BISHOP ROBERT BYRNE – OTHER MATTERS ARISING.

BYRNE

The controversy surrounding Bishop Robert is not by any means ended.

Another serious matter was made known to me yesterday, by two different sources, and I felt compelled to let the papal nuncio to the UK, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti know about the matter, as it is most serious.

ARCHBISHOP GUGEROTTI

The complaint concerns a priest of another English diocese.

That priest has made his own bishop aware of the situation, and I’m told the priest’s bishop has been more than kind to him.

I have copied my letter to the papal nuncio to that other English bishop.

I do not know if the papal nuncio knew about this matter before hearing about it from me.

It is my belief that this matter should be immediately he made known to the police if it hasn’t been already.

In my opinion this matter requires a full police investigation

And I hope that no one in the English Catholic Church covers this one up !!!

I will not let it go and, if necessary, will make it public.

However, it is more appropriate that the English bishops, the papal nuncio, and the police deal with it.

Bishop Pat, Dracula is more likely to sunbathe than the bishops of England and Wales, and the Papal Nuncio deals with one of their own. It should be reported to the police, and they alone should investigate.

We will wait and see if this serious matter will be dealt with in an open and transparent manner. Time will tell. Thanks for call it out Bishop Pat.

Pat, you really scoop your stories. Tgese are fascinating intrigues. Wonder if we looked so closely at all cults or religious groupings will we find similar? Aren’t you lucky that your Independent Oratory didn’t multiply as I’ve no doubt you’d have had to deal with similar, albeit in a smaller scale. There’s something about power, celibacy and sexual desires that seems to create these miscreant personalities and dark secrets. God save us from inner corruption of the heart and spirit.

Do not hold much hope on the Nuncio Bishop Pat .I wrote to him last month about an issue , and to date no reply .I know how the Institution works .I suppose that means there will be no reply .I think you should give him a time limit to respond as if not it will only be giving him a chance to cover up , or head for the bunker .

A Priest.
Sorry that you have to try and discredit Archbishop Claudio however his credability is much higher than you would expect he is going to be a Prince of the Church he leaves in Three weeks.
Archbishop Claudio is NOT allowed to reply due to the nature of his role in the Church however be reassured he would have read it and dealt with it.
Email him to see if he has got it

I think in order to fund the black hole, left by Truss & Modo, we slash the wages of NHS staff, they say nursing is a vocation just like Priesthood, well let’s see how many are still in vocation when they are paid the minimum wage and no incentives for night or weekend work.

When nurses get the same benefits, plus a salary, as Roman Catholic priests which include, from free housing, a private health scheme and a group car insurance scheme, plus pension, AND, receive voluntary donations for simply doing what they were trained for, which Roman Catholic priests receive for administering, viaticum, baptism, marriage, death.
Sure, wouldn’t it be great!
There would be no need for striking, however nurses live in the real world. I support them 100% the only problem is the strike has come too late for so many nurses, this action should have been carried out 50 years ago, a generation of NHS staff lived on a pittance, and many ended up with industrial injuries.

Pat, I’ve been thinking again recently about the bribe offered you by Bishop Cahal Daly, a huge sum of hush money, (£250,000 in five £50,000 instalments) and which you turned down, even though, being human, you must have been tempted to accept.
Why have I been thinking about it? Because these RC clerical headlice make your moral integrity all the more remarkable! Frankly, RC priests disgust me.
Isn’t there something in Psalms about the just man and his unimpeachable character? When I read such lines, I cannot help but think of you.

Pat you are a rare oddity amongst priests, refusing large sums of money is an anomaly in the Roman Catholic priesthood. The old saying when they are offered money for some deed, which should be unnecessary, really rings true.
“Sure they’d take the hand off ya”
They say every man has his price, until you meet a stubborn one.

I guess + Pat’s tactic of waiting for the alleged victim to take the matter forward, presumably to the police / safeguarding people, is a sensible one. However, if that does not happen, and if + Pat has information that indicates some sort of alleged wrongdoing, then he will have to report it to the police / safeguarding people himself. Remember, it was clergy and ex-seminarians who brought down O’Brien in the end. It took time, but the hurt was evidently festering for a long time, and eventually it came out. If there is something questionable in + Byrne’s past, distant or recent, it will out. The manoeuvrings that are currently going on – + Byrne’s resignation, the silence of the Nuncio, + Pat’s interest – are all part of a process that will hopefully see the truth out. That is the way it has to be. + Byrne, Nuncio, bishops of E&W, Pope, Vatican, whoever…there is no room for coverup. Those days have gone.

Like

The police won’t act unless the actual alleged target reports a crime. It’s frustrating but I imagine in the case of a possible sexual assault that’s the only way it’s likely to get to court and a conviction.
However it’s also important not to forget that it’s incredibly difficult for victims to report.

Like

The RC church has an exemplary record in being transparent and thorough when dealing with serious, safeguarding issues. I imagine the nuncio will not have time to contact Pat as he will busy with his investigations and helping the police with their enquiries.

Like

What planet do you live on ? The default position of the RCC is to hide, deny and coverup, and only after much pressure will they do the right thing. So, it’s good that the likes of + Pat keeps on the pressure, so that in the end they will come around to transparency and honesty. Gugerotti is a company man through and through, otherwise he would not be the nuncio and he would not be heading to Rome to head up a big job and office. He will do things in the way he was trained by the Vatican diplomatic corps – do as little as possible, delay as long as possible, coverup, deny, don’t admit anything, do everything as discretely and quietly as possible, fool people, lie. All to protect the Church. So, don’t expect much from Gugerotti. Put your trust in + Pat to uncover the uncomfortable truth which must out and come to the light.

It would appear you haven’t been keeping up to date with my opinion of the RC church but then again, why would you? I believe th RC church is rotten to the core an if the Nuncio is busy at all, it will be trying to bury whatever it is that Pat has presented him with.

And to be honest, no person in their right mind could accuse the RC church of being transparent.

Er, so you agree, things are not as they appear, Benedict and Georgie are an item, so too Nursie and Dominic, only problem is their state in life is supposed to be non exclusive and a vocation to serve the people of God, not their own sexual/emotional preference.
Plus Dominic is a relatively young priest and when his love affair with Bernard is over he’ll have to get his hands dirty and be an assistant or parish priest – private secretaries are short term appointments when longer (13 years) suspicions are raised.

Like

Oh, please ! Longley and Dominic are not in a romantic relationship. It’s a practical arrangement that appears to work, that’s all. Anyhow, I doubt if either of them have the mojo to be able to raise a gallop of the heart or the loins, anyway. More like two old spinster ladies being companionable.

CLOSING OF JESUIT ABUSE CASE LEFT VICTIMS FEELING BETRAYED, EXPERT SAYS
(VATICAN CITY)
Reuters [London, England]
December 14, 2022
By Philip Pullella.
“One of the Catholic Church’s top sexual abuse experts has called for a review of how his own Jesuit order and the Vatican handled allegations against an internationally known priest and artist. The case of Father Marko Ivan Rupnik has rattled the Jesuit order, of which Pope Francis is a member, and prompted criticism of the Vatican doctrinal department for not pursuing it further. “I can understand how victims feel betrayed,” Father Hans Zollner, a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors and the head of Rome’s Gregorian University Centre for the study of abuse, told Reuters.” “For the sake of transparency, we need to know who knew something, what and when, and what happened after that,” Zollner said. “We could have found out about the different levels of responsibility, which could have prevented all of this,” he said, referring to the 2021 complaint.“I ask myself, and I ask my community, the Jesuits: Who could have known? Who did know? Who perceived something was wrong and did not go further?” Zollner said. Asked about the 1998 complaint, Father John Dardis, the Jesuits’ spokesman, told Reuters that the order had looked into reports about it but had found “nothing in the files”. Zollner said: “Probably we will never know. In most cases there are no documents.”

Yesterday’s ordination ceremony of Peter Collins was dire. It lacked joy, any hint of celebration, or holiness for that matter. He sat in his Chair to thank everybody and did so very formally. As he processed away from the altar at the end of the service he stopped by the Lord lieutenant and bowed to her. The whole ceremony was stuffy. It was dire. I feel sorry for any energetic priests in the diocese. How on earth did he become a Bishop?
