Priest sentenced to two life terms of imprisonment for murder and rape

https://taungdailynews.wordpress.com/2022/12/06/a-priest-sentenced-to-two-life-terms-of-imprisonment-for-murder-and-rape/

A priest, who is a Zimbabwean national, Lucas Chauke (50) was sentenced to two life terms for murder and rape by the North West High Court. Chauke also received a cumulative 30 years on two other counts of murder and rape.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in North West, Henry Mamothame said, Chauke was illegal in the country. Mamothame further said, the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

“Chauke’s murder emanates from an incident that occurred on 8 October 20217 in Temba, wherein he met a 53-year-old woman known to him, as he was known to be a priest in the area. He then took her to a secluded place near a dam, under the pretense of assisting her with her spirituality.

“Upon arrival, he repeatedly raped her and subsequently tied her to a tree, before fleeing the scene. After a while, she managed to untie herself and ran to ask for help,” he said.

Mamothame further said, the victim managed to report the incident to the police, who then started searching for the accused. He added that Chauke was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape.

“In a separate incident that occurred on 10 May 2018, he took a 55-year-old woman to the same secluded area next to the dam, raped her, and tied her to a tree before fleeing the scene.

“Her decomposed body was later discovered still tied to the tree, as she was unable to set herself free. He was sentenced to life for murder and a further 15 years for rape,” said Mamothame.

He said on 3 August 2018, Chauke took another woman (55) to the same place and attempted to rape her, but seemingly failed. Mamothame said he then tied her to a tree and left her to die.

“Chauke was sentenced to 15 years for murder. He was eventually arrested, and linked through DNA specimens to all other incidents,” he said.

In aggravation of sentence, the state prosecutor, Adv Benny Kalakgosi urged the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence, as the offenses committed were serious. Kalakgosi further argued that Chauke took advantage of unsuspecting women, who trusted him as a priest.

Judge Frances Snyman agreed with the state and described Chauke’s actions as horrific and further alluded to the trust that he abused towards women who held him high.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West, Dr Rachel Makhari Sekhaolelo lauded the prosecutor and the investigation team from the SAPS for a successful conviction.

“We welcome this conviction, especially at a time when we are reflecting on the plight of women during the 16 Days of Activism. This fight needs to be activated 365 to be victorious against this scourge,” she concluded.

PAT SAYS

In one way, we have all become used to stories of priests doing horrific things.

I don’t know if this particular priest was an RC, an Anglican, or a priest of some other Church.

Maybe readers can find that out?

But now and again, a story comes along that shocks us to the very root of our being.

This story is very horrifying.

Murder. Rape and tying women to trees until they escaped or died and decomposed.

And all done by a man who claims to represent God.

I don’t know if Chauke is Satanic and evil.

But his actions come straight out of the pits of Hell.

As so do the actions of any priest who totally destroyed lives 😞

If you believe the Church is too crowded, visit when the Church is quieter over Christmas and be reassured by the joy and hope that comes from the knowledge that God is with us.” – A Christmas message from the Bishop of Meath, Tom Deenihan.
Is there no end to Tom’s hypocrisy? Dom Benedict has been persecuted and isolated by Tom Deenihan. Tom must do what he can so that victims of harassment do not become isolated.

Africa will be the next big scandal in Church. African priests have picked up all the western vices.. privilege, love of money, spiritual manipulation, sexual predation. Saw it first hand in Kenya. Western missionaries.. Kiltegan, Spirtans,Mill Hills etc trying to enforce a failed celibacy model.. local parishes dread hand over to local priests when missionaries go.. money..protection etc.. nuns especially suffer from priests sexually.. when pregnant thrown out.. young poor girls want to.join western orders to get out.. in some areas celibacy is non existant.. one ‘mzungu’ bishop is turning a blind eye to it all. Doesnt want to know anymore.. some missionaries and yes Irish ones.. have ‘arrangements’ and little ‘comforts’ under and overage.. male and female.. Now with better communicatuon ..the Internet, these things no longer hidden.. compo to be had.. Watch this space Bishop Pat..

7:49 Abuse of locals in Africa & Asia by western Roman Catholic clergy is yet to be fully reported. Use of rent boys and vulnerable forced into sex work due to poverty by clerics has escalated since technology has advanced. Clerics keep in touch online in between annual visits to international sex workers.

@7:49. You make a valid point about how young African men are drawn into the RC priesthood by aspirations of attaining the prestige and comforts they see afforded to Irish missionary priests.
Educational establishments run by these clerics have been a reliable source of recruitment in the past. But things are changing. Old style missionary seminaries , Kiltegans, Dromantines SMA’s etc are gone. New RC recruits are invariably indigenous. They will inevitably reveal the same aspirational traits of the mzunga, together with all the’other traits’ so often debated here on this blog.
And the ‘sins of the fathers ‘: that will all come out too.

Hey, + Pat, perhaps you should turn your attention to the dysfunctional House of Windsor that seems intent on destroying itself from within ! Harry and Wills physically fighting, warring and bitching women. What a mess. I’m not sure they realise how much damage they are doing to themselves. People are generally and variously bemused and outraged, and frankly have much more important things to worry about than the various stories from the warring parties. Similar to the Church and the antics of its clergy and bishops, the Royal Family are the authors of their own demise. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Done a bunk, gone MIA, suspended, perhaps all three. But, he has disappeared and will not be back. He will be being supported by the diocese in some ways, probably paying for his housing, but maybe having to work at some job himself in order to bring in living expenses. Maryvale itself is kaput, all on line now, the buildings put in to suspended animation because they cannot afford to renovate them. These listed buildings of some note will just be left to rot. Eddie Clare and Maryvale are symptomatic and emblematic of what is happening to the Church and to the clerical culture. Kaput.

Scratch a Catholic who is heretical in Christology, and you’ll find a heretic also when it comes to sex. Not sure why this is so. Maybe they demote Christ to ease pressure on a bad conscience. Or their initial belief is shaky, and the sexual temptations prove too strong…

Like

That’s because orthodox christology pretends to believe that Jesus was fully man but doesn’t really. The sticking point is always going to be sex (no surprises with the Catholics) and the orthodox christology is virtually sexless. Just like priests pretend to be.
Once you take into account what human sexuality is actually like orthodox christology tends to get a bit hissy. There’s no room in it for Jesus having a wet dream, a crush on a teacher, sexual fantasies or even, horror of horrors, intercourse.

The category of ‘heretical’ is very valuable in the search for truth. A heresy is s formulation of the truth that doesn’t quite make it. I’m not so sure it’s a helpful concept to employ when speaking about sexuality.

Like

If you have a low Christology, then Jesus’ teachings are those of a guy who was man of his time, and being a Christian means doing in our culture what we imagine Jesus did in his culture.

Like

Also, if Jesus was just a guy, then the teachings of the Church are just the opinions of the people who formulated them, and they were limited by their culture. So they are certainly not binding on us.

I think JC was a remarkable person with a compelling charisma and an ability to greatly influence those he met.
Jews of his time, under harsh Roman rule, longed for a freedom as promised by their ancient forebears in writings and legends. All this yearning for freedom was piggybacked onto this JC messianic character after his death, and so the cult developed into what we now have as myriad branches of the Christian culture.
That JC was sent by, and is himself the supreme God Creator……..?
To believe that requires an imaginative mindset heavily guided by indoctrinated social and cultural influences parasitically capitalising on human concerns at our own mortality.

For comparison purposes: Galway Councillor resigns whilst Garda investigation into allegations proceeds.says:

A Social Democrat party representative on Galway City Council, has made the following statement:
“In the past 48 hours certain allegations have been made about me. These are very serious matters and will obviously take a considerable length of time to be investigated fully by the appropriate authorities. In these circumstances I believe that the correct thing for me to do is to resign my membership of Galway City Council. I don’t propose to make any further comment in relation to the matter”
His party The Social Democrats responded as follows “The party believes it is appropriate that Mr Hanley has resigned and these allegations are thoroughly investigated”.
Meanwhile, the ongoing lack of transparency from Bishops and their clergy & staff continues in relation to deviant clergy and paid & volunteer laity once again highlighting the Roman Catholic Church as an elitist organisation that publicly demonstrates itself on a daily basis as being a law unto itself and with complete disregard for the human rights of the general population outside of its elitist and over privileged circles.

Like

+ Bobby Byrne has resigned too, but just says that he was exhausted and didn’t think he could carry out the role. Whereas we know that the reality is that he was pushed, in part, on the basis of allegations being made against him which have been referred to the police and to the Vatican. What was the new regime they were forcing through for force is how Brum rock – a fair number of clerical and lay power junkies – what a list that would be.
Eddie seemed a decent fella – v close to the now Dean of the Cathedral- inseparable bezzies, seemingly no more.

Pat, you have no real proof about the Maynooth “abuses”. You have made references to this before but you did not prove anything as being true. «Pat, you have no real proof about the Maynooth “abuses”.»
An interesting observation! Many of the allegations have never been denied. We know for a fact that the allegations against Fr. Sean Jones in Kerry was sufficiently serious that Jones sworn affidavit affirming he was “not” the individual in the photograph that mysteriously came into the possession of Bishop Pat.
There is plenty of proof in existence. But the people in the know are too pusillanimous to come forward because they too are also morally compromised. And they are also dependent upon the finance provided by the church to sustain their lifestyle.
It is the reality that there is a power imbalance between senior leadership figures in seminaries and seminarians. If those responsible for the formation of seminarians have an agenda that power imbalance is a form of abuse/coercion. As we know and have seen repeatedly there is no right of redress in the church, because Canon Law is now weaponised and manipulated to protect the whims of the Ordinary, so we should not be surprised there has been no accountability for the misbehaviour that has occurred, and that would appear to continue to occur in Maynooth.

It was part fostered, unwitting by Edel Quinn’s heroic efforts in the late 1930s and eventually separated from Legio Mariae and the Catholic Church.
