some are catholic rejects, shunned by the institution considered a persona-non-grata for speaking out against church abuse. The last thing we need is more abuse from corrupt clergy or zealous lay catholics reading this blog by putting our names to posts. Why do catholic priests post but refuse to use their real names? After all, they are the professional catholic Christians.

1 – I welcome the revival in Derry (which doesn’t belong to the enclave) and have been offering Glory Be’s that it will grow well. RN should organise his presentation by logical threads and slow down his thick Canadian pronunciation so that we can judge his degree of sincerity (that’s practical and not ad hominem).
2 – Our Lady is not calling anyone to rejoin the enclave.
3 – Our Lady abhors infallibility.
4 – Our Lady hates it when an enclave casts insinuations about our baptism, our consciences, our conversion, our mission or our spirituality.

5 – Orientations and so called “attractions” are many. “Therapy” can’t have an outcome in mind: like Lily the Pink’s medicinal compound the recipient has to see for themselves what way they will develop. Chastity (which is disconnected from “teachings of The Church”) is offered to all, to be open to strengthening our neighbour’s integrity by our prayers in rough times for them.

Moralising is a poison that must not be kow towed to. The materialism, dominionism and gender ideology of JP II and the “Moral Majority” has resulted in hundreds of millions of lonely christians of opposite sex orientation and that billions of women and boys worldwide now live petrified.

Nugent and Parker should have transcribed their conversation so we could take it in. I think Nugent and Parker should also attend to the institutional church’s other intrinsic disorders as well.

About hurt: the Roman church hasn’t recovered from World War One yet (which came after “infallibility”) and most families are still in shock and shame over their losses in war and oppression.

I wish I felt as confident as you appear of Pflegar’s innocence.
I await SNAP’S assessment of his reinstatement.
The third man claimed that on two separate occasions Roman Catholic priest Father Pfleger sexually assaulted him at the rectory of the Roman Catholic church.
Pfleger is accused of FOUR incidents of sexual abuse.
The man decided to come forward after he saw media reports in 2021 about two brothers who claimed that Roman Catholic priest Father Pfleger sexually abused them some 40 years earlier.
The first two victims, brothers, both voluntarily submitted to polygraph examinations and passed. The brothers also presented evidence from a third victim who claimed that the Roman Catholic priest sexually assaulted him shortly after he turned the age of 18.
Their Attorney said, all of my clients presented credible and detailed evidence concerning the sex abuse.”

Your daily reminder that the cult don’t understand that you can be credibly accused and remain legally innocent because ‘historic’ abuse rarely meets the evidential standard for a criminal conviction.
At this point some idiot will say ‘But what about all the priests who’ve been convicted,’ and prove they don’t understand that CONVICTED abusers are a tiny minority of abusers.

I am sure that like any good parent or teacher he hopes his children don’t copy whatever mistakes he may have made in life; any such good parent or teacher rejoices in seeing their charges advance further. I like the way he is respectful towards Pat Buckley despite PB’s allowing insults against RN on his blog, but then PB also allows insults and attacks made again himself which is to his own credit when trying to allow freedom of expression. Look after your own sexuality and stop concerning yourself with the sexuality of others.

Indeed, one cannot count the friendships that Rupnik cultivated over the years.
