WHY ARE ALTARS BEING DESCREATED.

MONASTERY ALTAR DESCREATED.MONASTERY ALTAR DESCREATED.

On Thursday afternoon, January 5, 2023, sometime between 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm, a gentleman entered our Abbey Church and proceeded to desecrate our main altar. Through the use of a regular hammer and sledgehammer/axe, he destroyed the top of the altar and broke open the mensa stones containing the relics of our altar. He stole our two reliquaries in the mensa stones, both of which contained three relics. He had apparently then moved to the tabernacle, removed the cross on top, removed the tabernacle veil, and then was interrupted. Thankfully, the Blessed Sacrament and the Tabernacle were not damaged. When some guests notified us of the damage, the Logan County Sheriff was called and they came to investigate. By piecing together the testimony from multiple witness who had seen a strange man on campus earlier, we were fairly confident that we had seen him previously in our Church. Out of an abundance of caution, our Academy students were locked down while the investigation proceeded. Ironically, after the deputies had left, the gentlemen in question decided to return to the Church. The Logan County deputies were called and they quickly returned. One of our monks spoke to the gentleman and it became clear he was the one who had done the damage. He was arrested, his vehicle towed, and further investigations are ongoing. One of the reliquaries was found in his truck containing three of the relics, along with the hammer and sledgehammer/axe with marble dust still on them. Throughout this, our monks continued with our regularly communal prayers. Now that the gentleman has been caught and justice will proceed, may we also offer a prayer for him.

Due to the desecration of the altar, Abbot Elijah and the monastic community will undertake the “Public Prayer after the Desecration of a Church.” In accordance with the prescriptions, the altar of the church has been stripped bare and all customary signs of joy and gladness have been put away. Due to the extensive damage to the main altar, the monks will use a portable altar until necessary provisions are made for the repairs.

PAT SAYS

Catholic church altars are being descreated by;

1. Priests having sex on them.

2. People with mental health issues

3. People who are angry with the RCC over abuse and corruption

We can not blame mentally ill people for attacks on churches and altars.

It is UNDERSTABDABLE that those hurt by the RCC lash out. But violence is not the answer. Victims and survivors must find more clever and legal ways to make the RCC pay.

Priests having sex on altars totally blows my mind.

I can not understand how any priest could do such evil.

10:37 why not, surely faithful parishioners wouldn’t begrudge their priest a few indulgences to line their egg nest now and then.

8:51 priests privately squirrelling away cash for a rainy day, unlike other jobs, they have no freedom to choose their lifestyle in retirement, most summoned to assist in parishes until they literally drop dead whether they like it or not. Vocations crisis escalated by selfish formators and superiors in seminaries who couldn’t keep it in their pants & leave the young seminarians alone thus driving them out or turning them into damaged and compromised individuals unable to hack it as a priest in the longer term even if they make it to ordination.

The position of the Roman Catholic Church is untenable whilst day after day more crime, corruption & criminality is revealed, families are denied documentation when trying to trace family members who were controlled & institutionalised by nuns & priests to profit the Roman Catholic Church, priests are openly facilitating anti social and deliberate endangerment in church financial interests, stalking the public and invading their legal rights to dignity & privacy etc. It is essential that those abused by church follow legally defined route to resolve any outstanding business with this abusuve criminal Mafia.

Donate some of that transubstantiated wine, and let them transfuse that into all the sick people. It would be a good way of showing the world that your claims about wine to blood are true. On the afternoon of Thursday, January 5, 2023, an intoxicated man pummeled the Italian-imported marble altar of Subiaco Abbey Church in Arkansas with a standard hammer and a sledgehammer.
“The altar itself had a very large hole in the middle of the slab that went all of the way through the altar and the altar had large cracks and chips,” the Logan County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook. “This is an act of desecration to the altar.”
Inside the altar were two reliquaries, or brass boxes, containing over 1,500-year-old relics that were sealed into the altar on March 31, 1959., the day Bishop Albert L. Fletcher from the Diocese of Little Rock consecrated the altar and church. Then, the vandal headed to the Tabernacle where the Holy Eucharist is housed. He removed the crucifix on top and took off the Tabernacle veil. Then … he had a (perhaps miraculous) change of heart.
“The Sheriff reported that the man had wanted to break into the tabernacle but had looked up at the statue of Mary and decided he couldn’t do that to her,” Subiaco Abbey said in a post on Facebook.

Visitors interrupted the man’s desecration of the altar and reported it to the abbey and the police were called. Logan County deputies arrived, but the man was gone — and so were the two reliquaries.
Father Elijah Owens, OSB, the abbot of the monastery, told Catholic News Agency each reliquary contained relics of 3 saints each, dating back to 500 A.D. One contained relics of St. Boniface, St. Tiberius, and St. Benedict of Nursia. The other held relics of St. Tiberius, St. Marcellus, and St. Justina.
According to Catholic News Agency, Subiaco Academy, the nearby school of boys in grades 7 — 12 run by the abbey, was locked down as the investigation proceeded.
After police did an investigation of the crime scene, they left. Then, the vandal returned to the scene of the crime. In a statement on the Subiaco Abbey website, they said, “One of the monks spoke to the gentleman and it became clear he was the one who had done the damage.”
Jerrid Farnam, 31, of Subiaco, Arkansas was arrested Thursday afternoon. Inside his truck, police found one of the reliquaries holding three relics and a hammer and sledgehammer coated in marble dust.
Throughout the ordeal, the Benedictine monks who call Subiaco Abbey home, continued with their daily prayers.

Now that the gentleman has been caught and justice will proceed, may we also offer a prayer for him,” the abbey said.
Abbot Elijah Owens and the monks at the monastery will undertake the “Public Prayer after the Desecration of a Church.” The abbey said, “In accordance with the prescriptions, the altar of the curch has been stripped bare and all customary signs of job and gladness have been put away. Due to the extensive damage to the main altar, the monks will use a portable altar until necessary provisions are made for the repairs. UIOGD!”
For those wondering, UIOGD is an acronym of the Latin phrase, “Ut In Omnibus Glorificetur Deus,” which translates as, “That in all things God may be glorified.”
Yesterday, Subiaco Abbey announced on Facebook, the other reliquary and three relics have been recovered and returned to the monastery.

Destroying church property is the act of a fool. Better it be sold in good order to settle the thousands of outstanding redress & abuse cases outstanding against the RCC.

Correct.
This man desecrated an altar; RCC clerics desecrate Christ’s body every day through, and especially, their abuse of children, along with its concealment. Which is worse?
From the strength of public reaction to the vandalism of carved marble and the theft of alleged old bones of questionable provenance, one would think these children took second place. But, of course, I must be wrong.

Violence is not THE answer? That’s assuming there is only one answer, and that it must be to your liking, Pat.

Do not underestimate the rage against the RCC institution. Against, popes, and the Papacy; against bishops, and the Episcopate; against priests, and the Priesthood.

There is no moral conscience in the RCC institution. There would have been no movement towards any kind of reform without public pressure on it. This pressure will have to be maintained in a state of ever-watchful vigilance, because, at its heart, the institution is evil. History has shown this, again and again. The Future will show it, too. The Present continues to do so.

Consider the manner in which the RCC institution publicly lionised the memory of PE Benedict XVII, while the world, poodle-like, paid tribute to this distinctly odious, and ‘weak, weak man’? Was it right that a man who had betrayed so many abused and vulnerable children throughout the world should be honoured? When the notorious paedophile, Fr Malachy Finnegan, was exposed, there was an outcry. Under public pressure, his photographs and tributes were removed from the school in which he had run, and preyed on little boys. And his headstone: wasn’t this vandalised, or removed? Something was done to it. So, why weren’t there protests against the memory of Benedict at or around his funeral? Why did the world allow the Vatican to rewrite this moral coward’s memory and legacy? To airbrush his abandonment of damaged children? Because this odious, and ‘weak, weak man’ served the institution, and the institution rewards its own… if the world allows it to.

Anger, even violence, against this institution shouldn’t surprise anyone, whether or not they think it appropriate.

Catholicism defines sacrilege as the action of defiling any sacred objects, places or people. A physical depreciation – having sex on an altar for instance is called a desecration. There were calls for an exorcism after the pictures of the sex orgy on kildorrey church altar emerged.

Like

The despicable offense of desecrating an Altar is first and foremost an offense against Almighty God. The excuse of mental health issues with the degenerates who commit these sacrilegious acts is a nonsense because of some perceived grievance against The Church. They should all be burnt at the Stake, no matter what woke excuse they give.

Like

Perceived grievance? How do you know it was perceived and not actual? Of course, you know nothing at all

Your anger is prompted by the vandalism of an altar. (I shan’t call it ‘desecration’, because this word should apply only to abused human beings, not to inanimate objects. I think you are moved more by such acts of destruction than you are by the destruction of people, especially children, at the hands of priests. It signals your obsession with liturgical form and dress rather than what really matters: people. You’ll find that God is a person in each of his manifestations, not a praxis or form.

Like

@ 11:04am
How do you know there was an actual grievance? Of course you know nothing at all, even if it was actual it does not give them an excuse to desecrate an Alter, The fact remains the desecration of the Altar was truly an offense against Almighty God. I disagree strongly with you describing the desecration of the Altar as being just an act of vandalism, which says more about you. If people have been abused by anyone they should go for the person who abused them not attacking Sacred Sanctuaries. The abuser no matter who they are will be dealt with at The Judgement Seat as will the the person who desecrated an Altar, they will both be toast and rightly so. You’ll find that God is Just.

I agree. Seeing God in people is more important than seeing God of Love in abstract objects. When we see and understand that then and only then will the message of Jesus start showing fruit. Amen

If the said people were good in any meaningful way they wouldn’t go to that church again until it had been reconsecrated, and exert pressure on the bishop to do so.

Like

Pat, how many priests do you know of who desecrated altars by having sex? I know of the one spoken of here last year but have never heard of any other incidents. People have agendas re: religious groupings, faith and Christianity in particular. In parts of Africa and the Middle East, Christians are continually attacked with their churches burned and religious sisters and priests killed. These seem politically motivated. Yes, there are some who will attack a church in anger at their hurt and that’s very understandable but to suggest that all desecration of churches is driven by the sexual abuse scandals is not factually correct. There are very demonic and evil people in our world who despise anything religious or of faith or of God. Extremists are everywhere. Look at the amount of school shootings in the USA…all carried out by brainwashed young radical fundamentalists. Desecration of Christian churches is miruvated by an intolerance and hatred of any rwlugii6s concept. There are some in the states who have burned churches in reaction to the white supremacist narratives. Any desecration of religious iconography out of hatred and prejudice is evil.

In Jesus’ day the only priests were at the temple where people only went once a year (if that), not in every town. Hence an institution remote from life. Awareness of priesthood was chiefly in old writings for Jesus and His people. The late Empire was probably trying to subsume the roles of other religions also – where sodalities of priests performed social glue functions. Romans were notorious for regarding men and women as separate castes, hence St Paul urges husbands to actually talk with their wives. The caste system has come back in precisely because the big kinds of christianity abandoned prayer since and even before 1946.
